My uncle had a black leather jacket. He kept it hid in a rose bush outside his bedroom. He'd wear it to & from school, after he got home he went thru the house, he'd open the window & grab it. That WAS really taboo back then.
I'm 50 yrs old now and grew up in the the 70s around my dad and his buddies from the late 50s/early 60s greaser era. They were all backyard mechanics still greasing their hair back then and untill this very day!!! These cats are diehards! I went thru my phases back in the day but never took to any styles of the 80s or 90s. I couldn't stand the pastels or the alternative scene so I kept doing my own thing. I was born an Elvis and Doo Wop fan. My father brought me up on that music and never diverted. I am a true old soul that was born too late but glad I can keep the greaser alliance flowing. It's classic Americana at its best. Can't take it away, so keep it going. Brother, we are cut from the same cloth. I'm into my Rock n roll, my drums, drawing, my pomade, tattoos and a killer pair of denim. My dad told me how he would dress then at 17. He would wear black tshirts backwards under a nice colorded button up shirt. Made it look cooler having the t-shirt collar higher on the front of his neck. Gave it a style that was different. If he was in the train smoking and no where to put the ashes he would tap them into the cuffed pant leg to not be disrespectful. Just the small things that are the coolest. Glad I found you, man. Your channel is very cherry! Rockin' Retrow from Connecticut
Brilliant account of your dad & buddies. I wish I could see a pic of them how they looked in the 70/80s Back in Spain it was very common to see guys from the 50s still sporting small quiffs wearing typical 70/80s clothes (no association with RnR). Best wishes 👍
And you wonder why you're doing well..this kinda stuff is different from the other channels and its interesting and informative. Keep up the good work. X
I love doing the original look, it's just enough for me. I find some of the newer stuff a bit much but I can appreciate it especially on the right person
My dad and uncle WERE greasers in the late 50's and early 60's. My uncle was a tough guy, a trouble maker. They wore leather jackets, rolled up levis, engineer boots, greasy hair with pomps and duck tails etc. I saw old b&w photos of them. But they preferred country music. So I don't think it is arbitrary that one HAS to listen to old school rock to be a greaser.
honestly i’m a fan of the original era, i don’t mind modern era, people can dress however they want! but i do dislike when modern era people CLAIM to be original era when they’re not.
To be a greaser in Germany in these days (and in my age, im 20)is hard af but I love it Im a modern day Car Mechanic and Carguy wich loves the 50's music and greaser style I say for my self im a greaser even if my style is not always correct (wrong shoes and also wear caps sometimes) and I also listen to modern music

Good video, man. You really know your shit. You're definitely a student of the genre and the culture. And yes, to be a greaser, rockabilly, etc, you have to have an appreciation for the culture and the music BUT you are not limited to it. I still have a love for 90s rap and r&b because that's what I listened to as a kid and it still stays with me today despite the rolled up jeans, t-shirt and pomp.
Love all your videos! it's sad to see so much drama in the greaser community. I love the music, the style, and the cars. I got a career and a familly to take care of... no time for drama. Your videos are very positive and very inspiring.
i'm just getting into rockabilly because i have a passion for good music no matter the genre, i've always worn chucks and always worn flannels and had a leather jacket but never really considered myself to be a greaser i just wear what i like to wear. im pretty involved in my local diy punk scene and the dress to an extent is sort of similar. i just dont really label myself, really loving this channel though man i want to learn more about this scene/lifestyle.
I think I am definitely a mixture of original and modern with a hint of psychobilly. Sometimes I wear bowling shirts with hot rod designs and such or western shirts with skulls and roses but it depends on the occasion and where I'm at. Everyday wear is probably t shirt or button up flannel, jeans, jacket, and cowboy boots or chucks. Sometimes it's a plain white tshirt (untucked because nobody wants to see my root beer gut) but other times it'll be a black rockabilly/psychobilly band shirt. I of course have some creepers and a denim vest with patches and pins on it. Can't say I would go full on psychobilly, just don't have the hair for it. Prefer a classic or slightly exaggerated pompadour or other classic style. The ignorant comments I usually get are "Goth Elvis" or "Punk Johnny Cash", "Rejected Grease Actor", "Jock Mechanic" "Tunnel Snake From Fallout" and even Ricky from Trailer Park Boys. Those are usually neutral to nice ones (I kinda liked being called a Punk Johnny Cash). Somebody said I looked like a Kardashian male or a Douchebag Guido from Jersey Shore and those ones actually urked me because of how uneducated they were. No matter the insults, I'm not turning back on who I am. Been a greaser since 13, but it's only getting started.
Nice comparison! I've been a greaser before I even knew what it was. Me and my friends grew up low income and we're a bunch of rascals who listen to old rock and punk. I make a rock/trap combo with influence from the 50s and 60s. We don't do it to be stylish, we just do us. We like cutting the sleeves off all our shirts and drinking beer haha. I used to have Elvis hair, but I shaved my head a few months ago and I'm growing it back out
Also, my great uncle is an og greaser from the 50s and 60s, grew up in new Jersey. My grandpa was a greaser too but he joined the navy in the late 60s and had to change how he dressed, even though he was a greaser at heart until he passed away
Great vid Kat. And you're absolutely right about song you're hw, even tho I never did it back in high school haha, but especially for the young ones who are just tuning in, mad man won't steer you wrong, what he's saying is so true and on point,
I'll be honest, I love greaser style, culture, music etc... but also punk and metal and rockabilly and psychobilly and everything in between. I've basically become a Frankenstein's monster of rocker style. I'm just a rock n roller dude... fuck it, it's great.
Great 🎥 dude! I always thought that if the original greasers back in the 50s had everything that's available now they'd wear it without any doubt I still remember a London Ted,(my age, I'm now 53) telling me that he lived in the same way as 1956. By the time I asked him if he owned a cell phone, the 56 live style fell like a cheap suit. Great insight man 👍! Look after yourself
Rockabilly Asian, thanks. And I collect vintage pictures from over sixty years ago. I have also been in the greaser ballgame for five years now. I know almost everything about greaser culture. Unfortunately, I do not dress like a greaser so much anymore for fear of people calling me a poser. I have taken all of my history classes I needed in Chaffey College already.
Rockabilly Asian, you ever tried Murray's Super Light Pomade & Hairdressing, and Murray's Nu Nile Hair Slick Dressing Pomade before? They are very awesome pomades to be using. I also think Murray's Super Light Hairdressing Pomade beats Royal Crown Pomade.
I have to admit, Rockabilly Asian: I never liked Murray's Super Light for a long time, because that was before I did not know how to use a hairdryer to get the perfect volume and avoid hair flop. But now I do love using Murray's Super Light on dry hair after using a hairdryer for my hair, because the shine the product now gives off on my hair great.

Speak on brother! Another thing that most normals and conformists (civilians) don't understand, is that there are several different subcultures within the Rockabilly Worldwide Community: Rockabillies, Psychobillies, Greasers, Teddy Boys, and Rockers. Rockers are the most misunderstood because there are actually 2 different subcultures using the Same name; in the USA, since the late 1970s, rockers have been long-haired musicians and fans of Heavy Metal, Rock, and Hard Rock; obviously having nothing to do with the Rockabilly community that I'm talking about here. But, in the 1950s, in England, there were a group of kids that rode British motorcycles, loved American Rock'n'Roll and Rockabilly, and emulated the "greaser look" (Like Brando's the Wild One), but mixed it with blue-collar, working-class British street style, emulating the English heroes of 50s England, the R.A.F. of WWII, and they were called Ton-Up Boys, and later on called Rockers by the Mods. They were in essence, the British version of the American Greaser, although they were into British motorcycles, not hotrods. These Rockers evolved from the 50s Ton-Up Boys into the 60s anti-thesis of the Mods, the Mods who were into Blues Rock, R&B, Soul, Motown and Ska, and Italian scooters. These Rockers were into 1950s American and British Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly, and café racer motorbikes. Today, there are still hundreds of Ton-Up boys/Rockers all over the world, mostly in the UK and Europe, but also several dozen in the USA. And although there are thousands of "café racers" in America, there are still very few actual rockers (in the British sense) in the States. It's all about a specific, uniform style; blue-collar pride; British motorbikes like BSA, Norton, and Triumph; and good 'ol 1950s Rock'n'Roll, DooWop, and Rockabilly, like Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Elvis, Billy Fury, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Johnny Kidd, Cash, The Rapiers, Johnny Burnette, Cliff Richard, Vince Taylor, and Little Richard, etc. Cheers mate

i feel you madman im a psycho gonna start sporting the quiff soon id love to start using some stickers to spread the rockabilly revival of 2020 would love to see some greasers or psychos in the neighborhood
Ok so in my area there isnt any greaser girls to get or many greaser guys to hang out with... Im trying to start a social group and I have 3 people into it but we need more people... What should I do?
I was the only greaser in my high school. Lots of fights. I won some, I lost some. This was around 89-92. Had so many switchblades taken off me by high school security. It sucked!! Now the laws have changed here and it's ok to buy automatic knives.
I'm a greaser tbh I wear jean jackets or black leather jackets and light blue jeans and black boots and I hang out with greasers and we usually get into fights with jocks and shit
@KrypticArt i am a punk rocker but i've got the taste for the Pompadour hairstyle and The Rockabilly style as well so i'm gonna turn myself into a psychobilly i also like bands like Stray Cats , Elvis Presley , Demented Are Go and much much more :)
Dude from 2001 to 2009 we where everywhere. we started the trends that are today lol. from Murrys in the hair to lay-rite. The spirt of viva is not the same. Wait to see a video on the pinups lol. cheerz
Yeah ive noticed that during the early 2000's was the viva wave and things were happening. I feel like a lot of it has fizzled out. Well no worries it's coming back bigger and better!
omf when you said "that's the devil's music" I immediately thought of that bit in Great Balls of Fire when the kid (can't remember his name) was like "tHAT'S THE DEVIL'S MUSIC JERRY LEE!!!!"
I think the natural progression of the greaser is the punk. They fill all the same rolls as the greaser did without all the nostalgia. Listening to music that is generally frowned upon, drinking, drugs, fighting all the normal delinquent things. Wearing cloths nobody else is including many leather jackets. In most schools punks predominately have beef with the more well to do popular kids. The motorcycle became more skateboards, trick bikes and fast forign cars. I would say they are the "true" progression of the greaser without trying to be a greaser lol
Yeah man man I just got a questionnaire on I think the greasers in the 50s doing I was just wondering and I will do I will just want to add I think that they wear the black leather jacket with a black leather jacket with the tassels hanging off of them
Your right to a point but the thing is a hood is a hood (bad boy) wether its the 50's, 70's, 80's or today. I was born in 71 grew up in the 80's and in jr high and on into high school i was considered a hood and bad boy. While the dress and muaic was different the attitude was the same as well as the way we were treatmed by the ao called "norm" hood is hood period no matter the era!
Totally agree with what you said about people saying "oh you look like elvis" Im more hard rock 80' hair metal put my hair in a big frizzy undercut hairspray and putty not grease I had a guns n roses t shirt on a biker jacket western boots padlock necklace and looked nothing like elvis and had some bloke say that i looked like elvis 😂😂😂😂 people are ignorant man
I am an Italian and work in an office and am still technically a greaser. We have curly hair and have to use a ton of product to keep the hair in place. Italians were poor lower class workers. Day-go aka day worker. We couldn't always afford a hair cut most of the time. We were harassed and were always in fights. That's where the rebel attitude comes from. Italians have always worn leather jackets motorcycle or not. People copied a our struggle because they thought it was cool and that's where you got this subcult that it evolved into. We were just doing the best with the hand we were dealt. Watch the godfather 2 in the meeting with the governor how he makes a comment on how he doesnt like our kind with our oilly hair. Mike is sitting in a silk suit. Greaseball, Greaser A person of Italian descent. It can also refer to any person of Mediterranean/Southern European descent or Hispanic descent.[163] "Greaser" has taken on a less derogatory connotation since the 1950s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs#G

John Cena, this May be a year late but psychobilly is rockabilly with punk rock elements in it almost like a combination
My grandfather was a greaser and he would slick his hair back with cooking oil(lol)
My friend John the barber used give short and full pompdaur like Hollywood Frank, he had sideburns when people don't have sideburns. John the barber know how to do 1950's hair styles.
Hollywood Frank a barber
John the barber and Hollywood Frank were the best barbers south Philly

Cheers... to more greasy stories!
Excellent video dude.
Hey madman I just got my first pair of chucks
Save up and get ya some engineer boots. You will look alot more legit
Well done brother
Hell yeah! Cool video, dude!
Thx dude!
could greasers wear denim shorts when its hot out?
Yeah, it's really all we wear shorts in general are not in the style. Just stay hydrated 😂
i personally always wear jeans
This is the side of UA-cam nobody talks about... And I think they really should address this. Cause what in the actual...
This is a cool channel. Subbed
I'm a greaser tbh I wear jean jackets or black leather jackets and light blue jeans and black boots and I hang out with greasers and we usually get into fights with jocks and shit
I like older greasers in the 50s-60s. The newer ones aren't the same in my opinion.
Wait to see a video on the pinups lol. cheerz
Tim Mclovin dont do it on the pin ups do it on the grease chicks 😉😁
Yeah ive noticed that during the early 2000's was the viva wave and things were happening. I feel like a lot of it has fizzled out. Well no worries it's coming back bigger and better!
big hair was common in europe in the 1950s and little richard had huge pomp hair, see hairstyles 1956 pathe news on you tube.
Hey dude what were you using in your hair
Dude there's a lot of posers and assholes trying to make greasers look stupid.thx for keeping it real.
well said, madman.
This is nice
am almost fifty an still have a quiff yet the years make it def different
omf when you said "that's the devil's music" I immediately thought of that bit in Great Balls of Fire when the kid (can't remember his name) was like "tHAT'S THE DEVIL'S MUSIC JERRY LEE!!!!"
Yeah great movie lol
Yeah, many don't get it nor the music. You're right though, it's their problem.
hey man that's fuckin different, never seen that b4
I think the natural progression of the greaser is the punk. They fill all the same rolls as the greaser did without all the nostalgia. Listening to music that is generally frowned upon, drinking, drugs, fighting all the normal delinquent things. Wearing cloths nobody else is including many leather jackets. In most schools punks predominately have beef with the more well to do popular kids. The motorcycle became more skateboards, trick bikes and fast forign cars. I would say they are the "true" progression of the greaser without trying to be a greaser lol
I always heard that I looked like Johnny Cash. Always took it as a compliment though 😂 One group of old bikers even took a picture with me 😂
i want to be a greaser but i am black. anything to say about this?
Be one it's your choice and if you want to do it you should
To be honest, I dont like the new greaser look, its just not my taste. But if you do, I totaly respect that!
Ima greaser and lifes good
His hair looks cool in this video
Man watching this makes me miss my blue pompadour. Should be died it black rather than cutting it all off. I'm gonna grow it back now.
Totally agree with what you said about people saying "oh you look like elvis" Im more hard rock 80' hair metal put my hair in a big frizzy undercut hairspray and putty not grease I had a guns n roses t shirt on a biker jacket western boots padlock necklace and looked nothing like elvis and had some bloke say that i looked like elvis 😂😂😂😂 people are ignorant man
Hey Kryptic Art I was wondering what cigarettes those are
Wish there was more greasers. Im like the only one where I live.
I always miss the streams. Why do you always do it when im out with friends.
Greaseball, Greaser
A person of Italian descent. It can also refer to any person of Mediterranean/Southern European descent or Hispanic descent.[163] "Greaser" has taken on a less derogatory connotation since the 1950s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs#G
