This is so true man! So good to finally watch your version of the American Dream video. A teacher once told me “if there’s someone that looks like you that made it, then so can you” and that was the most important thing I’ve ever learned in school

This is honestly the worst kind of person just watching everyone drowning while you stand on the beach and say “what’s their problem”. Glad you had rich parents and everyone around you is doing great but that’s not an accurate depiction of America much less the world at large.
Exactly. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the same opportunities as OP. I'm fortunately in a decent spot to be enrolled in uni paid in full by my employer without any student debt, make a decent amount in investments relative to my income level, and my only bills being a car note + insurance since I still live with my parents. However, many people my age don't have the same opportunities that I do. So many people are struggling financially due to many factors outside of their control and being willfully ignorant of this is no different from sticking your head in the sand and denying reality.

I appreciate you giving out a different viewpoint on the American Dream. I never really thought outside the box besides the old American Dream. Great video man!
I really liked this perspective. I feel like too many people nowadays, especially kids my age, have become doomers, just totally nihilistic and pessimistic about their lives. Genuinely doesn’t help, totally pointless.
Thank you for the motivation, I’ve always been aware of opportunities and always had ideas of what I can do to make it in my own way but I’ve always been unmotivated and lacked consistency, the one time that I locked in, I built something that gave me purpose and thousands in profit in mere weeks. Unfortunately due to multiple reasons, mainly burnout and me being lazy and unmotivated, I lost this thing that I built and have been saying for over a year that I need to lock in and that I can free myself from my current job and run my life my way if I just lock in, but I still haven’t. That said, it’s videos like this that help jumpstart me into a productive mindset and remind me that, especially as a individual living in America at 19 with a solid foundation and no current liabilities, that life isn’t hopeless and I can mold my reality to whatever I want simply by working hard and making the right decisions. Thank you Why Learn.

Truthfully, I worry about the cheapening of the American dream. I used to work in science in a major city and I did not like the work and felt already cornered into a niche of science. The companies I saw and worked for hired H1B workers, they were good wokers but on average seemed to make less and work harder. But when you visa/staying in America is tied to your company that can be expected. I have moved into computer science and software development, and obviously the market has not been great and I have had little success. My grandfather had no education and was a carpet salesman for Sears. He supported a family and owned a home selling carpet to other home owners. Most people my age I know struggle to pay rent in small apartments with the thought of owning land a distant dream. Obviously the world is very different today. I want America to invest in their own citizens and home. I dont want America to sell out . I worry about the future and hope and these trends change
While I agree that every person should try to become the best version of themselves physically, mentally and financially I totally disagree about the American dream not being dead. This redefined version of the American dream is only available to a decreasingly small percentage of the population, while the middle class is squeezed when it comes to raising a family and buying property. While succeeding in the corporate environment is still possible, these same companies are relying increasingly on diversity quotas to ensure young men need to go through an uphill battle to get in and move up the ladder. Also access to information and learning might be easier but the competition for the skills you can learn online has become increasingly saturated. Not only are we competing with everyone in the country but also billions of people from poorer countries who now also have access to the internet and are willing to do that job for a tenth of the price. Besides that the US and many other western countries are having unpresented levels of legal and illegal immigration which creates more competition in the labor market in certain fields as well as driving up the cost of housing.
I appreciate your perspective, and the issues you outlined have validity to them. The redefined version is for sure harder to achieve than the normal old american dream, but the freedom and upside potential is so high here. I still believe there is no easier country to get rich in and move around in
@@whylearntechI think the question here becomes then that should the increased potential and freedom that mostly benefits those privileged enough to take advantage of it trump the stability that use to be present in the middle class? Interested in your opinion on this? Thank you.
If anything, the American dream has expanded. You used to only be able to make it working 70hrs a week wearing down your body for the same boss. Now you can work 70hrs a week with your mind doing side jobs and businesses and get way farther. You used to only be able to figure things out by going to a library or paying for college and accepting what these places tell you. Now you have access to the entire world's present and past knowledge in your pocket and can think for yourself. Heck, it used to be that opportunity only existed for those of the majority ethnic group. Now I, someone who might have been heavily scrutinized in the 1940s America for "looking like the enemy," can walk in with years of work experience and side coding, dress and talk well, and secure a solid career while being treated like any other human, like a real member of the community. This country's pretty great, all said.
I think you are wrong. You spent almost the entire “positive” section on AI and the technology we have. This AI can and will eventually replace the vast majority of office jobs. The fact of the matter is that the US economy is service based and most office jobs are just meeting makers and email senders. These are heavily automatable and will be automated in the very near future. The only thing we can say that has improved is racism/equality which is good. I am all for personal responsibility and think it’s doable to make it work in the USA but it requires perfect discipline and near perfect decision making - no student loans, no car loans, etc. only then can someone have the potential opportunity to buy a home and have security in life.

I think most of the time you’re spot on with your opinions but I disagree with your perception on how easy it is to achieve the American dream today. I think for someone who doesn’t already have an in-demand skill, the time it will take someone to learn computer science or engineering will be too long and they will be outpaced by AI. One of my favorite UA-camrs, David Shapiro, says one of the best future proof skills you can learn is working and communicating with people which I fully agree with. There are a lot of opportunities out there but you have to approach it in a smart way. I think there’s opportunity for smart and motivated entrepreneurs, but most people aren’t intelligent and motivated enough to accomplish something remarkable like that on top of working a job they need to pay the bills. A lot of people think their lives were easier but I agree that they worked harder and had less technology available to them. Great video. Greetings from Finland. To make the American people a little more happy about their situation: due to progressive taxation in the socialist country we live in a 100k€ salary yields a net salary of 59k€ here. And 100k€ is very rare to come by as a salary even for university graduates after long careers.
I make $85,000 and $20,000 is stolen from the federal govt and state govt, and in return I receive absolutely 0 benefits. In America, it’s socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor and middle class. It’s sickening. For $20k in taxes I expect to receive some benefit but we get slapped in the face and our money goes to Israel and other genocidal states.

It’s pretty dead lmao
