Note to self: don’t try and film when you’re that tired 😅 This challenge has been so interesting, I can’t wait to try it again! PS I had some issues with the sound halfway through the video, it should’ve be a problem in the next ones!
@@BookswithEmilyFoxI was really focused on reading only my tbr. I dnfed a bunch and also unhauled some. After owning some of them for a few years, some books weren't interesting to me anymore. Now I will try to keep it around 10 😁
I love the read it or unhaul challenge. It honestly encourages to me to stop reading a book if I'm not enjoying myself and not feel guilty about it. I hope you continue it in 2024.
*laughs in 767 books on my tbr* As a fantasy reader my goal is to read series or DNF and unhaul them. Which honestly makes this kind of challenge easier? In good news, even with all of my buying (over 300 books) and unhauling (about 250) I still brought my tbr down and I’m getting good at curating my book buying to things I’ll love.
Hopefully now that you’ve removed so many books that weren’t your cup of tea-next year there will be more hits!! Love this challenge. So sorry to put you through the pain for our entertainment 😂
This is the challenge that made me find your channel and I love it! It's so chaotic and entertaining. Skipping months where you're not feeling it is a good idea, as funny as it is to watch you have to decide we don't *actually* want you to torture yourself over it 😆
This challenge made me learn to DNF books when the storyline doesn't suit me. Also, I can't wait for you to share with us reorganizing the library to have all the unread books on the top shelf!
I am trying this 'glass jar challenge' for my physical books. Mine is very small, with around 40 little papers for the books, but I'm looking forward to it next year.
I love the read it or unhaul it challenge. I’ve started doing the challenge myself a couple weeks ago and it’s making me pick up books that have sat on my shelves for years. I currently have about 350 unread books.
Honestly have to say due to this challenge I have been more willing to get rid of books I don't particularly enjoy reading. Although my pile of possibilities keeps changing dramatically throughout the year, it makes me feel better to know that only the lucky few will get to stay.
I love watching this challenge! This year my tbr of books I already own started at 127, I read 130 books this year, and now I have 229 books I've purchased waiting on my tbr...
I dont have the space and money for a lengthy physical TBR, but this was my first year following booktube and my TBR-from-the-library spreadsheet is getting close to 500 titles. I did a little clean-up but this challenge inspired me to try setting up some spin wheels or random number generators and doing something similar to the jar like that.
I had so much fun with this challenge, and it's inspired me to do something similar, but with using my TBR jar instead of physical books on my shelves, as tons of my books are currently in boxes that I don't have access to. Thanks for struggling through this project with us! I'm sure it was far more fun for us than you. 😂
I love this idea! I have so many random books that probably aren't my taste anymore and it would help me tackle my owned tbr... but where to buy a massive jar?😂😂 I think you did great! Better odds each year as you cull the duds.
Read it or unhaul it is literally my favorite series of entire booktube it’s super interesting and I love watching them. Looking forward to more of them🥰
i honestly need to do something like this too. I went through a collecting phase and now I have so many books I havent read and Im not sure i will even like. Maybe I will use you as inspiration and do a challenge just like this for myself!
Now that you're better at unhauling books, you should do an end of the year clean out of the unhaul shelf. Get that bad energy gone! And I really do like the read it or unhaul it challenge cause I'm doing the same thing. I'm still bad at stopping books that I'm not enjoying but at least I'm getting good about unhauling books that I know I won't read again. So thanks for doing the challenge and inspiring the rest of us to declutter books we don't need to keep.
This challenge is amazing! I love it, and I watch every video. 😂 You have inspired me to do my own Read it or Unhaul it challenge in 2024! I have 123 unread books on my shelf. Wishing us both luck in 2024!
I love this challenge! I think I find it so fascinating because I've never had this problem - I only buy the books I love AFTER reading them, so I find these videos very interesting and fun to watch🙂I think I'd be overwhelmed by all the books, and simply throw out about 100 or so I don't even remember anything about. If they come my way again, fine, if they don't...💁♀
You're making progress on your unread books! Some of my favorite videos were the ones where you would go through a bunch of books at once, so if you wanted to focus on getting through many books, you could focus on one shelf or one section like the YA fantasy you're not sure if you'll like
I am definitely reading what is on my bookshelves and for the most part only buying used books from library book sales. Some have great finds while others not so much. But I keep a bag of read used books in my car with me so when I hear of any library system needing books for their annual sale, I drive them right over there to get rid of them. I am sometimes so surprised at how much I really enjoy them. Keep up the good work, Emily! You're making progress.
I think even though you didn’t enjoy a lot of the books, the challenge was still successful because you were able to clear bad books off your shelf that might have otherwise been taking up space for a long time. So that’s a win IMO!
From my perspective, the challenge went well. It may not have accomplished what you had intended, but I feel that you have been able to hone your tastes, get know your tastes better, and been more willing to DNF.
Yes, I'm intending to do this. Insert jar, lots of different colored papers and a sore hand later - and the deed is done. Thanks for the great suggestion! Happy New Year to you and the kitties
That lipstick is gorgeous! You always look great. :) I am doing the same, but I am also on a no-buy / very low buy as I work my way through my physical TBR. I think I bought 5 books this year (at various milestones on the read/ unhaul journey). My TBR is down to 33 books I bought and 15 that were gifted from a high of about 175. I am so excited to get down to 20, which is my goal to stay under. I love that you are working on your TBR too, it motivates me! I end up reading most of mine, not unhauling, but I think when I get onto the gifted list there will be more unhauls.
The numbers are neat, and very satisfying when they are round. I purchased 120 books this year, so it's definitely something that can happen, unintentionally. And yes, the read it or unhaul it series is my favorite as well.
It's inspiring to see you do this challenge. I barely read my physical TBR because I have a million books on hold at the library so I end up always having to read them as they come in and then I never have a chance to read the ones at home. What a problem xD /s
I need to update my jar on my bookshelves. I haven't updated my books in roughly 2 years and I know I haven't kept up. Might try and do that before the end of January.
I actually do plan on doing something similar in 2024! I have 100 unread physical books and while I don't want to get down to 0*, I do prioritise ebooks so I want to show my physical books some love. I did get a lot better at only buying books I know I'll enjoy this year (the only exception are used and majorly discounted books, but even these I obviously bought thinking I'll like them and I have my fingers crossed), and I already have a challenge for buying books (I'm only allowed to for reading x unread ones). * Realistically I know I can't get down to 0 because at least 20 of those are more analytical - History of Middle-earth and such and the most of those I can read in a year is 2-3.
I love this challenge! You have inspired me to count my library and set a goal to read some of my "veteran" books. My book count was shocking, I mean I knew I had a lot of books. Just didn't know the exact number. My library is electronic, so, out of sight, out of mind. I look forward to your future videos!
Hopefully next year you get more hits since you got rid of so many misses! My personal challenge is if it’s been on my shelf for over a year and I don’t read it by the end of 2024, it’s out! Goodbye, adios, see ya!
You really inspired me in June-July to do this challenge but I did it two or three times and I gave up because it put me in a reading slump 😅 So I applaud you because it is a very difficult challenge (but very entertaining)
I have to say that i do like the challenge. I wouldn't do it, just because i don't have as much books a you do or space right now. And i only started to unhaul recently. Maybe with time. But i agree alot with you, that a library should reflect your taste. Might be tough at times, but in the end, your shelves will have only what you love =)
I’ve been buying books for the last 2-3 years but reading only KU and the occasional library book. I actually tried focusing on my physical TBR the last 2 months and have read like 15 (of the 150ish I’ve bought 😅😅) so you did better than me 😂😂😂
I am going to try to do something similar with the books that I own. I have made a TBR list for 2024 from the books that I own and so I have to read from that list. I am thinking that writing them on a slip of paper and picking would be fun, so I may do that.
I love this challenge and I decided to do this challenge in 2024- mainly cause I have a hard time reading my shelves so I’m hoping this will help! Good luck! I’m sure you can get it lower!
same for me! or I only read new books and abandon the old ones. definetly want to stop doing that in 2024. and I hope to buy less, so this will be even more fun. i mean I have enough books at home ((((technically))))
My suspiciously almost exact number is I read 53,999 pages this year. Also I read all 18 of the book club books and a total of 32 from this channel, so that's a strange coincidence too (the 18 book club books are part of the 32 total )
I tried the challenge this year and only managed to unhaul one. lol Definitely going to try it again next year. Over 50 books is quite a lot for a year imo
I definitely want to try this, but I'm also planning a move in a few months and it feels pointless to try to coordinate it around packing all my books. I've also been tempted to try wrapping up some books to randomly pick up because I could do that on a smaller scale in the next couple months, but based on my past experiences, moving will get me to unhaul stuff naturally lol
I've loved watching that challenge so much, though now I wonder if you ever soft DNFed some, because that's totally fine too (though I'm guessing that's not the point of the challenge 😅). I can't image having to read, say, Shakespeare when I have two brain cells and really just need something lighter and easier to digest. That would be unfair to Shakespeare's works when I actually loved Macbeth. 💀 Anyways, 50 books is great, honestly! I don't know where those 110 books came from, I know you said you find them for cheap but man, that's daunting to me. 🥴 But I understand the attraction of books, I'd just feel a bit overwhelmed by all those options. :P
I think that it's not bad that you have more going into 2024 than you did 2023 because the new ones should be more your taste than the really old ones that you're clearing out.
Note to self: don’t try and film when you’re that tired 😅
This challenge has been so interesting, I can’t wait to try it again!
PS I had some issues with the sound halfway through the video, it should’ve be a problem in the next ones!
This has to be my favorite book challenge on all of UA-cam, it’s just so entertaining
After years of having 100-200 books on my TBR I end 2023 with only 9 books. Soo chill right now haha 😁🥳
Woooow how did you do that?!
@@BookswithEmilyFoxI was really focused on reading only my tbr. I dnfed a bunch and also unhauled some. After owning some of them for a few years, some books weren't interesting to me anymore. Now I will try to keep it around 10 😁
amazing!
Same for me, just stopped byuing new books, and when I learned where is gigantic TBB (to be bought) pile of books which is kinda worse than a tbr
That is goals right there!!! :)
I love the read it or unhaul challenge. It honestly encourages to me to stop reading a book if I'm not enjoying myself and not feel guilty about it. I hope you continue it in 2024.

I'll probably have to go through this a lot more before my shelves are better but it's okay... more years of doing videos XD
This is by far my favorite challenge (sorry!! 😅) and I am planning on doing it myself in 2024. You’ve really inspired me!
Haha it’s okay! It’s been hard but I think 2024 will be even better!!
So glad you're doing it again in 2024 this series is my most absolute favorite content on all of UA-cam

Yay 🎉
How long did it take to write all the books down and cut them out? I feel like it would take me all day!
411 unread books.? Holy shit😂
