It’s so interesting after reading her book that both this song and Not That Far Away both reference her mother. you really start to see the unhealthy control her mother had on her. My heart goes out to her and her truth is really inspiring.

I’m here in 2023 after reading her book and I never realized till now how beautiful her singing voice is. Jennette was amazing as an actress and singer but it wasn’t what she wanted. Living proof that just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’ll make you happy.

Never would have thought that I liked it either but I believe that if the song actually talks about something that I have common ground with, I wouldn’t mind listening to it. This song was enjoyable due to the fact that “Gen Y,” their culture, and their potential for spreading positivity was the subject of the video. Great song.
I see this and just can’t believe the trauma and hurt she was going through. She truly is an amazing actress if you can’t tell how bad her life was at this point in time.
This singing voice is so mature & beautiful so different from what I would hear on icarly. Jennette was not from my childhood- but listening to her book it’s truly shocking to hear what she went through! I hope she is healing ❤️🩹

Andrew Stevens she said in a video with Shane Dawson that she was forced to sing by her manager and team since icarly and Sam and cat were canceled. She even made a joke about her music attempt and said it was terrible and so was her singing. I think she actually had a chance if she stuck with it.

i knew jennette mccurdy could sing, i remember nickelodeon did air her song during the break somehwere when icarly was still in it's early life.
The reason she never made it was because of not using a lot of auto tune in a genre that had already begun using tons of auto tune so without it she didn't have the popular sound which in pop music matters more than vocal talent sadly. It's not the 80s/90s when all you needed was a good voice. By even this point when the song was released you needed a decent voice, an ability to work properly with auto tune, good looks, lyrics devoid of any substance and a willingness to just be cliche pretty much. An artist like Jennette McCurdy wasn't wanted by the labels because she was unique and not just another pretty face who would bow to them for some money and fame. Had she decided to switch fully to country music which she had the voice for she might be a big name rn
