    The shop manual actually says to cut the intake gaskets. Figured I'd consult you tube just to be sure. Thanks for the verification.

    This will work on the 3.1, and 3.4 as well

    So no issues whatsoever after this ?
    I'm doing this on my 85 S10 2.8 carb cause it was mixing coolant and oil and long story short it is the intake that was doin it but I was just curious about the copper stuff and if I should add any RTV just a tad on the coolant jacket areas ?
    Just trying to up my chances like over kill to make sure it seals for a long while lol

    Great tip brudda! I just got an 87 Maro with this tiny 2.8 eng. It was locked up but after I got it unlocked it started right up but dies? I have new injectors for it and have determined that as my first
    line of correcting this dying issue. I have hopes that this little eng. with 55k orig. mi. will be okay! Thanks for your knowledge and I also use the Copper Kote esp. on head gskts!

      Fuel pump, fuel pump relay. Or it could be the ecm. Especially with the age its most likely those things

      @@YungEagle3k thank you Jacob. I have replaced the fuel tank,pump,filter,pressure regulator. Yesterday I decided to look at the distributor. Whew it’s components were most definitely oem. I repl. cap, rotor and module. I have 45 psi steady and it holds. Dropped 5 psi in an hour. I ordered a new distributor $65. I should have done that instead of more than 65 in the components lol.
      Well I am going to see if the distributor does it before trying the new injectors and ecm. The pick up reluctor was really nasty I blew it out in there really good but it might not be sending the signal to the ecm?
      Thank you I will post my findings!

      @@cockasorrus7475 if it still doesn't run after that then it could definitely be that ecm, that was my problem with my 2.8. Good luck

      @@YungEagle3k okay finally got the 87 Maro running about a week ago!!
      I changed the injectors and they were nasty. Car hadn’t ran in probably 20 years. It has 55k original miles. Engine was seized. I made a plate with a snout I welded to the plate. 1 1/4 sq. tubing. Just something to get a pipe wrench on. It turned over fairly quickly with the PW! I had put a new tank and fuel pump w/sender stand.
      Thank you again for your help!

    now to do the intake gaskets, do you have to remove the distributor to pull the intake? got an 86 comanche that needs them done and im trying to do my homework

    Nice tip. Do you have to remove the distributor in order to remove the intake manifold? I have a 89 s10 with an oil leak on the rear side runs down the back on the engine. Could it be the distributor "O-ring"? How can I tell? Any advice would be great!! Thank you!!

      I'm basically having this issue with my 92, but my distributor was put in within a year, so I'm pretty sure it's these gaskets.

    I've got a 88 S10 with a 2.8 V6 in it.. if I remember right the intake gaskets were flat,.. just like the small block Chevy 327 or 350.. don't remember having to cut them or mess with the valve push rods.. just sayin' lol

      You must have had the Chev 4.3L V 6, All 2.8 L are exactly like the one in the video! Just Sayin! The 4.3 was introduced in 1980. by Chevrolet it is exactly like a 5.7 L, minus 2 cylinders, very reliable!

    Compression test is good but I have a steady stream of white smoking coming out of the tail pipe, smells sweet. engine oil looks great. Can the intake manifold gasket cause this condition?

    I mean it gives you a chance to relash valves and stuff. takes literally 30 minutes, so I dont see what the problem is.
    id rather relash valves once instead of replace a gasket set 3 times. but thats just me

    Question. How would you go about adjusting the valves on one of these engines? I'm in the middle of an overhaul on one of these engines for a '87 s10 and discovered the valve adjustment procedure makes no sense. Says to rotate engine ro #1 tdc, then adjust the intake valves 1, 5 and 6. Number 6 intake is at the top of its lift. Rest of the procedure shows similar errors. i would just adjust it while running but these engine sling so much oil, it would all be on the driveway before im done.

    • @A1phanum3ric69
      @A1phanum3ric69  7 років тому

      must be a type error lol

    • @giberish9
      @giberish9 7 років тому

      A1phanum3ric69 yep. surprised it hasn't been corrected. guessing I'll just have to rotate engine till lifter is sitting on the base circle of the cam to adjust. It's a new cam and afraid of wiping lobes again. Amazing only info I can really find online for valve adjustment is turn 3/4 past 0 lash. Oh well. Any suggestions for the timing cover gasket? Looks like it can be put on dry, but the coolant passages make me think I should use some black rtv on the timing cover. Most of the old gasket stuck to the block. when I took it apart.

    • @A1phanum3ric69
      @A1phanum3ric69  7 років тому

      giberish9 yea you want to remove ll thw old gasket off the timing cover and the block and some good ol RTV you will feel reassured it wont leak and if you ever take it apart clean up will be lot easier As far as valve adjustgo to autozone.com create an account and you can use their online repair manuals I believe they have the valve adjustment there. Good luck! Keep me posted.

    Don't cut it. You're asking for trouble. I'm on my 3rd gasket (counting original) on this engine. Don't cut it, just get a tool to lift the rocker arms, they're like $40.

    • @A1phanum3ric69
      @A1phanum3ric69  10 років тому +1

      Why ar you on your 3rd gasket? The one you see in the video now has 2000 mi since it was installed and still holding strong. had an oil leak in the rear of the motor but it was the distributor O ring Ive done about 100 of these and havent had a problem yet

    • @nUltimation
      @nUltimation 10 років тому

      Well, I'm glad it's worked out for you, but that still scares me. Mine blew after about 10k miles. Could just be the engine though, you know running hot in a corner or something, it's the 3.4 version of the same block. I've read lots of gasket stories on it. :)

    • @A1phanum3ric69
      @A1phanum3ric69  10 років тому

      Standard Excellence Thanks for the comments.. To ease your fear about cutting them here's some physics that apply gasket surfaces clean and free of all oil, gasket in place, manif on and tourked, think about it. :) The gasket will not move unless bolts come loose or gaskets have a lot of miles or overheating that can happen even if you dont cut them. In your case its possible manif is warped in which case doesnt matter what you do with the gasket. Really cutting the top hasnt failed yet done over 100 gotta make sure you cut the correct tabs and make shure the plastic dowel pin that comes on the gasket is pressed fully into the dowel hole..
