Honestly ORAS was truly very good. I have a lot of nostalgia for diamond and pearl since they were the first Pokémon games I picked up, but honestly BDSP was kinda a letdown. I kinda hate how they smothered mega evolutions tbh.
The moment I saw BDSP being developed, I immediately sought out and bought a second hand DS and platinum still in mint condition.
I'm glad I did, since this game's release, they have shot up in price - we aren't the only ones disappointed with this disturbing trend of new games.

I love how you make a point I cannot believe people don't consider: NOT EVERYONE CAN UPDATE A NEW GAME. Sometimes the wifi may be awful, maybe someone lives in the countryside, and a ton of different reasons. A game MUST be playable base, period.

The reason why SWSH sucks despite having a great DLC
Here's a good example, I live in an rv, this means I'm dependent on cellular networks for my downloads and because of this currently have limited data, surely they should be able to comprehend exactly why I may prefer a title be actually finished when I get it, sure, I can still download, but when you have 120gb of data a month, you may be inclined to think before downloading stuff.
Reminds me how Final Fantasy XV was delayed two months because the director didn't want a day 1 patch for those without internet.
Theres also storage space issues, had this issue with my 3ds had to delete games just to get updates done

I also call gen 4 as with HG/SS, i know those were gen 2, but they came out during gen 4, and they added so much. New routes, post game content and exclusive locations for a few legendaries.

I can see why that would be weird/annoying, actually. I like the idea of it, but as mentioned in the video, at least in Gen 7 they physically turned towards you to show care. Waaaay more natural.

That’s the nature of a patch… fixing issues that weren’t there before. What a strange thing to complain about when nothing released (phones, cars, tv’s, or games) are ever released without any issues
That being said, the game is still fundamentally flawed no matter what version you play in. A fair review would be describing the current state, then describing "And it was worse on launch".
Pro tip: Good remakes are supposed to be improvements to the originals rather than just remasters with current gen graphics.

The Giratina origin form battle is just as big of a middle finger as the “battle frontier project” in oras. They basically said “Yeah we know we could have put more platinum content in the game… But screw you this is all you get.”

Megaman 9 and it pretty much started a whole new genre of video games (the retro revival). I'm not gonna compare Megaman 9 to BDSP but using "It's not Gamefreak that made it" as an excuse for a crappy finished product is down right stupid. A bad game is still a bad game no matter who developped it. Even if IntiCreates fucked up Megaman 9, the game would still be garbage despite Capcom not having made it.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone paying attention. We have asked for years for so many features to come back. I'm not sure I've seen a games series so vehemently opposed to keeping good features like Pokémon. It's actually insane.

As someone who’s played for 10 years and counting, I cannot express the amount of times pokemon developers have dropped the ball when it comes to simply just… keeping good features in?? Like, I understand that generations exist for a reason and that there should be notable differentiations between them, but I don’t understand why we can’t rationally decide what mechanics or features should stay and which ones should go. Why did they have to ditch the PSS in gen 7? Why did they have to ditch mega evolution forever when they could’ve just added to the already existing library of megas we’ve got in addition to some new minor features to tie in some character or lore? I understand they need to rely on flashy new gimmicks to sell a game since they’re all somewhat the same in principle, but I just don’t know why we have to ditch systems that work and create new ones that, instead of take note on what made the previous ones good and go off of them, are clunky or underdeveloped.
I am glad this game was made in Unity, because holy moly the mods for this thing are gonna be nuts if people care enough to make them.

I miss the era when games were completed the moment they were released. When they cared about adding stuff that you won't find in any modern pokemon game. I miss the time when the developers used to pour their heart into their games, instead of forcing out soulless mediocre products one after the other.
The Pokemon franchise has grown too big for its own good. Big enough that no matter how many fans have gotten sick of the same old yearly sloppy release, new fans will replace the old ones and the massive sales will keep justify their choices, while at the same time said sales speak louder than any complain uttered and ignored by the pokemon company.
Honestly, I wish they would have given ILCA the go ahead to actually make the game how they saw fit. Masuda from GameFreak still co-directed it and while he gave us some absolutely awesome games, I don’t think he has the passion for it anymore. I mean in like 2017 when talking about Pokémon moving to the switch he said something along the lines of “It is very difficult to make the game, so I hope people don’t get their expectations up too high.” When you’re the biggest gaming franchise in the world, you can’t really be falling back on excuses like that. It’s pretty disappointing to hear.
It seemed like there used to be small little things put in Pokémon that definitely didn’t have to be there, but they were put in anyway. It made it feel like an actual world to explore, and I think it truly showed that the people working on them actually cared about making a quality game.
Until we get entirely new people making the game without restrictions and oversight from GameFreak, I’m not really holding my breath for another great Pokémon game.
last time game freak truly tried was black and white and black and white 2. and those games sold very poorly compared to their other semi copy and paste games. so they just started to copy and paste cause it clearly made them more money then when they actually tried.

And had some great ambitious choices put into the game design as a whole. They had a planned a sequel to x and y. Labeled as x2 and y2. But it was scrapped during the development of x and y. Probably due to them seeing how poorly their last sequel games were
I have no doubt the developers would like to make the games awesome. The issue is time. I really doubt they have enough time to implement everything they want to, since they have to release a game every 1-2 years. If the assholes making the decisions could just allow them to develop a Pokémon game for 5-6 years, we could have the greatest Pokémon experience ever.

An even better solution: Add a hard mode im which the two are disabled (and battle mode to set). Black/White (2) had that option too. That way you can satisfy both casuals and those who want a challenge instead of a button masher
@@solidzack I would be SO happy with that. tho even better - Hard mode should simply let u use Exp Share BUT would make sure you can not get overlevelled like shit, either by means of a much better Level curve and/or by Exp LIMITS until you beat certain gyms (so for instance if Crasher Wake's highest mon is Lv30 your mons cannot surpass Lv30 or max Lv35 until you beat him)

Remember how getting the Regis in gen 3 basically felt like exploring the entire Hoenn region to find treasures that had been hidden away for centuries? There's no sense of reward and accomplishment anymore with legendaries and I don't understand how some people don't see that. Sure the puzzles to get the Regis were pretty obtuse and a guide was likely required for first-time players, but its _FAR_ better than just being handed two powerful legendaries just for throwing money at The Pokémon Company in the past
Yeah, legendaries and mythicals use to actually mean something but Gen 6 said fuck it and just gave them away like nothing.
I spent years wanting Deoxys and when I finally got him in ORAS it didn’t feel like an accomplishment because it was programmed into the game already.
@@penetrasean They are just giving them away because of the competitive aspect of the game. The pokemon company thinks every adult playing the game are into competitive play and would love being handed these legendaries as soon as possible. SWSH were designed entirely to satisfy competitive players. Regular jrpg players hated swsh but the competitive players loved and defended it.
The regi puzzle was the most epic thing in Pokemon for me as a kid.
@@penetrasean At least ORAS kept most legendaries still secret with all the different mirage spots and the requirements to find them, but I agree, very recently in Gen 7-8 they have become way too generous.
I don't know about Sapphire and Ruby,
But Emerald had a guide on decoding Braille,
In the little booklet that came with the game.
Which said something along the lines of:
"Go out there and find these patterns
And you'll get a fun reward at the end."
If they ever made Gen 5 remakes it will be the ultimate definition of fixing something that isn't broke.
I bet they only include the 156 Pokémon in the original Unova Dex and call it a day.

If they made it in the visual style of XD (but updated), and had both b/w 1 and b/w 2 in the same game (something like a new game+), and all of the good features they have now, but fixed (follow/ride mons but actually keeping up with you and scaled properly, Pokemon Amie equivalent, party exp but optional, etc), I would totally get it.
But we all know there is now way in hell any of that is going to happen.

I dont think Unova has many flaws at all, unless one personally dislike the region's designs which is subjective, but a remake could realistically make these changes for a better experience imo
I’ve been replaying HGSS. That was a masterclass of a remake. Took the best of DPPt, the best of crystal, and incorporates them into an lightly improved GS storyline. I was already bummed that ORAS didn’t just remake emerald, but at least they still made a great game with the best of the current hardware. This remake is less than half assed and is really inexcusable. Shame it sold so well. Blind devotion keep giving gamefreak the excuse to half ass.
In my opinion the 2 best games to date in the pokemon franchise are HGSS and Black/White 2, and ive started playing on red/blue.
HGSS simply has everything a pokemon game should have and has the highest replayability even without considering online while black/white 2 has by far the best single player content and story.
What i still have wanted is a Stadium 3 or a remake of stadium 1/2 made by a third party company as i dont trust gamefreak to actually make a good pokemon game anymore(Not ilca tho for the love of god), its such a shame that stadium games that were made over 20 years ago have so much better animations than any of the "new age" 3d pokemon games, when i played stadium when i was a kid i was always amazed at the 3d pokemon and thinking "man in the future the mainline games are all going to be like this it will be amazing", if only i knew how wrong i was lmao.
@@ronalddonais4164 hgss are great games, but because the games themselves have a bad plot, poor pacing, and honestly a bad post-game. I can't agree with you saying they are the best. Hgss are good because it's a remaster of a game that had a lot of improvements on the terrible gen 1, but that's all it has really. (And anyways, the games themselves were rushed out to hell and back, see the fact the cyndaquil and charmander lines have the same base stats across the whole evolutionary lin3)

@@GabrielHdzLP Eh. I know the fans couldn't have predicted the sheer amount of issues, but the signs of an subpar remake were plentiful. I loved gen IV, but I could tell right away that I was better off just replaying Platinum. No fault to those who never played DPPt, of course. I know the original aren't accessible.
I feel like Miitopia implements the “happiness” mechanic so much better; characters in your party form bonds with each other and gain powerful abilities like teaming up in a single turn, shielding damage for someone, sharing food, or briefly becoming more powerful when their friend is KO’d out of revenge, and these buffs become can stack with multiple bonds.
These things sound game breaking at first, but the difference between Miitopia’s system and Pokemon’s is that the bonds in Miitopia are built into the core game experience and the battle difficulty is balanced around these buffs. As a result, choosing which bonds to strengthen is not only a fun thing to do for the whole fantasy of the game (“an RPG starring you and your friends”) but also a strategic element of play based on the roles everyone has, especially in the late- and post-game.
If battles in Pokemon were harder, stuff like increased crit rate, free focus stashes, and dodging 100% accuracy moves would feel less like cheating and more like a fair and strategic powerup.
Happiness/affinity rewards are definitely at their best when they are built into game mechanics. Xenoblade 1 has an understated but still present reward system for your party members having higher affinity; in chain attacks where all three party members attack together, you get higher chances of getting extra attacks if your characters like each other more. Fire emblem three houses also has an affinity reward system, where characters with high support levels give each other extra accuracy and sometimes damage when attacking near each other. While it’s not a hard game, this mechanic definitely comes in handy and is almost necessary to land some attacks on the hardest difficulty.
This kind of comes back to the balance of the game, and the fact that all of these mechanics are optional. In xenoblade party members gain affinity just through playing the game, but to max it out between everyone you need to go out of your way (plus the in-battle bonuses aren’t busted unless you’re at max). In fire emblem you can simply choose not to watch support conversations. The fact that the difficulty in bdsp isn’t built around the friendship mechanic, and as pointed out in the video it’s not a skippable mechanic, just makes it another thing that strips challenge and strategy from the game.
Miitopia is about Me, Naruto, Bill Gates, and Knuckles on a wacky adventure. What's this "friend" thing you're talking about?
It's also balanced by the fact there's quite a few bad things that can happen too. Enemies have several different ways of removing party members from the battle temporarily or rendering them next to useless, (Blowing them away, eating them, stealing their weapon, etc.) Every personality has at least one unhelpful ability attached to it and even the friendship could cause a healer to cover for an ally and get themselves killed which you really don't want.

@@FedoraKirb Tanks are a part of the game I do think is kind of poorly balanced. They're a loose cannon which I assume is the point but there's far too many drawbacks and not enough benefits. Most of the time you're better off without them.
Playing as the tank can remedy this a bit but there are still better class choices for yourself that don't limit you so much.
Imagine waiting over 10 years for them to remake Sinnoh. Only for them to do this.

If they want to do "retro" remakes, I'd love them to take the Final Fantasy Pixel Remake approach--the Pokemon and trainers all keep the 2D artstyle of the DS games, add some flashy battle effects, orchestrate the music. I think people would be really receptive to that.

Honestly, Bidoof has some pretty strong abilities on its own. One ignores the opponents stat buffs, one doubles the stat changes it receives and it’s hidden ability buffs a random stat while nerfing another one.
It's no wonder most Shonen protagonists always win.
Unironically the bugs and glitches were the most interesting things about these games. Like ohh boy, it’s amazing how these glitches are on the scale never seen in this franchise since red and blue (which basically obliterated any integrity . Hell the scale of some of these glitches somehow rivals the 8F glitch in red and blues which that glitch was literally a code execution glitch that allowed the player to edit their Pokémon PKhex style in game.
Ok, but see, that's really a problem though, isn't it. A game has to rely on bugs and glitches that are supposed to be fixed to enjoy it? That's not fun. Red & Blue had glitches and bugs too but they were complete games that you didn't need to break or hack and rely on the bugs or glitches to have fun.

Side note: Nintendo is charging *$10* per rom for Gen 1 & 2 Pokemon games on the 3DS. Meanwhile at the same time Atlus isn't even charging $10 for *any* SMT game on the same console right now despite all of them being better than anything Gamefreak have ever relesed and way more recently made.
The bugs and glitches are STILL my fav part of the game. Been grinding item duplication. It’s almost like having an action replay lmao just no pkhex to generate an entire Pokémon.
I’m still on 1.1.2. And I’m waiting to update till something cool is released or a new glitch is uncovered for the new version.
Red and Blue are engineering marvels inside small cartridges and the devs did their damnest to put as much content in em as possible, bugs and glitches be damned, and its respectable. You can say what you will about the og Red and Blue release, but to be frank those games refused to die. The wildest and most broken of shit could happen and it wouldn't crash. The remakes however are more fragile than twice repaired glass, the new games just feel lower than the bare minimum in my opinion.

It was already a red flag when they advertised it as a "Faithful remake". I don't want a faithful remake of D/P. Those games had massive problems that should be fixed, like the lack of fire pokemon for most of the game, the low amount of pokemon to catch in the first half of the game, and consumable TM just to name a few. Those changes wouldn't make it faithful enough apparently, but forced exp share is okay I guess. The only problem they ended up fixing was HMs.

To be honest when gamefreak does something different we do kinda hate and complain about it. Like trials, megas, zmoves and etc. Face it pokemon is ready to die, PlA is going to fail cause it's too different and just looks bad. Nah they just copied SwSh then brought back Pokémon that wasn’t there. You can tell because of the Pokémon that were available for SwSh had butchered movesets and the returning ones had same moves from UsUm including the moves that weren’t in SwSh that still isn’t in BdSp like signal beam.
It really feels like GF was breathing down ILCA’s necks here, preventing any creative input on their side. If I remember correctly, the leaked concept art showed off lots of platinum content, so my best guess about why they fell on the rest of it is because GF didn’t want it to overshadow Legends Arceus
Plus I’m gonna cut them some slack for the animations, they almost definitely had no input on that matter
Edit: also wish some important npcs had affection on their pokemon, it’d balance it out while keeping the “power of friendship” stuff

@@charliez077 Well honestly that's probably another reason to defend ILCA. They're newer, and are probably happy to even be able to replicate the experience of a pokemon game in general. After all, imitation is a decent way of learning for amateurs. Who I'd blame is GF who gave the project to inexperienced devs, dooming it to be a limited experience. It's the equivalent of expecting a level 5 Psyduck to deal with a level 14 Cranidos because "type advantage".

I find it quite crazy that Battle Revolution, a Wii game from gen 4 that is *thirteen years old* , visually obliterates this 2021 Switch "remake". Polygon count aside, the combat presentation is parsecs ahead of BDSP.
If you were to tell us when we were young and playing both DP and Battle Revolution, that Pokemon games over a decade in the future still wouldn't even come close to what we can already see and play on our home tv, there's no way we would've believed it.

Been saying this for years. The last time I enjoyed a Pokémon battle was during the GameCube Wii days. Colosseum, XD, BR. All visually impactful. It’s insane how we downgraded and people still accept this trash GF puts out

The sad thing is that people will still continue to get hyped for future Pokemon games even after all of this mediocrity.
If I was given a free Mew or something like that when I was a kid playing my first Pokémon games, the experience would not have been as deep or stuck with me the way it did. It was the feeling of overcoming actual challenging situations with the Pokémon I had raised that made it special. As a kid, you don’t realize how important that is until after it happens. if a kid is given an OP game-breaking tool, they’re gonna use it. Would Pokémon have been such a lasting experience to all of us, and stayed in our hearts, if we had less of an adventure and more of an easy game-sweep? I can only hope this BS really WILL be detrimental to how much new generations of kids even like Pokémon, causing them to not KEEP liking it as they grow up the way we did… and then in turn causing drop in sales. That’s the only way I can see Pokémon being forced to change.
This is kinda how I feel about it too and also emphasizes the problem that these "legendary" pokemon end up not feeling very rare or special at all. For how much people insist that we can't criticize these games because they're made for kids, they sure don't seem to appreciate how important details and world building like that are for kids and making these legendary pokemon actually feel rare is part of why we have fond memories of them in the first place.
Like I feel like a lot more kids these days are gonna just "grow out of it" because there's no real emotional connection with what makes the series special anymore.

To get mew or jirachi you must have played SWSH and Let's Go, meaning, you know what a Mew and a Jirachi is. You get them at level 5 so they are not broken yet, but need to be trained. And they're not even that broken.
Also, as a kid you just wanted the strongest pokemon, you were not thinking: "I sure hope the league is challenging"
When i was kid i exploited a level 100 charizard given to me and barely raised my team. I pulled theough the game but when i didnt have access to that lv 100 char anymore i actually balanced my team out and learned you cant rely on one thing all the time. Switching out mons was the biggest lesson to me as a kid and it was a lesson i valued, which is why the forced EXP all pisses me off so much because it eliminates the lesson for future generations and weakens the experience.
I was given a free Jirachi from Colosseum bonus disc, and I still loved Ruby as a kid. It even comes at level 5 iirc, so you can use it in early game. It's really not a big deal.
I feel bad for people who grew up with gen 4, and after all the long wait, they get... whatever this is.

Regarding the affection mechanic, I was thinking it could be an interesting use of it if they were to boost your Pokemon's IVs rather than unlocking cheats.
The series was always about bonding with your Pokemon so it always seemed a bit jarring when the best way to get the strongest Pokemon was to selectively breed ones with the highest stats, so encouraging you to bond with your team by making them the strongest versions of themselves would be a cool way to do it IMO
Not saying to remove IV breeding entirely, just as an alternative way to get those max stats.

You can't even really call it faithful due to the forced EXP Share being such a big change.
The game needs to be balanced with both the EXP share and the friendliness buffs in mind, especially in the late-game.
@@legoferrari14 The Affection should be optional and if used it shouldn’t happen as often. Every turn there should be a 5% at best chance for something to happen. Remove the “I lived so you wouldn’t be sad” option or for balancing reasons make it a “once per battle” function where it affects only one Pokémon in your party rather then a “once per Pokémon per battle” function.
I stated this in a different comment, but I'll state it here. The mechanics in the game that made previous games easier should be welcome in this game just because they made an already difficult game, a lot harder through things like evs in ai trainers, held items in the elite 4(don't even get me started on Cynthia), and preferred stat buffing natures on ai trainers, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not saying to have the game be EXACTLY the same as the ds version, unless when you say that you mean, make the game like pokemon platinum. What I would ideally want, is a game where evs and natures in main game won't make or break almost any battles. Imo, the place where you should be technical in planning evs should be in the battle factory or in competitive play, not main game.
the real "definitive" gen 4 experience is pokemon mystery dungeon sky, it actually incorporates Dialga and Palkia's abilities into the plot

man, the pokemon charm has finally worn off for me. Every single prior pokemon game, no matter how much i didnt enjoy it, i would always finish to the end. This is the only time i didn’t finish a pokemon game. I couldnt even bring myself to finish the second gym. This game is unbelievably boring, like it takes effort to create such a boring, mindless product. I had it with this series.
I was going to get Brilliant Diamond for Christmas but on a gut feeling, I decided to go for Monster Hunter Stories 2. After seeing this video and the reaction online, I dodged a bullet.

Faithful to me is even less of an argument when you consider this: When you played those games, Diamond and Pearl, it was not just to play another Pokemon game but you were playing the most up to date game in the series with the newest features etc. So when you think of a Pokemon remake, you don't just want the same game but in 3D (especially if it's ugly 3D) but you want it to make the region the newest and best version of a Pokemon game and have the most recent advancement just like it used to. These remakes are useless. I would never play this game over the originals. Playing it would just make me sad at sight of this bothched remake and witnessing how they failed us. We were expecting this for so long, and rightfully so since they put out remakes regularly and they must have known how excited we were about the Sinnoh remakes seeing as we are so vocal, with concepts and wishes being plastered all over the internet. It is just a slap in the face.
Absolutely agreed! Hell this is kinda a hot take but I rather prefer the Let's Go games over BDSP ( Which is REALLY saying something about them) because at least they added some things to make it feel different like megas, battling red, blue, and green, playing as pikachu/Eevee at one point and the walking pokemon are 10x bettering execution!

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were so good both for casual players and competitive players. Not to mention Heart Gold and Soul Silver which were BETTER than the original and honestly the best games in the whole series by my standards.
It just sucks that the love put into those remakes wasn't put into this one. I'd been wanting a revisitation of these for a while now and I feel I'm constantly disappointed the last few years.
I mean I’m here for the glitches, the original Gen 4 release had a void glitch, Gen 1 has a ton of glitches, and it’s one of the most fun parts of those games even though they’re unintentional.
I won't dispute that, but when the most enjoyable part of a game is some thing that shouldn't be there, that might be an issue.
Glitches make for amazing post game content and/or add replayability, whenever I replay Pokemon Yellow, I always play around with the Mew glitch to get pokemon I like but can't catch

Yea the only good part about friendship, but look at SwSh they changed it for some shit soup cooking, we're never getting those back. Fun fact i always thought Buzzwole was weird, even when i was using him, but when i was raising his friendship i felt like feeding a big animal(like feeding a tiger or a elephant by hands) and since that moment I think he's cute and I love his design

I think that the writing's on the wall for the franchise right now. It doesn't bode well that the best games put out by the franchise since 2016 were Let's Go.
Game Freak's current design philosophy is so detached from Gen 5 Game Freak's that there is little to no way a remake of Black/White and their sequels would ever work. Basically they reached their peak in terms of design and writing with Gen 5 and seeing their history of decisions made with the 3D titles it's safe to assume they're going way downhill from there. Above all this I hope they don't even touch Gen 5 at all.

I agree with mostly everything. I saw a video regarding the development of this game and it showed that the concept art from ILCA shows a BDSP that looks a lot like legends arceus. Im not sure how true it is, but it seems like ILCA wanted to make a full blown,full scale game but was forced to downgrade the game into a DP port.

@@neoonewingedren1836 as a noob to pokemon games (but I understand types and such) so far the standard trainers have been a breeze but the first gym and mars kicked my ass. I still only barely scraped by on mars after grinding. I've just reached Eterna city and after playing both BDSP and Renegade platinum to eaterna city (just got here 5 minutes ago) I'd say that I'm returning BDSP lmao. It's perfectly balanced, I think! Highly recommended.

My friend bought this game for me knowing I loved gen 4 so I gave it a shot. After gym 3 I was so bored out of my mind with the mind numbingness I returned it. Drove to my parents... Dug out a shoebox. Found platinum and my dsi. Beat that shit in a week. Wtf happened to my favorite gen.

Ironically, it feels like that's exactly what they tried to do with the black and white anime (main series not short series like generations/legends etc) and it turned out awful, so that's not a farfetched scenario.

Do you honestly think a delay would have "fixed" this game? What they would have changed in a delay is what they are patching in now (music, bug fixes, etc.) And the music is not the issue with Gamefreak's interpretation of Sinnoh.
A bad game can be a bad game regardless of dev-time. And that quote doesn't even work in an era of free patches & online games. I guess No Man'sSky, & FF14 are both terrible games because their release was weak.

I sailed the high seas and was still left like I lost something playing through this game. I couldn't bear playing this game by the 6th gym, so I just replayed Platinum.

What really bothers me about BDSP is that they literally didn't improve anywhere, I've expected it to be similar to SWSH gameplay.
Not only that, People have to realise that this carbon copy of a 15 year old DS game is freaking 60$ PER GAME! If another game company would do that, they would be cancelled as hard as EA, Bethesa, etc by the gaming community.
But because the brand Pokémon is slapped on it, some fans refuse to remove their nostalgia glasses and defend these games with every inch of their sweat, coming up with excuses (or copium) defending these cash grabs of lazy games they wasted their money on.
It's the first time in my entirely Pokemon journey that I've skipped a Pokemon game.

and it makes it really UNFAIR for challanges. for nuzlockes and stuff the player gets a freaking boost! its luck not skill! if you're gonna die in nuzlockes you have to admit it but the pokemon just endures the attack and it doesnt die. its an advantage but very unfair.

Well while I haven’t been hit by toxic I can say that the toxic orb “badly poisons” you and the answer is no unfortunately.
We cant forget the decision to include fairy type, which completely undermines the difficulty of the original games, and what made Cynthia so much more difficult. Her garchomp didn't have a direct weakness before, but now its hard countered by a fairy type pokemon simply existing.
See this is why I didn't like fairy types all the way back in their introduction in X and Y, they made dragon Pokemon a complete non-issue when they're supposed to be a really rare, powerful type that's tough to counter. They weren't even that hard usually, most of them (like garchomp) had a second type that gave them a quad weakness to ice so just slap ice beam on literally anything with a decent special stat and they go down in two hits, or setup a hail/blizzard combo and they die in one.
One of the coolest, most threatening types if you're unprepared and now they get pathetically stonewalled by a pretty common type of doe-eyed cutesy things. Why yes, I am still salty about it all these years later.
I already decided against buying it after I saw the graphics and am happy to hear that it was a good decision for many more reasons.
There are 2 approaches for remakes as far as I'm concerned. HGSS chose to master the gen 2 games and add some new content, but mainly just made the original content near perfect and including newer mons and the islands and expanded postgame. ORAS, despite not including some key Emerald content is the other approach. They at least updated the story and included a LOT of new content including the primal legendaries and a whole bunch of new megas and ALSO including a bunch of newer mons.
BDSP did NEITHER of these methods and it's painfully obvious that Gamefreak put in the bare minimum effort. It didn't master the old content while including some key new stuff nor did it try to make a large deviation from the originals to try something new. It's literally just a 3D port of diamond/pearl. I refuse to buy new Pokemon games, despite being a fan since gen 1 because Gamefreak has gotten so lazy that they think they don't need to try at all and people will still buy their games. Even Sw/Sh was unacceptable, but BD/SP is really the last straw. I'll either emulate their games or just stop playing their games altogether til I see improvement.
My thoughts exactly, Sw/Sh was decent and i have had a lot of fun in dynamax adventures, but after ultra sun and moon it feels like everything is going down hill.
I just can't get over how bad the art direction looks. The DS titles looked chibi because they had to be. The 3D chibi used in BDSP is just awful, like everything's made of plastic. But hey, Nintendo's never winning my loyalty back as long as home exists and my 3ds games and earlier will one day be permanently cut off from the future generations so.
Don't make Nintendo the guilty one here, they made some mistakes (especially regarding their online service) but they aren't the ones who take care of most of the pokemon franchise, gamefreak makes some games (occasionally some other developers make them, like with BDSP) and the pokemon company take care of everything else, including creating the deadlines for the games, so they are probably the ones that made the game have a holiday release date, and also made it be in the chibi style, because apparently the developers wanted to make it like sword and shield.

Actually Pokémon Yellow was the first 3rd version, not Crystal. Crystal was the first, to implement the female trainer and sprite animation.
Actually Japanese blue version is the first 3rd version, fixed many issues in the og red and green even made jinx catchable in the wild. The international versions of red and blue use Japanese blue as a base
Anyways yellow feels like a bad 3rd version because only being able to get pikachu as an starter and story changing feels inferior

7:34 funny enough the Pokémon manga actually integrated those math puzzles in fantine’s actual strategy because those puzzles were meant to gauge her opponents rationality and see whether or not they would be susceptible to illusions. That on top of the high elevation with disorient most challengers she fights.
How... How does being competent at arithmetic translate to rationality and seeing through illusions? Granted the manga tends to operate in a weird, ill-defined reality from what I can vaguely recall, but still. What?
@@mori6434 for one thing the questions weren’t basic for example one of the math problems we see was (1354+381)x2. These questions were fantines way of evaluating how rational and more specifically logical her opponents are. Because those who see the world with logic will have a harder time to see through her mismagius’s illusions that defy logic and reason.
And on top of the puzzling math problems and mismagius’s naturally formed illusions, the elevation and heat from the gym is meant to further disorient her opponents. And as a final layer of misdirection she has trick room in play the moment mismagius hits the field with only a subtle hint that trick room is even in effect.
So in order to fight fantine you have to deal with complex math, the heat and heights of the gym itself, ghostly illusions born from mismagius, and trick room in effect that you are not told is played directly. Good luck fighting with a clear head under all of these conditions.

The funniest thing about this game to me is that it was made in the unity engine. The most successful media franchise in the world couldn’t be bothered to use a more powerful engine or make its own.

I didn't get BDSP because of the reasons listed here. We didn't need the game to leak or anything to know this is exactly how the game would turn out after the promotional materials dropped.

Funny enough, Cynthia would've destroyed me if not for that friendship bs. It's literally what saved me. My team were in the 60s in levels, highest being my Garchomp at 64. This elite 4 is very challenging. Its just that the exp share makes the rest of the game, save for Maylene(her Lucario is broken AF) easy.

The abusing pokemon bit reminded me of a side thing you could do in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. There were disks that you could find that contained mini challenges once you progressed to a point where you could run the disks (my favorite was the four-way metronome battle). One of the challenges was to defeat the opposing party within a set number of turns. The preset pokemon were less than stellar matchups, but the third in the party could defeat both opponents. The only thing was you didn't get enough time. I had to look it up and you had to intentionally make one of your pokemon faint by making one attack the other. That's when the game made me take a step back and step out of the immersion. Because at that point the pokemon weren't your friends. They weren't your partners. They were a means to an end. And even if in-game it's a simulation, it was still troubling to me..
Also technically bitter herbs wouldn't be poison based on the fact that it does heal the pokemon, but it would be like forcing someone to get sick to give them disgusting medication (Buckley's comes to mind), or getting injured just to pour peroxide on the wound. If someone did that to you, you would end up despising them too.
I remember that disk.
You have to make your Salamence faint by using your Dusclops's ice beam on it, so you can call Houndoom. You can't just switch because your opponents were Wynaut and Wobbuffet with the Shadow Tag ability. And Houndoom was the only one in your team that could deal with them.
When I found out the solution to that disk I was like... Wtf? Why do I have to make my own Pokémon faint?? I mean it was a nice puzzle but it made me feel so bad.
I LOVED the affection mechanic. Finally, the game's message of bonding and friendship is made tangible. You are objectively a better trainer for bonding with your pokemon.
Execution is about as bad as it can be. Should've remained optional

I hate that when people bring up that the animation and game design is bad people immediately jump on them to ask if they "want the animators to die" or "asking the game designers to make it is to much" but beyond the fact that it is their JOB to release a good product and it is not impossible for them to make. The pokemon company is ALREADY crunching them. BDSP literally didn't have the music finished for release thats how bad it was. I want good pokemon games that take 5-8 years to release and I am not joking.

I stopped playing Pokémon after the 7th Generation. All of the 8th Generation is just a disappointment.
I didn't even care about the remakes of my favorite Generation.
Pokémon gets worse from game to game, but nothing will change if people gonna buy it nonetheless.

I stopped after carefully examining the Gen 7 games before buying. They were simply not as good as X & Y and ORAS so i knew i had to save my money and retire from Pokemon.
As someone who's played both Gen 6 and 7
Gen 6 < Gen 7
I would use affection in the older games and I remember the benefits of affection not occuring near as much as they did in bdsp.
