How would you compare the output/light quality of the joker 800 bounced then pushed through muslin vs your 4 bank Quasar Crossfades bare, when lighting interviews? Of course the booklight would be softer and larger, though perhaps a sheet of muslin over the quasars would soften the light to a similar degree? Also love your work, some of the best cinematography content out right now!
The Jokers through the bounce and muslin are much less than a bare Kino with Quasars since the bleached muslin eats a lot of the output. Kino/Quasars have the benefit of being high output (300W LED) and already are fairly soft. Most times for quick interviews, I'll just use the bare Kino close to the subject without any further diffusion. I find that it gives great contrast in the face while also being a soft source. If I want to further soften the Kino, I'll typically shoot it through a roll of full grid.
To be honest, the setup seemed extravagant - I found the final video disappointing after watching all the gear put into making it. I don't know how the cost of a gig like this justifies the outcome.
My gym paid for the cost of G&E and we were happy to bring out the rest, simply because we have a great relationship with the them. Total cost was around $500 for a 5-part video series meant to sell programming to other gyms- the "final video" was just a bonus.
Not seeing where the extravagant cost is? Stands, silks & Jokers are inexpensive to rent, this setup is usually impractical because of space limitations, not cost - but in a massive warehouse like this, why not? Pretty sure most of the camera/lenses/monitors/aks are owned which is an overhead cost
Wondering if there’s a lower budget setups consisting of aputure or godox cob leds + softbox diffusers would give a similar look, since these are pretty much the youtube standard nowadays.

How do you go about these kinds of shoots with a color/light meter? Since they are more fast paced and youre not exactly setting up each shot specifically how does your process change? Do you just do false color and keep the highlights from blowing and light as needed or do you have a quicker shorthand for your meters for stuff like this?

It actually is the extension unit, I just use a Wooden Camera D-box to convert to Gold Mount batteries and provide extra d-taps. If you're looking for a plate, I recommend WC's Pro Plate on the battery slide which effectively lets you hotswap batteries.

FS7 is already considered old and rusty by some people, but those people don't understand that lighting makes all the difference.

Which v-mount plate do you use/recommend? I noticed one of them you use isn't the official extension unit, and want to get one you use and trust.

How long did it take you to do the initial setup??
About 45 minutes. Everything was on wheels so it was easy to move around.
