@@javierbenitez2674 Not a silly question. I'd suggest opening up your laptop to see what you'll need exactly. Worst-case, you could purchase the carrier and return it if you ended up not needing it.
I have the before and after benchmarks if anyone is interested. Took a small hit due to RAM speeds, but we have more memory. Again, my apologies for the audio. I didn't realize the weird pops until after uploading. I won't use that audio recording technique in the future, due to those issues.
what about gaming, it's integrated, doesn't it give a 3x boost on performance impact? you added 24gb more ram or 16/20 SO-DIMM only gives more performance overall
@@cliqueimarketing To be honest there was no noticeable performance increase, other than running around 7deg C cooler during looping Cinebench R20 runs. Which I didn't expect. So that was pretty cool. Been over a year, and I haven't had any issues since installing a ridiculous amount of memory.
Hey thanks. I'd never heard of anyone puttin' in sooo much RAM. Like you imply 8 gigs should be enough of an upgrade for most of us, no? Do you have any unpleasant side effects with 32 extra? Also, I thought the main benefit of puttin' in a 500 gig SSD would be 'memory space'. Speed also improves? How much of a speed improvement have you noticed, and are you still noticin' it? I'd never seen anyone use True Image before, so that was real helpful. I don't know if I'll upgrade the SSD, but it doesn't look hard. It'd be even easier with a little more step-by-step instruction with the clone. I guess that's out there somewheres on UA-cam, no? Thanks agin. (My ol' laptop has lost its g ability, unless I control V it, which makes my text kinda folksy, with lotsa droppin' g's.).
Watched your video. Followed instructions. Upgraded No problem but one, I had to buy the Application to back up the image file for drive. But It was only 50 buck which is less than bench charge from repair place. I also figured out I have HDD drive can install in this unit also. Thanks for making video for me.
So happy it was useful for you. Hate you had to pay to backup your drive. This particular laptop was fairly new so I didn't have to worry about losing anything while cloning the boot drive. I've always stored anything "important" on a secondary drive, just in case Windows craps out and I have to recover.
The crazy thing is, the old RAM was running 3200mhz (dynamic). The speeds varied widely.... And CPU-Z showed a JDEC entry of 3200mhz. I didn't know JDEC went up to 3200mhz. I've got a screenshot I can share on Twitter showing the JDEC 3200mhz (1600 JDEC). Maybe it's some custom deviation? It confused me. I've always thought RAM capacity was more important than RAM speeds, so I was ok with the speed hit. And the fact that I was shipped a 32GB stick, instead of the 8GB stick I paid for, is crazy too.. The spec sheet for this laptop was wrong on RAM speeds as well. Odd.
BTW, I really appreciate you supporting the channel. It does mean a lot to me. You've been here since I started uploading content, and I just wanted to say thanks. I'm going to rotate the content, so my next video will either be 4k 30fps quality test between two "cameras", and/or, we're going to tackle that "per core" overclocking issue people have been having with the MSI BIOS, and the clocks not holding. I have a capture card now, so I'll be able to get better quality footage of the BIOS. I'm gonna figure that out.
Thanks for the straight forward video and the links!! getting ready to do this upgrade on my IdeaPad 3 Intel i3 1005G1 81WE Question, Did you or anyone upgrading the ram notice if it was still running in dual channel mode? Thanks Again!
Thanks man! Wish I had time to get back to making videos. Soon, soon. 8GB dual channel. The soldered RAM capacity determines the limit to dual channel. So my ridiculous 32GB RAM stick is only dual for 4GB of the 32GB. The lowest ram "module's" capacity dictates 8GB dual channel, using "Intel Flex Mode" which runs dual when possible if mixmatched RAM "module" capacities are installed.
@@TheSmileyTek Hey, Smiley! Got around to doing my upgrade. 1TB SK Hynix P31 Gold Nvme and 16 Gig of Team Group 2666Mhz ram sick and all went well. CPUid-Z says it is running in dual channel, but I don't know how much of it? However, I picked up 20% increase in ram speed! I was happy about that. Good ram for the price! The drive is double the speed too. I did not repaste CPU, which leads me to a question. Did you use a spreader to apply your new paste? I couldn't quite see in the video. My temps are sneaking up 5 or 6 degs Celsius at idle and I want to do it. Thanks again, hope all is well!
@@TheSmileyTek Haha..sounds good man! I did get the MX-4 with spreader, so here we go..lol. you're right, doesn't take much, you're just filling in the imperfections in the heatsinks and die..I see so many people spreading it too thick and then wonder why their temps are up. Thanks for the quick response! Take care man!
So you mean you have 36 GB RAM installed ! , i will do the same ! but one question , is 2666mhz ok or will it accept higher than that ? I have same laptop but with i5-1035G1 (Quad-Core). And also my NVMe doesn't have that Blue-sticker protection, will it be dangerous as it could get heat by Fan. And what screws are used for that SSD ?
Yes 🤣. Kind of crazy tbh. My beastly gaming pc only has 32. I'd suggest downloading CPU-z and/or HWiNFO to confirm your ram speed. Take the number it shows and times it by 2. For example: CPU-z shows 1200mhz, ram is running 2400mhz, 1333mhz is 2666mhz, and so on. Match that speed, if you're buying a new stick imho. For the NVMe, I'd suggest buying a cheap thermal pad material just in case and cutting it to fit, but it'll be fine without it. Although, there may be a little toasty spot if you sit the laptop on your lap. They get pretty warm. You'll know it's there if you run your hand across the bottom while under drive load.
Ah, the screw. The NVMe drive had a screw already installed. I just moved the standoff that was included in the laptop, back to a different hole for the larger drive. Most NVMe mount screws have been the same size in my builds, but the standoff screw has been different. If you already have an NVMe installed, you will have the screw you need.
Hey!!! I bought an Ideapad 3 with i5 1035G4,8 GB ram and 1 tb hdd+256 gb ssd. You are the first person to put a upgrade video of this laptop. I wanted to know.....after installing the 32 gb ram stick.....is your ideapad working perfectly fine? Because officially the maximum supported memory is 12 gb you know......and can I replace my 256 gb ssd with a 500 gb one? I searched in google but I couldnt find any answers......
That's one of the reasons I decided to upload a video as well. Not much out there. Should be no problem to upgrade the hard drive to a 500GB. I also thought 12GB was the max supported RAM, but after re-reading the spec sheet, I noticed it said max "offered" was 12GB. So 4GB soldered to the board + the stick. And yes, 36GB RAM now, and it works perfectly fine. Seems to be the CPU that determines how much RAM is supported. Just look up your chip to be sure. But I say go for it, and with confidence, you'll be just fine.
@@TheSmileyTek thanks man.....just one more doubt......how did you upload windows 10 home?! Am not a software guy you know.....so I don't know how to do it.....😭

You should be able to use Acronis for a SATA drive as well.
Excellent video, I got this computer in the version with an i5, I want to add a hdd to it but the computer does not have the cable, do you know where I could get it or if any cable would work for me? Thanks for your help
Thanks buddy! If you search for your laptop model, on the Lenovo website, you should be able to find the exact part # in the "maintenance manual" for your specific model. They actually offer more info than most other companies. I was surprised tbh. Good luck.
2 ways. 1) Click on the battery icon in the bottom right Windows task bar and move the "Power" slider all the way to the right (Max performance) Or 2) Right click on the start button, click ⚙ for settings, type power management into the settings search bar. Select power management and select the "Maximum Performance" option. I think it's set to "Balanced" right out of the box.
Shouldn't have to re-apply thermal paste but every few years, if you remove the cooler, or if your cpu temps seem too high. Mine works great with a 32GB stick (36GB total). I was surprised. No errors running Memtest64. No issues at all so far.

(fair warning I'm new to learning about laptop upgrades) Hey I just ordered this laptop and I will be using it to edit photos and video. Would these upgrades help speed things up when launching and using those applications? Thanks in advance!
Sure, no worries. The nature of NVMe ssd, the higher capacity usually translates to faster "read/write". I think there would be a boost in performance with a higher end, high capacity NVMe (1TB and up, but 500GB is still super fast). As far as the memory upgrade. My upgrade did not benefit memory speed, but you will want more memory for video editing, so you can smoothly "scrub" in the timeline. Rendering videos may not be that fast without a true discreet graphics card, but It's a great little laptop. I think bumping up drive capacity and RAM, would benefit your use case for sure. Would probably give you a smoother experience rather than a faster laptop. Hope that helps. Have a great day!
It can handle 32gb ram?... It thought they have a limit or something like 12gb?... I'm planning to upgrade this laptop to improve performance in gaming, its a bit slow when multitasking like doing work and gaming. it even drops frames. do you recommend upgrading? or do I just buy a better pc/laptop?
Hey!! I've seen that this laptop has 4gb of soldered memory, and that is only supports a max of 12gb of memory...did you know this before doing this project and has is caused any issues for you? Just curious, trying to recommend this to a friend on a budget and want to know just how far he can go with upgrades later on down the line.
Sure. Yes, I read the spec sheet, and ordered one 8GB RAM stick. I didn't even noticed I received a 32GB stick until after the install. It shows 36GB now, and passess all Mem Tests I ran on it. It's loaded all 36GB of RAM and held with no errors. So far it's been running perfect with no issues. I'm surprised tbh.
@@ryansandiego1814 For sure. Installing a 32GB was not the plan, but just a mistake in my favor. I re-read the spec sheet, and it says "max offering" is 12GB. I took that as, the max memory included off the shelf. I didn't see anything that said it was the max supported. The i3 1005g1 spec sheet says it supports 64GB memory, luckily.
I upgraded my ideapad 3 with kingston 4 gb ram, but the problem is that it could only be installed backwards. Like your samsung ram was on the first place. Would that be a problem?
No problem. It will only go in one way, so if it seated into the slot, it's correct. My original Ram stick at 4GB, had less "chips" on the memory PCB, so it looks bare on one side. Where as the 32GB is covered on both sides, which make it appear as if it's installed backwards.
Nicely Done. I see there is space for a SATA Drive that can be SSD. Does it comes with SATA cable already attached?? Thanks. Most likely will add 16GB Crucial DDR4 RAM Great Video.. Purchased this model @ $269 plus tax

Unfortunately, I wouldn't think so. It really comes down to core count and the graphics capability. Most newer games are optimized for a minimum of 4 cores, and a discreet GPU to pump out that fps. However, if you upgrade the 256GB hard drive to a snappier 1TB, the read/writes will be faster. If you have a desktop pc that games well, you can always use GeForce Now or Steam Link to game remotely on your laptop. Those services allow you to use your more "powerful" PC's resources to game on your laptop. I've tried Steam Link, and it works pretty well. I've been playing Witcher 3 on this laptop with no issues other than a little latency. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Good question. Based on the Intel Ark website for the intel i3 1005G1 cpu, which runs on the intel 400 series chipset, it can support up to 64GB. However the IdeaPad 3 laptop with the i3 1005G1, shown in the video, has 4GB of memory soldered to the motherboard. This limits dual channel to 8GB, but it will support capacities beyond that. Oh yeah, been a year and it's worked just fine this whole time. Although, it's not really practical to have so much memory in this laptop, but I haven't had any issues. Remember it's only dual channel up to 8GB (2 times the soldered capacity).
can you please tell me what does the heatsink made off? is it aluminium or nickel? it seems you dont put any pasta to gpu can tou tell me where the nvidia position is?
The heatsink is copper. You're correct, I did not put any paste on the iGPU. It didn't have any on there when I opened it up, so I left it the same. It's just an Intel iGPU. It's the silicon "square" to the left of the cpu, that's covered in paste, when I remove the heatsink. There's no additional GPU in this particular model.
Unfortunately the CPU is soldered to the board. There are laptops with removable CPUs, but this is not one of them. I'd upgrade it if it were possible though, for sure.
Since it's an integrated cpu, I can't remove it. I'd have to just buy another laptop to get that upgrade. Trust me though, I definitely would if I could 🤣
can i add a second hard drive? will it allow me to choose which one to boot every time i turn it on? i also use cloudready and it doesn't like to share a hard drive with windows.
You can definitely add a second drive and modify the boot order to boot from the selected drive. I'll have to see if there's an option to toggle, to be prompted at startup. I'll get back to you on that.
Hmm. I can't find them either, yet. If you registered your laptop at Lenovo there should be a way to search for replacements there, and you may find a 45wh. I haven't checked the Lenovo site yet.
Fixed many phones screens with that little kit. I recently upgraded to iFix It. Seems to be a little better quality, but the little green kit did work well.
Unfortunately there is no option to upgrade the graphical performance. The model I have has integrated graphics (iGPU), so it is what it is. Most laptops don't really have many upgrade paths, other than drive capacity, and memory. When buying a laptop they are sort of frozen in time in terms of capability. Most that is. There are some that have options to upgrade a discreet gpu. But, the model in the video isn't one. They are usually more pricey. The only real option is to use Steam Link if you have a PC that can run games well, it let's you use that PC remotely. I've tested it out on this laptop. Works pretty well for single player campaign type games.
The only issue with this upgrade is you might have gotten more ram, but swapping that stick out you lost dual channel mode. 4gb onboard and 4gb stick kept it in dual.
Not sure if I lost dual channel, but yes, some speed was lost (Only getting 2400mhz with the 32 vs 2666mhz with the 4). No XMP options in the BIOS to get 2666 with the 32, of course. CPU-Z reads "dual rank" with both the 4GB or the 32GB installed, but I can't match the speeds of the 4GB. I haven't messed with it too much. It's my wife's laptop. There is a 12GB model; 8GB sodimm + 4GB soldered. I don't think the capacity differences would dictate dual vs single in that case. However, I wouldn't install mismatched capacities in my desktop. Probably best to purchase from Lenovo to ensure the best possible compatibility.
@@TheSmileyTek Anytime you mix ram like that you do loose dual channel. The no XMP just adds even more to it. Personally I would have left it as 8gb myself seeing as I doubt your doing anything that needs a ton of ram to keep the speed boost.
@@TheSmileyTek Its not dual channel mode even if the bios reports it. Modern systems use what's called a flex mode. its only a simulated dual channel. Not actual dual channel.
It does not unfortunately, but if you're a multi-tasker, you could run more programs at once. However, replacing the stock NVMe hard drive, with a "faster read/write" NVMe drive, did speed up program load times.
How is the battery life and is the one with amd ryzen 3 with 4gb ram upgradable... I mean is ram upgradable because I heard in some laptops there is no slot for ram upgrade
Battery life depends on the "battery power setting". I've only used this laptop plugged into the wall, with max performance settings. I could test the battery life tonight, so I can give you an accurate answer. I'm pretty confident there is a slot as well as soldered ram, for both models (intel / ryzen). May be empty or populated based on the config. Remove the back of the laptop, and take a look to be sure. Just take your time when prying the edges of the back cover. I was pretty rough with it, and didn't break anything. Luckily 🤣
Increasing the ram to have 8GB + 4GB, how is the performance? I understand that the dual channel is lost, I would like to know if it is really worth making this change.
In my case, the memory speed dropped, but I have a "ton" of memory. Worth it, if you need more RAM. More memory over memory speed is a trade-off I was ok with. I'd definitely suggest buying straight from Lenovo to ensure perfect capability. I will be doing a before and after upgrade benchmark video on this laptop asap. We've been so busy. As soon as I finish painting my little "UA-cam" area, and getting it setup, I'll be back to uploading.
Smiley TeK I bought a 8GB 3200 MHZ stick since I read that the IdeaPad 3 only has 1 available slot with a max of 12GB of RAM... and I haven’t seen any difference in performance. Do you think getting a new SSD will help?
Nice, on the RAM selection. An 8GB stick was the plan for me too, but I received a 32GB somehow 🤣. I'm guessing you have a 256GB NVMe in it now? The 500GB WD Black I installed has faster read/writes. Get Crystal DiskMark and test the speeds of your current drive. I'll see what mine is with the "upgrade", and let you know.
Smiley TeK actually, that is the only thing I upgraded. The 8GB 3200 MHZ RAM, found out though my laptop can take 16GB and I’m gonna return the 8GB for a 16GB
The more research I've done seems to point towards no. Although, the spec sheet shows a larger capacity battery avaliable, it looks like a different form factor. In other words, it looks like the larger option is a different shape, and wouldn't fit some of the model chassis. I'll let you know if I find different info, but in the meantime you can lower the power draw by changing your power management options. It will run slower, but it will help the battery last longer when not plugged in.

My personal opinion based on the "User Benchmark" data... 1005G1 is newer, 10nm process, 25% to 33% faster cores.. 1005G1 looks better to me. Not if you clone the drive. If you clone the drive like I did, everything will stay identical, including the operating system. Windows license key is tied to the motherboard, so you won't have to input any software key or anything. So 1st you clone the drive, swap out the old with the new, boot up, and that's it.
Are we able to do this for the Lenovo ideapad 3 15 in model 81WE011UUS. I asked the best buy guy and he said its upgradable but 0 to no videos on it lol
I would think so. Laptops are pretty standard fair. Pop it open and take a look at what's going on inside there. Just be gentle with the clips, of course. Half the fun is looking inside and the goods. Is yours 10th gen intel?
Man I want to ask you I saw a space for HDD can I put 1 tb there and what is the model number or size related in this case I would keep my ssd for software + extra space after installing normal hard drive
Sure, you can install a 2.5" SSD or HDD in that spot. You may need to purchase the bracket and "SATA data / power cable". If you go to the Lenovo site, and search your model laptop, you'll find the User Guide, and User Maintenance Guide. The Maintenance Guide has the part numbers for the bracket and cable. But, yes you can have the NVMe and a 2.5" drive in this laptop.
Everything seems as is was before the upgrade, except for speeds and amount of RAM. The system recognizes both modules, and shows "Dual" in CPU-Z, and "2of2" in task manager. Memory clocks were 3200Mhz before, but are now 2400Mhz unfortunately. This laptop doesn't support the 2666Mhz XMP profile. I wasn't aware of JDEC 3200, and I didn't even look until the day I upgraded, but somehow it was running those speeds. I took screenshots of the hardware info and benchmarks before the upgrade. I can make a video comparing the before and after results if you'd like. It now has 36GB RAM, which I've tested with MemTest32 & MemTest64. Runs perfect, with no issues other than the dropped clocks. That's ok though. I'd rather have the extra memory.

I can show those. I'd definitely suggest searching your exact model, and purchasing the memory stick from Lenovo to get the best performance. I assumed I could do better buying a low CL stick, but I lost a little performance. I'll do an update video on the upgrade performance in the next few days. I am working on finalizing my next video to upload tonight. After that I'll show the IdeaPad benchmarks.

I never found documentation that states the max as 16gb, but the laptop's spec sheet said max offering: 12GB. Stills works fine, and passes all memory tests, but it only runs dual channel up to 8GB. Limited by the 4GB soldered memory chip. I planned to add a 8GB stick, but received the 32GB 😆.
Hello Michael, I own the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IIL05 CORE i3. I was told by Lenovo Tech Support that you can only up-grade the ram to 12GB. But when I go to search Crucial only shows the following: 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM. This would give the 15IIL50 a total of 20GB. What is your thought? Thanks!
Unfortunately no. The CPU is soldered to the MB. Typically, with laptops, you get what you pay for with limited upgrade paths. There are some laptops with desktop CPUs, or socketed lower power CPUs.
I ordered an 8GB stick to upgrade to 12GB total. I was literally sent a 32GB stick... 🤣. I did mention it to the vendor (rhymes with shamazon), and they said just keep it. I paid about $40. The 32GB was around $145 at the time. That's crazy. I think I mention that.
You'll need to clone the drive. You may need an external enclosure for the new drive, to use for cloning. See the links in the description, for the one I used. I also used Acronis software to clone my ssd. You won't lose the original Windows or files if you clone. These steps are covered early in the video. Good luck.
Kingston Hyper-X. Way over priced right now. It's 5x what I paid. Although, I paid for an 8GB and received 32GB an error. www.amazon.com/dp/B0848MD5Q6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_35ZHB03QAESWWYGYYC8M?psc=1
Yes. You'll just need some screws to mount the drive to the carrier/ bracket, and the SATA cable (ribbon) that connects to the motherboard. The motherboard header is labeled HDD. See the link in my pinned comment.
@@giannenicolemiranda4169 I use Steam Link to game on this laptop. Steam Link lets you use your "gaming PC" resources to play on another PC, remotely. Works good enough for campaigns, but the latency wouldn't help in a multiplayer game. I'd suggest a laptop with a dedicated GPU for gaming. This one has an integrated GPU, and isn't that great at pushing graphics. But, it's excellent for everything else, so far.
Hmm. I'd start with the Lenovo website. If you've opened it up to see the screen's model number, you can always try panelook.com. May be a long lead time from them, however. Good luck.
I wouldn't think it would. I'd assume that the cpu core count and the integrated gpu may be the issue with lags while gaming. It's best to have a dedicated graphics card and 4 to 6 cpu cores for better gaming.
I saw the spec sheet for this model, and it shows "12GB, max offering". I take that as, the most offered from the manufacturer. The Intel Ark page show the i3 1005G1 maxing out at 64GB. It still runs on the Intel 400 chipset as well. The plan was 12GB, but I ended up with 36 🤣. Works just fine. Still zero issues.
Oh yeah. 36GB. 4 soldered to the board, and the 32GB stick. Works perfectly too. I knew the cpu could handle it, but I wasn't sure the MB would. But, it's a 400 chipset. No problem. This little PC is impressive.
Please help me. I have Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15iil05, 8gb ram (1), i31005g1 and the trash uhd G1 graphics. I want to add a GPU, can I? External GPU or add a GPU inside the hardware. Is it possible? Please tell me if there's any way to do it.
@@TheSmileyTek I found out that I can upgrade to two 8gb ram sticks. I can also add ssd according to crucial's website. Will this boost my gameplay sir? Thanks for replying
Gotcha. If you're running off of a mechanical drive, an ssd upgrade will improve performance. The memory will allow you to run more "things" at the same time, but won't necessarily boost gaming performance. Hope it all works out for you.
Hi. I would like to know how many hours the battery of that laptop lasts ... I'm using a translator so don't judge :) .. I would also like to know if it can be improved. THANK YOU.
35Wh (7.3 hours) & 45Wh (9.6 hours) are the only two battery options available for this model. Mine is the 35Wh. If you turn up power saver mode, the cpu will run @ the slower 1.2Ghz. If you turn down the brightness you might get the max hours. I haven't used it without it being plugged in, so I'm not sure of the "actual" time you'd get out of it. No judgment here, that translator works well. Very clever.
@@TheSmileyTek shopee.ph/search?keyword=ddr4%20sodimm%202666 hey can you suggest which is better im gonna go for 16gb just click the link ty and let me know which is compatible with my device same as your's
You're right, it's pointless and not recommended. I ordered a 8GB stick, for a total of 12GB. Somehow I was sent a 32GB 🤣. I didn't even notice it was 32GB until I booted up after installing it. I haven't had any issues, so I'll leave it. I rarely use that laptop these days. I need to get it back in action. Got a great deal on it. It's perfect for a student.
Can you explain the hit you took on ram speed? Did you get a slower speed than the top speed it could handle? Got this for a xmas present and planning on the upgrades after opening. Thanks! Great video brother!
I have a video almost ready to upload, which goes through the differences. I've been editing it a little bit at a time. I'm really late on getting it up, bit it is coming. With the original mem stick Hardware Info showed it hitting 2666mhz, but capable of 3200mhz. With the new mem stick, I'm only getting 2400mhz, although it's a 2666mhz stick. Unfortunately there's no XMP option in the laptop's custom bios. So no way to speed it up. I'll share the benchmark differences in the "Part 2" video.
So SATA 3 SSDs are limited by SATA 3 speeds of 600MB/s whereas NVMe get speeds in the GB/s. I've always gone with Samsung EVO Plus or Western Digital Black NVMe. They perform well. The larger the capacity of the NVMe drive the faster the speeds. For instance, a 500GB may get 3500MB/s and a 1TB may get closer to 5000MB/s. It just depends on the capability of the chip manufacturer. Personally, I think WD Black NVMe is a good price to performance option. Since this laptop doesn't support Gen 4 PCIe (ie Sabrent Rocket Extreme), I'd just go with a Gen 3.
Oh yeh. No problem at all. The 400 chipset for intel 10th Gen and the i3 1005G1 easily handle this capacity. I'd suggest just going for an 8GB stick for 12GB total. Save a little $. Unless you're doing some video editing of some sort. I haven't come close to needing 36GB of memory.
@@TheSmileyTek Yeah, I will be going with the 8GB. Was just curious if using the 32GB was still working since it's not supposed to support over the 8GB, right?
I haven't found any specs or datasheets saying that it doesn't support anything over 12GB total. I've only found that 12GB (8GB stick + 4GB soldered) was the max amount installed from Lenovo. It seems to just depend on the motherboard chipset, and the CPU. Which in this case is limited by the CPU at 64GB. Here's the "ark intel" link. ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/196588/intel-core-i3-1005g1-processor-4m-cache-up-to-3-40-ghz.html

@@TheSmileyTek what are the average tempratures when idle , while stressing the cpu etc
Hey again, what's the normal temperature for cpu?(laptop) mine for simple use 55-60°
Beautiful!
a nice upgrade

Hey greate video! It would be nice too if you do a similar video for the Ideapad 3 gaming showiing what kind of upgrades could ve done to that laptop.

Those services allow you to use your more "powerful" PC's resources to game on your laptop. I've tried Steam Link, and it works pretty well. Let me know how the upgrade goes, if you get a chance. I'm curious to know.
Heyy I have a IdeaPad 3 but with a AMD 3020e processor 4gig ram. I'm trying to get into gaming so if I upgrade to 32 gig ram will I be able to do so
I have the same laptop but a 14 inch one, is this applicable for me?
Hi, I bought a 15IIL05 laptop and I want to ask you if the laptop recognizes and can use the 32 Gb ram you have added.
Oh yeah, been a year and it's worked just fine this whole time. Although, it's not really practical to have so much memory in this laptop, but I haven't had any issues. Remember it's only dual channel up to 8GB (2 times the soldered capacity).
@@TheSmileyTek so it's not possible to replace the 4gb so dimm ram with a 16gb 2666MHz, 1 module ram?

The heatsink is copper. You're correct, I did not put any paste on the iGPU. It didn't have any on there when I opened it up, so I left it the same. It's just an Intel iGPU. It's the silicon "square" to the left of the cpu, that's covered in paste, when I remove the heatsink. There's no additional GPU in this particular model.

You can definitely add a second drive and modify the boot order to boot from the selected drive. I'll have to see if there's an option to toggle, to be prompted at startup. I'll get back to you on that.
is there a slot for an external gpu? if not is it possible to add a graphics card by PCI-e or USB-C?
Afraid not. Only integrated graphics with this laptop.
Can you help me out? Im looking for an upgrade on the battery department in the near feauture but cant find a better battery life than 35 wats.
Hmm. I can't find them either, yet. If you registered your laptop at Lenovo there should be a way to search for replacements there, and you may find a 45wh. I haven't checked the Lenovo site yet.
How is battery life??
Bro i finally have in my hands the ideapad 3 i5-1035g1 , the disassembly is the same?
Yes. You got it no problem. Just be sure to unplug the battery first, and your good.
I have that same precision tool set from wal-mart! Works great and only $15
Fixed many phones screens with that little kit. I recently upgraded to iFix It. Seems to be a little better quality, but the little green kit did work well.
I have one dumb doubt, i have this laptop with i5 and 10th gen i need to add graphics how to do to this laptop
So I just checked, and it IS running Dual channel. I will link you to a picture on Twitter. Laptops are a little different than desktops.

Here's the pic of CPU-Z memory tab.
@@TheSmileyTek Its not dual channel mode even if the bios reports it. Modern systems use what's called a flex mode. its only a simulated dual channel. Not actual dual channel.
So does adding more ram or replacing them makes the laptop more powerful?
It does not unfortunately, but if you're a multi-tasker, you could run more programs at once. However, replacing the stock NVMe hard drive, with a "faster read/write" NVMe drive, did speed up program load times.
@@TheSmileyTek Oh I see thank you sir. And also thank you for the video 🙂
Luckily 🤣

If it currently has a mechanical drive installed, yes, it will speed up read/write times if you install a SSD.

Smiley TeK thanks !!! I have been looking for upgrades on my laptop since I use it to sim race with my 42 inch monitor and an HDMI cable lolz
Hello,is it possible to upgrade the battery?
The more research I've done seems to point towards no. Although, the spec sheet shows a larger capacity battery avaliable, it looks like a different form factor. In other words, it looks like the larger option is a different shape, and wouldn't fit some of the model chassis. I'll let you know if I find different info, but in the meantime you can lower the power draw by changing your power management options. It will run slower, but it will help the battery last longer when not plugged in.
Can this laptop be used for gaming with the 32 gb RAM?
Unfortunately the additional memory won't boost the graphical performance of this laptop. It's limited by the CPU's integrated "GPU".
Hi, does it have room for a 2.5'' drive in there?
It does. You may need some small screws and the sata power / data ribbon.
Hi, I installed windows 10 because I changed from HDD to M.2 SSD, but i made a backup and apparently i lost the Dolby Audio app which was included, i just got the Realtek audio driver but not the Dolby, do you know how i can install it again? Will be windows deleted because of upgrading the ssd?
Not if you clone the drive. If you clone the drive like I did, everything will stay identical, including the operating system. Windows license key is tied to the motherboard, so you won't have to input any software key or anything. So 1st you clone the drive, swap out the old with the new, boot up, and that's it.

When you added RAM 32GB, is the ram still running dual channel?

Yeah it is. Pointless for me to have that much, but it works fine. Zero mem errors so far. Been a while now.
How u added 32gb ram on max 16gb ram?
I never found documentation that states the max as 16gb, but the laptop's spec sheet said max offering: 12GB. Stills works fine, and passes all memory tests, but it only runs dual channel up to 8GB. Limited by the 4GB soldered memory chip. I planned to add a 8GB stick, but received the 32GB 😆.
Hello Michael,
I own the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IIL05 CORE i3.
I was told by Lenovo Tech Support that you can only up-grade the ram to 12GB. But when I go to search Crucial only shows the following: 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM. This would give the 15IIL50 a total of 20GB. What is your thought?
Thanks!
🤔 I'd take Lenovo's word for it. My laptop has ran perfect with 36GB, but it's not very practical. 12 or 20GB would work just fine from my experience.
can the processor be upgraded to i5?
Unfortunately no. The CPU is soldered to the MB. Typically, with laptops, you get what you pay for with limited upgrade paths. There are some laptops with desktop CPUs, or socketed lower power CPUs.

Can you explain the hit you took on ram speed? Did you get a slower speed than the top speed it could handle? Got this for a xmas present and planning on the upgrades after opening. Thanks! Great video brother!
Also, this is the 1st time for me using a NVME SSD. What do I look for to find the best, quickest, reliable drive?
@@TheSmileyTek Thanks for taking the time to educate me, it's appreciated.
I am doin the same upgrades. Is that 32GB memory still working correctly?
