Don’t Wanna Be The One - Lyrics
I'm an innocent victim, I'm just like you
We end up in home units with a brick wall view
I can't believe the perfect families on my colour TV
If I don't make it to the top it'll never bother me
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
I'm an innocent bystander caught in the path
Waiting out the back while the corporate attack
Assaults the senses with relentless scenes of passion and delight
I cut up all the options and went running for my life
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
And I don't wanna be the one
Not now, not there
I'm never never gonna be the one
I'm never never gonna be the one
I'm never never gonna be the one
I'm never never gonna be the one
I don't wanna be the one
My oh my oh oh

Peter was such a crazy bugger. Gotta love him 👽
You can't fault Garrett as a front man. Conviction, presence and energy. Great band.
40 years on and still as relevant as it was way back then.
Midnight Oil is such a brilliant and unique band. We tried with my friend from R&O to review their great song "My Country". Maybe we succeeded, maybe not, we let you be the judge ua-cam.com/video/2qVapngKZfw/v-deo.html
He still looks the same in 2022!
I believe I was there but those days were a blur outa control as most were
Before he went woke
Age 18 in the US I first heard about The Oils from a college room mate. They were kind of an "underground" obscure antipodean thing back then, which to me made them only the more intriguing. So after graduation I flew to Australia and saw them and other Aussie bands of the 80s and became a true believer. Fast forward 40 years and their songs and concert footage still gets the heart pumping like nothing else.
When Australians used to be happy and have no resections on their lives - happy Australia Day from Milwaukee from an ex Aussie
Resections?
@@michaelvickers4437 sorry restrictions - I had had a few mate
I couldn’t agree more mate .. I’m 56 these were better times undoubtedly 👍
No sniffer dogs!!!
Good times!!@
Yer what happened.the government become gestapo.thats what
Now this is the Power & the Passion !!! Ohh we've gone backwards, notice how with no phones, people are experiencing this in the moment, not recording it for the future, No wankers in Hi VIS telling people to calm down & behave, No aggro, nothing but a good crowd gettin off on Great music out in the open, I wonder if those PA stacks would be allowed today, possibly too Loud by OH&S standards mmmmmmmmmmmmm !!! Thanks for all the memories of Awesome gigs, concerts & activism OOOOOOOOOOIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLSSSSS
Still listening in 2019, wish he kept going
YEP BILL SO RIGHT..all smokers and stoners having a good time
@@terryharrison6727 Their best album!!! imo And then they got all famous.(and wanky woke) and killed the vibe. ""Sails"" was pretty grouse.nonetheless.
Unbeatable ''live'', even if they did Wiggles covers they'd killit.
I didn’t hear about Midnight Oil but after 6 years later. One ☝️ of my best favorite rock bands!. 🎸😊❤️🇦🇺
1:15 sliding in to pickup a fallen mic stand, the roadies are just as high energy and passionate as the band itself... that's dedication!
hi, sure he didnt slip on the wet stage?😅
I love how Peter is dancing during the awesome bridge. 🎶 🖤
Man I can't stop watching this oils gig, Peter Garrett always has the best message and most passionate performances, man what a bloody legend mate! M.O. forever!!!!
hi, me too. love this. have had it on loop.
Rob Hirst...hardest hitting drummer in Rock History.
The kid from silver chair could smash em as well
After Les Binks and Phil Rudd .
No the drummer from faith no more and the tea party hardest I have ever seen
Look at that crowd go!
Big Pete was ripped back then. I suppose dancing like a lunatic is great exercise. They went hard back in the day.
he could pull massive party cones in 1 hit, no sweat, a very fit bugga
I knew him when he blowed dried his hair
I didn't know Peter. But I lived next door to Chris Gifford, brother of former band member Pete Gifford. Had many a piss up at their place.
Big Pete was on the shit
2 minutes 46 of great memories and pure energy. I feel like I can take on the world after watching that!!
Mate, I know what ya mean, I feel so positive watching this tons of times, motivates the hell out of me, and I wanna seriously dance like Garrett everywhere I go!
One of their more underrated songs probably. Always a fave for me
The first Midnight Oil song I ever heard. I was 12 or 13 at the time. I'm now 51 and currently sitting by the Brisbane River watching live versions of it on YT. Same electrifying feeling! If I had to name a favourite song, this is probably it.
@@Isabelnolonger remember when my cousin recorded it onto a cassette about 1985
@@mickguy3202 Was it the first time you heard this band? I found it a transformational experience. I still have the album! Played it last year on a record player I was gifted. Problem is you cant jump around on wooden floors without it skipping!
Place without a postcard, Quintessential Australian Album/Storybook...
had this clip on loop 4 months
What an insane performance. ROCK N ROLL!!!🤘
These were great concerts so many of us had little cash to splash found memories!
Amazing, Pete's dancing, Wow. Them were the days!!!!
From Paris after the fabulous concert @2019!
thank you Midnight oil:
True humanists
True punks
True Humans!
Hall of Fame musicians... global superstars. The best.
Rob Hurst what a powerful and severely talented drummer he is.
Hectic, just hectic. Got into them in 1977 and went to the first of many many Oils gigs in the late 70s and early 80s. Saw them in 2017 too which was awesome and due to see them in 2022 like 42 years since I first heard them. My favourite live band. Hectic.
Absolute genius! No one like Peter before or after. And checkout the speaker stack for that tight concert at the beach, friggin amazing! Sorry i missed it in person.
That's okay, I'm sorry for being born in 2000's haha
This is why I love the oils
I was 15 and was there, saw em like 5 times over the years
The 80s and 90s mustve craaazy times for concerts, would've loooooved to experience that kind of energy, too bad I was born just too late, oils forever
Funny how the memory plays 'tricks' on you.
I thought that "Don't Wanna Be The One' was a Top 5 Chart hit.
I checked with Wiki which tells me it only peaked at #40.
To me it will always be a #1 hit song.
Wow what an Aussie classic👌
Now that is a live band
Thats the power of music right there!
The Oils are LEGENDS, awesome Live! The negative comments are from people whom do not like Peter, because he was a Politician trying to help the environment, but some, very unfortunately passed away under the hurried insulation scheme)-: Thanks for all the music and years of service though. Long live MUSIC, especially LIVE (-: Politician by Jack Bruce and Rory G is an awesome example (-;
God... do we have to mention that? This is what happens when good people, who are not career politicians, get involved in politics. They can be very easily made scapegoats by the ruthless.
@@peteb1206 Absolutely. You don't even want to start me on that debacle. Way worse has happened. An entire state was put in the dark. Don't remember anyone getting the sack on that occasion.
@@peteb1206 - That is a risk some find worth taking. It also should be a reminder that being eager to change things doesn't mean assuming it is possible to accomplish anything big without some negatives. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. I am not saying the lives lost were an acceptable cost, but I am saying failure to move forward through "paralysis through analysis" will get you nothing. You move forward with incomplete information and imperfect plans and hope for the best.
Fucken great crowd!!!
The oils on fire 🔥.

Hard to label the rock / punk more important than that we should have listened to the to him
YOU ARE THE ONE HA HA HA one awesome Australian Band of Music men MIDNIGHT OIL.
Such a fun band saw them live in south Africa 1995 They don't allow anyone to introduce them on stage they just get on and do their thing
who's here because The Oils are the best live band who ever did it
Great front man there. I love that early Aussie music era when the bands were all starting out to make a name for themselves...INXS, Icehouse, The Oils...it was set to be a great era for music...shame I was a kid in the UK and only heard of these bands in my later teens. I feel I missed out on so much else going on in the world.
The First Oil's song I ever heard and still the BEST xxxxx
Hell yes!!! No tubbers and NO DAMN CELL PHONES!!! FULL BLOWN EXERCISE! Thats all you need.
Seen them live at Cooge Bay hotel. A great live band
Deadly Bruzz!!!.
HA just found this .... was there...insanely off my face.
Quintessential Aussie band
What a cool Frontman with a great Band....very charismatic. He lives the music......
Legends
this is great, Raw live ... Love it....
REAL MUSIC
Catchy tune.
Oh yeah I remember these days, back in simpler days.
I was prob at this
Seen em so many times pubs clubs concerts over many years even b4 famous especially b4 fame
Pumped for the new music and tour Midnight Oil, hope some songs rock the piss poor establishment
fucking hell… they were incredible. i’ve never seen this before. AC/DC & Midnight Oil. DONE
impeccable show!
Summer 1984. Portalington Victoira. Support band = Painters and Dockers... Maybe the best concerts of my life!!!!
Classic Oils love it ❤️
So wish I was there right now in that crowd. I so don't want to be the one in covid 2021. So fucking over it. My life in 1982 at the age of 12 was so much better without social media and Midnight Oil was with any doubt my favourite band
Kimmy like you I was in Y7.
,my favourite live Band
if this is the concert i remember they had to struggle through some heavy rain - they were still way better than INXS
How crazy was this !
I woke up ta watch this legend at 3:28 am, couldn't help myself
Have a go at the zombie in the grey blanket at 1:30 LOL!
hahaha gold
Trippin' balls and probably naked. Fuck knows what he's seeing, but he's having a kickass afternoon by any standard.
trippin
I bet that dude could clear a mosh pit. If I saw him coming, I'm running!
LoL. Pete is one of a kind! My high school band. Their bass player just died of cancer y'day. Crap news.
Saw them in october 82 in london. they were supporting stiff little fingers! crowd around 400 people :D
Was that at Hammersmith Odeon
@@jumbo6009 i guess so.. i think it was on the 7th of october thursday
Legends !! Thank you

The roadie anticipated the mic stand fall and rushed in to remove the stand once it fell. Putting his life on the line.
What a hero 😂
Oh Wanda..the place that once had beautiful sand dunes :(
There's a lovely housing development there now tho . . .
Oh no..really.....didnt know that.how sad..They say thats progress!!!!
Amazing live performance of this in the 1984 movie thats showing
THE WORLD NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY MIDNIGHT OIL!!! DONT EVER STOP MAKING MUSIC!!! PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING IS WRONG!!! THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF EVIL PEOPLE, PEOPLE WHO DO EVIL THINGS, AND PEOPLE WHO SEE EVIL THINGS BEING DONE AND DONT TRY TO STOP IT. PLEASE NEVER STOP MAKING MUSIC!!!!
Check the surfboard in the back... Wicked!!!
See the bloke standing with a blanket around him lol
WOW!
Peter Garrett doesn’t age he looks the same, timeless...
Wow, it was Woodstock over there. What an excellent high quality gem ! 40 years seems like nothing. How about 40 more ?
We were there
Christ, PG was fit and intense in those days. Imagine if he'd taken meth in '81. He'd have ripped a hole in space/time.
Midnight Oil don't need Meth or any other crutch. They are the real deal.
Concerts look the same as they have for thirty years
Thank you
This + the b52s would have been sick
Weren't we daggs lol. Cronulla is so cafe latte now. Miss those times.
Peter "Punkin Out" like a beast!
Good days.
Great Drummer.......
Rob Hirst is da-man !
It's hard to believe that Peter Garrett turns 70 in a month.
Wow insane 😅 is he Singer or Actress! What a crazy Show but cool 😎
Classic!!!! Amazingly classic, sad part is that the last 20 years we seen nothing but bullshit from the near generation and we still go back to the past whenever was simply classic, well today everything is sh*t and it's hard to listen music of this generation no cause no direction but nothing more than doing anything for money to sell there souls.
"No live classic and greatness"
I was there... off my face... now I'm a CEO!
Haha, then again gen x have made things a shitshow, under the radar. 2:46
Have no fear. Gen-X is here.
Oil peak
2:16 hold on tight!
My teenage hero worship band...I'm 52 now...
51... and same.
59
Peter Garrett, otherwise known as the towering maniac. This guy is a thing for himself. :)
I don't wanna be the one.
Fuck Giffo was an absolute beast!
Good 🎶🎵🎶
They were from manly. But they had a Cronulla sound.
Holy shit this would have fit in perfectly with "Urgh! a Music War".
Now this was Cronulla going off
Peter would have been lethal in a mosh pit.
Fit man who danced like dervish.
It’s hard reconciling Pete was Kevin Rudy’s best mate in University
Pissing down rain with the water all over the stage and amps, and the band and roadies scared of being electrocuted . No problem.
