I miss your passion for books! I think all of these challenges are bogging you down, putting you in slumps, and overwhelming you with expectations. I think you should try, even just for one month, throwing all tbr challenges out the window and JUST read books you are most excited about. If the idea of these challenges is to read through what you own anyway then you can still do that by picking things YOU WANT to read!! I think when you go through and organize your shelves you should shop your shelves too! Pick out all the books that got you excited as you were shelfing or reorganizing, set them aside and then pick your next read from the stack. Like mood reading, I guess!! Idk, just thought it might be good for your spirits.

I think our reading brain needs a break every now and again. We need books that help our brains recharge. Especially in late December & January, we need the kind of reading that doesn’t tax our brain cells. My go to in those times is romance and crime fiction.
    Best books in January
How To Build A Boat by Elaine Feeney
    Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
    North Woods by Daniel Mason

As a fellow parent of a cat with two brain cells at most, I can say that it does get better overtime. My cat was eating a bunch of random objects in the first year of her life, but then she got a bit older and started slowly losing interest in chewing. Now she's fully desensitized to electric cords, scrunchies and human hair, and she only occasionally tries to eat plastic wrappers. There's hope, so try not to stress too much, it probably will get better eventually, even if it is so frustrating now❤

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  Рік тому +2

I’m lucky that they don’t seem interested in electric cords but Charlie has definitely bitten my hair bun a few times… I’d be scared to sleep with him in my bed. I’d wake up with a haircut 😭

One of my cats is a divining rod for plastic. I swear I am so thorough with every piece of plastic that crosses my apartment threshold, but Bobby will find more plastic somewhere. He must be stealing pieces and stashing them for later, its the only explanation I can come up with.

Regarding the cat thing, it sounds like pica, which my cat has. Are there certain textures he goes after? There are durable chew toys that come in all kinds of textures you can try getting him. And there are deterrent sprays you can use on things you don’t want him to chew that basically makes them taste too bitter to him. Wishing you and the kitties the best!

Quakery sounds great! And I'm picky with sci-fi as well (I prefer dystopian-leaning ones and no aliens), so yeah, emotionally detached characters usually turn me off as well (I felt that way about The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa last year - which really was magical realism). I still love that challenge, though yeah being in a slump and doing it might not be the best idea 😅 But I'm looking forward to your "one week one shelf" challenge, you'll definitely get more options! 👏

From a owner of a cat who will eat literally anything (plus point hes also allergic to a lot of stuff 👍) you are doing great!
I definetley had the same thoughts as you. Somehow hes still alive and kicking 13/14 years old! Not sure how old exactly he is I got him estimated at 2-3.
Here are my top favorite things he tried to eat or ate:
about 200gr of raw almonds on christmas eve. what a lovely call that was to the emergency vet! luckily he puked them out because the sheer amount at once made his stomache say no thanks! and yes I did weigh his puke to be sure he got rid of it all cant recommend
a plant he was allergic to (we didnt know jet at that time) we where wondering why he didnt improve at his sickness over a few days. yes he gnawed at the plant, puked and repeated FOR THREE DAYS.
Two plastic straws he almost chocked on because he tried to get them down somehow at once. luckily his brother alarmed me and I got the job of pulling them out of his throat.
A party sized tiramisu. that one he just tried to shove his face into. it was a month after we adopted them needless to say we werent jet ready for the job of keeping this cat safe from himself 😂 he didnt enjoy getting put under the water immediatley after so he didnt get any chance to eat any of the chocolate by god he would have if we let him

I love your videos! They really motivate me to read. I've recently started the picture of Dorian grey and I'm wondering if you have read that and what you thought of it? Hope you're doing okay

I am sad you are in a reading slump! Were you in one this time last year? I feel like I recall you had a lot of started books! Could be something to do with the Canadian winters! (I am also Canadian and they can be rough haha)

Your cat has Pica. Two of my four cats have that disorder, one of them is 17yo. He’ll be fine. There is nothing we can do about it.

I’m listening to quackery as an audio book and I’m also on the fence about it. Subject is interesting but ….. idk. Might be that I don’t like the narrator or it might be that I’m a nurse so it also kinda feels close to my work 😂

Désolée d'écrire ça en français mais my brain refuses to english today 😂

Hey Emily, I wonder if Charlie’s chewing/eating random things may be anxiety related? You could ask your vet if anti-anxiety meds could help 😊

I’ll have to ask but he’s by far the most chill of the three. If chunky was doing it I’d believe it’s anxiety but not Charlie!
