    I spent some time in search myself and finally found your video, it's a huge relief!
    Really, I was able to set up built-in Chrome and it was laggy and UNUSABLE, just shitty experience, even though it's the same network and 100 Mbit/s.
    With this app it's another story!

    There is a solution for lower end TVs get a fire stick max that has wifi 6 maybe that could help smooth things out.

      Network speeds don't cause the issue since it's on LAN. It's the TV's hardware that will cause latency issues

    • @ChrisProAU
      @ChrisProAU  2 роки тому +1

      Incorrect.
      Google what LAN stands for.
      Network throughput and latency is equally as important as video encode/decode performance.

    • @cheeseman981
      @cheeseman981 2 роки тому

      @@ChrisProAU Well of course. I was rather referring to the video, when you had < 1 ms network latency but high latency when it came to video encode/decode. A fire stick max would not solve the issue in this case.

      Depends what the decoding on the fire stick is like, might be better than most TV's.

    wow I didn't knew that I can use my Xbox Controller still on PC while playing it via Steam Link.. previously I always unpair my controller and pair it via bluetooth to Android TV, then I use Steam Link (on Android TV), this has a downside which is the vibrating motors are not working, that's a bummer for me. But the advantages is it can reach Android TV more closely, so the bluetooth delay is minimal.

    It is possible to download this app on the Xbox One (I only have third party wireless Xbox controllers and I'm not confident of its ability to work on the TV, but it works on the Xbox), and then play a game like Marvel's Spider-Man if you've purchased the game through Steam on your computer? I'm trying to get the game, but I don't have a Playstation and my computer doesn't have the specs to run it.

    Just wanted to share that I've using Steam Link on a Samsung TV (not a particularly new or beefy one) and it works great. I'm using cables for everything and the delay for your input to be shown on the tv is about 10-20ms which is completely unnoticeable, and there's 0% frame loss. Image looks perfect in my opinion
    But I also found that you have to limit the resolution to about 1080p or the tv can't handle the incoming traffic. And another issue is that the tv seems to be really picky about controllers. It will not work with a lot of models even though the connection menu says it should accept any Xinput controller. Some officially licensed Xbox controllers won't work, for exemple, even wired ones. My GameSir G7 doesn't even turn it's lights on, much less be able to control anything, but my Xbox 360 wired controller works perfectly. Worth looking into it if you're thinking of buying one for this use case

    • @tobymcdaid1061
      @tobymcdaid1061 Рік тому

      I'm connecting to my Samsung TV too but unfortunately even with a very good connection the input delay is noticeable if you've moved from a native PC monitor. It's definitely playable for more relaxed single player games but definitely not good for competitive or multiplayer stuff.

And most probably will buy an USB extension to resolve the gamepad latency; as there isn't much line of sight b/w the controllers and the PC.

      Not all smart tvs have access to the same apps. Some tvs like Samsung only have access to a proprietary App Store. If you have a tv like that, your options are to either buy a compatible tv or an external device.

      Nope it Doesn't work. AUS version doesn't have samsung gaming hub only US UK. Although samsung has a page instructing steamlink, it asks me for the Malaysian english so im might try changing my region to Malaysia. I've given up fo now and just but a streaming mini pc instead. Too much hassle.

    To whomever is contemplating buying a Samsung TV specifically because of the steam link app like I did, there are many drawbacks depending on your setup.
    If your TV and PC are in separate rooms, for example like mine are (25m) apart, there are a number of drawbacks if you want to enjoy your games from the couch.
    1. Any controller besides the xbox 360 one is not supported wirelessly, which defeats the purpose of going for a couch setup in my case at least, as I haven't owned one for a while now.
    2. Even if you do have the Xbox wireless adapter, the tv will not use it to pair the controller. What does this mean? You can only pair via Bluetooth and you are limited to one controller only. Again, defeating the purpose of playing in your living room with friends.
    So far, I have not been able to find a good enough solution and the purchase I've made hasn't been justifien imo 😅
    Please check online after reading this comment as what I've written might change in the future.

      You'd have to look into it but a workaround might be something like this

      If you get 8bitdo adapter (its only 20 bucks) and plug it into the tv usb port pretty much most of the major bluetooth controllers will work with it. Nintendo,playstation and xbox controllers all work with it. I can literally use my old wii u controller and play pc games with it in the living room through steam link. But also works with ps3,4,5 controllers, xbox one/series x controller and even nintendo wii u and switch pro controllers. And the great thing with 8bitdo adapter is it works on on pc,tv and even nintendo switch meaning you can use xbox or playstation controller on switch.

    Without input lag? you dont. You need HDMI source for game mode, or at least ya do on my TV, rendering Steam Link 100% useless.

    What a useless app. Unlike the mobile version the TV one doesn't search automatically (for me at least) for PCs even after typing in my host name and ip address - everything is fine, it's all on the same network and shit but the app just can't find my fucking computer
