From its birth, the ancient 🇬🇷 Greek city of Thessaloniki was founded in 315 BC. by the Greek Macedonian general Cassander, who came from the Dynasty of the Antipatrides and was one of the successors of Alexander the Great. So it is historically a purely Greek city. Over the centuries various foreign raiders and invasions such as Slavs, Bulgarians and finally Ottomans wanted to grab it by conquering it. However with struggles and sacrifices the
Greeks drove out the invading Ottoman Turks and liberated their Greek ancestral home of Thessaloniki in the second Balkan war and all of Macedonia and Thrace.
The Greeks have always been a small people numerically, for thousands of years as a nation geographically we have been between West and East. We are the eastern wall of Europe that innumerable enemies have crossed to wipe us out, but we always fight with the help of Almighty God for our survival and our freedom like every free people and nation and in the end we always... win 🇬🇷 !
Thank and Glory to God ✝️!

With the end of Turkish rule, a 500-year-old Jewish era also came to an end. My family had several businesses and houses in this once flourishing Sephardic port city. They were expropriated and had to flee. The takeover by the Greeks and later the Nazi terror left only a few of our architecture and graves in this beautiful city. That is the course of history and all peoples suffered at that time, so I do not want to blame anyone from the present for the actions of the past. That is not anyone's job.

It is very sad and inhuman that happened to the Jews of Thessaloniki by the Germans and their Greek fascist collaborators, I would like to apologize on behalf of the Greek people

The Greek resistance against the Nazis was the strongest in Europe. No one resisted the Nazis as courageously and heroically as the Greek people did. Also, many Greeks hid the Jews in their homes with enormous risks for their own families. Many Greek bishops and priests issued fake ID cards for the Greek Jews stating they were Christians, There were very few Greek collaborators

Exchanged together with millions of Greeks from Asia Minor, however Thessaloniki was never a Turkish city.

The just left the city willingly, before 1922 or by force, according to the decision of kemal ataturk, about exchanging of Christian and Muslim minorities between Greece and turkey. Muslims moved safely to turkey, though Greeks from Anatolia were killed ( less yhan half of them made it to Greece ( it’s the difference of cultural level and the honest application of the agreement , between the 2 nations).
