Joy and passion and love is what Grace is all about. From day one on AGT to her latest song and all her live performances. There is no doubt she poured her heart and soul into the role, and when Grace does that it's always gonna be special, and emotional, and beautiful. Great job Grace!! Thank you again Kelly - you ROCK!
One of my favorite movies in the 60's was Pollyanna with Hailey Mills in the starring role. Grace has that same sweet heart that Hailey had. She was Disney's high profile actress back then, Grace has that same quality. I think she would have been great in the remaking of Pollyanna. Thanks Kelly for this great interview!!
This was a much nicer experience than the earlier interview with Grace which seemed like it was just a commercial for disney+ rather than an interview with the stars of the movie.
Kelly No need to apologize. Anyone who has a brain will understand the circumstances of the recording as that from a member of the audience and not some studio or set production. Many thanks for recording and posting all these videos for the benefits of all those who were not able to be at these events. Effort is greatly appreciated.
The parallels between Grace and Stargirl are so profound that one would swear that Grace had read the book and modeled her life on it---or, vice versa, that the book was actually based on the character of Grace VanderWaal. Of course, the latter alternative would not have been possible, given that it was written before Grace was born. As for the other alternative, Grace hadn't read the book until she was in the middle of her AGT experience, and her character had already been well-established. Funny, but there was a video, taken by her mom when they were in LA for AGT, where they had gone to a Barnes & Noble to buy the book. Turned out that it was out of stock, but some thoughtful fan (?) got a copy to her the very next day. There's a photo of her reading it while still in LA. I've always wondered if it were a fan---or someone at Disney---who made sure she had the book.
@@miakamiya6825 Thank you for that, Mia. You're absolutely correct. How do I know? Because that 'author's friend' was your truly. And though author Spinelli and I had frequently discussed via emails how Grace would make the perfect Stargirl, I certainly had/have no connection to that studio. Here's the column I had written for The VanderVault last last year. vandervault.org/2018/12/08/stargirl-in-search-of-grace/
@@nycmusicguy Thanks for that info. The reasons I had suspected a Disney connection early on was that, prior to getting the book, Grace had visited Disney Radio or Studios and, not long afterwards, said (not mentioning any names) that she had been offered some movie roles, but was waiting for the right one. Well, my overactive imagination started connecting dots. I may have been off on my time frames. Anyway, I think this is how conspiracy theories get started, LOL.
@@nycmusicguy BTW, that was a nice article you wrote for VanderVault. I once wrote a comment myself that Grace's story is almost otherworldy. I called her a "nexus." My first point was that certain rare people come along now and then who make huge changes in the world. For good or ill, such a person, having just the right kind of personality, character, and talent, appears at just the right time and place to make a huge impact on people. I said that Grace was such a person, that she was a "nexus" of all those qualities and circumstances that will make her very important. I'm not a religious person and prefer to chalk up this phenomenon to historical coincidence, explainable with reference to probability theory. Nevertheless, such things do have a mystical flavor, and, indeed, Grace VanderWaal does seem mystical in her appeal. Unless something unforeseen happens, Grace will become a major force in the world.
Thanks Kelly for getting this! That was amazing to hear how it all happened. What we thought was right. They couldn't ignore the fact Grace was meant to be Stargirl. There was no other option.
And here is an almost unheard of thing thing,. Anyone would have jumped to be considered for the role (some 700 girls actually were vying for it) but GV was actually hesitant and needed convincing, that surely must say a ton about her been so grounded and humble.
@@QuahChoonHuat As a child, Grace had said she wanted to act, in fact she did some plays as well as singing. I think once she found out she could write music from her heart that touched the hearts of others, she really committed to her music. We're so grateful that she made that choice, and while she may act again, it's good to hear her say that music is her passion - her music is OUR passion!
first off thank you thank you thank you for posting this!! Grace is such a wonderful person so smart and real and genuine! I cant wait to see her in star girl! she fits the part so well yet she's her own unique person. Go Grace
I cried while watching this 😭 tears of happiness to be specific! As a Grace follower I am so happy to see her here where she is today! Its amazing 15 and has already done lots of stuff! This is pushing me to open doors to new things and to stop procrastinating. I am 2 years older than her and I still haven't done that much 😂
@@WarrenPDavis Yes, why are they not showing a little clip of the show? I was expecting to see Grace walking into the lunch room for the first time at school.
And to think Grace actually said "I don't think I'm actually a very good actress".(at the Starlight(?) room when she was taking questions from the audience) But of course, her modesty is one of her most endearing qualities. Graham Verchere said that Grace is the most talented person he's ever worked with because from day one you'd never know she'd never acted before.
If there was ever a story written about fate, I truly believe that it would be Grace's incredible story! The amazing similarlites between her own story and that of Star Girl's is breathtakingly uncanny. To get an idea, watch her interview with Zack Sang, where she goes into some detail about how she began her music/song writing career. It will knock your socks off as she explains how a series of events brought her to AGT and then to become Star Girl!!! It is as if when she was born, her life was already written in the stars and no other course of life would have made a difference, simply said, it was all meant to be!!!
There's another story also about the author of Stargirl Jerry Spinelli , his friend and business associate seeing Grace on AGT calling each other saying , did you see that girl with the uke. Their conversation was about the future movie Stargirl 2 yr before the production and how Grace would be the right age by then could possibly be the girl for the part in the condition she can act and is still singing. The friend is the one who saw Tina's live of Grace and her trying to get the Stargirl book and when the store didn't have it , they overnight ship them copies and there's that pic with olivia holding the Stargirl book while a couple of them hugged Grace after she won Agt.
Love the elegant dress and strawberry sneakers. Grace shines like an angel in ANY setting. "How many of you have actually READ Stargirl?" Half of them raise their hands because they read it AFTER they found out Grace was going to be in it. Haha!
I cannot wait for this film! I grew up on Jerry Spinelli's novels and "Stargirl" is my favorite. A film adaptation is LONG OVERDUE and I think Grace is going to do a great job as Stargirl.
Boy, I'd really like to see that audition tape if the reaction to it was that strong and positive. I mean, Disney execs gambled on a girl who had never acted before in a film they were using to launch their new channel. But, yes, reading the book I couldn't believe he didn't base the character on Grace. The second book, Love Stargirl, is really good too; I know Grace is on the fence about acting but no way she turns it down if they offer her the role again.
I know the movie will be great. The book is written like it was based on Grace's life. But it was published before she was even born. After making us wait for a year, why are they not showing at least a little clip of the show? I was expecting to see Grace walking into the lunch room for the first time at school.
Google had two still clips yesterday, she was in the desert with Verchere her costar, and one with her with a white mouse on her shoulder with flowers in her hair.
If there is another movie, hard to believe Grace would turn it down. Also, her agent must be salivating at the prospect; everyone has said Grace IS Stargirl. Though Grace is very pure; she doesn't do things for financial purposes or because she wants to be a movie star. But if there is another movie I hope Grace does it.

Sorry, no reflection on the artists/actors, but I don't think it's just chance that the Star behind them is set upside down. The right way up with point upward, is the natural way because it represents the human being with arms and legs stretched out. Our Grace is the right way up, the natural way, not an inverted/upside down satanic symbol.
Not leaning, upside down. Everyone knows intuitively the right way up Star represents victory, success and the highest symbol of positivity. Did you have something to do with it?
Incredible, Grace is unbelievable, 15yrs.old and smarter than most people, i'm still in awe of this prodigy.
Genuine, smart, eloquent. Amazing Grace. The chemistry between Grace and Julia was palpable. Thanks Kelly.

This the first time for me where they did almost 2 years of promotion for a film and it's great that they are using Grace for that role
I’m crying. This book saved me in high school. So happy to see it’s got Grace as the main girl! She’s a perfect Stargirl ✨🤗💕

It's like Jerry wrote the story and Grace just born to live it in the real world. Coincidence ??
