My daughter and I have been playing through Shantae (we also bought the Limited Run version). It was so fun to open it with her, she devoured the manual and memorized all of the character names and sirens we would be encountering. Reminded me so much of when I was a kid and would do the same with my game manuals on the long drive home from Toys R Us!

I love steel books! Right now I’m devising a way for displaying them on the walls in my media room using the magnetic bars seen in kitchens for knives and utensils. For each bar I will use a soft cloth to cover the magnetic bars themselves in order to protect the books from scratching. Steel books are such a wonderful and unique pieces to one’s collection to show friends who didn’t even know such things existed, not to mention for their favorite games! 😄
I have another section next to my regular games for my steel books. Generally they are empty though. I would love to open them up and display them on a wall if I had the space.

Glad to see you're still doing well! It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who values physical games in this digital age. It's so nice to be able to look at my shelf, grab any game, open it up and look at the inserts, then put it in my system and play it. That will never get old, regardless of the "inconvenience" of having to get up to switch games.
The card on the edge of a cd is called an "obi" in Japan I have many of them from my collection of Buck-Tick cd's from japan (great band).
'Obi' means 'belt' or 'sash', and is a traditional belt for kimonos. In addition to being on all Japanese cds, they're also on every book, kinda like a mini book cover over the actual book cover. They are rather collectable, as used stores will mark games down in price if they're missing the obi (or is that up if they have the obi?). This is, of course, referring to PS1 and Saturn games, or any that come in CD cases.

I don’t really have enough games to consider it a “collection” but I like keeping the metal cases separate. I prop them up like pictures on a table against the wall in my game room

Deliver Us the Moon was one of the best games i played all year... the launch scene in the beginning is one of my favorite things ever in a game.
I played the hell out of Little Inferno on my WiiU! That's a pretty sweet collector's edition for it. Definitely a unique game.

I managed to snag the collector's edition for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2. I had the Falcon 2 art Birdhouse deck back when I skated as a kid, so I couldn't pass it up.
I also got the THPS Collectors edition also. Was that actually a graphic on the deck from back then? I thought it was custom for this release. Anyways, I always wanted a Hawk deck and never had one, and now it looks lovely hanging on my wall above my Xbox One X!
My pre-order for TH was cancelled. So did my last of us 2....ive sworn off pre orders
@@markstephens8632 It was most definitely a graphic way back when. Easily one of the more popular ones for Birdhouse back then. When preorders first sold out and I didn't get one, my buddy told me to just try and find one of the original decks from the early 2000s. I found one that some dude was asking $200 for lmao. I went back to GameStop and they had put more preorders up online and I managed to get one.

I Bought some sheet metal from Home Depot and a pack of a ton of magnets on amazon then drilled the sheet metal to a wall and made a steelbook wall. It's basically a giant poster of steelbooks. Just make sure the sheet metal is magnetic, some are not! Super easy and awesome looks project!
I’ve seen people put small magnets low powered magnets on the back of the steel books and then put them on the wall as art cause so many of the steel books have such great designs! Definitely something I want to check out when I have more space!

My wife and I have been talking about getting some shelves installed behind our couch so we can display some of our collectables.I think when we get that situated I'll be displaying my steelbooks on those.

I really liked Little Inferno. I actually bought it for Windows, but never got around to playing it. I recently bought it on Switch and played through it. The story was intriguing and it was fun watching stuff burn! It's not a long game and perfect for a long evening of staring at the in-game fireplace!
Fell in love with Little Inferno on the Wii U. I beat it around Christmas one year
@MetalJesusRocks Did you now that Retro-Bit released the NES or i guess Famicom game Hole Diver. It's very cool box of goodies as well, and a great game.
I bought this summer La-Mulana 1 & 2 Hidden Treasures Edition for the Switch, comes with the 2 games (physical, no digital), a 100 pieces jigsaw puzzle, 2-disc soundtrack and the Hidden Treasures The Tomb of La-Mulana artbook, the whole thing is in an Expedition Kit Collector's Box, all for 80-90$ CAD from Play-Asia.

I got the same Limited Run SoR4 release for PS4, then bought the physical release on Switch so I could play it. I opened the collector clamshell to check out the contents, but left everything else sealed inside. I love it.
I'm a massive steelbook collector and of collector's editions in general. I tend to usually put my steelbooks together with my games in a plastic sleeve and outer hard plastic box.
I call it a minor preservation if you will I dont believe in hard sealed graded type stuff since you'd never get the media out of the actual item. That's just me. On the other hand what I also do is keep the game out separately from the steelbook in a separate case or booklet if I ever think of replaying the game again or going back to it for some other reason.
I picked up the Chex Quest collectors edition from Limited Run. Not a lot of cereal-based video game collectables out there, so it seemed like a rare opportunity.
Collectors edition I wish I had: Metroid Samus Returns Legacy Edition. Nintendo didn't even release this in NA for some reason :(
My favorite collectors edition from this year has to be Ys:Memories of celceta.
Its a good hold over until Ys 9 finally gets released stateside

I have played Little Inferno on Steam back in the day. Great game, very relaxing and fun to play, quite short, but I can't see myself going back to it again having already beat it.
I really enjoyed this video. I think you should do some more collectors edition vids, very interesting. Btw i use my steelbook cases. I put the plastic ones on a shelf in my collection. I have games im playing or plan to play someday (most in the steelbooks) in my tv stand.

Just arrived in the post today for me was the limited editions of Sakuna and Rune Factory 4 Special on Nintendo Switch. Found them for a really good price and they're both lovely editions too.
I got the Mark of the Wolves and King of Fighters '98 collectors editions from Limited Run as well as the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin one. That one is particularly well done. Sweet art book, full OST and a cute omamori charm.
I usually display my collector's editions with all the contents surrounding the box, but lately I've started to get short on space so now I just display the boxes with all the contents inside them.
In Deliver us the Moon the programmers hid a little Easter Egg. There is a book with an author named "Erik Range". He is a german UA-camr also known as "Gronkh". ;)

I scored the Crypto-137 Edition of Destroy All Humans a few weeks back, it's the first time I legit bought a triple digit collector's edition and now I'm eyeing the Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Collector's Edition since it's so cheap right now! I really do I wish I had gotten on the Cyberpunk 2077 collector's edition when it was first announced because those extras sounded amazing!
I got the Final Fantasy VII Remake First Class Edition! They ship you the exact same Deluxe edition you have plus the large Play Arts Kai Cloud figure. You get the same Mini soundtrack, the full OST has to be purchased separately, which I got on 4 disc vinyl! As for Steelbooks, I always put my games into the steelbook and store the plastic case inside the collectors edition box. Then I usually get a plastic box protector to keep from scratching the steelbooks.
I envy you a little for the Shantae Box. And I dont even own a Switch ^^ Shantae is just that much of surprise hit to me. Really nice character, game and box!
Took until 2020 for Street of Rage 4 I am jealous of Metal Jesus but that is awesome to know that one of my favorite Sega Genesis games went from trilogy to 4
I bought the European Xenoblade DE collector's set, and it's on of my favorites. It has a poster, artbook, steelbook and vinyl record, plus mine came with a bonus monado keychain.
Metal Jesus and Hallelujah, perfect combo, this should be a fatality in Mortal Kombat xD
I got the Persona 5 Royal Phantom Thieves Edition, the Trails of Cold Steel IV Limited Edition for PS4 from the NIS America store, the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Deluxe Edition, and the Granblue Fantasy Versus Premium Edition. I got a handful of other collectors editions this year, but they're for games that came out within the past 3 years.

Some fantastic collector editions Jason! Love collector editions. I picked up the Nioh 2 one. Love the artbook that is included!
The reason why your ff7 remake soundtrack is called a mini is because it is a mini soundtrack. (I use to collect cd's for ten years. It was a symptom of my undiagnosed ocd at the time.) Anyways most soundtracks that come with video games as bonuses do not have all the tracks. In order to get all the tracks you will have to order the actual soundtrack. Square sells soundtracks for almost all the final fantasy games on their website thankfully. If anyone is interested.
In Japan it is still common to buy soundtracks to games (cds in general really.) Because the culture has not moved over to streaming yet. Some record companies and big named artists have but if you compare the physical release to the stream release you will notice that some tracks on an album are outright missing or entirely different versions compared to the original release. This is because in Japan when deals are made their copyright laws are a lot more strict then any other country (except maybe china.) As a result video game soundtracks still sell like hotcakes and are another revenue stream for the developers of the game (most musicians are payed for their songs not paid for ssales. They are selling the right or use their song they made in the game and all merchandise, trailers, and other promotional material.)
Most video game soundtracks sell for 40.00 in Japan if imported or your paying a us site that imported the soundtrack for you. You'll be looking anywhere from 40-60 dollars USD.
It's also used as an incentive to get you to buy the full soundtrack.
The only Exception to the rule I know of is the persona 4 dancing game limited edition which comes with the full two disc sound track and all tracks. (I'm sure there are more. Just the one I own and know about.)
Also most people is the USA are just not interested in soundtracks. They are more interested in the game and if they like something they will look it up on UA-cam to listen to it in a compressed format.

Some awesome collectors here. My favorite i got this year is easily Doom Eternal CE cause it came with the Doom Slayers wearable helmet. That is pretty friggin' nice piece!

The Final Fantasy VII Deluxe version should have come with the soundtrack on vinyl.
Not having the Deliver Us To The Moon vinyl colored white or light grey was a miss to me. Still, a great collector's edition.

I played Little Inferno. It was fun. Had to look up how to do some of the things. I loved World of Goo. I played and beat that one on the Wii.

6:07 I’ve only ever heard the term j-card be used to describe the cover inserts for cassettes... I think that would be an obi strip - just like the obi strips on vinyl, but it’s a cute little CD-sized one!

I don't own any Japanese vinyl... it's pretty uncommon here in Seattle...
@@MetalJesusRocks I was lucky enough to travel to Japan with my college marching band, so I brought some back from that trip! (Plus a suitcase full of gaming stuff, too!) But otherwise, I don’t see it commonly out in the wild here in Ohio, either.
Also, just gotta say, I love that there’s a UA-cam channel out there that features both Nintendo games and rock/metal vinyl! It’s like someone put you on UA-cam specifically to cater to my interests! 😂

I got the collectors edition for Ghost Of Tsushima AS SOON as it was available. Masterpiece of a game from my favorite game developers of all time and the collectors edition was well WORTH IT. Comes with so much stuff.
