      Paul and Morgan my thing is, desire The Baptism of The Holy Spirit and with that will come probably come tongues, but maybe not right away. I love praying in tongues. I think it’s good to talk about the act of speaking out in tongues and pray in tongues, because they are different! Thanks for this video.

      By what I've seen, is that people speak in tongues when the holy spirit comes over them like quite heavily... it's quite awesome witnessing it😊🔥

      Dear Paul and Morgan :)
      Thank you for sharing about speaking in tongues. Even though I don't 100% agree.
      I wanted to share a video with you by Christian UA-camr Allen Parr who also touches on that topic.

    I was filled with the Holy Spirit/Speaking in tongues at a kids church camp when I was 8 or 10. My church has taught me so much about the Holy Spirit and a the gifts of God. There are so many different types of speaking in tongues which I encourage anyone to look into. Like translating what the Holy Spirit is saying or having God speak through you to the entire congregation. I think there are a few more but I don’t remember.

      Wow I haven't really known many people who got the gift of tongues at such a young age! I got the gift of tongues at the age of 7 (I'm not 16) And I feel like my tongues express things to God that I just can't with English. I've had many moments in my personal prayer life, where I've just spoken in tongues and afterwords I've made so many spiritual breakthroughs. It's almost like my tongues pray for the things I really didn't know I needed🤷‍♀️ but yeah this video was incredibly helpful guys!

      Belle Hill yeah I think when you pray in tongues you pray for what God wants instead of what you feel you need and it helps fight spiritual battles that you didn’t think you where going through.

    I have a cool story about this! So my Pastor was on a missions trip and she was speaking and started praying in tongues and after the service this man came up to her and told her when she was praying she was saying “I love you” over and over again in his language which was an Indian language that my pastor hadn’t even heard of. Isn’t that amazing?! I love tongues. This happened again a few months ago in our home church she spoke another language and someone in the audience told her afterwards

    I would encourage you guys to research WHY speaking in tongues was so prevalent in the new testament. In Romans, tongues is introduced, not to speak in an unknown language, but a different language in order to spread the gospel among the nations. It is not meant to be a “closet speech” or a “heavenly language” it is meant to translate the good news across different languages. Could you show me one place in scripture tongues is used privately and without another believer translating it? The reason not all churches/believers believe in tongues is not because they are scared what people think, but because it is simply unbiblical. I’d love to hear yalls thoughts!

      Thanks for the comment, Hayden. What do you make of 1 Corinthians 14:2 “For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.”

    • @MissJessicaKimball
      @MissJessicaKimball 5 років тому +10

      This is my thoughts. I don't think you guys delved that deep on a biblical stance for it. Just my opinion. I've been taught this way that Hayden speaks of as well. There was once someone who was "speaking in tongues" (I do not know the origin of this story as my mom told me this) and they did a test and brang in a man that knew lots of languages and what he said was actually blasphemy against God. This person was most likely possessed with an evil spirit, not the Holy Spirit. At that point I was dead against tongues. I met a Pentecostal couple later on that talked about tongues as a heavenly language and not as human language. That interested me. And we discussed the story I was told. I tried seeing if Id be able to do it, but nope. I also was prob more closed to allowing it to happen as the beforehand story still lingered in my brain. But I looked into it more, and have been taught that tongues are not for us. I believe that the Spirit makes groanings for us, not ourselves. 1 Cor 14: says no man will no what he is saying if he doesn't have an interpreter. It also says tongues are for the unbelievers vs 22. In vs 4, it says he edifieth himself by speaking in an unknown tongue. combines with vs 2 saying he speaks to God. I take these verses to mean that God the Spirit fills them with ability to speak and he is the only one who knows what he is saying but to others it is foreign, thus only himself is edified. In 1 Cor 13:8-10 it says that when that which is perfect shall come these things, prophecy, tongues, knowledge shall vanish. I believe the Whole Bible is that which is perfect and thus these gifts were done away with and not needed since we have them all contained in the Bible. That is my take and do not mean any disrespect on your beliefs. I still need to study on it more though and hope others will too!:)

    • @MissJessicaKimball
      @MissJessicaKimball 5 років тому +2

      I forgot to add after my comment about only himself is edified in vs 2 and 4, that combined with vs 9 I think it's similar "he's speaking into the air" So that's how I take vs 2, that only God can hear him without an interpreter. Maybe I need to check my language studies again but I believe tongues means "languages" meaning different languages of the earth that some humans speak in the world, not one that nobody knows what is being said. Just some of my beliefs, you can take them or leave them. ♡ Love following you guys tho.

      I’m also interested in this cause some people teach “you’re not saved unless you speak I tongues” while the other side says “if you speak in tongues you’re possessed” lol. I’ve been wishy-washy in between what I believe but I’ve yet to become convicted one way or the other. Also off of what Jessica said, maybe the Holy Spirit is “that which is perfect” and since he reveals the truth of God to us through the word we don’t use tongues presently. Or maybe “that which is perfect” is referencing the second coming, in which case we should all be speaking in tongues. But I just watched something called Strange Fire conference and it made me kind of sketched out about being “slain in the spirit” and that “movement” in general

    Hey Paul and Morgan, I respect your channel and love what you all are doing but I do have a couple of questions regarding your position on tongues. There were two things said in this video that concerned me. The first is that you suggested that speaking in tongues is a more powerful way to pray to God. I would like to know what scriptural basis you were using to suggest that. From my understanding of the Bible there is not one scripture in the entire Bible that suggests or even states that speaking in tongue‘s is a more powerful way to pray. Secondly, if indeed speaking in tongues is a gift then the Bible says in 1 Corinthian‘s 12:7 and also in 1 Corinthians 12:11 that the Holy Spirit decides who gets certain gifts. Once again, nowhere in the Bible does it suggest that if you want a certain spiritual gift bad enough that God will give it to you. So I would like to know if these are just your opinions or if you have scriptural support. I say this not to start some debate on your channel but rather to encourage you because you have a platform of 72,000 followers and I think we and creators should be very careful as to how we lead them and make sure that everything we say is backed up by scripture. I’d be happy to know your thoughts. Thank you so much,

    • @PaulandMorgan
      @PaulandMorgan  5 років тому +5

      Hey brother, thanks for your comment and input. It’s clear you have done serious research into this topic, and I do think it’s very important to test what people say with Scripture. We strongly encourage our audience to go to the Bible and study for themselves whenever they are unsure of something we’ve said. It was our goal to share what our experience has been with speaking in tongues, rather than to sound as tho we were authorities on the subject. If we decide to do another video diving deeper into it, we will go to greater lengths in researching and providing Biblical support. As far as tongues being a more powerful way to pray, 1 Cor 14:2 says “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.” And in my experience when I enter into speaking in tongues it often is very intimate and powerful.
      But as far as the Romans 8 passage about the Spirit groaning, you may be right that groans and tongues are different things.
      Thanks for your insights and God bless your ministry brother!

    Yes! Speaking in tounges!! I just love how amazing it feels to be filled by his spirit. I still remember the first time I spoke in tounges, I was about 11 years old and I agree with Paul on that, is definitely something you have to desire deeply and that's what I felt that night. It was pre-camp service and the pastor made call to the alter for those who wanted to be baptized in the spirit, I was hesitant at first but like he mentioned in the video. You have to let go of that fear and I'm so glad I did, it wasn't like something where hands were placed on and prayed for. I was standing there hands raised, eyes clothes waiting on my turn and it just flowed out of me. It was so beautiful and definitely a day I will never forget and each time i receive it's like a whole new experience. Powerful message you guys and a great encouragement for the youth to seek that gift. God bless you!! 😊☺👏🤗

      There are times when I can “feel” something but looking back its feelings that’s it
      We aren’t to believe in something because we feel it or like how it sounds
      We are to believe the scriptures and this simply isn’t biblical
      I remember all sorts of times when I felt burning or excitement but that’s what happens when you are influenced emotionally to do so
      These experiences don’t confirm our salvation one bit

    • @daradarling
      @daradarling 5 років тому +2

      Pursuing Peas Jesus is our salvation and HE said that he was leaving the Holy Spirit to be our guide. The Bible specifically talks about the gifts of the spirit, INCLUDING speaking in tongues so I don't understand why you claim that it isn't biblical. God is SO much more grand than our minds can fathom, so before you claim that something isn't of God you should make sure that you're speaking with the wisdom granted to your Spirit, not just uttering words from your flesh.

    My church doesn’t support speaking in tongues or spiritual gifts or healing. My mom and dad talked to him about it, he said that he believes that they can all happen, but he will never preach about them. Here’s why, he thinks people will lose sight of what really matters which is being in God’s word. I can see where he is coming from. But I don’t understand why he would withhold things from the Bible that Jesus himself said is good. “You shall do even greater things than I.” I can’t remember where it says that. But y’all get the point. I feel like people think I am really odd... I have the gift of dream interpretation. What should I do?!!

      I had a very similar experience in my church, I've always been inclined to be more charismatic than the rest of the church where spiritual gifts were never mentioned or seen, which felt hard and lonely, I always felt like I'm the odd one and often had doubts about what I believed about/experienced with God and often felt judged because of it (I totally see why it is like that in the church and don't hold any grudges)
      So what hugely helped me was that God brought a mentor into my life that shared the same beliefs and I finally had someone to learn from and to become more confident in living these things out according to the Bible. Although it still felt hard and my desire for them to experience more of the fullness God offers made me feel even heavier but thanks to that God led me into praying for my church and slooowly very slowly (it all started years ago) I can see little breakthroughs. I'm not in the church anymore as God called me to different country where He blessed me with an amazing church (amazing in this area, obviously there are many other things to work on) and it feels so freeing to be able to talk about everything I'm experiencing with God openly and renewing my mind again and again because the enemy is still trying to get into my head about it sometimes but you know it is a journey. And you are on a journey as well! It's alright not to have everything put together, God has an amazing plan for you and He sees your desires and believe me, He wants it even more than you do (talking about Biblical things of course) so why wouldn't He give it to you? Just stay faithful and wait for His timing. He'll teach you about those things and He'll give you some people you can grow with. I encourage you to try to find someone who feels the same way so you're not alone in it, I really think you should do that, maybe you'll find someone in your church, you never know! I pray God would lead you and fill you with His understanding and the Holy Spirit. And don't be discouraged, God's building you up through the hard things!:)

      I was once in a church where there were some people who believed that if you didn't speak in tongues you weren't a true Christian, fortunately the leader stood firm, but it was really deviscive and really hurt some people. More generally there is a moderately common feeling whether it's intended or not that somehow people who have the gift are "better" Christians. Your pastor is the leader of your church and should be seeking God as to how to guide the congregation best and hopefully he's doing the right thing for now for your congregation. I would encourage you to use your gift within your personal relationships with other Christians.

      Everything in the Bible is important but Acts 2:38 is THE go to. It clearly speaks on speaking in tongues. I feel as if the pastor shouldn’t pick and choose what parts of the Bible’s to speak on because it is all important and it all needs to be preached, but I will pray for the church and that God shows him/her that all of these are very important and that he puts the desire in his/her heart to preach on it :))

    I got the gift of speaking in tongues at church, they baptized us in the holy spirit and then in the waters. I had asked for it to God before, but I didn't get it until I got prayed over in the name of Jesus. I've gotten to develop it and it is crucial in my prayer life, I have even prayed over others and helped them get it. • @kristyparsons1505
      @kristyparsons1505 5 років тому +1

      @@lightlamp9957 hey so the gift of speaking in tongues is not based on works but on your faith. This gift is the Holy Spirit speaking through you, all you need to do is ask for it and open your mouth by faith. Remember only faith pleases God, that is faith in His Word (Hebrews 11:16). This gift is not based on how long you fast etc but just upon you believing God gives you what you ask in His Name and walking out your faith by opening your mouth. A key indicator that you are speaking in tongues is that you don't understand what your saying, but no matter how awkward you may feel don't stop, allow the Holy Spirit to intercede through you. According to 1 Corinthians 14:2, when we speak in tongues we speak directly to God, we utter mysteries in the Spirit. The devil cannot understand. A little extra knowledge for ya ;) According to 1 Corinthians 14:14 our Spirit is the one praying through us, meaning that what we pray is based on what we fill our spirit with.. if we don't take enough of the Word of God in, our spirit does not have enough to work with when we pray in tongues. Take in the Word, believe, receive and apply the gift. God bless you :)

    I didn't grow up with the biblical teaching of speaking in tounges so I am sort of confused. Do you mean tounges such as languages spoken on earth by humans, or is tounges a separaate language that no except the person speaking and God know of. If it is the second, does that mean each person who has the gift is speaking something different? Also the bible says go into the world and preach the gospel. If you try to preach the gospel in tounges what good does that do if only you and God know what it mean? You might as well be speaking gibberish. Unless there is someone who can translate tounges, I don't see a reason to speak in tounges. Or is tounges a private gift that is only done during personal prayer? These are just my thoughts. I'm not saying your wrong again I am just confused about the topic. Help

      There are examples of people receiving the gift of tongues that does allow them to speak another language and thus preach the gospel in that language, but in the main tongues is not a recogniseable human language and it is mainly used in private prayer. Personally I feel the bible does indicate that there are circumstances where the gift would be used publically and that the Holy Spirit would provide a translator.

    • @zniedelova
      @zniedelova 5 років тому +6

      Try to look into 1Corinthians 12-14 there's a lot about spiritual gifts including tongues.
      But in short, there are many different types of the gift of tongues. Some people speaking in tongues speak in earthly languages (they often don't even know it is an earthly language as they don't understand) and some in heavenly language (which also sounds differently for everyone, but I don't know and don't think anyone knows how or if it works on linguistic level if you're asking that) which no one on earth understands without the gift of interpretation what just means God will make you understand, you can get this gift even for earthly languages.
      Preaching/public speaking in tongues should not be performed unless interpreted so where the Bible talks about preaching the gospel, it talks about preaching in a way people understand = normal speech.
      So yes it is mostly for private prayer. Bible says about all the gifts to be for building up the church while only the gift of tongues is for personal growth.
      It is an amazing gift that brings you into so much deeper relationship with God and when you pray in tongues it's basically the Holy Spirit praying through you the exact words of the Father therefore perfectly according to God's will
      Hope this helped! I don't know loads about it but you can ask more if you need, if I don't knoe the answers I'm sure someone here will know:)

    • @kieraperry3833

      I can understand why you are confused. from my knowledge speaking in tounges can be old languages people haven't used for years or heavenly languages. and usually only you can speak it and God understands it. and no one has the same prayer language so it is special for you and God. when people are worshiping they speak in it and God gives them prophecies like things God is telling them. usually if someone is speaking in tounges in front of a crowd God will give someone the gift to interpret what the person is speaking. I really hope that cleared some things up for you and didn't make you more confused.

    Speaking in tounges changed my life. God actually woke me up in the middle of the night to pray for my friend. (I didn’t know who or why I was praying so I prayed in tounges. )
    My friend ended up overdosing that night and I found out the next day. (Then I got the revelation I was praying for her at 3am in the morning)
    Even though she wasn’t saved I know God woke me up to intercede on her behalf. Which really brought me comfort when she later passed away.
    The next week I prayed in tounges for a man walking down the street because I felt like he may have been oppressed by something demonic. So I prayed for him and the SECOND I open my mouth to pray in tounges he froze on the side walk.
    I knew God was showing me the power of tounges and how when I woke up at 3am to pray in tounges for my friend... the enemy froze.

    Praying and speaking in tongues are two similar but separate things! Praying in tongues is mainly for YOU, its your prayer language, its your direct hotline from your heart to God and it is a result of the holy spirit filling you up (1 corinthians 14:2) Now speaking in tongues is for the church it is to SERVE others and most importantly it is meant to be INTERPRETED by another person who has the gift of interpretation. It is similar to the gift of prophesy, God speaks to the church by speaking through a person in tongues and that message is translated. (1 Corinthians 14:27-28) This is what i was taught by my church leaders/pastors and it makes interpretting what God meant in 1 Corinthians 14 a whole lot easier once you define each gift. Now they said they werent sure why God would choose to use tongues when He could just speak to us directly, but we just cant understand Gods ways sometimes and thats exciting to know!

    I didn't want gift of tongues, but God gave me, because He knows what I need.
    It was last year, few months later when I got saved and baptized with Holly Spirit. I was singing worship alone in my room, and just feeling God's presence. But before that, I came across the scripture in Acts about gift of tongues. I really didn't think about it, I just bearly read it, because I was skeptical about that gift. And when I was singing, my spirit was so hungry for God that second before I started to pray in tongues I knew what was going to happen. And when that language came, I felt the Holly Spirit 10 times more intense. I was so overwhelmed, and it was a beautiful moment.
    Haha, it's just interesting how God can change our mind and give us what we need. He is amazing! 🙌😄

    The first thing people should to do is read 1st Corinthians chapters 12 thru 14. Then you have to get over your fear of speaking in tongues and earnestly seek the gift from the Lord in prayer or have someone who has the gift pray over you to receive it. As far as I am concerned it is most useful as a prayer language - when you run out of words just ask the Holy Spirit to pray thru you and then allow your tongue etc. to come under His control.

    Speaking in tongues or “the Holy Ghost” is for all. Acts 2:38 says “...repent and be baptized EVERYONE of you” then it says “...and YE shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (KJV) meaning it’s everyone’s gift. I’ve heard people say “speaking in tongues isn’t my gift” but it’s for all. But knowing that you guys do speak in tongues makes me happy and that you put it out there because not many people on UA-cam talk about things like this

    I received the gift of speaking in tongues almost a year ago during a Spirit-filled worship. People around started speaking it and I had been praying for it for a while so I just felt like I needed to speak two words I didn't know. But I thought it was all me and didn't use them afterwards. Then I had a conversation on the subject with a new girl at my youth and she was saying how sometimes you have to stretch your faith and trust that God put those words in your mouth and since I've been using it more often and even received a few more words! We gotta honour God's gifts too, like the guy said in your video, God won't give it to you if there's a spirit of fear linked to your demand

My church and myself speak in tongues and other than this video I have never met other people or another church that does and it has made me feel weird at times but I truly don't know how my relationship with Jesus would be if I didn't speak in my heavenly language. It's proof that the Holy Spirit is still with me and when it becomes hard to speak in tongues it immediately puts my spirit on check because I want to be a holy spirit filled christian. Thank God that there are still people who believe in the power of tongues! You guys get to the topics that no christian wants to talk about and you do it with grace, humility, love, and most importantly biblical truths. Nissi Hires never been "slain" by the spirit, but the day I spoke in tongues was CRAZY. Earlier that week I'd watched a video of people "laughing in the Spirit" and I seriously questioned if it was genuine/biblical. The day I spoke on tongues I was filled with great joy and an uncontrollable laughter filled my belly. I laughed for a good 10+ minutes. That day, the Lord showed me that he works in more ways than our minds can fathom, and although we should always test spirits, we should never try to limit the ways in which God can work.

    I remember seeing my sister speak in tongues and being infilled for the first time. It was such an awesome moment, but it was scary. I thought you literally got possessed by the Holy Spirit, but my mom said that it was like a cup being filled instead of a possession. So, when I was filled, I had to cast out a lot of fear that was controlling my life since I was 4. I was filled in the car on the way home from church or something. But I didn't do it for the longest time in public, but once at Youth Group, God put His grief of the lost on my heart, so I knew I was supposed to speak in tongues. Reluctantly, I went to the back of the room, knelt down and wept. Then I interceded and I must be honest, a lot of people looked at me weirdly. Know we changed churches and they don't look down on the infilling of the Holy Spirit. They actually encourage it.

    Great message about speaking in tongues and awesome vlog! Looked like y'all have fun! :)
    As for me, i 100% believe in speaking in tongues. I grew up with it so to me it's normal. I actually had a conversation with my friend the other day about it. She didn't understand it (she grew up Baptist. So not a Holy Ghost filled church ya know?) so I explained it to her. I told her that there's a difference between prophecying to others (which is when interpretation is provided) and praying for yourself or someone else and the Spirit intercedes on your behalf. It's literally words coming straight from the Throne of God. Nothing fake or "demonic" about that! It's also the ONLY language satan and his demons cannot understand.
    Anyone can be asked to be filled with the gift of tongues. If you ask with a pure desire then you will. Speaking in tongues ain't something you can force out of you (if you try, and babble nonsense its not tongues). It'll just come out of you whether your praying to God and the Spirit prays for things you don't even know about or like singing to Him.
    That's why it's important to go to a Holy Ghost filled church. Where the Spirit flows freely and you're able to worship how you feel lead. Not saying if your church doesn't speak in tongues, then it's a bad church. But if you attend a church where EVERYTHING has an exact schedule, ppl stay chained to their chairs, and leave the same way they came in then you should really find a new church... Christ wants us set free and grow deeper in our relationship with Him.
    Oh! Check out Realtalkkim aka Kim Pothier if you wanna watch a godly filled pastor who keeps it real! I love her sermons! :)

    This reminds me so much of when my husband used to rap with his gospel rap group years ago! I miss those days of recording and playing music 😄
    I agree that speaking in tongues is something that usually looks strange, but its from God and usually when God does something, it isn't ordinary. In the book of Acts, people thought that when Gods disciples were filled with power and speaking in tongues that they were drunk! Spiritual gifts have so much power that anyone viewing them from a natural carnal mindset won't understand it unless they want to! I pray in tongues, and I love when God reveals things to me through it! I need to do it more though 🙂

    So my question would be,why so many want and ask God for the gift of speaking in tongues, but so little I see people willing and striving to have gift of interpretation (1 Cor14:12-13). From the experiences when I heard people praying in tongues I related to Paul´s thoughts in Cor 14:1-25 ...I mean all of it. He just addressed it so well.We really need to look at whole context of whole letter to Corint. In 1 Cor 13:1 he starts by the biggest issue present in the church (we cannot pretend it´s not there)- but he tries to re-focus them towards the love. I want my mind be engaged (1 Cor 14: 14-17) during praying and worshiping. I remember attending some worship concert where they started in tongues and I just didn´t feel right. So far, I haven´t seen anybody interpreting, and that´s the problem even according to Paul (obviously from the context). In the chapter 12:4-11 he talks about spiritual gifts- The Holy Spirit is the one who gives as He wills (I cannot make Him to give me want I want) with the clear purpose: the common good of all (1 Cor 12:7). And he explains it further on the example of body and its members which are to profit each other with different "function". Verses 27-31 of he same chapter name different callings according to different gifts so that body of Christ- the church- can be builded. And the verse 31 is a beautiful intro to the next famous chapter about Love as the highest principle- without love all is in vain. So I would say, if your private praying in tongues brings you closer to God so you can more efficiently work for the Kingdom of God and build the church- than of course do that, because spreading the gospel to each corner of the earth is the main aim and task Jesus gave us (with His power)- Mat 28:18-20. Or pray to interpret them so it can be for the blessing of others as well :)

    I love speaking in tongues. Everywhere I looked in the Book of Acts, when the Spirit came, people spoke in tongues and in some instances, prophesied. Not because they needed a language to use to communicate because that wasn't the case in Acts 10 and 19. Pentecost was a rare occasion. Albeit today, there is also the gift of diverse tongues and interpretation of tongues, which is a separate subject matter e.g. I have a sister who speaks English receive a tongue in French for a brother who was naturally a French speaker. Anyway, I heard so many teachings about speaking in tonuges but only one person brought both schools of thought together and that was Derek Prince (whom I consider to be my spiritual grandfather) then he led us into a prayer to ask God for the gift by faith and speak by faith because many people ask but don't speak hence, no demonstration of the gift albeit it may be dormant within. I did and even received "To Worship You I Live" in my new language as a testament that I had indeed received a heavenly language. Following day, I was able to speak more and then it was as if God was waiting for me to have this experience because then he told me something really special. Here is the link to the video I watched: ua-cam.com/video/YsPmd3vUGJw/v-deo.html.

    Until a few months ago, I was taught that speaking in tongues is weird and that it's demonic. I went to a Pentecostal church with one of my friends and began asking questions and understanding that tongues is right there in the Bible. People just try to twist the Word of God and make it seem like tongues is dead. Once I came to this revelation, I asked God to fill me with His Spirit and am now learning a lot about tongues and am seeking and desiring this gift and believe in His timing, I'll be praying in tongues. I found your guys' channel a few weeks ago and was wondering if you prayed in tongues but couldn't find the answer anywhere and then suddenly this video popped up on my feed 😂

    I’ve been praying to experience this for couple years. Last fall, I had someone pray over me to receive tongues at an event, and I spoke out in faith a random syllable or two as it came to my mind, but I didn’t start flowing like I’ve seen other people experience. I’d like to believe that something happened. But I haven’t been able to step into this fully in my everyday private walk with the Lord.

    Acts 2:38. & John 3:8.
    When someone truly receives God’s spirit and accepts Him into their heart they receive God’s spirit. The Bible refers to the spirit as a wind, a sound comes with the spirit. So when someone receives the Holy Ghost, accepting God into their heart, the Lord fills them with His spirit by evidence of speaking in tongues. I believe God allows us to speaks in tongues so we know for sure that God’s spirit is inside of us. The Bible talks about our tongue being the hardest part to tame and Satan being the prince of the air. So I think it’s awesome that God would give us evidence of having His spirit through taking control of our tongue and having a holy sound made into the air.

    I believe that the gift of tongues is both a private and public thing. The Holy Spirit can speak through someone as a message for the church and another can interpret it. But it can also be a private language between you and God, allowing you to pray in a higher way, and so the enemy cannot hear your prayers. Tongues are not bad, I believe once you have the gift God let's you choose when to speak in it, except when the Holy Spirit stirs up the gift for a message. But even then, your heart has to be willing to let your tongue obey him. If that makes sense.

    Great channel Paul & Morgan! Good to hear some thoughts about speaking in tongues.
    Just some quick constructive criticism: with your rise in subscribers and influence, this is fast become a ministry platform you guys have, so you should definitely invest in making the quality of your video’s more excellent. The content and the editing.
    You guys definitely have the right hooks, intentions and subject matter but just be cautious of not losing your viewer to average edits and boring imagery content.
    I’m mentioning this because I love your channel and videos, but find myself lost in some parts of them.
    (This is not about the vlog before the tongues discussion part of the video - I am aware that this is a marketing technique and think it’s great! It’s literally about getting a little more planned about what shots you’re going to take and what verbals you are going to say and then are choosing to include in the final edits and making your edits smoother on the viewers eye).

    TLDR: Speaking in tongues used to be people miraculously being able to speak a language they never learned, but today it's folks in small Prot sects that yell gibberish and shake a lot.

    Well, thanks for this video, I think the Lord will give the gift of speaking in tongues to me. Because almost every time I start to pray my tongue starts moving because of the Holy Spirit. But I just can't get sounds or words of my tongue when that happens. And I have no idea what to do, to be honest, I have prayed for more of the Holy Spirit, but it doesn't work. May be my heart isn't ready yet for this gift.
    But this video was a great encouragement as every other video you guys make! I pray for you!

    Y’all are so sweet and fun, I’ve really enjoyed your videos though I’ve only been watching for a couple months. Your take on speaking in tongues is different than most I’ve heard because it sounds like y’all mostly use tongues in private prayer and worship? What Houston said about people not speaking in tongues because they’re afraid of looking weird in front of people is interesting. What I’ve seen more often is people speaking in tongues because they want to look more spiritual in front of others. I personally have not prayed for the gift of tongues because of verses like 1 Corinthians 13 & 14 where Paul says that teaching God’s Word is more important because it edifies and convicts all those that hear whereas tongues just confuses those who hear unless you have an interpreter. Also that showing God’s love towards others is more important than spiritual gifts like tongues and prophecy. I really appreciate your openness on this topic of speaking in tongues, it’s given me food for thought. It was also really neat to hear how Morgan had the opportunity to pray over so many young women! May God continue to bless you both as you walk with Him! ❤️

    This is what the bible says about speaking in tongues and it seems very clear to me. Also you shouldn't think that if you never speak tongues, then that means you are not a believer. There are many believers who have not done it. When you put it in that light, it is very easy to become focused on that and not on the Lord and his word. Definitely read the whole chapter, but in 1 Corinthians 14, Paul says.....
    vs. 2-16 "For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.
    But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
    One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.
    Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.
    But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching?
    Yet even lifeless things, either flute or harp, in producing a sound, if they do not produce a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is played on the flute or on the harp?
    For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle
    So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. (aka shooting the breeze)
    There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no kind is without meaning.
    If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a BARBARIAN and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me.
    So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.
    Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
    For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
    What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.
    Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?"
    vs. 20 "Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature."
    vs. 22 "So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe."

    The Pentecostals speaking in tongues aren't biblical. Starting in the early 20th century CE. The way I was taught was that the one speaking would be speaking in their own and the ones listen would be hearing it in their native tongue.

    I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit and that he is able to do these works through whoever he chooses, but something I’ve wrestled with in the past is when it is expected that everyone should have this spiritual gift. After Paul goes through all the spiritual gifts in the preceding verses, 1 Cor 12:11 says, “All these are the work of one and the same spirit, and he distributed them to each one, just as he determines” therefore, not one gift or all gifts are given to every person. God chooses how he wants to use us. So God does not promise to give all of his children the gift of speaking in tongues, but only those whom he wills.
    I personally have not been given this gift, I am open to it if God wills but he hasn’t and that’s okay! He is using me for his glory and drawing me closer to him through other spiritual gifts and I’m so glad :)

    If you want to understand more about tongues you've got to go to the people who do it the most; I would suggest you look for some good old-fashioned Pentecostal preaching. There seems to be plenty of it on UA-cam, but I haven't been able to find a good tongues message for beginners as of yet. For now I would suggest reading the book of Acts, particularly 2:1-4, 10:44-48, and 19:5-6. These all demonstrate the link between tongues and the Holy Ghost. You guys are on the right track; don't believe the naysayers who tell you otherwise.

    I think speaking in tongues is a gift, but not every one will or should get it. It may just happen in the moment, because the Holy Spirit gave it to you; but it is important to have an interpreter present, to edify the hearers. An example of this is in Acts

    • @daradarling
      @daradarling 5 років тому

      Mel Thom There are three ways in which speaking in tongues occurs: 1.) the ability to speak in an "earthly" language other than your own (Acts 2) , 2.) the ability to prophecy to the church (and need an interpreter)(1 Corinthians 14), 3.) The ability to speak in a heavenly language (also in 1 Corinthians 14).
      First thing I would like to clear up is the misconception that ONLY the apostles could speak in other languages by the power of the Spirit. Acts 2:1 says that "on the day of Pentecost ALL the believers were meeting together in one place." And in verse 4 it's says that "EVERYONE PRESENT was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave than this ability." We see a lot of factors in these verses, but 2 things I want to point out; a) since it says all the believers were together, we know that it wasn't only the apostles who were filled, b) notice that it says that ability was GIVEN by the Holy Spirit.
      As we continue reading Acts 2 we find out that they spoke the languages of every nation living in Jerusalem, and in verse 13 it specifically says that in whatever language they were speaking, they spoke about the wonderful things God has done. Let me also point out that some of the people in the crowd, even back then, ridiculed them, saying that they were just drunk. Sound familiar to today's people denying the works of the Spirit?
      Moving on, another common misconception is that we can't speak in tongues without an interpreter. The Bible doesn't say that we can't speak in tongues without an interpreter, but rather that in a church setting it is more productive to have an interpreter. 1 Corinthians 14:5 says "For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues UNLESS someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened." This insinuates that we can speak in tongues, even when there is not an interpretation-- but an interpreter is more edifying for the church. Paul continues in the 13th verse saying that is why we should pray for the ability to interpret what has been said; which also insinuates that we can pray for spiritual gifts.
      As far as heavenly languages goes, the Bible says "For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking ONLY TO GOD, since the people won't be able to understand you." (1 Corinthians 14:2), so yes it is Specific to God, unless the Holy Spirit sends an interpretation. In 1 Corinthians 13:1 Paul also says, "If I could speak all the languages of earth and of ANGELS, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or clanging cymbal." The fact that he mentions the language of angels shows that a heavenly language does indeed exist.
      Overall, the Holy Spirit grants each of us gifts so that we can contribute to the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:6 says, "God works in different ways, but it is the SAME GOD who does the work in all of us." So, whether that's speaking in tongues, interpretation, or prophecy we should seek the Holy Spirit in identifying how we can be edifying to the rest of the body and one of the most important ways we can do this is through LOVE :)

    “How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret.” 1 Corinthians 14:26-27

    • @melindab
      @melindab 5 років тому +1

      CJ Lingle this verse is talking about speaking in tongues in church and in public. It’s explaining how it’s not beneficial to the whole unless there’s an interpretation. However that’s not the only time to speak in tongues he’s just addressing it WHEN it’s in church and how to go about it. “A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.”
      ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬
      Speaking in tongues is also to build up your own spirit but Paul is a preacher so he is preaching on the benefit of the whole congregation.
      Just my thoughts.

    • @melindab

      Also I believe, if I remember correctly, this was a specific problem for the church of Corinth. They were having church services where all they did was pray in tongues and no one benefited from that so Paul is correcting them. But he’s still not saying “tongues is only for interpretation” he’s saying when it’s in public, interpret it but he also says it’s for our personal benefit

    With the speaking in tongues thing, I agree that the apostle Paul says he "would that everyone would speak in tongues" but not everyone does. And that it's most often individual edification, unless there is someone to interpret to the church ...Personally, it's something I desire but perhaps not deeply enough yet. I don't really care what people think, but I do desire that connection to God. One day, lord willing :)

    The Bible states clearly( specifically in 1 Cor 13: 8-10) that the time of speaking in tongues has passed. We have to be so extremely careful about these kinds of things as they can lead us down the wrong paths, especially by leaving a bunch of room for human discretion, which is something that speaking in tongues does. I love Paul and Morgan and look up to them, but this really disappointed me.
