- The wait is over! It's finally here! KaveMan Goes Salty!
I never thought, not even for a second, that I would have a Saltwater tank, but here we are 😁 And let me tell you...I'm loving it!
The start of this saltwater journey has made me feel like a kid again. From picking out my new tank dimensions to choosing my very first fish and coral. It's like a brand-new hobby!
And while I'm sure many of you have also NEVER considered keeping a saltwater tank this video (and the future series of videos) may enlighten you to new possibilities.
I'll be taking you along on my journey, showing you all the things I'm learning to keep a successful saltwater tank, but I'll be keeping things simple and easy to understand! You know me 😁

Your Freshwater Tanks will be gone in a year. LOL I switched to salt water, and I’m currently converting my 200 gallon Discus tank to salt after I became obsessed when I started with my nano tank. If your into the hobby Reefing is next level.

Hi , can anyone answer why we need a protien skimer in a saltwater tank and not in fresh water?
The simplest explanation is to think of the protein skimmer as waves crashing on the beach. They create a foam and that foam is essentially removing organic material from the water and depositing it onto the beach. The skimmer creates foam and it collects in a cup for us to remove manually. The other thing a skimmer does is oxygenate the water and help maintain a high pH. Skimmers don't really work in freshwater systems because the salts in seawater help the water to foam.

Glad to hear it! This tank is 150G but its a custom size. I believe the most recommend size to get is a standard 75 or 120G 😁

Dude, if this video was meant to make me feel comfortable about setting up a saltwater system? It did the exact opposite. Watching you and three professionals set up this system made me feel like I'd handle it like a kid playing with tinker toys.
I specifically discuss that in the saltwater series. I’m not starting at the level a beginner would. That’s why I made the series in the way I did. Watch it, and trust me you will feel empowered about going saltwater.

dosalt water aquariums not require bio media in the filter?
Not really, mainly because most of the good bacteria needed to sustain the tank will be housed on the rock in the tank. But it doesnt hurt to add more bio media or rock in the filter. I have 2 bags of Matrix in my sump 😁
@@KaveManAquatics awesome, thanks for the response! I've come across this a lot and it's always bothered me. Meanwhile in the fresh water world, you would have a super planted tank with an insane substrate system but your filter will still have 70% bio media.
