Keith Ho oh you know it better than he does, I believe. You must feel yourself on point then as you nailed it. You should learn what the interview process is all about. It’s not about letting a busy man speak his mind (by agenda), it’s about putting him in positions where he can express himself and nobody guarantees it will be nice and comfortable.
Walt is 73 years-old (70 here). I hate to say it, but he needs to get a co-interviewer like Kara Swisher or a young person in their 30s or at least 40s. He is slowing in an industry that is fast paced. Love you Walt, but it's time to take a look at what you are doing.
Can't help, but hear implications in Walt's questions, that Google somehow ought to fit their business practice into some boundaries, which he thinks are more viable. Walt, they are Google, and they are fine. They don't have an obligation to match anyone's financial model, since their own is strong enough to shape itself.
BubblesPothowari it’s an interview, not a deck speech. He definitely had his time for replies. Some of his answers were not convincing enough (in my humble opinion of course).
Everyone in the comments is mentioning the fact that the interviewer was disrespectful and condescending. He was a little pushy with some questions but I don't think that his character took that much away from interview. It didn't seem that Sundar was really bothered either.
Walt , google has been doing follow up questions for a while now. It is away ahead of other assistants like siri , you should maybe try it before you inteview the ceo. Why is a google device creepier than an amazon device. Google has a great track record with putting customers first.
Yeah what the hell Walt, such a stupid question. It has been possible for YEARS. And on the part where Google doesn't make their own phones, this Walt guy is so damn uncongenial towards Sundar because they are doing it different from Apple. But he forgot that it's Foxconn that makes their phones.
As douchey as the interviewer was, he was correct in his questioning. Google's search-by-voice feature is only a small component of Google Now. I just checked the official Google Now product page and oddly enough voice search isn't even mentioned.
Google Now is specifically the predictive card interface. The assistant is just called "Google". People were confused because they were introduced at the same time so they figured the overarching name was Google Now. They probably couldn't have made it more confusing if they tried.
I like Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher when they are interviewing people together. I don't like either one when they are solo. Kind of like the Beatles ... they are talents ... but together they were amazing. Walt is getting up there and, as much as I like the guy, he needs Kara or someone to give his interviews some congeniality. The ending signoff was pathetic. He stands up and says "Sundar thank you so much" as they coldly walk off. Walt seems out of it.
Walt Mossberg is extremely disappointing in this interview, does not make any sense most of the time and cutting Sundar off when he tries to make any sense .
Walt is so dumb sometimes....and I think a lot of it has to do with his Apple obsession. The voice aspect of Google Now isn't meant to be branded. It's Google search that you use your voice with and that's part of Now, Search, soon to be Home, etc. They want it to be everywhere and not this one thing. It just works. You know anywhere you have Google, you'll have voice too. He seems to think they should've given it a cute name like Siri bc that's what Apple did when Google's approach is entirely different and much better.
Just tried that sheep in New Zealand to who is the prime minister test they mention about 10 minutes in, naturally Siri failed at it. Didn't even speak out an answer to the second question, just brings up links, which is pretty useless for a hands free assistant.
The comments really analyse this really well. Between the you knows and Mossberg's condescending interviewing. I really enjoy Sundar Pichai's interviews though. He was great at Google IO
I imagine that to have your own personal Google would be like having a materially designed floating action button with you everywhere, that you press and it organizes all the information and makes it perfectly accessible, which sounds good to me, sort of an augmented comprehension of everything. A "phone" seems like an okay iconic representation of such a daydream, but like comparing Linux to other desktop operating systems, it kind of leaves out the vastness of one greater level of abstraction and interconnection.
Michael Lewis this makes their pivot smaller. Companies whose l assets better understand this, make bigger leaps, but this is what happens in life. Still Google is very big and has power in their approach in many fundamental things.
These interviews are very hard to listen to due to the interviewers constantly interrupting, making snide comments, and not naturally moving the conversation. The interview with Elon musk was worse.
Come on smart people, stop complaining the interviewer spoiled the interview as he didn’t match your expectation of what a real good interview should look like. I know he shows himself up, but when you complain in comments, that misery magnifies by orders of magnitude. Just appreciate what you can here. I think you take something from watching this still.
hey watch the code conference Elon Musk..Walt is a terrible interviewers..just too disrespectful..just lame..just goes to show how egoistical he is yet so limited in the mind..
if I want to buy an ipad I'll read Walts review but he shouldn't be allowed to interview people - a little better than the Musk interview, but not much...
20:52 - What is Walt's fascination with Google making its own devices? Why on Earth would Google want to get into that business when the Samsungs and Huaweis and Xiaomis of the world can do it for Google. Margins on hardware are slim and its a costly business. The whole point of Android seems to be missed by Walt. It exists to enable devices at many levels, not just devices for those who can afford it.
many (great) Asian engineers and designers work at Apple, so "designed in California" doesn't change much of the fact that they are all Chinese machines ...
You know....I like Sundar.....yeah you know him he's Google CEO... hahaha ....you know I'm his biggest follower from India....you know...you know.....keep it up Sundar...proud of you
I don't think just because a person chooses a certain brand, makes him biased. He just chosed it over the other. We all make decisions like that. Doesn't mean we're biased.
Good cover by Sundar on screen question, but I feel the answer is could be better that have Screens are a primary source of communication in HCI. As part of good communication, there needs to be a feedback loop in them and what I feel is that without the screens the element of an intelligent feedback loop will be lost. My opinion will be that until the V.R and A.R mature enough.
Sundar Pichai is the Steve Ballmer of Google for sure after Larry Paige and the founders left just like Bill Gates in Microsoft side , Larry Paige and Eric Schmidt still reshaping the company though
can you talk about outreach to communities in Los Angeles where we have thousands of brilliant minds working in starbucks, uber, hotels, and amusement parks! Why are young people wasting their best years in these minimum wage jobs?! How can we transform the workforce? Lets have a discussion about access to opportunity! How can we use technology to open up the doors for young people!!!!
In my opinion Sundar still does not represent the breadth of Google as a brand in public. He might be a great professional, but Google brand is still bigger than what he encompasses with his speeches. I think things will change, but I’m not buying Sundar as the voice of Google at least for now.
I think to myself; It must be pretty frustrating to limit your imagination processing just to answer a dumb question.. but then again, google search engine answer them all the time.
Dear Great Sunder Sir , you and google are the great ever the world in terms of simple and humble Charity , Employment generation , poverty eradication , Governance ,and the total revolution.. Big salute sir
We call Google Now "Gina" in our household - which came from Google Navigation (G-Na). There you go Sundar. You can high-five me later. ua-cam.com/video/IwS3OF7zCY4/v-deo.htmlm
Great Interview, Sunday seems to be nice guy who knows his stuff but I would've been a bit more detailed in the answers. Its so annoying to see half of the comment section framing the interviewer as rude, he did his job, which was to ask tough questions and get the answer he wants out of Sundar. To say the he should be softer to Sundar because he is the CEO of Google is insane and I believe it is the result of years of establishment media with a bit of the culture in which the people bow down to the powerful (trump phenomenon)
this guy is constantly interrupting the guy. very disrespectful. Sundar is very genuine and no show off considering his position that is very great.
Retire this OLD MAN
Dear god but Walt likes to hear himself speak.
Such an annoying OLD man trying to be techno savy- huuhhhhhhh
Walt Mossberg - can you get to the point? Sundar is a busy man.
lol exactly! Walt is acting very defensive for some odd reason..
Keith Ho he’s an old fart
Keith Ho oh you know it better than he does, I believe. You must feel yourself on point then as you nailed it. You should learn what the interview process is all about. Wow..sundar sir follows our indian culture Be simple till now..after spending many years in western culture
Sunder time to make sure less "you know's" in interviews. Good interview
I thought it was a good interview. He doesn't shy away from tough questions. Did it with Jobs, does it with Sundar.
This interviewer is so condescending and off-putting....
Hey Walt...Foxcon makes your precious iPhones...( NOT Apple )
Ok, LG makes your Nexus (NOT Google) =)
Timur Gaskarov Every one already knows this...
+Timur Gaskarov we can see LG logo on Nexus.
they don't know reality of foxcon company.
MKBHD could do a better interview than with Mossberg.
true.
MKBHD is a legend man!
"you know" was said 197 times in this video and that's just what UA-cam Transcribe picked up.
Daniel Mullaly look
The interviewer spoke over him so much but when sundar got a chance to talk it was interesting
Can't help, but hear implications in Walt's questions, that Google somehow ought to fit their business practice into some boundaries, which he thinks are more viable. Walt, they are Google, and they are fine. They don't have an obligation to match anyone's financial model, since their own is strong enough to shape itself.
He inspired me a lot as a Tamil boy
walt just wasted the guy's time. he should interview kids instead.
4:48 " these are phenomenal companies..." This respect makes me respect Google.
Pray Google CEO is allowed to speak, its his interview.....
BubblesPothowari it’s an interview, not a deck speech. He definitely had his time for replies. Some of his answers were not convincing enough (in my humble opinion of course).

someones gotta count the amount of times he said 'you know', and what % it is of all his words
8:50 "You never really did a good job of branding the voice piece of Google Now."
Case in point, he called it "Google Now"
As douchey as the interviewer was, he was correct in his questioning. Google's search-by-voice feature is only a small component of Google Now. I just checked the official Google Now product page and oddly enough voice search isn't even mentioned.

Who is the biggest iSheep in the world?
Walt Mossberg
I agree, Walt is super condescending, and the fact that he's almost talking down to the freaking CEO of GOOGLE ... annoying!
coz sundar is brown. that subtle racism
It's probably true sadly
B Cuz But most of Indians really don't mind, we just move on instead of making an issue.
Gaurav Solanki so enabling
I like Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher when they are interviewing people together. I don't like either one when they are solo. Hi guys, I think they have a personal relationship too that enables Walt to take a little more leverage than he would with any other guest
Best poker face: Walt Mossberg! Haha....
Warning big amount of " *you know* " was in this conversation xD
O_O didn't realise that till now
Was looking for this comment xDDD
Just tried that sheep in New Zealand to who is the prime minister test they mention about 10 minutes in, naturally Siri failed at it. Didn't even speak out an answer to the second question, just brings up links, which is pretty useless for a hands free assistant.
Im glad that everyone else thinks he is condescending in this interview, I bet if it were Apple he would be on his knees and praising them.
I came here to hear Sundar speak, I left halfway though because the interviewer is horrible
The comments really analyse this really well. Between the you knows and Mossberg's condescending interviewing. I really enjoy Sundar Pichai's interviews though. He was great at Google IO
That Jeff Goldblum is one hella actor.
I imagine that to have your own personal Google would be like having a materially designed floating action button with you everywhere, that you press and it organizes all the information and makes it perfectly accessible, which sounds good to me, sort of an augmented comprehension of everything. Time stamps for questions?
1:35 We see a huge opportunity and inflection point
3:55 Benchmark against any quality metric
Walt Mossberg is very annoying in this interview..
"The Verge's..." - no more explanation then
+Ahmad Aulia So true!
Retire his ass
Google's attitude that they can 'Do it better' is the problem with Google today.
Michael Lewis this makes their pivot smaller. Companies whose l assets better understand this, make bigger leaps, but this is what happens in life. Still Google is very big and has power in their approach in many fundamental things.
Where is the HD recode?
Music for life, science for life, you for life etc
"For me, you know, the onus is--the bar is on us--to give enough value that people trust us."
These interviews are very hard to listen to due to the interviewers constantly interrupting, making snide comments, and not naturally moving the conversation. The interview with Elon musk was worse.
Thumbs up for Sundar Pichai for keeping his cool. It must have been annoying to be cut so often. At least, I was getting annoyed...
It's a talk of Walt..pichai was there only to hear Walt
Most disgraceful?
Thoughtful is definitely his favourite word.
and "you know"
Great ......👏🏻
this guy looks so pissed off and so condescending towards Sunder..should show some courtesy and patience asking questions.
exactly! He seems very defensive.
Come on smart people, stop complaining the interviewer spoiled the interview as he didn’t match your expectation of what a real good interview should look like.

Who is this Walt Mossberg and where does he get the courage to be so condescending? Very dissapointing interview.
we are doing it :D
I loved Nexus 5, it started off great then after a year later it totally started to suck so bad!! Iphone is reliable that i can say for sure so far.
the interviewer is super annoying......kudos to Sundar for showing so much class and patience...love you Sundar.....
I've very disappointed with my Nexus 5X.
if I want to buy an ipad I'll read Walts review but he shouldn't be allowed to interview people - a little better than the Musk interview, but not much...

Apple devices are made by foxcon , Chinese company. he don't know about it.
haunt spots yeah, he probably thinks "designed in" means "made in" :)
many (great) Asian engineers and designers work at Apple, so "designed in California" doesn't change much of the fact that they are all Chinese machines ...
Sandor Gonzalez yeah bro , we have to accept the reality in india as well as in usa, that china is hardworking.
RCS with Allo and Duo features in Native devices, or fragmented message applications stand alone?
You know....I like Sundar.....yeah you know him he's Google CEO... hahaha ....you know I'm his biggest follower from India....you know...you know.....keep it up Sundar...proud of you
Believe it or not but google pays him $1000 everytime he says *" you know "* .
The interviewer is awful lol
yes we know
thank you ) u know
wasnt recode bought out by comcrap?
Wearing an Apple Watch in front of Sundar. HAHA!
The interviewer is actually an apple fanatic, he was a good friend of Steve Jobs as well, you can see his reviews on latest apple laptops even..
+Justin Joseph yeah. I listen to his podcast with Nilay.
that explains why The Verge is actually iVerge.
I don't think just because a person chooses a certain brand, makes him biased. He just chosed it over the other. We all make decisions like that. Doesn't mean we're biased.
Yes, revival of project ArA Google and Tesla in-house
I know

Did anyone count the number of times Pichai says: "...you know.."
If I would "know" all these, why should i listen to Sundar?
You know!
WTF! We don't know !
you know, well you know. CEO.
21:59 reaction, priceless.
Sundar Pichai is the Steve Ballmer of Google for sure after Larry Paige and the founders left just like Bill Gates in Microsoft side , Larry Paige and Eric Schmidt still reshaping the company though

Could we also say that it's so degraded & therefore it will understand
When Sundar says "you know" I say DRINK!😂
Nature and Technology Together
Good
Sundar was great. Walt seemed to be trying to bother him the whole time with crappy jokes and stupid questions
India is proud of him.
Yes.
Is this buildings on email id
In my opinion Sundar still does not represent the breadth of Google as a brand in public. He might be a great professional, but Google brand is still bigger than what he encompasses with his speeches. I think things will change, but I’m not buying Sundar as the voice of Google at least for now.

An absurd development & Google will have the doc to it as why this happened at scale
And that building will solve their problems with email ? Yes
Like washing clothes etc
You know...
Walt is by far the worst high profile interviewer out there.
Scratch that, Walt is the worst tech guy out there.
And could screen be a destiny too
"The YOU KNOW" Interview!...I mean I know, but I wasn't able to understand anything, because....you know....
thats because he is Google CEO and you know you are not :)
Development as penny development
Was WALT DRUNK? WTF
Dear Great Sunder Sir , you and google are the great ever the world in terms of simple and humble Charity , Employment generation , poverty eradication , Governance ,and the total revolution.. Big salute sir
Sundar pichai looks and talk like a lighter version of Jeff Goldbum
We call Google Now "Gina" in our household - which came from Google Navigation (G-Na). There you go Sundar. You can high-five me later.
ua-cam.com/video/IwS3OF7zCY4/v-deo.htmlm
Gina wild reminds me of something familiar from Germany!
...You know....That..I mean..You know...XD

I think comparing facebook to google/apple is a huge joke.
The interviewer thinks that he is smart... but it's very evident.
Who's mama ? What's he upto ?
Accha & these quantum saves area beautiful. Let's say your destiny is written
one of the worst high tech industry interviewer
1.2 billion that's all I see when I see him
lift bro?
