    The one getting a new engine at 13:26 I would honestly decline to even do the repair. I’d tell the customer “look your entire undercarriage is rotted and this car shouldn’t even be on the road now let alone in a year from now. If you wanna find another shop to take your money then fine but I won’t even put my name and/or business name anywhere near this. I can’t I’m good conscience take your money on this”

    I work in a motorcycle repair shop an it amazes me how people can come in with brakes that are worn beyond medal to medal, as in worn into the cups. When ask if they notice anything unusual when braking, they will just no they were working fine , then my brakes "just quit working".

      Is it more on certain types of bikes? I would think it would be more cruiser riders, just a feeling i have. What about drum brakes? My kymco spade has a rear drum but i barely use the rear brake. I dont imagine most people remove the drums for inspection unless they have an issue with them.

    • @jackiebishop9574
      @jackiebishop9574 Рік тому +6

      @@connor3288 That is not the point. No matter what vehicle you drive you need to inspect your vehicles brakes, oil etc on routine bases, if you are unable to do it yourself, then take into a shop. If you can not do that, then don't drive. If you apply your brakes and you feel a grinding sensation or they stop working it is beyond way to late. On a side note drum brakes wear out less often than disc brakes. Also a lot cars, trucks have what is call a squealer on the brakes to warn when getting down needing them replaced. Normal scooter and motorcycle riders use more front brake than rear.

    I grew up poor. So I learned how to fix my own cars. I'm still poor. So I don't take care of my car like I know I should. But I know the difference between potentially damaging my car by not properly maintaining it, and ignoring things that are potentially dangerous. Any mechanic would look at my 26 year old car and tell me that it needs a lot of work. But they would also tell me that it's not dangerous to drive. In the long run it's most likely gonna cost me more than if I fixed everything now. But I can't afford to fix everything at once. So I fix what is necessary and keep an eye on the rest.
    It's not the end of the world to not fix everything immediately. If you know how cars work and you understand what is safe and what is not.
    If you don't understand cars, find a mechanic you can trust and listen to them.
    A good mechanic will tell you the truth and not sell you things you don't need.
    NEVER GO TO THE DEALERSHIP!!! Unless your car is under warranty and you don't have to pay for anything.

      I would refuse that job. It has a low key feel of blame the shop for anything after the Engine is replaced. Also I take some pride in my work, and putting an engine in that rust bucket, damn, there are actual people working on that, if it was a robot who did it go for it. Also I have sent cars to the scrap yard with way less rust than that.
      The only way i see it is, get a professional shop to cut out and weld the whole floor/frame in pristine condition and then undercoat the vehicle. Then there is no problem to replace the engine. Might cost over 10 000 dollars, it might not even be legal. What a disaster.

      It is possible had a 2000 golf 4 1.9 tdi 350k km on clock with rod sticking out of a side of engine (main shaft bearing faild probably because client lived in mountains and have had few broken oil pans) still drove just a bit rough, since we repaired rust on it few years prior we swapped it with another one, fiat doblo 1.6 or something diesel 2012 150k km on clock had main shaft bearings in oil pan and was still driving kinda, but we cant find engine for it because it has to be exact mach, not like golf one, which was changed with 10hp higher version and now it has better fuel economy because we didnt cahange the computer or programmed it, it is also les powerful, but they prefer that.

    Subbed. Now to upset some US folks. This is what happens when you don't require mechanical inspections to register a car to drive on the road.
    Some states in Australia require yearly mechanical inspections before you can continue driving. In most places in Australia, you have to have a Roadworthy Inspection done before registering a vehicle, and they can be pretty strict. You be failed for sagging roof lining, or no interior light. You can even fail if the vehicle has surface rust.
    However, I lived in a remote area of Australia some years ago and due to the condition of the roads/tracks in that area, so long as your brakes, lights, and other essential, safety-related things worked, you could register the vehicle. You didn't need an official Roadworthy Certificate.

    • @alexthekid1726
      @alexthekid1726 Рік тому +1

      Many states in the US have a yearly inspection. None that strict though. AFAIK every state has inspections on cars that come out of a salvage title.

    • @BradGryphonn
      @BradGryphonn Рік тому +1

      @@alexthekid1726 Ah, okay. It seems that a lot of US states are pretty relaxed with respect to modifications (other than California from what I've heard). Our car enthusiasts are restricted with mods due to some really strict rules. We mod cars but many people get put off the road due to stupid rules. Some states (including the one I live in) have different rules. If you register a car with a roadworthy, so long as you renew the rego each year (about 700+ dollars a year), a roadworthy isn't necessary, unless you decide to sell it. There are roadside checks sometimes but there are still a lot of rust buckets on the road that haven't been checked in years, as well as others that are loved and maintained. It's the same for modified cars. Some people do really dodgy lowering or lifting mods, making the vehicle unsafe, whereas others modify with engineering in mind. And they can be put off the road for silly things like how low the car is, or how wide the tyres are without considering the possible improvements in safety or reliability.
