1966 .... a great year in television and film .... and what a wonderful series this was, even if only for kids .... it was so plausible ... and had such wonderful musical theme .... those were the days .....
Oh yes, inspired by the GENIUS of The Andersons - too true! I will say Thank You to them, continually, for creating this wonderful show. I have seen all episodes of the original countless times, and think back to them often, but I am so pleased that this back story stuff is being released to add just another level to the life and times of the Tracey's. I mean we knew that The Hood and Kyrano were linked, but not in this way. Thanks to Jamie Anderson for continuing with The Thunderbirds for further generations. Good to see that the times of reality is finally catching up.
So now we know how Lucille died. As for John, if he was existing in real life today and through the current situation, the poor sod would be very lucky that he's stuck in Thunderbird 5.
Not quite entirel socially distanced. Thunderbird 5 has to be resupplied from Earth by Thunderbird 3 and the more outgoing Alan (although living on an island helps with social distancing).
I was totally amazed by this story!! I was so heartbroken for the Tracy family after they lost Lucille and Jeff's father. Guess that was part of why Jeff started International Rescue. Anyway, thanks for the video @GerryAnderson.

Don't get me wrong, I've been watching and loving Gerry Andersons creations for well over half a century... Yes, I had all the original Palitoy creations from Supercar (aged 2) Fireball XL5, Stingray, (aged 3-4 yrs) then all the Thunderbirds and Dinky FAB 1, (aged 6 - 7), then all the Capt Scarlet Dinky/Corgi vehicles -- SPV, Spectrum Patrol, Angel Interceptors (aged 7-8). Then the Joe 90 car (aged 9) then the UFO moonbase interceptor and Mobiles... (aged 11-12) The only reason why I didn't get the Space 1999 'Eagle' spaceship, was because I'd joined the Royal Navy and kinda grew-out of toys, which might have undoubtably affected my 'deck credibility'.... . So, no... Not *absolutely incredible* that someone has taken the trouble to present a backstory to our favourite shows, just par for course here on UA-cam, albeit gratefully received. (I've subscribed, but only for mild entertainment and fond memories...). GET A GRIP !

Really nicely made. Thank you for making it publically available to tell the essential backstory that for some reason was never part of the original series. Maybe because when TB first aired no one would have cared about a backstory. But we all love TB now, from 10 year olds watching the CGI series to oldies who remember watching the original series when it first aired. It's very satisfying to learn how IR started, thank you once again to everyone involved in making this series of shorts.
So many questions answered watching these. I only remember reading a couple of part of the original comic story, now everything is fitting into place. I also see so many simularities to Gemini Force in this part too.

I see you are being faithful to the original comic, so much so that you've opened up the 2026 or 2065 argument again: if Gordon was 16 in 2020, he's sure doing well for 61 in 2065! (Not that this matters, I'm sure these events can be transplanted to whenever people prefer to set it.) Thunderbirds Legends is such a cool name for this by the way.
I've got to say, you've got me hooked on these. Will there be more things like it centred around the other series too, like Captain Scarlet and Stingray? :)

I just assumed the Thunderbirds were set in a futuristic 1960s. I had no idea it was set 60 to 100 years in the future. My brother and I enjoy that futuristic space series. I remember both of us imitating the walks of the puppets throughout the house not caring if our other siblings would laugh at us.

The old Thunderbirds are pretty nice to watch, but I really like today's Thunderbirds Are Go 2015. Best Thunderbirds series ever made. I like every Tracy brother just as much. And Kayo Kyrano. Hopefully 4th season, sometime will come.

Another source says she caught him stealing from an Oil Tycoon and she sought to put him on the right path for his abilities.
Well I never knew how they lost a mum and now I know it's sad really they should release this is a book or an audiobook it is like good I am enjoying it very much now I know how he Mets tintin's father
Another great backstory! All the pieces of the puzzle start to fit. Did the backstory already exist before the launch of the Thunderbirds series and if yes, why wasn't it integrated into the series?
@@darthaustralis6129 Virgil is second born, then John, according to original 1960's documents and the Thunderbirds Are Go 1966 film. The confusion comes from merchandise guides written by someone how mistakenly thought the opening titles reflected the birth order.
Honestly if you read any printed material from the annuals you get alot if conflicting information! One even had John and Gordon listed as the same age (you can find that page reprinted in a picture in 'The Vault' on page 52 - they're both listed as 22 and no birthdays which could imply they were twins if you never picked up any other material on the show) and there even was a matchbox car set that had John listed as the youngest and not Alan. They either weren't consistent with what info they gave out, there were alot of typos/misprints (which is common in the old novels) or some companies making merch that didn't really care enough (I assume it's a combination of all three) super fascinating how much conflicting stuff exists. Even in the guide for the live action film and the 2015 one there's Alot of typos - I guess it's to keep us on our toes! (Actually in the live action movie one it has Virgil listed on TB5 and not John... it's actually quite hilarious)

@@iPilott Scott Gordon and Alan are correct but there is no definitive consensus on the virgil and john order. I tend to lean scott virgil John Gordon Alan as that seems to make the most sense in terms of roles personality and various ing8rmation over the years.

I am absolutely loving these "beginnings" videos. With that said, did I miss an announcement regarding some changes in the lore? I was under the impression Gordon was born in 2043? How would he be participating in the 2020 Olympics at the age of 16? Did the year Thunderbirds take place get changed? Just looking for clarification. Other than that, top job!

Ironically, I/we blew out the chemistry lab windows in high school in Kidderminster. Sadly, I didn't get to be an astronaut. After 9 years in the armed forces, I did Virgils job of transporting heavy goods in a 44ton truck 😄 In primary school I did go to the school fancy dress party dressed as Virgil from Thunderbirds. I am now over halfway through my 60's, and in a wheelchair, but still love the show 😎

Blowing out the University windows - with his experimental rocket. Alan Tracy's habit was unfortunate. But he had the habit of space flight.
Ironically, I/we blew out the chemistry lab windows in high school in Kidderminster. Sadly, I didn't get to be an astronaut. After 9 years in the armed forces, I did Virgils job of transporting heavy goods in a 44ton truck 😄 In primary school I did go to the school fancy dress party dressed as Virgil from Thunderbirds. I am now over halfway through my 60's, and in a wheelchair, but still love the show 😎
