I think having the guest have a second go after you tell them how many they got right/wrong should be a mainstay of this format. Give them a chance to think through which components of each archetype they might overvalue, basically trying to re-contextualize their guess
Wow, this is a really interesting way to introduce how yugioh works to Mtg players! With how archetype centric modern Yugioh is, this format provides context for the Mtg players so that they can better evaluate cards. That reminds me that non-archetype specific cards nowadays are either format warping superthreats (like Triple Tac, Handtraps, Kurikara, etc.) or pack filler garbage that sees no play today but would have been busted in older yugioh formats. Might be a good idea to explore the pack filler side if you continue doing single cards alongside archetype analysis.
Loved this changeup to the format. Seeing the interactions gives a lot more context for the guessers, allows them to see the cool interactions the cards are built for (even if they aren't always effective), and could help avoid situations where the guesser might argue the ranking of a specific card where it's not the current meta or otherwise a particularly strong or weak individual card in a contrarily weak or strong deck. Hope to see more like this!
This is probably the best way to go about this! It adds so much more context without having to outright explain each (likely unsolved) format and 20,000+ cards in history.
PLEASE do more of these! Blindly guessing some cards is fun and has its value but it was so cool (as a long-time Yugioh fan and aspiring MTG-learner in 2024) to see someone come in and be able to use their other-game knowledge to see how multiple cards synergize together despite having almost no Yugioh experience directly.
Man you did the guy dirty. His analyses has been spot on. he did a very good evaluation of archetypes for a game he doesnt play, but magic musket was impossible to evaluate. Even Yugioh players were certain that it would be tier 1 when it was anounced
I really liked this version of "MTG Player guesses," because it provides some additional context to your guest. Sometimes it's really hard to evaluate a card in a vacuum when you don't know other cards in the same scope, so this was very interesting to see. I also really liked your guest! He's very smart, I could tell he was quickly catching on to what the cards do
great video. I really liked the guest in this episode, and would love to see him in more videos. I think he is the guest that understood the cards alone the most without you kind of "translating" or explaining it to them and wasn't completely confused when looking at the cards. from the rest this series I was used to all the guests being confused and shocked from the cards that it was kind of a shock to see him just understanding them at first look. it was the first time I saw an mtg player read relatively complicated yugioh cards and not act like they are written in a completely different language
This is definately an improvement over single card in showing the mtg pros more context for what a card is supposed to do, it also allows them to compare between three decks instead of trying to determine if a single card is good without context of the game overall🎉
ABC had two notable periods. Around its release and when the Link Era started. During its release it was a budget option that had many qualities that made it a functional deck but not overpowered. It was apart of probably one of the fairest formats in Yugioh’s history. The 2nd was because ABC essentially got a buff from Links which were able to be summon for at a price even better than free.
I guessed Floowandereeze had to be the one that's good now purely because I could see on the bottom it was printed in 2020 while the other two are from the 90s.
Weirdly enough the copyright date doesn’t reflect actual printing date on most Yugioh cards. 96 was the year Yugioh was released as an IP, 99 was when Japan released the first set of cards, and 2002 was when it got brought to the US
YES!! I really love the focus on how yugioh decks actually work. Singleton good cards obviously exist, but the essence is in those synergies within an archetype. Really looking forward to more archetype guessing videos 😇
Well, it's been said multiple times in the comments before me, so I'm just reiterating here, but I really enjoyed this spin on the concept of showing non YGO players Yugioh cards. As someone who got his TCG start over in Pokemon, moved to Magic, and picked up Yugioh only with Master Duel, Yugioh has become my favorite of the big 3 precisely because of the goofy combo lines that are possible in the game, and showing part of an archetype is the best way to do that. Part of the problem some of these "Player from X game rates cards from Y game!!!" videos run into is that a lot of them turn into "show someone a weird card and then make funny noises when he gets it wrong!!!" when its a lot more interesting to explain mechanics of the game and allow the "contestant" to puzzle it out, instead of just waiting for them to inevitably get it wrong due to the radical differences between the two games (and the resulting mindsets of the players) in question. Of the multiple channels I've seen on youtube that cover this video concept, I like yours the most, James. You avoid the issues that the concept often runs into, instead allowing the "contestant" to think through the card. That's why I like this spin-off idea (focusing on archetypes instead of individual cards) as much as I do, because it turns it into more of a puzzle instead of Yugioh players all circling around the Magic player while pointing and laughing at him for not being able to figure out why Amano-Iwato (for instance) is good. As far as an archetype suggestion, I like the idea of looking at some of those archetypes that have been mediocre before one or two cards saved them, or legacy archetypes that got mountains of support. Mathmech Diameter/Circular-type things for the first one, and maybe something like Eternal Soul for Dark Magician decks as the second category.
tbf, You should definitely do more of this. It lets people learn to understand the modern game much better than looking at single cards. 1 suggestion tho, at the end, tell the guest the time of release for all the archetypes after they've made their guess to see if their guess changes
As the other commenters have said, I think you've struck gold with this format. Everytime I watch an MTG player guesses Yugioh they only ever leave the experience feeling more confused than anything else because it's just difficult to evaluate something with 0 context to how the meta actually is and see how the synergies work because of how text heavy Yugioh is. It's easier to evaluate single MTG cards from a YGO guesses MTG perspective because MTG is a lot less Archetype centric, more generally fluid/splashable, and have simpler effects overall, compared to the stupidly specific archetype-made infinite combo loops YGO cards have, so watching those videos have always felt kinda clunky to me. But this? This works really well! I think you've finally figured out the perfect format, this is tier 0 to me (bad joke sorry).
I would have expected that showing non-Yugioh players entire archetypes would overwhelm them, but it actually made each card easier to understand because there was context. The discussion became about how the cards were used together, rather than only what the technicalities meant. Would love to see this become the default video format!
Much more interesting than the previous format, where cards were limited to generic engine cards meaning you quickly run out of staples to use for "good" cards. Rating engines/archetypes allows the guests to review a wider variety of cards (that actually interact with other specific cards).
Ooh, there's so many good options for decks that used to be good but fell off, ABC was the literal first one I thought of too. There's a decent number even if you only wanna count stuff that just has too low a ceiling for the modern game (and isn't unplayed because their most broken cards are banned), BA, Kozmo, Monarch. Debatably Blue Eyes, though only because it was an insanely favourable format for them. Edit: Now that I've actually watched the video I have to add that I loved Alan's energy, and it was cool to see him piecing the interactions together.
First video of yours I've seen, and "player of different card game guesses at power level of cards" is a guilty pleasure type of content for me. I really like how you present things here, archetypes instead of single examples, it gives the guesser a better overview of the thing, even if they're still working in a vacuum; and you as a presenter don't mug for the camera or give out any leading or misleading questions
This format is great, adds a lot more context to the guessing... the tradeoff being that it might be overwhelming. I'd be very interested in seeing more of this
This is by far a much more fun format of "is this good or not?" imo it allows the contestant to build a picture of the deck's gameplan versus just "heres a blob of text figure out what it means" if youre gonna continue these videos i hope you keep this style up. :)
Archetypes was amazing since they have to really evaluate the cards or how cards that are too hard to summon (empen) look when you see their support. Also what's funny is ABC is arguably a coinflip against than right now because since Ancient Fairy Dragon/Therion/Vaalmonica existing give them a crazy ability through play through handtraps not named droll/Shifter. And neither deck likes playing into the board of the other. ABC can end on a few negates and a pop or reliably summon ABC equipped with all 3 names and you don't really side in Spell/Trap removal vs the Monster Combo deck and Floo has floodgates that are devastating for a deck that's reliant on Link summoning/the GY.
Some archetypes to keep in mind: Purrely: you are basically playing tamagotchi but yugioh Superheavy samurai: needs you to not have a spell and trap card in your deck at all. Phantom knights: plays with the graveyard alot.
Plunder Patrol could be an interesting archetype to ask about. I've been playing them in the current Master Duel event, and in lower powered settings they can really spiral out of control. So much attack boosting and banishing the opponent's stuff that it feels almost dirty. Lack of a wind ship (one day...) and one of the most played cards in the game (Ash) crippling them is so rough though. It definitely reads like something that could be good, but never really has been anywhere near meta. If only.... Also need a throwback to something like Summoned Skull beatdown or Jinzo as a really old 'used to be good' deck. Could always be mean and give them something like Azathot, then explain that it isn't good any more because those cards are banned. 🙃
Love the new format. I think you should've showed him floo and the unexplored winds instead of advent of adventure though, it's what makes the engine's disruption click
There is a funny archetype called Vaylantz Its gimmick is a board-chess game inside yugioh, which means you move your monster from zone to zone to activate their effect, low level vaylantz are the pawn you use in order to make your high level vaylantz summonable like you have to move your pawn in chess to move your Queen, the deck is kinda relevant and fairly competitive in the ocg format and master duel so you have to prepare for it.
Interested to see how he tackles this kind of archetype, since the payoff is whatever you want. Vaylantz has its own boss monster/payoff too, but what makes them considered good is their ability to do dumb stuff like FTK or create 5 negate boards.
It would be interesting to see people in the future try to evaluate archetypes that got absolutely murdered by ban lists, like any tier 0 deck pretty much. Would be curious to see whether they recognize that some stuff is just too broken to stay. Besides those tier 0 decks, like Zoodiac or Spellbooks (that one is especially interesting because of Spellbook of Judgment) I'd like to suggest Purrely, Monarchs, Dark Magician, Marincess, Madolche
Looking at the thumb nail I feel so bad. Magical Muskets should have been crazy good. It’s really just a touch too clunky. Their design principle was ultimately perfected with Runik
I was really sceptical of it because you basically only get to play at instant speed the whole game if you go second, and if your entire strategy becomes 50% worse in 50% of games that seems unfortunate
The biggest issue with MM is not that once you remove the monsters you can't use the spells/traps from hand (as Jame tried to explain). You would just set the spells/traps in that case. The issue is that if they remove the monsters your spells cannot be activated at all. EDIT: This means you can't lean heavy on the control portion (running a lot of the spells/traps) because if you dont draw a single monster your whole hand is now dead; but also you don't really want to draw a lot of monsters because MM are really ... like really bad at swarming the field.
I think this is a lot more fun tbh. It feels like the guest can "experience" more of what Yugioh is, and also that their card evaluation makes more of a difference since they're not just judging Robina on like "Is a tutor of a level 4 or lower winged beast good? Idk any other cards so coin flip yes or no", especially since archetypes are so foundational to how people process cards a lot of the time
I like this new version. Being able to get an idea of how an archetype is meant to work together is a lot more representative of modern YuGiOh than trying to evaluate random cards in a vacuum.
You could have mentioned that next to the ABC Union Machine Monster Archetype, there is also the (VW)XYZ Union Machine Monster Archetype. So while there are only one ABC, the are a lot more Letter Union Machine Monsters. With XYZ being the Original one.
This is really cool. I'd love to see a Trap deck on here and see how an MTG player is able to gauge a Trap's power in the vacuum of a Trap's slower speed. Something like Labrynth or Traptrix.
What a fun guest, all around he was a pleasure to watch and I loved how much fun he had unwrapping the workings of how these cards interact. I've never watched his vids before, but he seems like he's got a good grasp on game design, I'll have to check him out. I think this was an amazing idea for an episode. It was a lot of fun to see the little clicks in his head as each were revealed. Ya know, Konami should consider videos like these breaking down every archetype in the game, it’d be a great help for new and veteran players. When it was time to pick a bad archetype I had to wonder what could be dysfunctional enough to be a legit choice. Then I saw Magical Musket and thought “Yup, that’s a perfect choice” Hopefully one day these gunslingers get a proper means of protection and push, because they have such a great gimmick and theming. Ya know, you should consider doing commentary for MTG and/or Yu-Gi-Oh feature matches. You have a great talent for breaking things down for people, and a vast knowledge of game history for both games. Plus you have a great voice for announcing things and introducing people. On that topic, if you’re looking for Yu-Gi-Oh guests, Lampi_Ygo he’s a German commentator who does the European events. He’s done collabs with a lot of smaller UA-camrs, and he’s been quite responsive on all his social media, so he might be a good choice. YourYugiohChannel, one of the original YugiTubers from over 10 years ago has come back and he’s looking to grow his channel again, so maybe he’d come on. Side note, I hope ya don’t feel like you need to be pigeon holed into only doing this kinda content. I’ve also been checking out some of your MTG deck videos (though I’m still a total newb). I’d get more into the game, but I can barely afford to even keep playing Yu-Gi-Oh anymore (If I start dropping off from the comment section, that’s probably why).
Thanks for the response! I’d really like to get those Yugioh people on the show, thanks for the recommendations. Also, I’ve already commentated some MTG tournaments and have even commentated my own MTG tournament series, so you were right 😁
Hell yeah! Thank you, this is exactly what I was asking for! So much more interesting seeing them putting the pieces together for how the deck is supposed to function 😂
love the new concept! would love to see Alan back on the channel since he now has some knowledge of what yugioh is about, making it a little more interesting rather than just random guessing
Ngl, when you rolled up with ABC and was hyping up the final card I was slightly hoping you pulled out A-to-Z Dragon Buster Cannon but Union Hanger works too I suppose. Also here's a dumb idea but why not for the next one of these have someone rate the Ojamas, Armed Dragon, and VWXYZ only for the ultimate punchline being Armed Dragon Catapult Cannon just to see their reaction as to how this card came to be from these 3 archetypes that seemingly have nothing relating towards each other.
I am only 3 minutes in, but can already tell that he will do well the way he interprets the big texts. (and straight away understanding the loop of floowandereeze)
He is right"instant speed is pretty crazy", basically the reason YGO is as fast as it is today imo. Might wanna hold back on the beefier acmrchetyoes in the future tho, he was looking like he was aboutbtos weat a bit during the reading if the Floo cards😂😂
Lot of good stuff to say! First, using archetypes I thought would be confusing for non-players, but it worked great! Second, love the guest, he's funny, really quick at learning effects, and has great instincts. :)
Think this was a great idea. I still think it would be awesome to have them watch gameplay and for you to walk them through what is happening. Maybe for MTG players who you've featured already, particularly if they've done it recently (maybe record the gameplay reaction after having them rate cards/archetypes?)
the 5 cards from an archetype format is definitely a better version of this format than the standard random cards. I also liked one good now deck, one good before deck, and one never good deck. I look forward to seeing someone evaluate dragon rulers.
for the next iteration of this it i think it'd be a good idea to give an overview of the card to get an idea of how it would be used and iron out any possible confusion or uncertainty and then another overview of all 5 as a whole so he can have an easier time evaluating them like what you did at the end with floo telling him how its robina -> eglen -> empen -> floo spell/trap + recycle robina and eglen, would definitely make it harder and get them thinking more i think an easier explanation of 'appropriate' in union hanger's text is that its there so players cant attempt to equip just any LIGHT machine monsters like photon orbital for example with the effect of equipping itself to photon/galaxy monster and then has an effect to search out another photon/galaxy monster by sending itself to the grave while equipped to something so the restriction of not being able to summon it while equipped is pointless for it, there isnt much non-union LIGHT machine monsters that cant be equipped by this effect but its essentially a way to future proof it to pre-emptively prevent abuse wouldve been interesting to see his reaction of what the magical musketeers is based off of since its designed off of a german opera; der freischütz (the freeshooter/marksman) about a man named max who makes a deal with the devil samiel for 7 magic bullets that always hits what he wants without fail but the 7th bullet is under the devil's influence there is only 7 'magical musket' spells and traps within the archetype each representing 1 of the seven bullets and while there is 8 monsters only 7 of them hold the 'magical musketeer' title in their name and are all lvl 3-4 cept for magical musketeer max who is a link-1 with the 8th monster not being a 'magical musketeer' but the only non-musketeer monster as 'magical musket mastermind' is based off of the devil samiel himself and is lvl 8 showing how he doesnt fit into any of the pattern of the other cards and is above the influences of the thematic 7 which is ironically very fitting
It didn’t end up mattering too much with the archetypes presented, but if it ended up mattering a lot to their understanding of the archetype I’d mention it in more detail
I LOVE this concept PLEASE show them frogs and elucidate them on the terror frogs wrought for like, almost 10 years until treeborn was finally stopped in its tracks
I love this, it feels a lot less like trying to trick someone into thinking X card is good/bad and instead gives them a context and the ability to consider multiple aspects outside of "card player dumb, my game good" that videos like this normally would follow the formula of
Alongside archetypes, maybe some incredibly old decks that featured specific combos but didn’t have a specific archetype would be fun to showcase too (like the old Yata combo)
It’s be funny to do adamancipator on one of these just to fake out the guy when giving the answer by saying it’s never topped a major event… because it came out during Covid and the deck was so good that it’s main enabler was banned by the time big events came back
I love how you didn't even show the best card in the flunder deck, IMO. Nontargeting removal is so important in yugioh, and this deck has one of the only cards that allows you to do that for free multiple times per turn and even on your opponent's turn. Unexplored winds is crazy.
Tbh didnt show the best musket card either. That would have thrown him off so bad. If max was in a competent archetype it would have been banned years ago
It's so cool to see this series evolve and change as you try new things! Putting cards into more context like this is a great way to help understand what the deck is trying to do, this was a really good idea!
I love this idea way more than single cards because it actually reflects how the game is played. The only thing is, I would've shown Dreaming Town instead of Advent to give a better picture of Floo's game plan. Definitely hope to see more of this style. And if I can, I'd like to make a request (Swordsoul, Labrynth, and Ghoti)
Was kinda hoping one of the archetypes shown would have been Branded or Bystials, as Fallen of Albaz is pretty much my favorite monster (I even consider him my "Ace" monster at this point), and I love running him and his support in a hybrid deck with Blue-Eyes and with one or two DNA Surgery cards thrown in to turn the opponent's monsters into Dragons if they aren't already dragons. Managed to wipe the floor with a Blackwing player with that deck in Master Duel too, and that was before I'd even "completed" the deck and was still missing certain cards.
Would love to see you include Valkyries in this. Ride of the Valkyries and Mistress of the Time Goddess are, at least on the surface absolutely insane cards. And Dritte + Sechste are also very good in archetype so I think it would be interesting to see how a magic player would assess it.
now THIS is... well i don't want to literally repeat another comment but all the other ways of saying the same that come to mind right now sound unnecessarily rude so I'm literally just going to repeat what another comment says: "I LOVE this new spin. Looking at archetypes is more fun than single cards and is a lot better than just saying “this card is good”" also as a side note when mental saw his first union monster and said "it seems clunky", like he immediately recognized why the inherent problems with union monsters, especially after seeing the buttery smooth floo gameplan, robina get eglen, eglen get empen, summon empen
This was super cool! I am glad this stepped away from the YGO/Magic show and tell classic of just show off a few staples and be done with it, as that does get samey after a while. If you do this again, I would perhaps recommend Scareclaw, as that's a pretty simple archtype at it's core, but lets you show off Lore!Archtype stuff as well with Visas Starfrost. Vernesylph might make for a good "trick question archtype". and Eldlich would make for a nice "was once good" example.
My first first If you did cover more archetypes I think it would be interesting covering things like Runicks, Numeron, and Superheavy Samurai. Maybe also do a video covering major decks of particular formats (Goat, Edison, TOSS, etc.)
I think this spin is awesome. Like no card game is like ygo and this kind of helps break that daunting wall and shows why people play the game for these unique decks
This is a great format. I feel like this gives them a lot of the context they usually miss out on. I also love adding "was good but isn't now" as an answer, as the granularity is nice. I do feel like he needed two pieces of context on Map though, (1) that the first effect constitutes a second normal summon at sorcery speed, rather than as a trigger, and (more importantly), (2) that hard once per turns are *super* common in the game.
This is really interesting, especially as someone who hasn't followed since Yugi and Kaiba were still on TV - it helps me to get an idea of how modern decks are constructed and what their use cases are. Would love to see more!
I LOVE this new spin. Looking at archetypes is more fun than single cards and is a lot better than just saying “this card is good”
Especially since Yugioh has been 95% archetype-based for the past 15 years or so and everything kind of revolves around that.
Archetypes are still made of cards, so instead of looking at one card, you are looking at multiple cards, making it easier to understand if they are good or not
Show them Tear and watch their mind explode at how Konami could ever print such broken cards.
That gives me an idea for an archetype video where we go over the most powerful archetypes ever and the guest has to decipher which one is better
Dredge exists in Magic, realistically Tear isn't going to blow a Magic player's mind beyond what a wordy card can do already.

I thought James was gonna call Floo bad and I was ready to SCRAP!
I would never! Until they get power crept like everything else lol
tbf, You should definitely do more of this. It lets people learn to understand the modern game much better than looking at single cards. 1 suggestion tho, at the end, tell the guest the time of release for all the archetypes after they've made their guess to see if their guess changes
That’s an interesting wrinkle to it
As the other commenters have said, I think you've struck gold with this format.
I like the tier 0 joke lol. I'm happy you like the formatting!
I would have expected that showing non-Yugioh players entire archetypes would overwhelm them, but it actually made each card easier to understand because there was context. The discussion became about how the cards were used together, rather than only what the technicalities meant. Would love to see this become the default video format!
Strict yugioh player here never really played magic but I loved watching this, MentalMisplay is definitely my favourite of the guests to watch so far!
Much more interesting than the previous format, where cards were limited to generic engine cards meaning you quickly run out of staples to use for "good" cards.
Rating engines/archetypes allows the guests to review a wider variety of cards (that actually interact with other specific cards).
magical musketeer and s force where good duel links since there is less zones and that solves some of there issues
That’s fair
I love playing magical musketeers in MD, i got to plat using em
This was such a good video and the guest was awesome! Good job!
Thanks!
Thanks!! Happy you enjoyed it
"Leading or misleading questions" Farfa lmao
This format is great, adds a lot more context to the guessing... the tradeoff being that it might be overwhelming. I'd be very interested in seeing more of this
More coming!
Some archetypes to keep in mind:
Purrely: you are basically playing tamagotchi but yugioh
Superheavy samurai: needs you to not have a spell and trap card in your deck at all.
As a Floo player, so happy seeing my beloved Robina
Love the new format. I think you should've showed him floo and the unexplored winds instead of advent of adventure though, it's what makes the engine's disruption click
There is a funny archetype called Vaylantz
Its gimmick is a board-chess game inside yugioh, which means you move your monster from zone to zone to activate their effect, low level vaylantz are the pawn you use in order to make your high level vaylantz summonable like you have to move your pawn in chess to move your Queen, the deck is kinda relevant and fairly competitive in the ocg format and master duel so you have to prepare for it.
Idk any other cards so coin flip yes or no", especially since archetypes are so foundational to how people process cards a lot of the time
“A monster card is not a spell card” pendulums would beg to differ lol
🤣
and Artifacts
Or cards that equip monsters. Also the rare situations where a monster is a trap card (not to be confused with those cases where a trap is a monster)
I like this new version. Being able to get an idea of how an archetype is meant to work together is a lot more representative of modern YuGiOh than trying to evaluate random cards in a vacuum.
Very cool twist on this concept. Very bold of you to introduce this man to yugioh with Floo and Union monsters 😂
Honestly this video was pretty fun to watch because it spiced things up a bit
Thanks!!
I find it funny how he thought ABC was contemporary when it’s a retrain and expansion to one of the earlier archetypes in XYZ
yes love it! so much better with the context and synergy compared to single cards. great job my man
You could have mentioned that next to the ABC Union Machine Monster Archetype, there is also the (VW)XYZ Union Machine Monster Archetype.
Really cool seeing him break every deck down and almost get the full concept of each deck. Super smart guy!
Yea he’ killed it!
Also, I’ve already commentated some MTG tournaments and have even commentated my own MTG tournament series, so you were right 😁
I love this format more than just the 1 card guess, would really like see more of these.
I don't know how you did it, but I played against these exact 3 decks at locals today.
What the hell 🤣
Hey! I really enjoyed this spin on the format! It felt very fair, and it was fun watching him guess! Keep it up!
Thanks! Happy you enjoyed it
Hell yeah! Thank you, this is exactly what I was asking for! So much more interesting seeing them putting the pieces together for how the deck is supposed to function 😂
Were you the one that commented a while ago asking for this? If so, that’s where I got it from!
love the new concept! would love to see Alan back on the channel since he now has some knowledge of what yugioh is about, making it a little more interesting rather than just random guessing
Haha that’s a good idea
I am only 3 minutes in, but can already tell that he will do well the way he interprets the big texts. (and straight away understanding the loop of floowandereeze)
😂😂😂😂
He is right"instant speed is pretty crazy", basically the reason YGO is as fast as it is today imo.
Might wanna hold back on the beefier acmrchetyoes in the future tho, he was looking like he was aboutbtos weat a bit during the reading if the Floo cards😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
@@TheOneJameYT sorry for the typos, I hope you get the idea. It was late when I typed that
Lot of good stuff to say!
I look forward to seeing someone evaluate dragon rulers.
for the next iteration of this it i think it'd be a good idea to give an overview of the card to get an idea of how it would be used and iron out any possible confusion or uncertainty and then another overview of all 5 as a whole so he can have an easier time evaluating them like what you did at the end with floo telling him how its robina -> eglen -> empen -> floo spell/trap + recycle robina and eglen, would definitely make it harder and get them thinking more
i think an easier explanation of 'appropriate' in union hanger's text is that its there so players cant attempt to equip just any LIGHT machine monsters like photon orbital for example with the effect of equipping itself to photon/galaxy monster and then has an effect to search out another photon/galaxy monster by sending itself to the grave while equipped to something so the restriction of not being able to summon it while equipped is pointless for it, there isnt much non-union LIGHT machine monsters that cant be equipped by this effect but its essentially a way to future proof it to pre-emptively prevent abuse
wouldve been interesting to see his reaction of what the magical musketeers is based off of since its designed off of a german opera; der freischütz (the freeshooter/marksman) about a man named max who makes a deal with the devil samiel for 7 magic bullets that always hits what he wants without fail but the 7th bullet is under the devil's influence
there is only 7 'magical musket' spells and traps within the archetype each representing 1 of the seven bullets and while there is 8 monsters only 7 of them hold the 'magical musketeer' title in their name and are all lvl 3-4 cept for magical musketeer max who is a link-1 with the 8th monster not being a 'magical musketeer' but the only non-musketeer monster as 'magical musket mastermind' is based off of the devil samiel himself and is lvl 8 showing how he doesnt fit into any of the pattern of the other cards and is above the influences of the thematic 7 which is ironically very fitting
Yeah, I pretty much agree with everyone else. This is a great evolution of this video format.
Thanks!!
I can see you sneaking in Bad Reaction FTK into this format. I enjoy the videos, here's some food for the algorithm.
Don’t tempt me with a good time 😎
Love this new spin. Also we get to learn certain strategies that we might have not known like magical musketeers. Props for the new kind of content. 🎉
Yeah this is a great idea for the series, would love to see more
More to come!
I wonder if he clarifies later that "set" is facedown. (Haven't finished the video)
I really like this format, since it also gives context for making the guesses.
It’s be funny to do adamancipator on one of these just to fake out the guy when giving the answer by saying it’s never topped a major event… because it came out during Covid and the deck was so good that it’s main enabler was banned by the time big events came back
That would be so mean because it's probably one of the top 5 best decks ever printed
i've never seen someone whith no prior knowledge of Yugioh getting a grasp of what complicated cards do this fast. Really impressive
Yea he's really good at it. He's done another one on this channel also!
Great video, hope you have him on again sometime!
I agree!
Should show cute transforming cats or French pastry dolls lol
😅
I love how you didn't even show the best card in the flunder deck, IMO. Nontargeting removal is so important in yugioh, and this deck has one of the only cards that allows you to do that for free multiple times per turn and even on your opponent's turn.
Unexplored winds is crazy.
Tbh didnt show the best musket card either. That would have thrown him off so bad. If max was in a competent archetype it would have been banned years ago
It's so cool to see this series evolve and change as you try new things! Putting cards into more context like this is a great way to help understand what the deck is trying to do, this was a really good idea!
Thanks!!
3 archtypes is such a good idea for the series! Would be interesting to see what they think about an archtype like Tearlament
It seams like a missed opportunity that the ABC machine union monsters can't combine with ABC Magnet warriors.
This video format is definitely way more interesting than just showing a random card and guessing it
Would love to see you include Valkyries in this. Ride of the Valkyries and Mistress of the Time Goddess are, at least on the surface absolutely insane cards. And Dritte + Sechste are also very good in archetype so I think it would be interesting to see how a magic player would assess it.
great video as usual but im a little dissapointed you didnt show him musketeer max. hoping he appears in a video one day 😂
now THIS is... well i don't want to literally repeat another comment but all the other ways of saying the same that come to mind right now sound unnecessarily rude so I'm literally just going to repeat what another comment says: "I LOVE this new spin. Looking at archetypes is more fun than single cards and is a lot better than just saying “this card is good”"
also as a side note when mental saw his first union monster and said "it seems clunky", like he immediately recognized why the inherent problems with union monsters, especially after seeing the buttery smooth floo gameplan, robina get eglen, eglen get empen, summon empen
I’m really happy you like the new spin! We’ve had a lot of comments asking for archetypes so I figured I’d try it
This was super cool!
My first first
If you did cover more archetypes I think it would be interesting covering things like Runicks, Numeron, and Superheavy Samurai. Maybe also do a video covering major decks of particular formats (Goat, Edison, TOSS, etc.)
Seeing archetypes is a great spin to the “is it good or not” great video
I think this spin is awesome. Like no card game is like ygo and this kind of helps break that daunting wall and shows why people play the game for these unique decks
This is a great format. I feel like this gives them a lot of the context they usually miss out on. I also love adding "was good but isn't now" as an answer, as the granularity is nice.
I do feel like he needed two pieces of context on Map though, (1) that the first effect constitutes a second normal summon at sorcery speed, rather than as a trigger, and (more importantly), (2) that hard once per turns are *super* common in the game.
Also, it's interesting, I think this is the first time any of your guests seems like they would potentially consider playing the game by the end.
From what little I know of Yugioh, it seems like any strategy that doesn't instantly win the game for you is competitively unplayable.
This was super fun. Much better than the single card version - since yugioh at its core is rarely about single good cards
I agree!
Sometimes I hate archtypes and sometimes I just love them. My fav. is still Weather painters, kust because it's just so unique
This is really interesting, especially as someone who hasn't followed since Yugi and Kaiba were still on TV - it helps me to get an idea of how modern decks are constructed and what their use cases are. Would love to see more!
More on the way!
