Your Dad was a wise man Jo yes id agree more nettles the better to keep folk away from the fence and walls. People are so rude these days they insist on the right to roam but have no idea of the country code or how to follow a foot path. You work so hard keeping your stock safe, especially on rented land. Your cows are just beautiful Jo . The post knocker is a fantastic piece of kit. Thank you for a wonderful video 💜
Don't know about the UK but in the west of the United States if they post has a purple paint on it that means no trespassing that way you save on signs and everyone still knows 👍😉🐝 and it's not on every post about every 3 or 4 post so you don't have to have a lot of paint too because the stretches in the west are very big
You want the old pressure treated creosote stakes and a well tensioned strand of barbed wire ! As we say here in Ireland there is a gobshite born every minute for sure !
We have a lot of duke of Edinburghs and they are just the same! Try and show them the way to go and they still never listen! A lot of them talk to you like rubbish and nearly all of them can’t read a map. Footpaths are a farmers worst nightmare today🙈🤣
Hi Jo, that was a good watch, and Nik is a dab hand with the post knocker. You are quite right about costing materials because money doesn't grow on trees so every penny counts, but fences are essential and you are doing right by maintaining them, keep up the good work and best wishes from EA.
What a cool video Joanna!! You are doing a great job continuing with sustainable and traditional livestock farming... and at the same time modernizing the farm!! Very good job!!💪💪💚💚
Just a few years ago when creosote was being phased out the new treatment used made the wood very brittle which may explain why they are snapping at ground level.
It has been said good fences make for good neighbors! Keeping your livestock secure is most important and necessary! Good job Nick on pounding posts and greasing the shaft!😆
I was watching Season 3 of Clarkson's Farm and, low and behold, Jeremy was using the same fence post knocker that y'all have. Clarkson said the 'kit' belonged to Kaleb Cooper and worked really well. One of the jobs I dreaded as a lad on the farm was hammering in fence posts. Love the Highlands! Looking forward to the update fencing video. Be well - many blessings! Cheers...
Yes Nick loves greasing the shaft !!! Sting the Buggers with Nettles they shouldn't be interfering with farmland & respect that Highlands on the Moor deserve to be safe & secure alongside the Sheep. I absolutely love that Post Knocker & the Rock Spike Awesome so meditative putting posts into the ground & securing the fencing. Love your stuff Joanna & Nick David xx
Put up 4 feet high a extra length of barbed wire on top can’t go over that anyway people are getting thick and they think they do what they like doing a great job 👏
Hi Jo Grandparents were always right in whatever they said. I fully understand the problem with people doing whatever they want I work in retail and the public can be very trying. Take care Love Kim xx
I am so sorry you have to go through the inconsideration . And I don't think alot of people have comonsence any more . I've learned a lot from you two , but people should know not to reck the walls and stay on paths but they don't there selfish . Hope you are doing ok and the weather good for you . You will eventually get there then you have to do something elts . Thankyou for the update .take care . In salt lake , Utah .
IMHO Joanna and Nick on rented land you're absolutely doing the right thing by making the fences secure enough without going over-the-top by replacing and renewing the lot. Rented/leased land is not cheap anywhere and you've obviously done your cost/benefit analysis to find the "Happy Medium" when it comes to obligatory fence maintenance and repairs. Good work.
Great job on the fencing. It's too bad some individuals don't seem to respect other people's property or goods. If they had to do all the work I bet they would soon learn how to respect all the work/money that is involved in farming.
I'd guess that a treated fence post of that size is going to be about 40 quid, at least. So a few of those are going to be detrimental to the farm finances.
Awesome video again Joanna thanks, don't forget as my dad used to say there's no accounting for stupidity. That post knocker certainly makes fencing easier go Nick. Love the the Highlands there great. Sometimes you have to make do with what you have got especially this year the way farming is i think money will be a bit tight. Take care out there and stay safe 👍 😊.
I don't quite know how to say it as I don't know the full story such as financials, but on the face of it, Nick is a lucky guy. He has you Joanna and also he is able to do something I have always wanted to do, which is the outdoors life....but unless you're born into it or very skilled its so difficult. you make a great couple and bounce ideas off each other.
Perhaps it's a stupid question but why don't you use the trees as living fence posts where you have them and why not grow more trees to become living fence posts where you do not have them?
I’m not sure where respect for land, and people fell away? Part of this, I think is laziness, always looking for the easy way, regardless of the impact on others or other things. I think putting a few electrified fences up might create an obvious consequences? Farms, and ranches have enough chores, without adding more. 🙏🏼
People who make these stupid comments about money is no object obviously live in a town and have absolutely no idea how hard it is for a farmer to make a living these days
The longer I live the more people prove my grandfather right! He used to say there is a fool born every minute and most of them live!

Probably Nick put a pole in the house wilh his poleknocker, so Joanna can poledance for him. 😂
Cracking video the highland castle are looking great Joanna and Nick keep up with the good videos 👍👍👍
The post knocker is worth its weight in gold 👍and great to see the wall still upright!

Great video content as always folks, thank you.

You are legends Joanna and Nick!! 💪😎🫡🔥❤️
From my military days a good second hand Army surplus claymore mine is the way to go. Stops trespassers every time 😂😂
Just a few years ago when creosote was being phased out the new treatment used made the wood very brittle which may explain why they are snapping at ground level.
Nice that will do nicely on the rented fiald
It has been said good fences make for good neighbors! Keeping your livestock secure is most important and necessary! Good job Nick on pounding posts and greasing the shaft!😆
The post knocker machine on the tractor is such a handy piece of kit for the farm. Best of luck with everything ahead there 👍👍👍

It's great to see how much the postdriver has helped you manage your fences better, nick is getting to be a pro at it.

God send is that post knocker,I bet you feel more like doing the fencing work than if you didn’t have the machine ,makes the job so much easier
Great job Jo & Nick. Highlands are looking great.
J
Great work! Fencing is always a laborious chore! This had me recall helping my grandfather and father on the family ranch in Southern New Mexico,
Put up 4 feet high a extra length of barbed wire on top can’t go over that anyway people are getting thick and they think they do what they like doing a great job 👏
What Sundays are for……Dale Farm Vlogs 😀😊👌👍
Something that’s has to be done,be it you enjoy it or hate it,Wish them post knockers were around when I was on the farm.
Well done on the endless 'jobs' you have to keep on top of.
Sadly Common sense is not very common anymore
anymore.
☘️🍀💚
A little more barbed wire should keep them at bay. Great video. All the best 🇬🇧.
Ohhh wearing shorts plus nettles and barbed wire , be careful Nick .OUCHEY Best wishes ❤

Every time I see your stone wall it reminds me of the movie Shawshank Redemption. Great movie. If you’ve seen it you’ll know what I mean.
Good work Joanne pet I see your lambs 🐑 are doing great. Good luck with everything xxxx

What about a few panels of deer fencing nice and high just put them in high pedestrian areas
Nothing lasts forever!
Excellent video again thanks for sharing always fencing up keep on the farm doing a great job

👍👌❤️🇨🇦,real team work

You are doing a grand job, people think farmers are made of money which is a big myth. Keep up the good work. Take care xx

Perhaps it's a stupid question but why don't you use the trees as living fence posts where you have them and why not grow more trees to become living fence posts where you do not have them?
That grease would prevent people climbing over fences 😝
I’m a firm believer in signs for everything that way if there is damage you can say it was clearly marked should an idiot choose to ignore
Fence the walkers out of everything that isn't footpath Jo. They've brought it on themselves by not respecting your private property
If it’s rented land, then is it not the landlord who should maintain the fences?
👌
Tell the people to grow up and accept the country code put a bull in there and warn them of the danger
What is wrong with people??? 🤦♂️ I don’t know about Europe but in the Midwest of USA 🇺🇸, the owners can press charges against trespassing.
do you have any issue with barb wire and sheep?
This is why I don't like the idea of right to roam
it seems like people dont care maybe 6 foot fences would work better hugssss
👀🙄🐾👍

Some people are and always be asses…
put electric fence they would only do it once lol hugsssss
common sense is in short supply they just dont care
People who make these stupid comments about money is no object obviously live in a town and have absolutely no idea how hard it is for a farmer to make a living these days
2:41 too many signs lol. patronizing. people take so easily ofFENCE nowadays😁
