    Why put the rotor up so high though? I had a 72 footer with a single Maco five element vertical beam, but I mounted my rotor just two feet off the ground in case there was any trouble. I could repair or adjust it without the hassle of lowering it. I just used a thrust bearing and ran the mast pole all the way down the center of the tower.

    I put up a 200ft. rohn 25 tower with a super lazer 500 cb ant in 1976 and boy did it get out quite a distance. The ant boom was 3" dia. and 40 ft. long with 8 elements vertical and 8 elements horizontal. I took the ant down and sold it but still have the tower.

    An explanation ahead of time, with a full scan of the setup (footings, tower base, cable connection, pulling method) would have been nice. Explaining the 3-point, hinged base, size of the footing, etc., would also have been nice.

    Love the antenna array, what's the stacking distance, looks about 12, 15 feet. I would have put them on the flat side and stack them somewhere around 28 foot mark it would give you more gain plus the flat side helps gain a bit too, 73 man.

    Even with the sky needle type tower the weight of the two Yagi's and rotor that tower should have at least 1 to 2 sets of guyed wires.Dont now what part of the country there in but one bad storm and that tower is History 🙁

    Stacking antennas gives 3db of gain over a single beam but it makes the beam width much narrower. I know many will read that and have no idea what it means but research will do them good.

    Why phase them together vertical polarized instead of horizontal polarized for skip as you lose around 20db from horizontal polarized antennas

    • @1OFGODSOWN
      @1OFGODSOWN 6 років тому

      On skip you lose nothing since the bouncing off of the ionosphere changes the polarity many times.Locally this works best for working base & mobile stations without that loss being horizontal.Mounting them any way other than vertical would have been pure stupidity.Some people read to much BS on the internet & don't really have a clue how signals work. LOL Bet you had no idea that everyone does NOT care about talking skip on 11 meters? bet it never crossed your mind. LOL {:>)

    • @carltope9949
      @carltope9949 6 років тому +1

      you don't lose anything horizontal, if the guy on the other end is horizontal. Ran Wilson lasers for over 12yrs from 76 to around 1990 and 70%of the time horiz was better than vertical for DX

    • @seeharvester
      @seeharvester Рік тому

      I find a horizontal yagi to be much quieter. If I want to talk to mobiles, I use the vertical Antron.

      hardly anyone uses the flat side on 11 meter, you wouldnt hear shit

    • @williammacdonald7084
      @williammacdonald7084 6 років тому

      Not correct only 20db loss on local stations bu more gain on distant skip stations ....do your sums with that system your would go horizontal to talk distance and gain 20db which is a 100 times

    • @1OFGODSOWN
      @1OFGODSOWN 6 років тому +2

      When skip is rolling the signals change polarity it does not matter but if they were horizontal it kills the local mobile signals & those using vertical base antennas.Being vertical makes much more sense on 11 meters.

    Was curious if you guyed the tower or if it is a freestanding that has large enough hunk of concrete in the ground that it doesn't need them? Great video! Hope you'll get you a climbing harness in case you do ever have to work on the rotor. I lost a ham radio friend 2 years ago on May 14, 2014, N4JA Jim Abercrombie, due to a tower accident. He fell from 80 feet up! A climbing harness may have saved his life. He had been a ham since the 1950s. I don't think he should have been up on it to begin with. 76 year old men don't need to be climbing towers! www.arrl.org/news/arrl-volunteer-dxer-james-h-jim-abercrombie-jr-n4ja-sk
