Hi teebeesea, Paul was my grandfather - he was a singer with "Your Hit Parade", and also toured as a singer and dancer with Mae West. After my mother was born, he left performing and became a music publisher, which was his career until he retired in the early 1970s. However, he neve stopped singing for all of us...one of my favorite memories of my childhood!
Thanks Big Lou, for featuring my wonderful grandparents Amy and Paul Barry in the video for this song! It's so much fun to watch for me, and I know my family will love it. Can't wait for more!
What a nice compliment! He and Lennie Hayton were great friends up until Lennie passed away - in fact, Lennie was my mother's godfather. My grandmother does a wonderful imitation of Lena Horne!
This is the first time I have heard this song, and my first impression of it ,is that it is great, so great in fact, that I have added it to my favourites. Thank you so much .
Many thanks for the update...sounds like it was "a life well-lived" and it's so wonderful that he is recalled so fondly by family and others. I think his vocal on The Morning After is one of the greatest dance band vocals ever recorded!
I thank you people for the wonderful photos. If any of you have the sheet music of "Once In Love With Amy"with Granny's photo on it,please send me a scann of it and I will add it to future uploads.
Big Lou - You are a hero to our family and now an honorary member for life! I can't thank you enough for posting two of my grandfather Paul's songs on here. None of the family has ever heard these recordings quite so clearly until now. If you can burn all of them on CD for me, you can name any price. Many thanks!!! Michael
Send me a membership card.Had to get rid of my collection because of a fall+health problems and had to part with those wonderfull Lennie Hayton+Paul Barry records when I moved.
THANKS really enjoyed this - Love to see the real pics and hear the history. 95 years is an amazing age - btw Hope the snow stopped and the sun shone for you on your birthday!
Janette,Amy Barry would be 101 by now(made this 6 years ago). The song "Once In Love With Amy" was written about her and her husband Paul Barry's relatives were nice enough to send me the great photos.I'm feeling better but more snow tomorrow.
Big Lou, I will see if I can locate a copy of the sheet music that isn't framed, as mine is. Whenever yo get arond to posting the rest of the songs, we will enjoy them very much.
Hi Big Lou, Can you tell us anything about Paul's musical career both before and after he made these superb records with Lennie Hayton? BTW the song Once In Love With Amy wasn't written until 1948 so no records of it would be listed in Rust, which cuts off at 1942. Thanks for your great posts.
@ChristophePhilippe ,Singer Paul Barry's wife Amy is still living in Florida at 97.Lennie Hayton's wife,Lena Horne died recently. The Barry family was kind enough to send me the photographs.
I have 4 more vocals by Paul Barry,He made 16 with Lennie Hayton Orch, but these 4 are not as clean."It Looks Like Rain On Cherry Blossom Lane","Carelessly","That Old Feeling","and "Lovely One".You will have to wait awhile until I get my computer cleaned out.(LOU)
I have 3 more Paul Barry vocals that I'm holding back.,waiting to see if someone has the sheet music with granny "Amy"'s photo on it.Who was the publisher of that sheet music? When I checked Rust's book.,it says that Paul did not record the "Amy"tune. Big Lou
