Oilers proved some serious depth and tenacity. Skinner played his best game of the playoffs so far imo. This series is going to be a war.

In the last four games the Oilers have scored 12 out of their 13 goals even strength.
They had to tonight. Dallas only has one penalty and that was a bench minor. EDM had 4 (including a dbl on McDavid). That also means Dallas went 0/4 on the PP.

As a goalie, I'm LOVING the playoffs this year. All the goalies have been phenomenal... Silovs, Bobrovsky, Shesterkin, Swayman, Ottinger, Skinner... they're all playing fantastic hockey, making incredible save after incredible save.

@@zzz7zzz9 Usually it is McDavid drawing players to him and leaving someone else, like Draisaitl all alone. That was a big part of the Canuck's series. McDavid didn't get a lot of goals because of it, but got a lot of assists.
@@jsquared1013 there were a couple of really dopey defensive lapses by the Stars that cost them. The second Oilers goal is entirely #14's responsibility.
Nothing more satisfying than a road multiple OT goal.

10mins of penalty’s against the oilers and 2mins to Dallas and that was because it was too many men and had to be called. Dallas didn’t make a single infraction against the oilers all game?! Bs. For 12% of this game the oilers were on the kill and still came out with the win. Incredible

Looking at the stats throughout the year it is very clear that the Oilers have just as much depth as the Stars and it was proven tonight. Playoffs always come down to your star players; Draisaitl, Hymen and McDavid all come through for the Oilers and Skinner played amazing! This will be a great series! Go Oilers!
Roope Hintz is out and the Stars have like eight 20-goal scorers. Edmonton is a 1 line team that got extremely lucky.

What a great effort by Edmonton especially after dropping a 2-0 lead and taking that 4 minute double minor in OT. Skinner played very well and held them in the game when they needed him most, McDavid also made up for his missed chance by getting the OT winner which is nice to see. Let's see if they can carry this momentum to game 2.
If Oilers play like this throughout the series and Skinner stands tall like (tonight) they can get it done, just gotta clean up those turnovers. LFG boys 💙🧡

Great stuff. As a Maple Leaf fan, it's amazing to see the Oilers stars come through in the playoffs and score goals when the pressure is on. The Leafs have been incapable of doing this for many years. And the Oilers best player and captain scores in double OT. Solid.

Listened to the live audio of this, came here just to see that final shot.
Lots of weird referee calls (and missed calls) that game, especially the one called out by the lineman after the fact; otherwise a fantastic front from both sides and some terrific plays around the net.
What a solid start to Conference finals, really nice playoff game. Keep in mind Stars had only 1 penalty this game.
The only other one I thought was enough to call was the slash to 55's arm on the late breakaway.

The Oilers need to learn how to hold leads in regulation time, but WHAT A WIN!!!! LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!! The captain got his redemption, baby! What an incredible pass onto his tape from Bouch as well. For the most part, boys played fantastic against an experienced and dangerous Stars team. Lots of good defensive plays, lots of determination, and a newly confident Skinner being a brick wall in that net! Our penalty kill is also simply incredible, they were a massive reason why we won this game! That's the way to kick off a series in enemy territory, baby!! Stealing one in their barn! LET'S GOOOOOOO OILERS!!! WE WANT THE CUP!!!

In the regular season they tried not to overplay him and give him rest. They should do the same in the playoffs....Starting the same goalie EVERY game was Woodcroft's biggest playoff mistake.

Recognizing I'm biased, and also recognizing that both were relatively gentle one-handed whacks, but how does Dallas get away with slashes on both of Edmonton's breakaways in this highlight package? The one on Foegele definitely threw off his rhythm.
Just a great classic. We saw everything. Very close. Very close. Could have gone either way. The story was 5 PKs and a few goal posts.

Welcome to Gary Bettman's NHL. It is the same for Canadian teams every year and it is plain to see - this is coming from a European perspective btw.
High stick on Hughes gets no call and no review. High stick against Dallas gets no call, but a review and a retroactive call. Clear that certain teams get different standards.

second goal on otter was a fluke and dallas hit 2 posts on one pp in overtime. Dallas is going to dominate the rest of this series. Edmonton couldn't have gotten any luckier than last night and could barely squeek out a win. Enjoy this one while it lasts like Colorado and Vegas did.

When I watched the Dallas/Colorado series, I thought that these two teams weren’t THAT good, and that The Oilers could beat either one of them. This first game with Dallas is starting to confirm my belief.

EDIT : there's a shot in the replays from McDavid's left side, that's looking straight across the net, and the D-Man is no where near him to stop his stick.. McDavid just absolutely dropped the ball on that.. it should have gone in (he had a wide open net)

It was pretty evenly matched this one, skinner played great, so did Ottenger. Oilers did the right thing and took the lead early instead of chasing the stars. Only game 1 but it was a great game from start to finish. Both teams were even in the 1st, oilers a little better in the 2nd and the 3rd the stars were better. This will be a razor tight series. Stars might be a little rusty as they improved as the game went on. Game 2 will be really interesting
The Oilers beat Dallas AND the refs tonight.
Dallas had 5 PP (Two in OT)... compared to the 1 PP Oilers had all night.
Ya its crazy to me considering Dallas chased a lot of the 2nd and 3rd yet Edmonton got the penalties. Thats sketchy.
