I always wonder in the moms are actually saying something intelligible to the lambs or if it’s just about voice and bonding.
I guess we can never really be sure 🤔

Besides working 12 hours a day, every day, with never a day off, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, anemia, and old age, I feel just great!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've been waiting to see how #85 was doing. On the video when he was born he was only moments old and looking like a lamb that was days old. He's really a sharp looking fellow.

Just different creatures I guess. But some lambs are up fast too. Suffolks are slower
Love all the lambs but the Dorset are so cute. Doing a good job on the videos. Just noticed that Arnie is left handed some say they are smarter. He seems to be he married you. Lol
No, he is right handed. Sometimes video clips flip so may make him look left-handed. I hadn't noticed before!😃

How long do you typically leave them in the jugs? Do you tag and band lambs right away or wait awhile? Thank you!
Singles 1 day, twins 2, and triplets 3 days if all is going well with them. We tag, band, etc at two days old

No, she doesn't have a name. I find the Texel crosses have such kind faces. Why Bo out of curiosity?🙂

I get it, though. But I'm the kind of person who, as a child, would name the defunct cars permanently parked along my walk home. I name trees, and rocks, and bits of moss. I love naming things!
In fact, I got four goats, and today I named all four. (They have registered names).... I decided that Duece (registered name) is really the Boss..... aka Bruce Springsteen... so he's Bruce.... and the other names came quick, Stevie (Nicks), Pat(ty) Benotar (sp?), and the last one... She's Tiny Tina (Turner)
And I noticed that seven out of seven of my ewes are showing udder development. Even the one who was born in April, and the one who had lambs in July.

QUESTION
Does mama paw at lambs when she wants them to eat?
I noticed mama pawing lamb then licking.
I'm still learning and I thought I heard that mama does that (paw at or nudges) when she wants the lamb to eat, and then licks them to encourage nursing. Is that correct?
Moms want babies up to nurse, and nursing helps moms pass the after birth.
They paw at them so they will get up and nurse quickly so predators can't get them

I forgot the other day, to admire the completed set of new feeders along the wall. Very functional, and custom made for the space. What a fine bit of craftsmanship! Arnie, you toss off all the welding and designing like it was not a big deal, but those are really nice feeders.
Thanks. He loves making things. I know it is still work, but for him, doing things like that is his "down time " 🙂

Why don't you guys use the big marwell creep feeder for the lambs? Looks like you use it now for feed storage now
He blocked the feeder portion off because he didn't like it at all. The lambs were constantly digging in it to get the fresher stuff I guess so we're contaminating the feed.
Arnie, the sheep only have halves not quarters lol. I know you use to have the milk cows.

Thank you for a lovely lesson about responsible breeding. You know the type of sheep you want any and more importantly *why* you want it. The results are evident in the quality of the lambs produced. I wish you were closer to where I live so that when my youngest granddaughter is ready for her first 4H lamb we could purchase one of yours!

Good evening busy shepherds. And Alexander says hi. I think he will warm up more. 85 is really a humdinger. He will be fun to see how he does. And Maisey is always the doll. Gosh the boys and girls are being friendly. That is what makes you guys so cool each of you have a job you guys do so well. Boy she shot that milk right out. Awww such sweet babies. That was some noisy kids. Oh Tommy doesn’t want a new guy. There is something so satisfying about fresh hay out. Just like kids to do the opposite of what you want. Love tgewaythose mamas talk to their babies. I bet it is hard to make the decisions of who stays and who goes. But I know that they were loved and well cared for on your farm. The hardest part is always choosing who stays and who goes. We just hope we can find good homes for the ones that leave 🥰🥰🥰🥰
