Accidentally discovered this channel and it's a highly underrated channel. Sir u have my respect how much effort you gave in every video. I know you are doing your own thing you don't even care about views. I know you are very satisfied with what you are doing
They weren't shipped in the ones illustrated in this video. There were 2 basic kinds of Wardian cases: ones used for shipping and more decorative ones for inside homes. Luke Keogh's "The Wardian Case: How a Simple Box Moved Plants and Changed the World" gives a full history of it, along with lots of photos and illustrations. The Wardian cases used for shipping were in continuous use for decades through the 19th century and into the 20th.
Love the history......Robert Fortune, a former curator at Chelsea Physic Garden, secretly set out with the East India Company in 1848 to gather tea plants out of China. This task had previously been viewed as impossible because of the small number of seeds able to survive the journey, but the Wardian case offered a chance for success.....today one would call that a game changer..lol Interesting , that a Scottish botanist named A.A. Maconochie had created a similar terrarium almost a decade earlier. The Victorian era conservatories and Wardian cases were visually quite impressive , ( I think ).
Thanks for the mini documentary! It was wonderful to watch the presentation, accompanied by the beautiful music.
Thank you
