Man that takes me back. I graduated H.S. in '96 and can clearly remember when this car released. I had a Fox Body at the time. The commercial for the car featured an all black Ram Air TA pulling up at a red light behind a Fox Body. When the light turned green the T.A. sucked the Fox Body up through the Ram air snout and spit it out of its tail pipe! Talk about hurting feelings. Despite me having a Fox Body back then I still loved the Trans Am. Even today I absolutely love the TA Ram Air Fire Hawk. Fun fact... A '98 Fire Hawk was the first car I ever drove that would rip tire on the expressway when punching the throttle at 60mph. I was young, dump and a stuck up Honda fan boy. Getting tire in that old Pontiac made me realize that only liking one platform was extremely stupid. I had always been a fan of speed, but that Pontiac taught me about torque. No longer was I a Honda fanboy. I was an "everything" fanboy and the possibilities were limitless. The next day I sold my little CRX and bought an '89 Fox Body. I wanted a TA but could not afford one. It's funny cause a few weeks after that is when I saw that commercial. What a nice video! The late '90s WS6 and Fire Hawk are 2 of my all time favorite cars. They take me back to a time when I first began to open up to other platforms and the beginning of me becoming a true car enthusiast. Thank you for that!

Class of 99, yeah back then in high school you were dubbed either Ford, Chevy or rice eater in the car world. I was a born and bread Chevy guy back then and ripped on all the Honda heads. ended up with a red 94 v6 Camaro as a first car which I was smitten with because it sipped gas and insurance. Owned it 4 years then tired of having a winter car too. Finally test drove an8th gen SI in 2010 and realized that Honda had been building baby Ferrari's with Japanese precision the whole time, bought it from Carmax on the spot, and still daily it between my other rides today

I bought my Trans Am Firehawk in 2004 under similar circumstances, it was my gift to myself for landing my first professional job after graduating college. Prior to that I had an 88 trans am gta, naturally the gen 4 was the logical upgrade. I still own the firehawk, in fact I spent the past few years restoring mine after sitting in storage for about a decade. I love the car. As it was described back in the day it's a 4 seat corvette and that sentiment still appeals to me. Great review. Just subbed.

I had a '96 Firebird Firehawk. It was awesome. Mine was hard top with a torsen limited slip, SLP exhaust (I believe only one year due to being loud), Hurst short throw, and oil coolers from the factory. I put a x2 52 mm throttle body on it (came with a x2 48 to make less HP than the vette) and GM had a TSB so I could get an AL drive shaft for free. I ended up putting an underwrite pully on it to keep power steering fluid cooler.
It was a beast. I was passing NSXs of the time at Mid Ohio with some race tires on the thing. It was glorious.
Sometimes I wish I never sold it but I wasn't getting much use out of it anymore so off to a good home it went.

He looked like a guy stuck in the early 2000s in rural West Virginia. Wasn't a fan of electric cars btw, I've owned V8s my whole life but that thing moves. I pulled at least 5 cars on him before letting off. It was definitely a heads/cam setup WS6 from a 30 roll. I kept waving forward to hit and he just shook his head like "wtf is this?" Finally, he took off and pulled a fender on me before I reeled him in like a freight train. I've been street racing since around 95 and I've never pulled a car that hard, especially something fast

I wanted a Carl Black edition Blackhawk soooo bad back in the day but was too young and broke.
I’d love to have an 02 WS6 in Daytona orange with black leather. That was my dream combo!

Pontiac was the BEST, everything they made was quick in acceleration, Gto, formula firebird, TA ram-air, G8, Grandprix with the turbo, Bonneville SSEI with the supercharger, fiero gt, sunfire gt 5spd trans, sunbird, grand-am ram air gt, i was a true Pontiac man and my mom, we bought more Pontiac cars than any other car, Im still a Pontiac person unless another manufacturer bring back Pontiac cars, my first car i bought was a PONTIAC, No one is a Pontiac person as me, l love Pontiac, Kit on knight rider was originally a Pontiac trans-aim, I tred switching to a 99 Camaro with the ls1 motor and my friend had a 99 ram air, i liked the ram air better still, these was the best, all of them of , Pontiac, i seen a ram air getting on the interstate from an entry ramp one day and the car was getting it, moving so fast to enter onto the interstate that it had to slow down to merge, what a incredible site, raw accelerating power, folks lets get together and bring back the muscle cars of Pontiac and have a festival dislay on the road, the firebird the trans-aim the g8 the ram-air etc, thankyou for this video, you bring back memories with the t-tops out and the v8 sounds cruising along, but unfortunately those days are over and don't look like they'll return no time soon, do anyone like my testimony

Correct me if im wrong, but what I like about that era of muscle cars is when you do bolt on upgrades, you see immediate results with or without a computer tune...its not like that no more

    • @troyburns6971
      @troyburns6971 2 роки тому +1

Those were good times , the computers compensated for bolt on mods , cams , headers , larger throttle bodies etc , today's cars 4 get it , taking too much $$$ out of the industrys pockets , that's why they killed off the muscle cars of the 60s/70s , you could add all the go fast goodies , step up the axle ratio 3.73 / 4.11 , head work , nice cam , headers / exhaust , bigger carb and didn't need a computer to tune squat !! You were the tuner , that's what made tinkering with cars fun

My 2nd Car was a brand new, off the dealership showroom floor 1975 400 CID 4 Speed, Silver Trans Am. MSRP as I recall was around $5,200.
It was a great car for cruising the Streets and after I sold it to a guy to buy a 1979 Z28, I heard the Cops were looking for me.
NOTE: After I sold the car.
The guy I sold it to was serving our Country over in Japan in 1979 and was home on leave.
Well, he was in fact “tearing up the streets, going around turns smoking the tires, dumping the clutch”!
Friends involved in the cruising for the most part just drove around peacefully and would be hanging out at the Burger Chef.
People were coming up to me saying the Cops are looking for a Silver Trans Am that is reckless and they want you bad.
Hey, wasn’t me, I sold the Trans Am about a week ago.
One of the Cops saw me in the new Brown Z28 and I got pulled over. He started asking me about driving the Trans Am around and lucky for me, the guy I sold the car to drive past the Cop. I quickly told the Cop, hey there he goes and the Cop went after him.
I didn’t find out what happened to him because he returned to Japan.
I glad he drove past the Cop when he did, probably saved me some grief!

In my opinion one of the best looking trans am models ever built. Those things were pretty bad ass when new. I’d take that car over just about anything new today. More reliable due less computers and big brother isn’t even remotely connected to it and you also don’t have cameras inside the vehicle. Plus it looks better than just about anything today. I had a trans am with a fully built 383 stroker and had plans to add forced induction but sold it before I did. It was actually very fast for its day especially since it was still NA. I also had an awesome JL Audio system in it and audio systems in hatchbacks would absolutely bump.

I had one. Bought it new in 1998 . It was black. It was the commercial that sold me on it it showed the camera going through the ram air through the motor and then out the exhaust. Payed 32000.00 for it. That was a lot back then. I am in oh. The dealership had to call around because there wasn’t internet. They found one in pa. and had it shipped to my dealer. I wanted a 6 speed but they couldn’t find one. So I got a automatic. Still fun. Unfortunately it’s spent more time in the shop with recalls and problems with everything from oil leaks to windshield wipers not working. So I sold it with only 11000 miles on it.

I could tell you really enjoyed the car, but I don't think you gave a the power train enough credit.
