    Thank you for that I also have a 1997 bmw 740 I'll and it's been sitting and I'm putting it back on the road and I was needing a video on how to replace the air compressor

      Sure! Do you mean the compressor for your air suspension system? I assume it's not the A/C compressor that you are concerned with in the Winter. :) There aren't many videos on UA-cam about that. I do have air suspension on my M Sport model and will find a chance to show how to work on them, though they are in good shape and I am in no need of replacement.

      You are welcome! Looks like it's a separate stretch belt on the A/C. Here is what I think you can do to replace it. Don't take my words though, as I don't have this model to test the process. Without a tensioner to release tension, the easiest way of removal is to simply cut the old belt if you don't plan to reuse it. To install, put the new belt on the A/C pulley first, and then partially on the crankshaft pulley. Make sure it's well aligned with the grooves. Now you can start to turn the crankshaft pulley to gradually guide the belt onto the pulley. You will need a long breaker bar or ratchet to overcome compression (unless you remove spark plugs) to turn the crankshaft. There are tools that can make this process easier, for example with a stretch belt remover / installer like this: amzn.to/3MCsxJB (also watch the video on the product page to see how it works)

    9/3/24 Bought my parts today from Rock Auto. Used your parts numbers. Thanks. Will let you know how it goes.

      Great! It should be straightforward but take your time and make sure to hand thread the bolts on first. Check drive belt groove alignment/seating before testing the engine/belt. Keep us posted.

      11/1/24 ok finally got to it today. All was going fine until I had to take the pin out. The bottom bolt broke off😢. I was pulling to get the pin out and bam the bolt broke. So I got onto RockAuto and had to order another one. It is under warranty (they say). Arrives 11/13.

      11/11/24 finished, done. All went well. When pulling the pin out just pull back a little. Ordered the exact parts he said to. Cost belt $18, tensioner $36.

      Had 140,543 miles on the belt and it had cracks. Ready to be changed. Luckily it went this long😊

    Do you put the PIN back before starting the engine ?

    • @profsg
      @profsg  2 місяці тому +1

      No, the pin should be removed for the tensioner to work. It was only used for the installation process, to make it easier to put the belt on before putting tension back on. Hope it makes sense, and do not put back the pin. You could store the pin in your toolbox for next time.
