- The introduction of the 2018 Buick Pontiac Firebird and the Trans Am is a must for GM. It will revitalize Buick product line-up and bring back two legendary models.

Buick already has a performance model. It`s called the Grand National. If they brought THAT back, it would sell like crazy.
They killed that off in 1987. There were Firebirs and Trans Am’s being built then
@@larrywelchko6136
Yes Larry, after they cancelled the Grand National it seems they locked Buick in the slot of a poor man's Cadillac - leaving Pontiac as the performance division... The demise of which never made sense to me either, as it was almost on par with Buick and a step up from Chevy - IMO they should've ditched Buick and kept Pontiac.
Or the Skylark/Regal
@@openeyes-411 Exactly mate
Wow...
I've just dropped in on the special needs thread.
You can NEVER put the Pontiac up there with Buick🤣
If Buick is going to do something it has to be a Grand National
Cuz that's a Buick,
Or the Buick Riviera
They could do the Grand National, Riviera and Firebird.
If Buick was to bring back the grand national. It has to be a coupe it has to be rear wheel drive.
Ok has to have a turbo charged V6.
It has to be available only in black.
And then some one has to let Darth Varder know that his car is ready.😆
Wildcat
Exactly
Killing Pontiac has to be one of the dumbest moves in carmaking history ...... next to Toyota killing the Supra .
They sould have got rid of something else
They should have kept Pontiac & scuttled Buick...
Great idea, but keyword is.... Doing it RIGHT!! Chrysler also dropped the Plymouth brand, and now they've been wanting to bring back the Cuda. What would they call it, it was a Plymouth. I've seen some prototypes, not really impressed with the lack of effort, didn't put as much as the original lines like they did with the Challenger.
Toyota Supra is BACK coming this spring
armando cardenas when did Toyota kill the supra? It’s still there
No. No Buick Firebird/Trans Am. If Buick wants a performance car then they can revive the Grand National/GNX.
But only if they brought back the 3.8 (and not some chevy v6 stroked out)
Bring back the Indy Buick V-6 Turbo the same design as in the Indycar and put it in the new one , if they brought it back ......
the only people that thought the Grand national was a great car were the people that owned them, Every body else thought it was a shoe box with a turbo!
Patricia Peterson The Buick 3800 V6 Series motor is badass, with the right upgrades and updates, it could run with the modern foreign sports cars. A series 4 Buick 3800 V6 would be legendary.
I liked the early 2000's GTO, however it wasn't a proper GTO and because of that, I would have liked it better if they called it something else...possibly the new RWD Grand Prix or something. It would have been interesting to have a RWD turbo 3800 in that body style as a Buick Grand National.
if Buick came out with a sports car it should be a true rear-wheel-drive Regal / Grand National
I hope they listen, chargers need competition, although gran nationals were two door they were more spacious than camaros and mustangs.
Agreed, a Buick badged Trans-Am is only something old GM would pull, new GM isn't that kind of stupid.
1970 buick gsx...
Bryan Averette 1969 GS black on black was sooo sexxyyy
I agree... the Buick Avista concept was gorgeous, would have likely ridden on the alpha chassis like the Camaro, and could have been sold as the Grand National. GM even already has the twin turbo V6 for it in the ATS-V...so it would make a perfect ~$45k Buick performance car.
Sorry guys, but Pontiac, Oldsmobile as well as Mercury, Plymouth, Saturn, Studebaker, De Soto and more are NEVER coming back. And pretending for a second they could, they'd be SUV's , Crossovers and little generic 4 door sedans. Chevy and Buick which do still exist, aren't much more than that now themselves!
Because markets never change, right?
My dad had a '75 olds ninty 8 , I had a '94 Saturn SC2, 88 Ford tbird turbo coupe, yep Bob I got cars that doesn't exist anymore 😭 😏 . Oh n a Lincoln mark Viii I still own .
Mercury is still selling cars by ford Motors
I agree. And its sad. Really it is. I was just ranting about chevrolet, but a lot of those other car manufactures brought a lot to the table. The same thing happend in the heavy truck divisions. And it was all about money. They were bought up by bigger companys to use their designs and just liqudated to company. And they either did it slowly over time or over night. Chevrolet wanted to put most of their eggs in one basket, so they eliminated pontiac and oldsmobile, im sure ford did the samething with mercury. Its a shame they didnt stay unique to each other. It was obvious that that was coming by 1980 when they were all using Chevrolet engines.
That’s really sad
That makes my eyes bleed to read *Buick Firebird & Trans Am*
I had a 1979 silver anniversary trans am in high school and it was the most awesome car in my city.
When I sold that car it felt like a relative had died.
That how I still feel about losing my 1986 300ZX with t-tops. Best car ever other than the earlier 240s, 269s, and 280s.
Lol right
It's the biggest turn off I have ever seen in my life.
Seem's we are way over due for a Buick Riviera...That would be the luxury Buick cruiser without a doubt, and historical too..
LARRY Now THAT would be the way to go! I’d be totally on board with that as I LOVE the Riviera
The last Rivera they did, the G platform, bombed badly. With less then 2000 cars made the last year of production.
@@lokisgodhi That's because it was an awful car that in no way was what a riviera was supposed to be about. It was slightly luxurious 4 door car with 2 doors chopped off. Car makers have to start doing "love it or hate it" designs again to wash out the sea of "beige" that dominates the market now.
Olds 442 .bring that mother back
You are correct my friend.
Why not...if they want to sell Firebirds at Buick, might as well sell the 442, as well. The 442 was my all time favorite muscle car!
@@MayheM_72
The Buick version was the Grand Sport - and yes, it had the 455 cu in, and stood well against the 442 & the GTO too especially in full convertible form, iirc...
Pontiac would survive again if they brought back trans am and firebird and let us never forget the GTO.
Matt Law they can use Pontiac for it's sports division and keep all 3 they can kill Ford with that alone
Matt...they tried the GTO rebirth about 15 years ago. DOA
That would not kill ford and here is why. The mustang still kills the Camaro in sales. Now if you added say and trans am and gto to the GM lineup then that would create inter company rivalries and hurt the sales of the camaro. How do we know this. Because it happened in the early 2000s. the Firebird, Camaro and GTO all competed for sales. And what happened. GM cancelled all three cars.
A 400 or 455 in a car in 2018? you are crazy. no one would buy that.
Skcit420 You answered your own question. " Real Pontiac fans would." Yup and when all 1000 of these fans buy them GM would be stuck with a bunch of cars that no one else wants to buy.
Great video! I am a huge T/A guy my first car was an 87 T/A and have been in love since. Ive also owned camaros but have always admired T/A's a little more... Bring the bird back!
My Prayers have been answered!!! Great to see those Fast and Quick Cars Again!!!
Bring pontiac back loved there cars.
I agree. Buick Firebird? NFW. If you don't call it a Pontiac then don't do it. How about bringing it back as a Pontiac but selling it at a Buick or GMC dealer? If not then let it die with dignity and let it rest in peace.
Agreed, Frank. The Firebird will forever be associated with Pontiac. Since Pontiac is gone, OK, sell Firebirds at Buick dealerships. But KEEP the Pontiac NAME and BADGE (the red arrowhead) on them.
Or ‘Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am by Buick (By Buick is in small lettering). Pontiac could also be revived as a performance division like SVT for Ford or SRT for Mopar, PRD Pontiac racing division, complete with the Pontiac logo.
Scott, I would hate to see Buick's name on ANY part of a Trans Am. Back during the GM bankruptcy crisis in '09, GM elected to kill Pontiac instead of Buick. Pontiac had been heavily outselling Buick here in the US, but GM kept Buick because Buick sold in China. I could live with Chevy's name on a Trans Am, because Chevy had always been outselling Pontiac, so I have no resentment towards Chevy. But, I DO resent Buick, as again, Pontiac had heavily outsold Buick here in the US, yet Buick was allowed to remain. So, I wouldn't mind at all seeing a Pontiac Trans Am with "by Chevrolet" in small lettering. But, I would like the red Pontiac arrowhead to be on the vehicle.
Re badging is a dume idea any way that is why Pontiac were dropped in the first place. A Camaro with Firebird name plate is a dead horse!
That’s just as bad as Dodge bringing back the BARRACUDA . (Which has been rumored for years.) The Barracuda was a PLYMOUTH... if they’re going to bring it back, that’s what it should be called: a PLYMOUTH Barracuda, not a Dodge. If Plymouth can’t come back, then don’t bring back the Barracuda !!
Bring it on - two great cars and with all the modern specs.. fantastic !
Those renderings are gorgeous.
bring pontiac back
Sean Surgeont... I would like 2 c em bring Pontiac back like what Toyota is doing with Scion. only sports car that a average person can afford under Chevy is tha Camaro which I'm tired of seeing.
Sean Surgeont yeah, bring Pontiac back
It would be weird to see a Firebird/Trans Am listed as a Buick, but I like the sound of it coming back. - Steve, 2005 Pontiac GTO owner.
Cars Simplified I've always wanted a GTO! Those cars are monsters aren't they?
Cars Simplified I love my g8. So I would gladly purchase a firebird or T/A
Cars Simplified The amoeba-brains at GM should give this car to Chevrolet, not Buick, for cryin' out loud!
My 05 GTO will lay rubber at 70. It's a little scary.
Sure it will.
While I never owned one, I love the late '70s and early '80s Trans Am and Formula Firebirds and look forward to seeing them wherever I can. The pictures of the newer ones in your video show me that the idea is ripe for implementation.
Great video sir! . I have always loved Camaro, z28,Firebird and Trans AM as well as Mustang. I believe you would see a lot of happy folks ready to buy a new Trans AM or Firebird. C’mon GM!!!!
Buick Grand National
Buick GS
Buick Riviera
Buick Skylark
Buick Wildcat
I could see a Buick Wildcat release something that would get the people going. Maybe release some sort of Dodge Challenger Hellcat killer using Corvette Z06 bits. Now That's a good idea.
The Riv was a big tub.
Centurion. (not Century) Make that a land yacht sleeper with z06.
1966 Buick Wildcat convertible! Now you're talkin' !!!
1972 Grand Prix 455 or a 69 Cougar 351 sink you into the seat as you take off!!....lol Stock
Buick needs to follow Dodge's lead & bring back the GNX.
With 450+ hp.
Yep stage 3
Rwd with a stick shift and I'm in
Does Buick even have a rear wheel drive Chassis to put an real engine into!
@@mylanmiller9656 they can make one. It's not hard, they've been making cars forever.
My favorite sport car from GM from the 70s beautiful styling was the 79 silver aniversary edition trans am.and lots of torque .
*Buick Skylark and GS-X
_Pontiac_ Firebird and Trans Am.
Thank you!
I agree with Nate, a new Grand National would be phat!
I second that Eric, It's a Grand idea. The prototype shown in a golden bronze shade, very stylish luxurious sport coupe. I see real appeal to the Baby Boomers such as myself. Give it a few more bells and whistles as far as refinements on the luxury side keeping pace with models Lincoln is making a strong statement with, and just blowing minds in a crazy stupid way on the performance side finishing up with the most beautiful sport coupe in decades. If this platform comes to fruition at a price that fits comfortably in a retirees budget they won't be able to keep up with the demand at first thus making GM and most importantly it's ever growing fan base very happy. WOW!!!!! Buick Grand National with not a Phoenix on the Ram air hood but of our national iconic American Eagle, a gesture of American strength and ability.
+Gerald Stevens I like that eagle on the hood, that would be tight! Buick has a nice suv, now they need a sports car!
BUICK GRAND NATIONAL..WAS MY FAV.CAR
Grand National V8 twin turbos
Yeah honestly GM should have killed Buick and kept Pontiac
Noel K Buick had better sales than Pontiac as what I've read
Buick is favored in China with thousands of Buicks sold there I've read !!!
Steven Hicks at the time that gym axed Pontiac it outsold Buick in North America, it was Buick’s popularity in China that saved the Buick brand and sealed Pontiacs fate. I don’t think Pontiac did well in China and the Chinese love Buick’s.
@@IG10705 The real reason Buick was kept and Pontiac was scraped was because
Pontiac had no Recognition in the Asian market! Buick has been sold well to the Chinese old fogies. Buick was never popular with the North American Market.
@@IG10705 you read that too. Saw that a few times; recently on a Trans Am/ Camaro remake vid.
Loved Rockford's Firebird Esprit in Denver Gold. As a 4 year I loved that car.
I miss Pontiac 😢
Trans Am Worldwide has a licence agreement to use the Trans Am name and build/sell the cars. They have had this since they built the 2016 bandit model mentioned in this video.
My first car was a 1969 triple green Firebird, 400cid. auto on the floor. I miss that car and I am having a hard time finding a replacement. Loved that car.
in 1976, as a 20 year old college student, I bought a 1967 Firebird and did so again in 1995. Would do same a third time with Buick nameplate 10/10
Buick Pontiac Firebird has the same ring as Bruce Caitlin Jenner to me....
Michael Medley Amen to that lol
Can we get a dr. Evil laugh woo hahaha
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Buick shoud build the Avista and call it a Riviera. GM would do well to bring back the Pontiac name as a niche brand as they intended at the time of its demise. I believe that a Firebird/Trans Am would sell. Also a Solstice and G8 in the line up would be a good idea, as these were the 2 vehicles that had Pontiac headed in the right direction, at the time they discontinued the marque. The Pontiac brand would be a boost for GM as its "excitement" division, as it once was!
I agree 100% on both counts. Pontiac loyalists would flock to the showroom in droves. And Buick with a new Riviera, that's a no brainer!
krista phillips They should make a redesigned pontiac aztek too.
Or a redesigned Chevy Vega.
Exactly mate, not only it would become GM's Mopar(like the GTO compete with the Charger and the Trans-AM compete with the Challenger) but also America's BMW (like the G6 compete with the M3/M4 and the G8 compete with the M5/M6) and all have LS based V8 ranging the same displacements of the original Pontiac V8s.
I had a 89 firebird formula and it was a blue color so nice, I do miss it
Interesting idea. Loved your proposed Firebird on Camaro photos/drawings!!
I don't know why they cancelled Pontiac. Pontiac was the ish. Bring back Pontiac.
Lennox Alexander Francis Jr They Should Have Killed Buick NOT I repeat NOT Pontiac
Lennox Alexander Francis Jr ......Every decision is based on money. Now you know.
That's because the market segment was a better fit for Buick, fellas. Buick was spotted slightly above Pontiac, and could readily absorb the vacancy of Olds and Poncho customers.
+Kelly Dok e ,
GM needs to just bring back Pontiac. Then keep it what the company is suppose to be, a performance company. Don't make Pontiac crossovers, minivans and SUV's only cars. I think to bring back Pontiac the right way you start with 4 cars. A new updated model of the best selling Grand Prix, a retro body of I would say either the 1966 GTO (my favorite gto) or the Judge, the Trans Am and finally a brand new G8. If Pontiac takes off again then talk about bringing back the Firebird and a smaller car. It's time to bring this company back.
It wouldn't be right with out Pontiac behind it if that's the case tell Buck to bring back the Grand National 👍💯
They need to make a Camaro version and call it Grand National - Super easy, barely an inconvenience!
Bring it back already!!!
Pontiac, not Buick.
Arak Seepoom thank you its a big Pontiac badge right on the nose
Maybe GM should have dropped the Buick nameplate.
I guess GM thinks the public is stupid; which I suppose it is for many purposes.
Actually, GM built a Buick factory in China and Buick is a big seller in China. Buick is the car for the young up-and-coming in China. It's a status symbol.
GM is the stupid one here. Look at all the branding mistakes they made in the past that made their cars unrecognizable. They killed the 6 tail lights on the Impala, They replaced the Olds Rocket Action rocket symbol with a squiggle that made people think the car was a Korean model and not Oldsmobile. They killed the Pontiac Firebird which was one of the most recognized models ever.
Ford, Nissan, Honda, and Chrysler never forgot that having a muscle car in the line up showed engineering strength, gave recognition and brand pride of ownership. Of course none of it matters if the public can not afford it or the reliability stinks or if self driving cars make an individual driving a car illegal.
I want a new firebird
Great ideas! I would buy one of each!
Buick usually leaves its best ideas on the concept table and builds endless SUV's and FWD sedans.
I'd rather see it badged as a GS. In its day it was the baddest GM mid size muscle car. It's 455 was lighter than a small block Chevy, and when Hot Rod did a build of all the Big Blocks of the late 60's the Buick outperformed them all. The only engine that came close was the Mopar 440 in overall horsepower. They revisited the 454 they had built later and with an upgraded intake and cam it out performed the Buick, but it took unequal parts for the BBC to pull ahead of the Buick.
I've owned the last muscle car, a '74 Trans Am. Unless it's a Pontiac, its not a Trans Am. GM sold out to the government.
I don’t understand general motors today 😒😒😒 but you are absolutely correct that Firebird, Trans Am or or Buick Regal, Grand national would be very big sellers
A 2018 Firebird 'Formula 350' Hardtop....Sounds Great to me.
I loved mine, that off center hood cowl was awesome. Then you had the SLP 'Firehawk' you could order from your dealer....anyone remember those?
That SLP 'Firehawk' had the most beautiful (functioning) hood IMO.
I (immediately) sold my '88 Formula 350 when Chevy/Pontiac announced that the '02 would be THE last F-Body and I bought an '02 WS6 Trans Am, Fully Loaded. (White/Graphite)
What a car and that lovely exhaust note. I still remember it till this day.
I had to sell it though after a MAJOR Back Surgery and I got $22,500.00 CASH for it. Some Husband and Wife on their way home from a "winning" weekend in Las Vegas. (I'm in Los Angeles) They came to my Hospital Bed with a shoebox of Brand New, Banded $100's & $50's....they purchased it for their 16 year old son's birthday. It only had 986 miles on the Odometer. Never driven in the rain, NOT even through a puddle. I miss that car SOOOO much!! :(
if buick is going to make a rear wheel drive muscle car than the. GSX or Grand-National is the way to go.
I would like to see another riviera
Don't forget the Roadmaster
This will never happen
Skyhawk1987Turbo Agreed! its just too expensive and not enough buyers out there. it would mainly be Camaro buyers trading in theyre Camaro for the new trans-am/firebird. GM wont drop the money on it, just too costly in my opinion
Skyhawk1987Turbo. Are you sure about that? I wouldn't count it were I you.
Skyhawk1987Turbo
Never say never.
i hope it doesnt. i love the firebird i really do but leave a good thing dead.
And shouldn't happen!
I had a 1976 golden anniversary Trans Am with t-tops(643 made) sure wish I still had it
Great video ... well done!
I also think a new version of the hummer could be built under the GMC brand
And maybe the Oldsmobile Cutlass under Cadillac
You think gm would have learned their lesson with the gto on re-badging something within its company like that. NO NO NO. Firbird is pontiac not buick. Don't do it. Stick with what buick has already done and make it new.
theblackflag2020 yea a new gnx
Legally, Buick bringing back the Trans Am might be the only legal way we get one. Part of the Bush/ Obama GM bailout deal was Pontiac had to be disbanded and never brought back by them or any future Congress. Nothing was mentioned about other active GM Divisions taking products of another division. Take a constitutional amendment to countermand that order. If the deal didn't exist, there'd be no Camaro or GM for that matter.
@@chrismc410 why would the deal state they can NEVER bring back pontiac though? What was a reason for that? And im sure there are ways around that... We are under control of a whole different administration that most definately could get that repealed if they really wanted to.
As 2020 kicks off, I still await such a revival..
Unless they completely revive pontiac. Its a no go from me. Buick can have its grand national. Firebirds are pontiacs territory.
I think GM thinks that people look at the Camaro and Trans-Am as the same car , like they do . Well I can tell you I don't . I will drive a mustang over a Camaro , that's just a fact . I've always been team Trans-Am in the old debate .
GM really needs to think about a speacialty GM Brand . Bring back some of the icons with just a GM Badge . A GM 442 , GM Trans-Am ( keep it just trans am , not knocking firebird but if your gonna make a special program then you keep the top models ) , GM GSX ( the Buick monster ) and instead of the GTO bring on the GM JUDGE . Obviously to do it these would be high end cars since each are not a standard factory build but more Program Factory builds to customer specifications. Even the Chevelle SS could be brought back this way and who knows maybe one or more of these will become a standard stock floor model . GM just needs to decide what matters more ... Mass production with quick turnaround or a specialty Program that will cater to true GM loyalists .
peter sisco you right cause I would drive a charger over a Camaro that’s a fact
Yes.... What happened to the T Type Regal/Grand National? Buick, you guys should really get on that.
Dana T.
One of my chief partners in crime growing up got a 1978 gold T/A as a gift from his mom and dad. It's still in his garage today.
I love to see this come back
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that a badged Pontiac TransAm version of the Camaro could return. After all "Pontiac Builds Excitement" and GM needs to put up a more robust front against the Japanese swarm.
America builds the greatest cars in the world, and here in England I am mystified that so many US car drivers elect to drive about in Japanese and Korean models with their knees under their chins.
Its because they get good gas mileage and require next to no maintenance. American manufacturers give a lot of lip service to building a quality car but that is it. However, that said, the Japanese, and Korean makes made in the US are becoming victims of the the same bean counters too. Their quality is going down as the bean counters get more and more say and sacrifice quality for more short term profit.
hahahaha great response man,,love it.
Oldpigsass where have you been for the past 30 years ?? Japanese and Korean cars crammed to the knees on the steering wheel?? Really..!!!
love to see buick revise the GSX in a limited production
Cool Looking Sports Cars!!!!!
Excellent idea 💡 👏
My 67 Coronet R/T loved trans ams.
Great video and I Love the Trans Am, but what about the Buick Grand National?
BigFredddy68 GM actually renewed the trademark of GNX and grand national. So I would be on the look out. Because Gm also bought back the rights to the IROC-Z and I’ve heard talk of the iroc replacing the zl1 in the next few years
Excellent question!
I’m so disappointed they never fallowed through with this. If it had been released, it would have sold like crazy, especially with all the new high power models from Ford and Chevrolet respectively.
AWESOME VIDEO
Buick's image is "near luxury", not "sports". GM needs to build and name it properly as the Pontiac Firebird & Trans Am. They can then sell it under the Chevrolet brand or the Buick brand as they see fit. Just don't call it a Chevrolet or Buick.
Tanah Merah That's sort of what he's getting at. The car doesn't have to SAY Buick on it. (Just the paperwork)
Tanah Merah eewwww!!! saying Buick firebird almost hurts to say!
Tanah Merah DAMMAM...THANK YOU..NO FUKING.BUICK FIRE BIRD...
Tanah Merah. How about reselling it under Pontiac?
PONTIAC FIRE BIRD.
Seriously?? I am a huge Firebird and GTO fan. But lets be real here. You are in the land of SUV and truck sales being the bread and butter of most manufacturers. A gen 6 Camaro based Firebird would rock my world. Some limited production units by 3rd parties prove it can be done. But GM will never cannibalize Camaro sales as they would never do the same to Corvette like DeLorean wanted to do with the Banshee. It is about numbers folks. Buick is not a heavy hitter here in the states as much as it is elsewhere. Pontiac with only its Firebird and GTO going for before the end wasn't much better. What they did was right. Killing Oldsmobile and Pontiac made sense. Buick was their dark horse not like Olds and Pontiac. The Chinese market on Buick is still strong though with Trump mucking about with Tariffs may change that scene too. The Firebird is a niche car with little return on GM's investment. It isn't just rebadging a Camaro. So much more goes inside. I am not going to argue anyone's partisanship here. I have and always will be a Pontiac forever as they were the underdogs. They had brilliant people and high performing cars all made with one original V8 block while everyone else had their way. But today is different, and there is a small chance GM will make the Firebird come back. Now if I am wrong. Happily I go as we all get what we want.
YES!!!!! PLEASE bring them back!!!!
One of the best Buick performance models was the '67 GS 340, with the small-block for better balanced handling, the great profile of the '66-'67 A-body, and some pretty outrageous graphics.
Why would they make a Buick sports car and put Pontiac badging on it?? This makes no sense. It would make more sense for Chevy to sell a Trans Am or Firebird edition of the Camaro.
tyler2610 Agree! would also cost them less. Just put a redesigned front clip/body panels to make a Pontiac. they shared the same platform back in the days, would make sense to follow the same footprint
Yeah except it might offend both Camaro and Trans Am/Firebird fans. Although to fans of the latter that is about the only hope at this point as Pontiac has been defunct for over 5 years now.
tyler2610 No way a Trans Am edition of s Camaro. You may as well insult Mother Theresa. Just saying!
Well a Buick version of the the Camaro is even more ridiculous and FAR less feasible.
This is fake.
If it's not Buick powered, it's not a Buick.
If it's not Pontiac powered, it's not a Pontiac.
ramairgto72
What does it matter? They all share the same GM power plants!!!
ramairgto72 the same motor in my Buick was also put into chevrolets, pontiacs, and Oldsmobiles.
Does that mean that I don't drive a Buick?
Kasper The Ghost If you have a question, try reading it again.
Thanks 🙄
I fully understand and kind of agree, I loved the old Pontiac engines. And didn't really like it in 79 when they put some Olds and chevy motors in them,
One mans plan Some people have no concept / idea that GM was a collection of individual car companies.
It's also what made GM great. Had it not been for inner Division competition we would probably never had the PMD GTO, or possibly muscle cars..
I work for a Buick GMC Cadillac dealer, I'm a technician and my Global Connect home page for everything Buick,GMC,Cadillac there's a new car That Buick is going to reveal , not sure what it is but I'm hoping it will be a sports car! There making it look pretty cool under the car cover so we will see 👍
My buddy had the very first one that they turned a Camaro into a Trans Am and it was in Avon Indiana not far from Indianapolis he was the GM at the dealership and I've gotten to ride in it the exact same thing as a Camaro with a couple little tweaks different Grill different tail lights and a big Phoenix on the hood
Firebirds were always much prettier than Camaros.
A Buick Trans-Am? Naw!
Dazed and Confused 😳
LOVE my 2000 Pontaic Firebird w68
That’s an excellent idea!!!
OR.......a brand new KNIGHTRIDER
I'm pretty sure GM sold the rights to the Pontiac name to Trans Am Depot. That included the Trans Am nameplate.
knytrydr73 I believe they only got a license to the name, not full rights
knytrydr73 ummm... no. That's just stupid. They license the name.
Pontiac actually licensed the Trans Am name from the Trans Am racing series.
krista phillips - This is true. :)
That's an excellent idea!!
PLEASE KEEP the awesome red interior lights!
If Buick were going to do a car like that it would be the Grand National, not a Buick Firebird, that's just not right. They already have a twin turbo 3.0L for the CT6, so that would keep with the tradition.
This right here is the NO BRAINER! and BTW the Camaro isn't selling so well right now
That's what the Avista is for. The Buick edition of the CTS coupe.
Olds 442 over grand national anyday
442 over GN, LOL
Camaro is selling very well! I see several of them on the road every day! They're everywhere!!!
why does everybody keep saying "do a GNX" pff do a GSX. way cooler car
Useful Entertainment NO WAY! Most kids grew up with Grand Nationals that dad or grandpa drove and the GNX was the BADDEST...My dad had to settle for a V8 Monte SS since ALL nationals had been LONG GONE! NEVER to be seen again...Till...
mate sivric in the end of the day they're just black G bodies and what do you mean they're all gone. I see like a hundred every time I go to the GM nationals
Useful Entertainment ONLY 547 GNX had been MADE...? MY father(I feel the same) says " a vehicle is ONLY new ONCE" What you see is a bunch of bondo buckets, fakes and blown Motors replaced with aftermarket/Rebuild...Rarely clean examples around the Midwest so I'm sure if you live in the South or California YOU may see a FEW.
mate sivric too bad they never made any aerocoupes. that would've been pretty cool
+Useful Entertainment I agree. BTW 1 GNX is rumored to have been ordered with THE ONLY factory sunroof & was listed for 87k a few years back with factory window sticker for about $49,###...? Like the 9 mile Z28!
On a side note,'Smoky and the Bandit' is implausible now. Electronic logs and GPS tracking make outlaw trucking impossible nowadays.
Can,t wait for it !!!
When Pontiac and the Trans Am were around during their final years...They didn't sell well. Why should GM take the gamble and lose out? Though, they NEVER should have cancelled Pontiac in the first place. GMC should have been axed...Now, they compete with Chevy trucks. Do they REALLY need two truck divisions?! Stupid.
they didn't sell well b/c they looked like sh*t. I agree that GM doesn't need 2 trucks
Pontiac had the Burden of the Aztek , and other models were so close to Chevy, even the Firebirds, it was a no brainer. GMC is an RPO on a Chevy and has been for a while. GMC is the ONLY link to Pontiac really as GMC trucks once had Pontiac Engines in them.
Yeah, and the new Camaro is out of proportion and looks like s**t. Too wide for height, greenhouse too low for side proportion. looks like they grafted on a roof from another car onto a suv body.
GMC Trucks don't really compete with Chevy Trucks. Chevy is the everyman's truck division. GMC is the premium truck division. GMC Trucks are more expensive than Chevys. Also GMC has models in the Large Truck class that Chevy doesn't have .
It used to be in the 1950's when you got a Pontiac v8 motor, ps, pb, auto and 4wd in the GMC but only a 6 cyl. stick in the Napco Chevrolet. Now they just have different plastic on them.
Yes, Buick needs something to lower the average age of its buyers. Chinese and Korean made SUV's won't do it. I could see a luxurious version of the Camaro sold by Buick
Styled like the Buick Avista show car from 2016.
Why not use the Camaro platform to be the Riviera instead of Firebird. The Riviera GS would be based on the SS Camaro, and the GSX would be based on the ZL-1.
Geoffrey Davis well said. The Riviera would be much more suited for the Buick brand and would be an excellent personal luxury performance vehicle. In its finest interpretations the Riviera represented GM at its best.
lcar4000 GNX.
Grand National with the twin turbo V6 from the CTS. GM won't do that though.
I love both schetches
I like your thinking
They need to release it as the Buick GS, not Firebird. Mixing Pontiac with Buick is sacrilege.
IMHO
Mike Fifer You are right, but when they got rid of Pontiac, big mistake! Firebird,Solstice ,Transam! I miss them so!
I am so happy I kept my 89 Firebird formula.
Mike Fifer or wildcat;)
Fire bird
Glad I had Poncho's last hurrah. My Solstice GXP 5 speed was apparently the only one that never had a problem. Never should have gotten rid of it but I was sick of winter car/ summer car. My GXP had the turbo upgrade, too. Fun.
I agree they should bring it back. I just hope it is done right and looks somewhat like the late 70s cars and not some futuristic space ship. It needs to be a pure muscle car
*THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I LIKE AND HATE!!*
*I JUST LOVE! A FUTURISTIC SPACESHIP OF A CAR!!!!*
*AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE! THOSE OLD STUPID ''MUSCLE HEAPS" FROM THE 1960s & 70s!!!*
**MUSCLE HEAP** *IS A TERM I THAT I COINED*
*IT IS A COMBINATION OF "MUSCLE CAR" & "JUNK HEAP"* HAHAHA
I agree. They should've never gotten rid of Pontiac or Oldsmobile.
Matt Brattensborg it needs to look more like the 1984 Trans Am. Which to me was the best design for.....K.I.T.T. 😉
1969 was the best looking Firebird/Trans Am.
WHAT?!?! YOU'RE INSANE!!!!
I would have to pull for a Buick GS 455 Stage 1 (circa 70-72 A- Body) with as retro looks like the Challenger. Stump pulling Torque as the 70 model was known for and send all the other marques running for cover with a large Turbo and Intercooler to make the car insanely quick. So Buick there is you big selling idea. What are you guys waiting for!!
The early Buick Skylark and GS were beautiful cars. 1964 is my favorite.
"Rockford" edition would Flop. Most people today only know that name as "Rockford Fosgate" Audio equipment
Not many young people ever watched the Rockford files, and anyways the Firebird esprit was fugly lol
I read somewhere that the Rockford Firebird's were actually Formula's. The appearance was purposely changed, by the studio, to show as the lessor Esprit (to better fit the Rockford character).
Next time you watch an old episode of 'The Rockford Files' look close @ the headlights of the '77 Firebird when he's doing some s'stunt' driving. They either used old single headlight model cars (pre '77) or old footage. HaHa
That is so true. Also some of the Rockford stunt Firebirds had a square back window and not the wrap around back window.
here's a better idea--Cadillac Corvair, lol
Careful, they might bring back the cimmeron.
I like this... 🤔 my father has an old trans am with the original bird on the Hood the car dark brown I love it!
that's a nice looking firebird
