    Korg should pay you for doing these tutorials. They are basically a full blown manual / best practice collection in video format. Thanks!

      100% the technology coming to market is excellent but so poorly supported or explained these delays!

    The sequence running at right about 25:30 reminds me very much of the title screen music for the Gameboy port of Qix. I really need to spend more time with the modwave's sequencer, and this series of videos has been massively helpful in giving me a headstart in getting my brain wrapped around it

    The Shape track is so cool.
    As its basic coolness try this.
    Set one of the A,B,C,or D tracks to 1 step 100% value.
    Set TIMING to 1 track 1 eight note value.
    Set 1 track SHAPE ramp down BUT set value to 0 and set its modulation from Osc1 and set it to timed half note or higher shape of ramp up.
    Set Track(n) to modulate pitch of an oscillator at say +12 semitones.
    Listen to the madness when you press a key.

    After i used some free VST's and a paid version of VCV rack, i decided to buy my first ever Syntheziser. I was very concerned about being limited by my choice. My choice after going through some reviews, i desided primarily because of You to buy a ModWave as my first synth, and yes... There is a steep lerning code, but i must say no limitations.
    I love the synh with all of my heart, and thanks for Your guidens, at the helping I have gotten to let me create the sound of by dreams and beyond.
    1. I am sorry for any grammar and spelling errors.My main language is Danish.
    2. I understand why this synth is underappreciated. It is a Moster that You just can learn to tame. On the positive side though.You can get every sound out of it You ever dreamed of, without using it's full potential.
    3. Yes it is not at synth trying to mimic a specific 80's or 90's keybord. Instead it is a Chameleon capable of all.
    4. IThe sound is oftent called hard af Digital, and nowhere as thick as an anaolg synth. You can create the thichk sound, but like everyting else about this Beat, you have to think out of the box.
    From a pround owner of a ModWave, i brought less than a Month ago.

    Lovely, OSC. Pure lovely. Keep these coming. These are incredibly useful.
    I bought the Modwave for my son as he wanted to get into synthesis and your vids on this have been wonderful teaching tools as both of us are following along.

      I will do! Timing lane is up next - just have a few other videos I need to finish up first (hopefully they'll be interesting too as most of them are not tied to any particular synth).

    This one has cleared up some of my questions about the mods in the Mod Seq. lanes...Thank you !
    I notice you are holding shift to open seq. lanes...you can just double click them as well. Keep up the great work !

    Great video. I ran with the sequencer as an 8 stage envelope for PPG waves I downloaded, and slowed the tempo down for about 15 seconds total length. Very cool! There will be more Modwave UA-cam videos coming from me!

    Shape lane is amazing for Stutter house vibes! is there a swing option anywhere in Modwave? I suppose some of those Shape envelops have a bit of swing

    20:12 It's interesting that you can S&H a mod source on the pitch sequence, but is it also possible to quantise it to semitones, or preferably lock it into a fixed scale? That would be REALLY useful. Later you show how to set up sequences in semitones, but I'm talking about randomising some of the steps but locked to particular quantised scales. This is something that's done a lot in modular, and it would be very cool to have it as a feature on a synth that operates polyphonically and saves its patches.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I really hope that they add those same options to the pitch lane - it seems like an obvious missed opportunity. You can fake it with an appropriate LFO modulating the steps (I show this in part 1), but it is a bit of a hack.

    is there a way to use the sequencer to trigger the Amp envelope with each step? in the manual it says on p. 62 to modulate the Filter Output level, but is that really the only/best method?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому

      Yes, I cover it, and other aspects of the envelopes here: ua-cam.com/video/O44fJJQ_Zj8/v-deo.html
      Skip to around 15:25 if you want to jump to the answer.

    hi, can samples be placed/used in the sequencer? for motion sequencing, modulating etc? or can samples be modified somehow? thnx!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому

      As of the current firmware, the loaded sample (or wave table) is not a modulation destination sadly.

    hi os, in your opinion, between modwave and opsix, wich is more capable/versatile in area of non-linear experimental idm style percussive? and if there is some im portant difference between their sequencers &envelopes shaping possibilities?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому

      For percussion I'd choose the opsix hands down. Sequencer is more 'interesting' on the modwave, but arguably less appropriate for sequencing drums. That said I'd almost certainly sequence externally.

    in general, can you hear the difference compared to an analog synth (e.g. at some pitches)?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому +1

      If you're asking about obvious digital artifacts at higher pitches - not that I'd particularly noticed. There are other things that might tip you off, but it can do a fairly good "virtual analog" sound if that's what you want, once you set it up. It might not be my first choice if you just want a VA though - there are synths out there which will do that job more in a more straightforward way, and conversely, if that's your focus, you'll be missing out on a lot of what makes the Modwave interesting.

    I wanna sound like BOC!! What kind of synthesizers do they use?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  2 роки тому

      A quick Google search of "Boards of Canada synths" suggests a CS70M, SH-101 and AN1x were all used, with the former being the "signature sound" of the first album.
