    Niiice, you are the first reviewer of the new CFX3 line, I'm looking for the small 35, but no YT info anyware ;) I'm a old owner of the WAECO Coolfreeze CF-35 with the internal battery, lowe it, but now it is time to get a new one ;)

      I did get to spend some time with the cfx3 35. I dont believe it has an internal battery but it has very similar features as the others. Obviously just smaller.

    great review I am buying a sailboat and it has a ice box that i was going to convert to a fridge the compressor and cold plate would cost the same as this unit and this would be much more efficient as for the ice box i will use it for the can beverage

    How is the power consumption? I have to make I choice between the dometic cfx 3 75dz or engel md 60 FC. Dometic says 75watt, Engel only 52w. How is your experience? What battery do you use? How long you can stay without loading?

  • @RR-or5ip

    Can this be plugged in to AC and DC at the same time? I have an Engel that can and it will default to AC but if there is a power outage it will then draw from the 12v DC.

      I do believe there is a cheaper fridge under the mobicool brand. But I have never used one. We've been using this for 2 months now and currently in Morocco and its been extremely reliable.

    Question: how do you outsmart the smart system to bypass the 'avoid low voltage' flash? I have a Lithium battery, which is able to be run down to almost nothing, yet when the voltage drops below 11.1 volts, the fridge switches off. Yet, it should be able to continually run off the lithium battery....

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  4 роки тому +1

      There is an override switch. Look in the manual for your specific model. This problem is not specific to Dometic fridges but to all 12volt devices. A more permanent solution is to install a 12v voltage regulator which can be bought cheaply online. This will maintain proper operating voltage which many lithium batteries don’t have built in but in my opinion is essential.

    How has this held up? I'm looking at this fridge and the National Luna Legacy 72 dual zone. Sounds like there is an issue with the dometic board in that you can't have both power sources plugged in at the same time but I'm sure how big of a deal that is. Would you want the National Luna one instead after running this for 7mo?

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  4 роки тому

      This is holding up great. We have used it daily since January. We only power it with the DC plug. Didn't even occur to me that sometime might want both plugged in. I'm not sure why that would be needed.

    • @vin9976
      @vin9976 4 роки тому

      @@freelyroaming Apparently people plug into AC at home or at an RV site to pre-cool the fridge at times or save the battery. I'm not an expert tho. Is your fridge just plugged into a battery 100% and you just charge that battery via AC, Alternator or Solar? Thanks for the info btw. You guys are fairly inspiring lol. I just ordered a Scout Kenai pickup camper! Not sure we'll make it Morroco but BC will be fun :). Cheers!

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  4 роки тому +1

      We charge the van batteries mainly with solar and dc-dc charger when we drive. The fridge never leaves the van since it is a fixed appliance in our use case. I can see people wanting to bring it in the house to chill which wouldn't be a problem either since you will still be plugged into only AC in that case. I don't really see a situation when you need both to be plugged in. And just to be clear I have not personally tested to know that having both plugged in won't work. I've not actually heard anything about that being an issue. At a campground we would still run it off of the van battery and just let the AC battery charger keeping it topped off.

      @@freelyroaming Cool, that's helpful. How easy is it for the kids to access the fridge and open and close it? My boys (8 & 6) kind of suck at closing...anything. Is it pretty easy for kids to close the fridge doors properly?

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  3 роки тому

      Since they are young it might take them a couple times to get it right but there is a notable and positive click when it closes.

    Not getting an answer from Dometic on why you cannot use an extension cord with the CFX3? Clearly stated in their video...how to use your CFX3
    Tough when you're at a campsite and the electrical box is 20 yards away? 🤔
    Any ideas?

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  4 роки тому +1

      I think if it's an AC cord plugged into an inverter you should be fine. But DC power can drop a lot of voltage over short distances and these fridges are made to operate only within a certain DC voltage range. I would imagine that is why they say that.

    Hi mate, nice viedeo like always. Thinking about buying this one, because I'm not happy with the engel md 60 FC. I have a 75ah optima yellow agm Batterie with 200 Watts permanently solar on it. And a mobile 100 watt solar to put on top by standing. Do you think that is enough power for a long weekend (4 days)? I mean it needs a lot of power... 🤔

    • @freelyroaming
      @freelyroaming  4 роки тому

      I believe that is plenty for this fridge. Definitely for 4 days. Possible indefinitely if you have 200 watts of solar and the days are relatively sunny.

      @@freelyroaming do you think is it worth to buy the new or the old one? I dont see reason why i should buy the new one if the old one is cheaper as it is conaidered an old model and stores seems to have offer of them to get rid of the stock for the new one!

      @@bu3azoozz263 hey mate, I had this same conundrum: do I settle for a cheaper older model or wait for a sale on the newer CFX3 series? I went for a new CFX3 55L for the following reasons:
      1. Lighter 2. Newer more efficient motor 3. The refrigeration could encircle the entire box from fall to lid unlike the older CFX series. 4. (If buying a 35 or 45L fridge) The compressor is now at back, and you no longer have to reach over that smaller space to access your larger compartments. 5. That smaller space above the compressor is now refrigerated too, unlike the older CFX series being dead space.
      The only cons: they don't come with a cover which must be purchased separately (though wait for a flash sale). Which is stupid to be honest.
