  • Welcome to another exciting episode of our daily sheep farming vlog at Ewetopia Farms! In today's video, we delve into the important topic of giving lambs an enema. After receiving numerous inquiries from our viewers, we decided to provide a comprehensive guide on how to identify when your lamb may require assistance and demonstrate a simple enema procedure. Something so simple and easy to check may prevent future loses of lambs at just a few days old.
    But before we dive into the educational segment, we take a lighthearted moment to check on our adorable bottle babies. Witness their enthusiasm as they eagerly run towards us when called and observe their adorable frothy lips after enjoying their milk. These little ones never fail to bring a smile to our faces!
    Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that we have officially entered our second round of lambing. To kickstart this exciting phase, we proudly present two Dorset ewes delivering lambs sired by our magnificent ram, Kasanova. As this is our first time using Kasanova as a sire, we eagerly anticipate seeing the outcome of his offspring.
    Join us on this captivating journey through sheep farming as we provide valuable insights into lamb care, share heartwarming moments with our bottle babies, and witness the arrival of new lambs on our farm. Don't miss out on this informative and entertaining episode!

    Arnie was so funny calling Massey, Bob, Bob! She didn’t know who he was calling. Eventually she came. She is so cute. I hope she is a keeper.

    the lamb with the blanket sweater, reminds me of a Linus. He's thriving and looks quite happy to have playmates.

    Ok, that ram lamb #84. Looking through the gate. That has to be the cutest thing I have ever seen.
    Arnie and Bob, Bob, Bob. 😂😂. He does try.
    I’ll never get tired of watching Maisie run to you when you call her.
    THANK YOU!

    Arnie, you seriously crack me up! Calling “ Bobby!” for wee Maisie. Then giving the enema and telling the ewe, “That’s not very tasty, mom” as she cleans her lamb’s rear. 😆 Great info about the kind of wool the sheep have. Will you be selling Kasanova if he produces a lot of open wool lambs? 🐑 It looks like Little Mister is out-growing his sweater, lol. Good for him! 💛 Lynn, I know you mentioned the daily growth of the Suffolk lambs before, but wow they are bulking up like crazy! Beautiful sight. 🥰

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms  8 місяців тому +3

      No, we will be keeping Kasanova because he has a lot of traits we like. As for open wool it is not a good time of year to judge wool qualities after lambing. Wool loosens with stress. Best to judge prior to breeding fir a more accurate evaluation 🙂

    Very helpful information today Lynn and Arnie!! Poor little lady felt much better afterwards!! I once watched a lady massage a tiny baby goat to remove the meconium. Had she have known to use the warm water enema the treatment would have worked so much better. Thanks for a great video!! Stay safe!!🙏❤

    Am so very glad you shared about the simple enema for young lambs as well as the mention of tight fleeces.
    In my own flock have worked for years to increase density and softness.

    The ewes licking/cleaning the lambs rear-end actually helps stimulate the baby to poo…it’s the same across many species.

    I tried to Google bloody colostrum to find out exactly what’s going on there. I didn’t find what I was looking for but I did find something else. Apparently even if a ewe is treated for mastitis and recovers, she can carry the bacteria that were causing it and pass it on to other ewes. Strict culling reduces the rate of mastitis. (Not that you have a lot of mastitis, I just thought it was interesting.)
    I don’t watch your neighbour’s videos any more but I thought of her when Arnie was demonstrating enemas. I don’t think I ever saw her performing enemas. Another advantage of not CIDRing is that you have time and attention for those extra details like tube feeding and enemas. Your neighbour might be able to pay for extra help to replace her labour in the fields if she spread lambing out and increased survival a bit, but doing fieldwork together seems to be important to their marriage. That’s worth a lot too.

      We Cidr our ewes and tube feed every lamb (thanks to Lynn) I believe I know who your referring to but she’s not Lynn’s neighbour. That lady is know where near the experience of Ewetopia. We all can learn everyday something new. Even with my own flock try new things! 🤭

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms  8 місяців тому +2

      @CityandCountrySouthdowns yes, Alison knows she is not literally my neighbor but viewers from afar seem to think that being in the same province means we must know each other. It's kind of an inside joke between us. How did tubing work for you? Less worry and stress right?🙂

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms  8 місяців тому +2

      There are some types of mastitis that are really contagious but in order for others to get it, they must be in contact with the discharge say from tubing or stealing. It is not airborne 🙂

    • @alisoncummins2726
      @alisoncummins2726 8 місяців тому +2

      @@CityandCountrySouthdowns Yeah, I know she’s not really Lynn’s neighbour. I just don’t want to use names and she’s more Lynn’s neighbour than David, Cammy or Tara are.
      Also: yay for sharing expertise!

    Week late evening and watching my favorite channel. Maisey is wondering why he is calling her bob 😂😂😂 The cats eat but they are keeping the rodents out. Good job. That lambie must have felt so much better. So glad Arniehelped that lambfeel better oh my gosh. Dickhead ram. I think he is talking about Kasanova. 😂😂. So little mister lets himself be heard. Such a cute face watching you through the fence. Love the catitude Scotty has. The Suffolk lambs are really growing. Those silly boys scrapping with each other. Get some yummy things to eat and as always big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️

    Can the density of the wool be affected by diet and health through a wool growth cycle? When I’m choosing a fleece for fiber processing, I’ve been taught that fiber quality has a lot to do with the ewes health and diet through the year. I had not realized it could have so much to do with the specific genetics. I learn so much by watching this channel. 😊

    • @EwetopiaFarms
      @EwetopiaFarms  8 місяців тому

      Genetics play a part for sure and breed. Nothing in this world is black and white. Nutrition, lice/mites, stress, etc all play a part in wool quality
