The number of people who miss the "cows" at the end on their first watch... surprises me. One great thing about Firefly is that every episode develops all the main characters, even if it's just a throwaway remark or a "Day in the life" scene. Jayne knowing a multi-syllable syllable word. Wash's playful lust for Zoe. A card game with chores as stakes(Jayne cheating, of course). River being triggered into a schizo break and then a while later reading Badger like a book and turning into a chameleon. Zoe slapping Mal down for being mean to Kaylee.
What we will probably be doing is bringing in more reactors to do other shows and firefly will be finished by Catherine every few weeks throughout the year

You're about five or six episodes away from that being an even remotely well timed joke. It's like a comedian telling the punchline BEFORE the joke, but worse yet, his audience hasn't even ARRIVED yet.🙄
A production company with excellent producers, writers, actors, all the folks, takes a little time to understand exactly how the chemistry will work out- Orjgjnal Star Trek took almost half of its fiest season. Thjs is the 4th episode, and many of us believe that this is the first one where everything balanced out exactly right.
"My works illegal, but at least it's honest" Mal points out that Inara and most of those in that High Society ball are putting on faces. Acting. Pretending to be something or someone. Mal doesn't like that even in his own work. He had a hard time doing the subtle "we aren't doing crime" talk with Sash guy. He wanted to cut to the chase.
"I think that was my favorite episode yet" - new Browncoats tend to repeat that line A LOT as they journey through this canceled masterpiece. The movie 'Serenity' does complete the story arc.
she's not allergic to them or anything but Jewel Staite is not overly fond of strawberries. which became a problem when episodes where Kaylee eats some & fans started inundating her with strawberries as tribute to Kaylee. please, fellow fans - no more strawberries.
Joss Wheedon knew the network might screw up the order. The 3 after the pilot were made to be a pilot in a pinch. (and the "train job" was a pilot in a pinch)

One thing you could do would be to reduce the rate at which you react, if you want to share your reactions but need to spread them out further apart I think we would all be fine with that. When it aired, I only got as far as Ep3; I really did not like that one. I was against the show because they cancelled "Dark Angel" to make room for this show. Jewel made a big impression on me. I loved her a Kaylee and as Jennifer in Stargate: Atlantis. I once heard her comment on the relation with Simon and with Rodney. I don't think she was fair since Kaylee and Simon has so few episodes while Jennifer and Rodney had a few seasons together.
Mannikins take a reasonable amount of industry (such as a plastics industry) to manufacture. Human models are self-manufacturing. And remember, this is a planet where indentured servitude (ie slavery) appears to be legal, which reduces the economic value of human labour even more.

River didn't have much in this episode but I just love the scene with her and Badger. Mark Sheppard worked with Summer to get the accent just right.

Jewel Staite has said that she was asked to put on weight to play Kaylee. The creators wanted Kaylee to look like she enjoyed a good meal.
