I shorten my own driveshafts too. I took 5 of the leftover pieces that were about 4 inches long and welded them to the floor of an old coupe project around the shifter to use as cup holders.

So they told you its impossible or you just don't know how much work is involved yet in forty five minutes the whole front is back and lots of stuff like some of the "whow and some of the go" lines are done now and your still standing upright so there is a plus... like you implied, why listen to the negs when the proof is right out the shop door and all the way out to the highway. I know its a good day when you can spend it with your son. I think that you show more by the fact of doing and thats what we all could stand to do is spend time with the kids and take the profession further with body builds and fast cars. Thanks Brent for sharing your skills with all of us

When it comes to welding aluminum it all boils down to a good welding equipment and knowing which aluminum is best to weld. There are lots of aluminum alloys that are unweldable. I personally like to use a spool gun when welding aluminum. Its very challenging when your welding with aluminum rods especially if your welding crappy aluminum, what I mean by that is dirty aluminum. Aluminum must have the proper alloys for it to be weldable which means they must be of pure quality. That's paramount. If you use shitty dirty aluminum it can be a royal pain to weld. A lot of it has to deal with what type of aluminum you are using as weld. for example 2024 alloy is very difficult to weld its basically unweldable. 1xxx alloys are the best to use its a pure aluminum alloy. 5083 is a good aluminum alloy to weld. With very high joint strength. 6061 is good all way round alloy to weld. And 6063 is good also 2024 is unweldable alloy. So basically you have purchase the correct aluminum to weld if you want nice welds. The more impurities you have in your aluminum the harder it is to weld. aluminum must be cleaned before welding or your weld will look like crap.
