    It was the Academy Award Winner for Best Song--Original for the Picture in 1972
    One of the greatest songs ever!!!! Here you can hear the original (recently published) version as it was performed in the film by Renée Armand, who was dubbing the singing voice of Nonnie (the character played by Carol Lynley). Later, the song was recorded by Maureen McGovern and that was the version included in the soundtrack (very good and the most famous too). But this one, is the original... rite from the film. Enjoy!!!

    I wonder why they didn't just release this version of the song? I really love it. Love the Maureen McGovern one too, but you can really hear the movie in this one. Thumbs up to Renee Armand.

      Both versions are beautifully done, however I believe this version was chosen to represent the film's theme song early on, as well as to provided ongoing inspiration and momentum throughout filming and production to the cast and crew involved in what turned out to be a forerunner in what is now known as the major, motion-picture complete with theme music/song genre. In its own right, this version very likely contributed GREATLY to the spirit and overall success of the movie. With this version of the movie's theme song in mind, it brought out the best in a first rate cast who all together did such a great job with the script, and by the end of production, final edits, etc., the powerful story and triumphant ending needed a stronger voice and a more up tempo timing and slightly stronger sound to finish with. I can see how both versions were instrumental in creating this timeless, classic movie.

      They should have had Renee record the “official”’song. I prefer her voice better than McGovern though McGovern has a great voice. I can hear McGovern copying Armand’s proper British English enunciation.

      I recall a lounge sceen where the band is either practicing or playing for cruisers and this is the version the blond, female band lead singer is singing. I don't know if they are one & the same, or if the actress was lipsyncing. So this version was at least used in a sceen of the movie. Business is business and using someone who was a proven chart topper was not only the safest thing to do, it was a way to get free movie aproval from McGovern's fan base and additional movie advertising as it climbed the music charts. But I recall the band doing this version within the movie.

    no disrespect to Maureen McGovern because it's not her fault, this version is like bach compared to the bay city rollers version that comprised the single...record companies are great at making money while lower standards...anyway...Renee Armand's interpretation is the definitive one of this song in my opinion

    When this film was released in Singapore in 1972 I saw it 5 times andone of the reasona was this song. I was writing the lyrics in the dark etc and I was singing professionally then I think I was the first to sing it on stage there. No disrespect to Maureen MacGovern but the hit version lack the simplistic beauty of Renee's version and I have searched for this version for 39 years so you can imagine my joy when I finally found it. This song will always remain close to my heart

    SIGH isn't this version just so so pretty and it sounds like an actual lounge song that might have been sung on the ship for entertainment instead of the version released on the single by Maureen McGovern I LOVE this version so much more. I can clearly picture the ships' ballroom and the party from the movie.

    I saw the 1972 version of The Poseidon Adventure. Two Reverends were in the Film. The young Reverend led some passengers to freedom. The old Reverend was encouraged by the younger Reverend to accompany them, but his classic reply showed his love and concern for those left behind: "These people need me here." A very noble heart indeed.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting this. I've literally been looking for this version for years. • @imfallen_angel

    Best version, no question about it... so much sad passion, like a soft whisper being told to a friend or loved on... as opposed to the MCGovern's version that is simply over the top and more about "look how epic and grandiose I'm exclaiming these lyrics", losing all the meaning behind the words.

    • @MS-wb5mf

      I think what you observed is simply the fact that Maureen McGovern is a Broadway star with a vocal range that simply can't be reached by ms Armand.

    • @larryhensley8586
      @larryhensley8586 2 роки тому +1

      @@MS-wb5mf It's not about "vocal range" or anything like that. In my opinion, Renee Armand's version is more poignant, and comes across as more sincere. The last thing a song like this needs is a "Broadway star" approach. Besides, you don't know that Ms. Armand couldn't have hit the same notes in the same way as Ms. McGovern, had she wanted to bellow in the same over-the-top way.

    • @MS-wb5mf
      @MS-wb5mf 2 роки тому +2

      @@larryhensley8586 I like the Renee Armand subdued version and it has it's place, however what your suggesting is like kicking Luciano Pavarotti off the stage and sending up Kris Kristofferson to perform Ava Maria because you felt that version had a more direct approach. I think anyone who knows anything about music can see the difference, Maureen Mcgovern puts an unbelievable degree of feeling into the song.

I was 17 in 1972, the year of the movie, & it made an impression on me. Years later, in management training, the movie was used in demonstrating true leadership. Gene Hackman's character showed this true leadership. But as a young teen, I connected with Carol's character -- so pretty, so young, so vulnerable.

Although Maureen McGovern's version of Morning After was a No 1 hit it doesn't compare to the simplicity of Renee Armands version that was used in the film itself. I think the year before, Bedknobs and Broomsticks had won that Oscar. Such a joke, they eliminated it as a competitive category the next year - so the Poseidon effects team got a well deserved honorary Oscar… it also had IMHO, the best all-star cast of all time!

      @Mrs. Phyllis Stephens - For a long time, mcgovern version was the only one released on the phonographic market, so people who loved the film version had no option but to purchase the compact disc with mcgovern - my father included. The Oscar vote took place long after the film became a worldwide success, with expert critics celebrating the song well before the release of McGovern's version - members of the academy had this in mind. Allen would not admit that the version with Renée was released worldwide at the time of the film, because he obviously did not want the world to know that Lynley had been dubbed when she sings the song. Ok we all up to speed?

    This song played all the time on FM radio, I remember singing along when I was a kid. We also sang this song at my 8th grade graduation ceremony.

    Sa me rappelle la séquence de l arbre de Noël ou le pasteur mets les paluches au panier pour monter dans le sauvetage des passages du bateaux

    Absolutely Ron DiFabbio! I ALWAYS liked the version of this song that was in the original movie best, but I never heard it anywhere besides the movie. Where did this come from? I love it. Of course, I'd even like bagpipes.

    I enjoyed her voice in the Poseidon Adventure and Carol Lynley did a great job in lip-syncing that song in the movie
