My SLS Black Series finally has a new steering wheel upgrade to replace the original dated one! The bespoke Carbontastic wheel will directly replace the original, and has a spec to fully match the car's interior. There's a hiccup along the way... but it certainly looks the part!
That steering wheel reminds me of that weird old guy you visited on your US tour who owned them horrendous and shocking chrome Lamborghini’s. The old wheel is much more suited to the black series Tim, keeps the nostalgia of that masterpiece. But if it makes you happy then that’s all that matters mate.
DJRICKYDEEUK I get what you’re saying, it’s becoming a bit of a Mercedes advertisement channel, but guess he’s kinda limited on content due to the ‘pandemic’ and restrictions on travel that entails. But personally I think he’s doing the best content with what’s available to him. It’s great to see him driving the car’s he does have with him to the limit of his skill level on the ring.
@DJRICKYDEEUK I think during covid and whats happening in Europe thats why content hasn't been as varied! Its still a lot better than most on UA-cam! Keep up the good work Tim.
Have you ever seen the original sls wheel? It is straight out of the c series at the time and is plasticky and horrible. It didn’t fit at the time and a lot of reviewers thought it was a big issue with the interior. This is a massive upgrade.
Jackson Drills well they’re not made of horrible materials, and they don’t look like they’re out of place in the car. I’ve been in an actual sls. The steering wheel is by far the most awful part of the car.
Love all of your mercedes content. Always have the best mercedes reviews, insight, details, and awesome mods. Very much appreciate and enjoy your videos. Thank you!
Its your car after all, but honestly I dislike it very much. Looks misplaced in that car, also not all buttons work and with the airbag being from a different vehicle it might actually be dangerous for you in a case of an accident.
This steering wheel is actually one of, if not the nicest and exciting upgrades you have made for your cars. There is just something so special about steering wheels and the way they look. Really, really cool, Tim!
I upgraded the steering wheel in my Corvette, and it's one of those modifications that is very underrated: I love the new wheel, and it feels amazing to touch and look at every time.
What's so wrong about having an opinion. Shmee's business is centered about sharing content and people watching and commenting about it. It's how he pays for the cars in the fist place. He can do whatever he wants but we can all have opinion. In this case he is ruining a limited edition 500k merc with a stupid out of place aftermarket wheel. But he can do whatever he wants because it's his and not mine.
The red double line matches the rest of the red interior stitching. Looking forward to how it looks when all the tech is working. Keep up the good work.
Looks so much better than the old one. Regarding the cruise control stalk - the older separate stalk most likely is analog, meaning it has individual wire for each button and a control module that these wires are connected to. On the new steering wheel, all the steering buttons are digital through a single can line - If he could build a separate controller that translates the corresponding can signal to an analog output you could also get the cruise control working and replace the separate stalk with a blank. For the shift paddles - on the new ones the buttons are probably sending different digital code and the control module does not know what to do with it.
Don’t get me wrong, my hood isn’t as long as the sls, but pretty long non the less. Basically just slowly creep out with your nose and trust that others won’t hit till you can see
i hate how car guys all give they’re opinion... tbh i love it but really, ITS YOUR CAR, so you get what you want and i shouldn’t judge you at all to begin with. i love the channel, keep it up Tim!
Well many do not like the new wheel but I think it looks much more modern but the airbag stitching does look a bit untidy. I’m thinking the bill is huge..£2500/3000 or so...BUT keep the original to return it to standard in case of future resale. 🙂🙂😎😎
Carbontastic does an excellent job on their steering wheels! Over the top. Too bad the cost of 1 wheel would cost more than my car! LOL At least we can live vicariously through you Tim!
@@Shmee150 It surely did but it looks spot on! I hope guys from Carbontastic and Renntech will be able to fix the issue with the shifting paddles soon.
At the end of the day, it’s your car. Personally, I would have gone for the steering wheel and indicator stalk from the sls e-cell, fits the car better.
It's taken some time but I'm now fully behind the colour change. Always looks soooo good - especially under the different garage lighting. The red stitching on the wheel makes sense too, adds in nicely to the red stitching around the dash and the red seat belts. A few bits needed here and there isn't too bad either - I dare say there'd be a lot of other, not necessarily older, cars where you'd need a blank cheque to be able to put this many miles on.
I liked it the way it came out of the factory. I just prefer it when everything is Original. But anyways the steering wheel itself looks nicely made with the carbon and stitching
Have to agree with a lot of people on here Tim the first thing my eye was drawn to was the terrible red stitching on the air bag in this case less is deffo more. Keep up the good work but change the air bag to a plain one 👍👍👍👍👍
It's where us Brits would go back in the day for overpriced, poorly made interior and exterior "upgrades"! They still sell a smaller selection of abysmal products I believe. Check them out on line.
I really don't think it matches the car. In my opinion, it shouldn't have a brand new steering wheel in it when the rest of the interior still looks "dated". This way the steering wheel doesn't really blend in. The interior looking dated also has its character and it just shows from what time the car really is. I think that's cool. But it's of course up to you to decide. Love your SLS BS in general, though!
I have to agree with others, the new wheel looks great other than the airbag. At least you could just get the the airbag redone if it didn't turn out how you wanted. But that's how you want it so looks great either way
Y'all may not like the red stitching but he is making this car for HIMSELF! Everyone is welcome to do as they please to their own cars to fit their own tastes.

Nice upgrade and great vid
Nice installation!
@Shmee150, hello how ur having fun
The airbag seems way smaller/compact compared to the old one.
That's very nice man
Overall a very nice wheel. Just not the biggest fan of the red stitching on the airbag itself.
agreed
Too much of the boy racer look
I agree, the weave on the carbon also looks like it has been aqua dipped. Doesn't match the rest of the interior at all.
It's a bit overkill imo
I think if the airbag was leather it would've looked better
The red stitching around the airbag ruins it for me it makes it look too tacky.
Everything with that steering is sooo wrong, tacky looking.
It just updates the car, also better grip over all while on track, also u never no how many people have sneezed on it 😂😂😂
@@sadiausman3625 know*
It would've been perfect without the airbag red stitching 😮
The circle double stitch is too much for my liking.
The stitched circles dont look even either.
nah i think it looks great
I think he knows it but didn’t want to feign his delight. He should have gotten the wheel in the GTR instead.
Dude that red stitching on the airbag ...
It looks like it was ordered from ebay
Red stitch on the airbag and logo must go. Sorry Tim.
Ooh it so nice...
...is shite! Yep, agree☝️
The middle of the steering wheels isn't lined out horizontaly. The horns and the text "airbag" are not lined out great.
@Unintended Consequences I knew there was something else I saw. If I was Schmee I would let it be re-upholstered.
I liked the original steering wheel, gave it character
That steering wheel reminds me of that weird old guy you visited on your US tour who owned them horrendous and shocking chrome Lamborghini’s.
The old wheel is much more suited to the black series Tim, keeps the nostalgia of that masterpiece. But if it makes you happy then that’s all that matters mate.
Prefer the original wheel, the new one looks like it came from Home Bargains.
So tackyyy

@@dannyrobinson3480 Nothing wrong with Home Bargains I just wouldn't buy my steering wheel from them.
Is the “AIRBAG” embossing crooked or just odd camera angles?
Definitely not straight, looks awful
@@scottcampbell10 think so too. Cheap made if u ask me🤔
Immediately noticeable
The steering wheel is perfectly straight it’s slights cocked to the left
Yes it is, and the horn simbols are too. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
It’s a sign Tim don’t change the steering wheel, doesn’t really fit the interior.
yes it does fit very nicely
fits perfectly
Martin Wong kind of, kind of not.
Maybe if it had blue instead of red stitching would make a perfect match
@@leoard12 No it wouldn't...
Older cars have older interiors, no point replacing original parts
Have you ever seen the original sls wheel? It is straight out of the c series at the time and is plasticky and horrible. It didn’t fit at the time and a lot of reviewers thought it was a big issue with the interior. This is a massive upgrade.
Josh why not replace the body work, engine, seats, wheels and centre console why you’re at it then, there are more upgrades to be made!
Jackson Drills well they’re not made of horrible materials, and they don’t look like they’re out of place in the car. I’ve been in an actual sls. The steering wheel is by far the most awful part of the car.
Keep it original, that’s what makes the car beautiful
The airbag embossing looks like it was done by a blind man after 6 shots of Vodka.
If someone kidnapped you and is making you do this, blink twice
Lol nice one
He gets paid by the guy from Carbontastic to do this video, duh
wouldn’t have chosen red on the airbag but other than that it looks lovely.
The beauty of this channel,, factual, real and honest, real ups and downs with cars

I really love that steering wheel! Looks super beautiful and lovely! Red stitching looks 🔥!
Thank you! 😊

Not a fan of later model steering wheel on older model. Looks wrong imo...
Feels like when you order stuff from Wish!
Looks incredible! Was impatiently waiting for this upgrade!

Filip Biesemans «Dont do it» isnt an opinion tho
I'm all for modding steering wheels but I really liked this stock wheel. It really added to the character and drama of having a unique, special car
wow lots of opposition! personally I like it minus the airbag stitching. It improves functionality.

Carbontastic does beautiful work. Eric is the man!
Man that airbag stitching is not on, the rest looks great
Awesome Upgraded steering wheel, Shmee !!!!!!!!!!!!! Two thumbs way up , Sir !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nooooo.. just keep it original.😭
His car his choice i think the wheel looks great could definitely have the airbag redone maybe without the switching and fix the crooked emblems
Shmee likes it like that so leave him alone
Looking awesome! Also good choice not to go for rev lights. Cheers from Croatia Shmee :)
The contrast is amazing. Tim you are the spec king it just looks gorgeous!
Very cool! Your videos never fail to entertain Shmee.
Glad you like them!
I appreciate the level of interaction here on UA-cam and also Instagram! I see you replying to fans all the time and it’s great to see.
As someone that’s learning to drive, how on earth do you take a blind corner in a front mid engine car like the SLS BS?
You just have to put up without being able to see! It's mightily annoying
Don’t get me wrong, my hood isn’t as long as the sls, but pretty long non the less. Basically just slowly creep out with your nose and trust that others won’t hit till you can see
You just have to inch out, making sure to make eye contact with the oncoming driver and don't hesitate when you have an opening.
You should try pulling out of a field in a tractor 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Honestly thought that it wouldn"t match, but I have to say I was wrong and i like it a lot. Great content as always!
