I think is unfair Donnie and Leo can see their crushes whenever they want while Raph and Mikey just sometimes. Donnie and april didn't even had good chemistry to begin with
Donnie and Leo are only two crushing on humans one of which is like their sister while raph and mikey are crushing on aliens and witches and crap
I see what they were at least trying to do with Leo/Karai and April/Casey/Donnie, I think both situations were SUPPOSED to sort of be awkward teen romances. Not “will they won’t they” exactly, but more like… they are teens and all confused and hormonal. However Karai being the turtle’s sibling and April seeming cruel kind of ruin any charm they might have otherwise had.
Raph and Mona I think are genuinely charming - their relationship is very simple and straightforward but they seem to be on the same page and equally interested in each other. Mikey and Renet and Shinigami…? TBH I think Mikey is just 1. Starved for affection, and 2. A boob guy 😂
I agree with you 100% when you said " Rise Donnie is the best version of Donatello".
The Rise versions of the characters are the best versions, end of discussion. Glad to meet another man of culture.
Eventhough others say Raph and Mona was the sane ship, that one was forced in its own way too. Raph was kinda too quick to forgive her when she said she loves him after she gave him and the others up to Dregg. I know it's a cartoon, but the writing didn't help it or this series.
Plus, she has no age and is from another galaxy

I don't mind raph, and leos romances, but donnies is my issue, i always liked 12 donnie outside 2 things, his lack of fighting skills, i never saw progress, and his simping nature for april, it took 3 seasons to get over her, and in the second episode of season 3, he comes to terms he can never be with her just for her to kiss him and for him to take back all his development, made no sense, i like leo karai, especially with how she is mutated now, and raph with that lizard is the best, if shredder had an evil love interest that would be interesting
Edit: Apparently Splinter had 0 contact with the turtles, as they were in the cage, saw some wacky debate about leo karai in some comment section, both parties going crazy about it, anyways I will never die on a hill defending it, but I find it okay, ofc early on was good, but if us as the audience accepted non related karai x mutant leo was okay, but once she was mutated and apparently step sister if u believe splinter had no contact, it makes it weird, my point being, step siblings is less weird than human x turtles, thats just me, none of the 2 bother me, i dont watch this show for romance, but if s1 karai x leo was accepted, s4 should be as well, shes a snake humanoid, if she married a human it would be kinda strange but not the worst, but I like this vid, not many people analyse this show, Favourite cartoon of all time, I had plans in my memory bank but Im too lazy but maybe one day Ill start
Honestly, I don't mind "Love at first sight" trope as long as they use it well but in Donnie's case they ruin it and him really bad especially his behavior towards April
I agree with you on Rise Donnie being the best take on the character because 2012 Donnie is such an eyesore and April in the 2012 series is bad for many reasons. But I will say that Rise April is well written and has more depth than her 2012 counterpart.

Shinigami was probably introduced as a love interest for Mikey due to Renett not being from his timeline.
I'm not sure about the turtles being mutated from Splinter, I'm not sure where that comes from 🤔?
Nevertheless, all these relationships should have been exploded more. Thankfully Karai and Leo don't actually get together, and many including myself agreed that Raph has the most solid relationship.
With April and Donnie, I'm surprised you didn't show the part in the season 2 finale where Donnie was about to confess his feelings to April but she stops him. Which implied that she doesn't feel the same way about him but then we get to that Bigfoot episode where she kisses him and completley forget about that in the next one 🤦🏿♂. It's also funny that she's had several kisses with Donnie and none with Casey Jones.
All in all, I guess writers decided to leave the relationships up in the air for fans to decide. On the one hand, that might be better than the shows getting too caught up in ships happening (like what happened with star vs the forces of evil or legend of korra). On the other hand, I think it would have been more interesting to actually explore these relationships whether they worked out or not.
P.S. I think you should do an episode about April's powers in this, and how they are sometimes an after thought or a convenient deus x machina 😎.
The idea of the Turtles being mutated from splinter isn’t in a literal sense, it’s that they came into contact with Splinter, so they mutated into a humanoid form. So if you wanna get technical, they could be seen as related via mutated DNA.
April is definitely a topic worthy of another video, regarding her powers and the Kraang mutation

Love how you kinda forgot the big detail of Y'Gythgba and Raph's that no one addresses: she is an adult (no stated age, and comes from a race that has a hypothetical 50 year life span [yes, this is based on IRL salamanders] as well as what i can gleam from TMNT Wikis, both completed, incomplete, fan making and official), her mannerisms yell adult, her fucking rank in her planet's air force indicates years worth of training. Even her 1980's counter part is canonically an adult - she JUST FINISHED her major degree in Physics (she would've gone through high school [graduating between 17-19, depending on her grades and when her birthday is] with the additional four years in college to get said degree [it is unknown if she was planning on getting her masters or PHD in the study] making her 21-23 at least when she meets Raph, who is a minor in the OG show, much like the 2012 series).

A ton of Aliens in Sci-fi are inspired by real life earth animals, insects are a popular one, but do they function or live as long as insects most of the time? NO
We literally do not know much how long it takes to train for a rank in her planet or much of anything about it honestly but it being an ALIEN SOCIETY FAR AWAY FROM EARTH probably indicates it doesn’t function the same.
Also “Adult mannerisms”? First of all, that’s very subjective and second of all there is a ton of teens out there (even some in my school!) that DO act mature for their age since people develop at different rates due to many reasons like their environment at home or at school.
So are the 2003 Turtles adults now too because they have traits that I consider very mature for their age?
With 1987 Mona, I literally looked at the transcript of the episode, she only ever states that she’s a physics major NOT that she finished it.
Did you know College freshman exist? Hey fun fact! My sister entered college when she was 17! Some people even enter at the age of 16! Hell in the same season Donnie got a college degree for being a prodigy, so if that’s clearly possible in their universe, couldn’t Mona have also done the same?

Throughout history there have been millions of teen lieutenants, generals and all kinds of soldiers. There is no indication in this show that ygithba is an adult, on the contrary she’s clearly in training under her father??? She’s clearly a teen.

Yes, it is unfair to use US ranking system, but the damn show never fucking fixed the issue by just having her there as the romantic love interest and nothing more. I am simply going off of what the show has implied, which is VERY little, as well as IRL Salamander life spans cuz that was the only thing that was given to us: an alien species that are giant salamanders, who age differently than humanoid turtles

Or a child's soccer team captain could call their co-captain lieutenant. What do you mean she doesn't act like a teenager? And how do you know how fast she or the turtles age?? They're mutants and aliens.
This sounds like a lot of cool ideas to explore in a fanfic, but I don't think it has any basis in reality in the show. She's basically just a teen klingon. It's not that complicated. P:

The older I got the more i realized how toxic April was. She was soooooo toxic. Donnie deserved better tbh.
If I could change 2 things in the 2012 Turtles it'd be the pacing at times like the first half of Season 3 & the romances. I don't think the 2012 Turtles is bad by any means but in my opinion it's one of the weaker TV Turtles. That's not an insult but I put the 03 Turtles & Rise above it. Not sure about the 80s Turtles I'd have to rewatch it and it certainly goes above Next Mutation
I think Leo/Karai was the worst. Not because of the related thing, because TMNT is full of messed up pairings and T-cest all over the fandom. To be adopted/half siblings is the least of their problems when they weren't even brought up together. But because it's just so toxic between them.
But April/Casey/Donnie? Well, Casey's a jerk. He's basically 'settle' level boyfriend. He's not funny, he's not clever, he's not strong... he is inferior in every way to Donatello, yet he is presented as an option because he's HUMAN, because a girl must date a guy and it's vital that guy be human, even if the girl turns out to not be human. since she LOOKS human after all.
And I do think there's Apritello leadup in Season 2 of Rise, but it's kept in mind that he's 14, she's 16. Donnie likes to give off 'Bad Boy' vibes (and fails) and he is into cute-but-mean girls, and April does qualify and they do get appropriately emotional on occasion, April absolutely shows how closely she thinks of Donnie and Donnie is eager to please April... but it's not shoved in your face or done in a way that humiliates anybody. It doesn't swamp him as a person.

NONE of the romance in 2012 was well-written and I'm glad Rise gave our green-skinned teenagers a relative rest where it wasn't pushed down your throat for every one of them.

And they can't out right say leo is gay even if they want to make it canon because Nick may not want that. But the writers still give us good represention along with Donnie being autistic coded too

To be honest I only saw Leonardo and cry as Leonardo throwing a crush on her not anything romantic to begin with. And I don’t know what these people and their sick minds are saying that they’re trying to promote incest with this. Personally I think they’re thinking too much with this. Donatello and April despite not having much chemistry we’re cute together. They get a pass because I’m a huge Rob Paulson fan and Mae Whitman. Michelangelo and Renet, Just felt like either Kevin and Gwen or beast boy and Terra. And yes I know them they’re both the same voice actor. Raphael and Mona, made sense. Still I do like this series and I never had a problem with the romance I think it was just something new and creative. I looked at the series as a whole not for shipping.
This is a little out of context but when did April kiss Donnie while he's wearing sunglasses and holding a guitar? I just rewatched the 2012 generation and I don't remember seeing that.😅
So I didn’t find this out until I got the complete series on dvd, but they did a music video about Ice Cream Kitty that I guess is an exclusive bonus feature to whatever DVD it was originally on
Yeah Leo and Karai was my favorite growing up, but when it first hit me that its almost incest i was just jaw dropped. I know the chances of them being mutated with splinters DNA is low because they are from a pet store, but it still felt off. But hey if they aren’t genetically or psychologically related, then I guess theirs no real issue. I always found their Cat woman Batman dynamic amazing.

The turtles started off as 15 in the show. Throughout each season I think they aged after every season finale. Season 2 Finale Casey says "Dude this is worse than that giant technodrome thing last year!" Indicating that the turtles were 16 at the time. So by the time Season 4 came around, they should be at least 18? Now I'm not too sure how old Y'Gythba is, but if she were to be a Young adult with her species age timing thing, Ramona/Raphlisa? is an okay ship because Raphael is 18. or 19. Unsure which age.

She led him on, he was a total creep. Stalking April was his only characteristic. Whenever she came on screen he'd be head over heals, totally awkward and disrespecting boundaries, then when he does respect boundaries, April says "LOL NVM I THINK YOU'RE CUTE AND" KISSES HIM! Not only that but she's an ENTIRE Mary Sue. She can be mad at the turtles for accidentally mutating her dad for a couple of episodes, but the turtles can't be mad at her for literally DECINTIGRATING THEIR OWN BROTHER FOR A CRYSTAL? That honestly pisses me off. The whole love triangle got SUPER annoying but I'm glad Donnie and Casey got Some bonding moments.

But I have one question,
Say you hypothetically lose your parents, and someone else raises you but can't adopt you due to having to stay low. He raises you and eventually dies.
Somewhere in between that you meet someone and fall in love, then you learn that that person is the child of the person that raised you. On one hand you think if him as a father. But like, you guys were NOT raised together as siblings, nor do you guy think of each other as siblings. How exactly is it still nasty and gross..
