    Brielle is amazing - I met her on Sam & Melissa's channel and I just want to say it's amazing how she has turned this home into a place for people recovering from their FLDS experience to come, be safe, and be healed. ❤❤❤

    Shelise I just wanted to say, as a trauma therapist who has been through trauma, what you are doing with this work is so amazing and beautiful and needed. But on the other side of that coin I know how hard it can be to manage triggers within the work. It is super important to those of us who have chosen this path to help others who have been through the same things that we have been through but it's even more important to put our own mental health first. It's a difficult balance to keep for sure.

      I have a question if you don’t mind. What is the best way to go about finding a good fit for a trauma therapist? I have tried over the years. I made 1 cry half way through my 1 session and she needed a smoke break ( I think I broke her just getting through half my story). I am more than ready and know talk therapy is needed after doing as much healing as I can on my own, I just need the right fit.

    • @graceelizabethhoskins6379
      @graceelizabethhoskins6379 Рік тому

      @@jordy1007x So this is a super great question and the answer is a bit loaded. Finding a therapist is much different than finding any other health professional because you need to click with them. You need to feel as comfortable as possible so that you can be vulnerable. I would recommend looking through Psychology Today and request a consultation over the phone or via email so that you can talk to them before hand and make sure it’s the right fit. I know with my own therapy experiences I prefer someone who is similar to me in opinion and experience so if that’s something you would also prefer, I would say to look for someone who has “lived experience” which is essentially code for “I have also had trauma and use my experience to help others”. So my advice is be picky, you have every right to be. You can also look for someone whose main specialty is trauma and who works with C-PTSD and can handle more “intense” trauma history. But the way those therapists reacted to you was unacceptable. Of course we are human but we are also taught not to have “extreme” reactions and I can’t ever imagine telling someone that their story makes me need a smoke. If anything I am extremely careful when doing trauma work to manage my own responses and emotions.

    What an amazing woman and survivor. I have been captivated by her story over the last two sessions.
    I didn't realise just how dangerous and evil the cult she escaped from was. It was horrific the level of organised effort and lengths the cult would go to, to systematically control it's member's through fear and coerstion.
    Brielle has turned a horrendous negative, into an absolute positive helping other's to recover from their FLDS trauma. A very inspirational women. Thank you so much for telling us your first hand, and inside account of what happened in that cult.

    Seroquel is a strong anti-psychotic used to treat bipolar individuals. I can't imagine being forced to take that medication normally prescribed by a psychiatrist. Psychosis and possibly convulsions would occur to be withdrawn cold turkey. Whatever settlement Briell got wasn't large enough.

    • @AmandaWeeg
      @AmandaWeeg Рік тому +7

      I KNOW!!!! My jaw dropped when I heard that. I was on that med and if I didn’t take it at the same time every day, I felt physically and mentally terrible. And it made me have more suicidal ideation. I cannot imagine quitting that cold turkey. I was only on it maybe a year - it was too terrible for my physical and mental health. Today I’m good and haven’t been on meds for years, thankfully.

    • @C-SD

      I've taken seroquel for years. As a mood stabilizer (not antipsychotic, there is a difference), for chronic pain, and for sleep issues. I don't have bipolar.
      No one should be takingit without a doctors prescription, but demonizing a medication that helps millions of people is not ok.

      I love Seroquel it’s very effective for me, but it is very strong. It’s often prescribed off label as a sedative. I’ve been on many different doses over the years, the highest being 500mg. 800mg is a VERY strong dose and is only given to individuals with very severe or treatment resistant conditions. 😭 Poor woman!

    Brielle is an absolute goddess. I admire her strength and the fact that she's in Short Creek helping people heal with the Dream Center, and yes I *LOVEEEEE* the fact that the house was his and now it's hers to help people with.
    I also have to admit, I didn't know there was a difference between polyamory and polygamy. I have friends that are polyam. I think that is perfectly fine and acceptable if that's what makes them happy. However, I draw a line with polygamy and I believe it's probably because of just the sheer number of cults that employ polygamy in their doctrine.

      Isolated, abused, indoctrinated, abandoned, neglected and controlled... It's mind boggling how this happens in the 2000's, in the United States. I've never been in that predicament, I was just abused by the plain old society, I'm thinking I got off easy, like my shit ain't all that bad.

    An active FLDS woman lives next to our ranch with about 13 young girls all different ages and they appear not to be all siblings. The caretaker is not their mother. One 15 year old told me that the woman was her teacher. That girl was only there a few months and then she was gone. I wanted to rescue her but didn’t know what if anything to do.

      Same, I can't even really do more than 75mg. Part of what makes Seroquel in particular so useful but also scary is it does different things as the dose starts getting higher, I can't imagine being on a high dose when you don't actually need it.

      I have a family member that was given Seroquel and the treatment. I like to see that stuff get off the shells personally Seroquel is dangerous. There are days where I did not know what the reactions were going to be is it going to go badly today is it going to be a good day today it changed her entire perspective of things. She's been off this medication for 12 years and she's 99% right now the 1% I believe because she was giving Seroquel and I did study it and I told the doctor I don't want her on that but at the same time I did not have a choice. I fought like the devil, it was making her sick and throw up be very confrontational with people. Maybe it has something to do with the drug companies conspiracy theory I do believe that is what happened, I have read many posts on this channel that has said Seroquel was not a good option and I know firsthand it was not thank you speaking up about this. You have been through an awful lot I'm coming forward and telling your story is wonderful I love to hear of people that go in and come out the other side being stronger you are one of those people that can now help other people and your inner light is showing just by watching the video I know it's hard my sister is in a cult we gave up trying to change her mind over 30 years ago to no avail. It takes a strong person to get out and once you see it you can see it again A Million Miles Away and somebody else❤❤

    Have been captivated by Brielle‘s story, listening to every word, and trying to imagine what it was like to experience her life up until the point she escaped and then being so brave to successfully navigate through the psychological trauma to where she is today. I live in Nova Scotia Canada. I know that she is one of many stories of young girls, boys, men and women who are out there that will never be heard but we know for a fact of the continued abuse and manipulation and indoctrination. All I was thinking was, in a perfect world, I wish I had known and I would’ve called you and picked you up and brought you to my place in Canada. Brielle I would have taken you as my daughter in a heartbeat! God put you on this earth to be a hero. Please believe that. I have my own struggles but not nearly as difficult. Your association with the dream center is quite impressive. Warren Jeffs has a one way ticket to hell. He is not a god on earth or a god in heaven.
    May you and your husband be blessed with many children.

    I know spaces at shelters are really scares but seriously the fact they saw she was in such a serious mental health situation and they still told her “you can go to the hospital but we won’t hold your bed”. Absolute madness!

    Brielle, you are truly an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your story. I know that it had to be difficult to do that but it really helped me understand how the FLDS community are being oppressed by that despicable man. I’m on the other side of the country but I would love to donate clothing to your Dream Center (props to you for getting that huge house 🎉). Best wishes ❤❤❤

    You are my hero! What a brave woman you are. All I did was leave the mainstream LDS church, and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. What you went through is the stuff of epic tales.

    in high doses, the medications they had Briell on can cause neurological damage. One of the first signs is in the fine motor control for speech. Briell, you sound like you have the FLDS / shortcreek accent; it doesn't come across as an impairment.
