Mighty Mite does make some fretless necks with phenolic fingerboards. My friend and mentor swears by them. They never wear. I suppose the big thing is having a real-wood substitute for ebony. Looking like it has similar grain, and actually being real wood -- all part of the aesthetic. I will say too, as someone who does guitar work. "Obsidian Ebony" just sounds awesome. There's a lot to names. Obsidian Ebony Fingerboard just sounds great. I want one already! Would actually love to see a one-piece neck made out of this stuff. Now that would be cool. Nobody does that with ebony because it's so expensive. Closest would be another kind of dark wood, maybe wenge, but nothing comes close to ebony. Another cool possibility would be back and sides on an acoustic, or even a top. There's just something to natural wood, the look and feel of it, that can't be replicated. Anyway, off to dream about what could be made with this stuff. My first project with it will be a fretless fingerboard. I have a feeling this will look, feel, and sound great.
Nice 👍🏻
Wanted to make same by itself for stable fretboard, but there is already ready solution. Thanks for telling about! 🙌🏻👌🏻🤝🏻☀️🌿
