Superb and clear, including tips from years of experience (battery plug with stiff wires) and reminders of safety when components could be 'live'. Macrium is no longer fully free for cloning but the company is helpful for one off clones. Your guidance on running a SATA SSD alongside NVMe would be truly useful given your vast experience. Also, perhaps you or a reader could clarify that adding RAM to slot 2 makes it double or single channel. I have subscribed.
Nice to know you can get the 20gb of ram in there as the papers all say 12gb max. Getting this laptop myself, and going to keep this info for future upgrades. Thank you :)
Just re-watched your video excellent step by step instructions on the cloning process, doing that now, and install part on the ssd is great. Thanks again
Thanks' great video, will do my Lenovo in a week's time need to order the upgrade ram and SSD and will use the Macrium Reflect 7 also. If possible, could you show another video upgrading the 256GB to a 1Tb size drive, thanks.
Another good tutorial BTW, I upgraded ThinkPad E15 Gen 3 ARE. Unscrew all 8 bolts. Pry up with plastic triangle from left or right front and go around the perimeter carefully. The process is straightforward. However, prepare a piece of double sided tape as SSD2 is a bit loose even after the screw is tightened up. Put the tape under the SSD2 and help it to stay in place. You can put a piece of heat pad on the top of SSD2 and it can transfer heat to copper piece on the cover. RAM shield is held by clips so make sure you put it on the gap on clips.
Thanks for the video. I had a bit of trouble with 16GB on the one slot. 4GB worked BUT I noticed there was a little lag. So I reinstalled the 16GB and waited - after about 40 seconds the 16GB was recognised. Now - because these machines are in the S mode WHEN I replaced the NVMe I was able to get all the files back via MS One Drive. Word of caution on fresh install. Windows of course has registered keys. My install was for Windows 11 Pro but the Windows set it to Windows 11 Home in S mode. I had to login as the windows account user and then the Windows Store let me take it out of S mode. (That's when it promoted me to sign into One Drive). By default, the Windows install didn't have drivers for the touchpad, the wireless or display. But I had a TP Link USB and this allowed me to bootstrap Windows update. Would recommend to get the WiFi 5 as early as possible then reboot and take out your dongle. The WiFi speed was impressive after that on my network. So I went from 4GB/128GB disk to 20GB/256GB disk. And I moved off S mode so I own a bit more of the computer. It runs at half the speed of my Ryzen 5600G but uses a lot less power at rest. So this laptop is now OK. Thanks again for your excellent video and thank you NOT for the music!
The HDD cable extension should be included inside the box. If missing when you bought it. It might be lost, removed or misplace. That's why we should check the label in the box, what are included. And also when opening start on the hedge in between the display. It is easier to open that way compare to starting on the front. That's why it's hard to open and you need a tool to pick it open. I open my Lenovo ideapad 3 slim in 2020. My Nvme M2 still with MS Windows. Now, Windows 11 22H2 version. The HDD connection, what I did is that I put a SATA SSD with 500 GB for dual boot with my Linux as my main OS (Big Linux & Linux Mint). With my Linux OS it improves significantly in performance and UI. As I do a lot of lectures with programmings, software and hardware. Battery life is much better than windows. No ads in my lecture whenever I use youtube and office suite and python is smoother. All my doc, slideshow and spreadsheets all function properly without any problems. And the best thing using Linux is I save a lot no headaches with payments or holdup my files. It's all in my channel too. Anyways, keep up the great work.
You really should reuse the thermal tape that was on the original ssd. On the inside of the bottom cover is a piece made of copper that when reassembled helps keep the drive cool. NVME drives are fast but get hot in the process and that cooling should help the lifespan of the drive.
Hi. Thanks for the tip. The ssd I installed has it's own heat absorber, it's the actual label applied by crucial. This is not a high performance laptop by any means. In some cases I will apply my own heat pads, such as a gaming laptop. Each install is different. But I agree. Heat is always a consideration when installing nvme ssd. There are many schools of thought on this issue. I appreciate your thoughts. Dale

Thats offical Maximum RAM, but I have seen that IdeaPad slim 3i going upto (32+4) 36GB RAM. Just make sure that your processors supports the sizes you would install. 8+4 (officially) will be last size that Lenovo seems to technically support, beyond that maybe they don't give any technical optimization, but still they will work if both RAM have same speeds and within the processors supporting size.

Can I install 1tb hdd?
👍👍👍👍
Everytime I see that yellow cab, another Lenovo gets an enema.
Hi Dale can I install 2.5inch sata HDD / SSD as well ??
Hi. Unfortunately, this model doesn't come with the 2.5 inch caddy or cable to install a sata ssd.
@@CadillacComputerCenter Thank You Sir
Cable and caddy are not included but I did see it it has the connector for it.
NBX0001S900 Looks to be the correct cable. For an an SSD can probably cheap out on the bracket, just use 2x-sided tape. But for a traditional HDD the caddy is really required.
If I have to do a fresh install of Windows 10, for any reason, would I need a Windows Key. Is the key included?
The code is "linked" to the system as long as you had logged into your microsoft account .. after install when you log back in it turns it paid for
@@darunealbane Thanks for the info 👍

Great information video. This will help me out with some upgrades. You gained a new subscriber today......me thanks again
How much can you upgrade ram
Does a ssd give you more storage gb?
hey great video, i just got me that laptop today, but i have one question, you put an extra 16gb ram, but the lenovo tech told me the max is 12, i dont know how you are able to go 20gb ram, they told me to get an 8gb ram cause the total ram is 12, not 16 or 20,.. so can i go 16gb ram, let me know thanks,..great video
Try wmic memphysical get maxcapacity to see what your processor can take. You won't need able to go past that
Any one knows if a ram upgrade in my brand new Ideapad 3 will void my warranty?
good day sir , can i use other brand of ram stick? i cant seem to find a timetec 16gb ddr4 2666 in my side of the world , all i can find at the local store is a crucial ddr4 16gb 2666mhz
Hi. Crucial is good ram..
@@CadillacComputerCenter weird thing is lenovo support does not recommend that i go beyond 8gb ram , saying that it will cause issues leading to the laptop not booting which is in contrast to your video in which ytou were able to boot after upgrading ram to 20gb
