@@theironsword1954 that's interesting, I think this version, is far superior to radix' version. IMO many of their verses simply don't fit the rhythm of the song and they have to stretch words out unaturally which really ruins the flow of the enitre song for me. It's really interesting how wildly preferences can differ from one person to another.

@@firenzarfrenzy4985 Yeah, I get that. Undertale theory communities and data miners are probably your best bet to figure out who Gaster is. Basically, he's a surprisingly human-looking (skeleton) Monster who disappeared ages ago, around the CORE. He was Alphys' predecessor. The theories are that he made Sans and Papyrus. Apparently, you can hack Undertale to find him hidden, with his theme "Dark, yet darker" playing. So in summary, hidden Monster is rumoured to have an influence on the Dark World, hence the inclusion of "Dark, yet darker" in the Darkners' songs. I'm just as confused as you are.

The way Alex says “call”, “grow”, and “glow” at 3:05, 3:20 and 3:23... the malice in his voice, how he _growls_ it with such intensity and sadistic glee... I was already a pretty big fan of King before listening to this cover, but this has cemented him as one of my favorite characters in Deltarune.

Well, that or it's a real-life term, it basically means "You were destined to lose from the start", it's a gambling/cards game term basically saying you were never supposed to win (And yes, people cheat that way I believe)
I love the difference between Asgore and King. Asgore while fighting you is so emotional and doesn’t want to do anything to you. However King, while still emotional, is more anger than sadness and regret. Whenever you tried to talk to Asgore, all he did was nod. Now talking to King results in him coming back to the same conclusion of Lightners being evil.
...Damn, it just sunk in for me after hearing this song but, The Chaos King is the exact opposite of Asgore from the last game. The entire fight with Asgore, he was hesitant and didn't want to fight. In this fight, Chaos King wants nothing but to fight and destroy you.

I find this song being an interesting parallel to Bergentrückung. Both things talk about fighting against the human/lightners but while in Asgore's fight there was an almost triumphant tone even while Asgore doesn't want to hurt them. The King of Spades is bloodthirsty and wants to kill their opponent. There's a chorus in Bergentrückung, while in the Chaos King, it's just him singing alone with a chorus that plays behind the song. And Asgore does what he's doing because he wants what will free his people, and doesn't believe that it makes him a hero. While the KoS believes he is a hero to his people, they're all afraid of being locked up by him. Such an interesting difference they made in their respective stories. One ruled with Love and gave his people Hope, the other ruled with Fear and it led to his downfall. This song for the (not) Musical was AMAZING! Alex really did some excellent work to the lyrics and gave it that spirit of fighting against a Mad King hellbent on destroying his enemies. The parts where the singing sounded growly and deeper were so spine-tingling, I got goosebumps listening to it! Well done Man of the Internet! (^^)v EDIT: Wow, that's a lot of likes! OboroHime94 King abused his son and threatened to kill Lancer before the fight starts, he also just wants to kill the Lightners, Asgore is reluctant, but still fights because he has to, hell even in the real game, King just straight up tries to kill Lancer before you fight him. Basically, it means that if you never discipline your child, they’ll grow up to be spoiled, like the people who always ask for the manager when they can’t get the refund they want. It can be taken way out of context by some, though, who use it to justify abuse, which isn’t what it’s saying to do at all.

@Tetrahedrony To extend it further, Asgore losing his son drove him to such extremes because he loved his son so much. The Spades King, by contrast, literally threatens to kill his own son before you even get to see his face properly.
@Ariella blogs craddock I honestly think either Gaster or Kris is the night. Gaster makes sense and when you think about it, so does Kris. He manages to take full control in the end and when you first save the game he already has a save file, implying that hes been before. He might have gotten the king of spaces to take over the kingdom to stop you, the player. It's easy to look like a derkener when you have red eyes and look slightly creepy.
KneeCola77 Spade king is pretty much opossite to Asgore despite having almost the same story. Asgore was trapped by this other race for a millenia, and yet, he wanted peace and only declared war on those after they violently murdered his two children (and even then, he regretted it inmediately). Spade King was pissed since the exact moment the lightners betrayed him.

Chaos King: the king of chaos! The ki- Jevil: *[softly]* Don’t. “The king of pain! Has answered the call!” *but nobody came, as if this phone line is reserved for someone else.
Long comment, but there's a few things I'd love to highlight. Might add more later. TLDR; This song is King Spade's justification that what he's doing is right disguised as a battle cry. There's many things in the lyrics pointing to this. The entire beginning half is a perfect explanation of how the king got this way. The line that best captures this, to me, is "No choice. Only violence and villainy." He's accepted his role as the bad guy, and he's passed it down to his son whether he intended to or not. He believes that only through violence can they take back their lives, and to commit violence without remorse, you have to be a villain. It's a great primer to get into his head and sets the tone for the rest of this song beautifully. "Hate is all they'll ever know" is the King projecting his broken, jaded heart onto the party. Hate isn't all they'll know. It's all _he_ knows. "And who are you to dare my domain" is very much a "who are you to tell me how to raise my child" sort of line, and it wonderfully captures his view on what the Lighteners are doing. They're invading this space with absolutely no regard or context. "The King of chaos, the king of pain/ Has answered the call" What call? He answers in the next line. "And who are you to challenge the Knight?" He's answered to the Knight. Someone who likely promised him his people's cries would no longer be ignored. Someone who had given him a tool to take what rightly belongs to his people. It's a bit similar to Asgore, but with a darker spin on it that he truly believes it to be right. And that sentiment is cemented in both "only a fool who would try and stop the reign" (which also sounds like "stop the rain", something that nobody can really do) and "only a fool who thinks they're in the right". The line "Heroes stand tall/Your heroes always fall" is a fantastic parallel between him saying that he's a hero to his people and the fact that to Darkeners, the Lighteners were everything. It's him saying that he no longer hails the Lighteners as heroes, a direct irony on how he's become a fallen hero in the eyes of his people and his son, and, this one is a bit of a stretch, a jab to the party about how they've corrupted his son's view of him. I love the "spare the rod and spoil the spade" line so much particularly and is why I am even writing this though. It's a great highlight on how he probably believes children ought to be raised. Not just that though, it highlights his idea on the party acting on the defensive and trying to reason with him. If they were really in the right, why would they spoil the rod? If he's in the wrong, then don't give him any sympathy. It's his justification to himself both in his abuse of his son and in combating the Lighteners and those who side with them. EDIT: This comment has barely existed three minutes and I already wanna add, can't believe I forgot, but I love the aggression in Alex's voice as he sings this song. He sounds threatening and yet vaguely distressed, and the growling tones and strained shouts, especially around the end, are absolutely amazing! God, everyone who worked on this, take a good rest. You'll probably need it. The artist probably has cramped up hands trying to draw that son of a bitch, and I'm sure Alex tore up his throat here.

King Glurch he abuses his son, while Asgore loves his children very much. Also, Asgore killed the kids to give hope to his subjects, while King is a total meanie to his subjects (NO SWEARING-)
@@glurchdragmire7473 I mean, consider the fact that Asgore reluctantly battles the protagonist after several minutes of dialogue and waiting, and if you beat the fight and spare him, beat Omega Flowey, then load your save file and spare him again, Flowey doesn't step in. Instead, Asgore kills himself because he doesn't want you to be unable to escape. Meanwhile, in Deltarune, King grabs his own son by the neck, threatens to throw him off the edge, then battles the three heroes with no remorse and then guilt trips the innocent Ralsei into healing him. Lancer also says that the King "made (the enemies) listen to him", which makes me think he's enforced that law a little bit vigorously.

Clever, clever. People here keep noticing really cool stuff! This song is far more packed with double meaning than most of the ones I'd seen in UT the musical. Not to hate on it, just that I think it's a good mark of improvement that they've managed to pack more meaning into each line!
Triple meaning - "Your heroes always fall", referring to our characters always falling down somewhere. "Your heroes always fall", referring to the ingame death of a character have they take too much damage "Your heroes always fall", saying that from our perception, he's a hero to his people, and that he falls at the end.
Three more meanings! 4.) He's no longer the hero he used to be to his people. 5.) A snide remark to you for turning his son against him. 6.) He no longer views Lighteners as his heroes (as Lighteners used to be like gods to the Darkeners).

0:34 The way MOTI spits out that "bow" is extremely powerful. It sounds like the lighting sound effect from the Asriel Dreemurr fight to me. 2:41 "You've been dealt a losing hand." In cards, which is what Lancer, the kings, Clover, the Hathys and the Rudinns are, there is a term called a "hand". This is the collection of cards you are currently holding. So by saying you were dealt a losing a hand, the king is saying you were doomed from the beginning, or since the cards were dealt.

Holy shit this song is AMAZING. Alex beckham never ceases to amaze me with his singing skills, especially while simultaneously voicing a character. He’s able to make chaos king sound threatening, prideful and annoyed all at the same time while making each line sound spectacular. Even on simpler lines such as “say goodbye, tonight the lightners die” he somehow finds a way to make it sound powerful and entertaining. The writing for the song is great as well, a lot of the lyrics are clever and true to chaos kings character and the choir in the back add so much on top of it. Seriously listening to this makes me want to sing along at full volume. Amazing job by man on the internet, by far one of my favourites

I still don't get the dark yet darker thing. I don't know if this is a game motif but it's certainly a motif in MOTI's songs such as in the Jevil one. All I'm getting is something to do with ghaster but it's annoying as I don't know anything about him nor how to find out

Basically, he's a surprisingly human-looking (skeleton) Monster who disappeared ages ago, around the CORE. He was Alphys' predecessor. The theories are that he made Sans and Papyrus. Apparently, you can hack Undertale to find him hidden, with his theme "Dark, yet darker" playing.
So in summary, hidden Monster is rumoured to have an influence on the Dark World, hence the inclusion of "Dark, yet darker" in the Darkners' songs.

The way Alex says “call”, “grow”, and “glow” at 3:05, 3:20 and 3:23... the malice in his voice, how he _growls_ it with such intensity and sadistic glee... I was already a pretty big fan of King before listening to this cover, but this has cemented him as one of my favorite characters in Deltarune.

I love the difference between Asgore and King. Asgore while fighting you is so emotional and doesn’t want to do anything to you. However King, while still emotional, is more anger than sadness and regret.
Whenever you tried to talk to Asgore, all he did was nod. Now talking to King results in him coming back to the same conclusion of Lightners being evil.
...Damn, it just sunk in for me after hearing this song but, The Chaos King is the exact opposite of Asgore from the last game. The entire fight with Asgore, he was hesitant and didn't want to fight. In this fight, Chaos King wants nothing but to fight and destroy you.

I find this song being an interesting parallel to Bergentrückung. Both things talk about fighting against the human/lightners but while in Asgore's fight there was an almost triumphant tone even while Asgore doesn't want to hurt them. The King of Spades is bloodthirsty and wants to kill their opponent. There's a chorus in Bergentrückung, while in the Chaos King, it's just him singing alone with a chorus that plays behind the song. And Asgore does what he's doing because he wants what will free his people, and doesn't believe that it makes him a hero. While the KoS believes he is a hero to his people, they're all afraid of being locked up by him. Such an interesting difference they made in their respective stories.
One ruled with Love and gave his people Hope, the other ruled with Fear and it led to his downfall.
This song for the (not) Musical was AMAZING! Alex really did some excellent work to the lyrics and gave it that spirit of fighting against a Mad King hellbent on destroying his enemies. The parts where the singing sounded growly and deeper were so spine-tingling, I got goosebumps listening to it! Well done Man of the Internet! (^^)v

@Tetrahedrony To extend it further, Asgore losing his son drove him to such extremes because he loved his son so much. The Spades King, by contrast, literally threatens to kill his own son before you even get to see his face properly.
@Ariella blogs craddock I honestly think either Gaster or Kris is the night. Gaster makes sense and when you think about it, so does Kris. He manages to take full control in the end and when you first save the game he already has a save file, implying that hes been before. He might have gotten the king of spaces to take over the kingdom to stop you, the player. It's easy to look like a derkener when you have red eyes and look slightly creepy.

Spade king is pretty much opossite to Asgore despite having almost the same story. Asgore was trapped by this other race for a millenia, and yet, he wanted peace and only declared war on those after they violently murdered his two children (and even then, he regretted it inmediately). Spade King was pissed since the exact moment the lightners betrayed him.

Long comment, but there's a few things I'd love to highlight. Might add more later. TLDR; This song is King Spade's justification that what he's doing is right disguised as a battle cry. There's many things in the lyrics pointing to this.
The entire beginning half is a perfect explanation of how the king got this way. The line that best captures this, to me, is "No choice. Only violence and villainy." He's accepted his role as the bad guy, and he's passed it down to his son whether he intended to or not. He believes that only through violence can they take back their lives, and to commit violence without remorse, you have to be a villain. It's a great primer to get into his head and sets the tone for the rest of this song beautifully.
"Hate is all they'll ever know" is the King projecting his broken, jaded heart onto the party. Hate isn't all they'll know. It's all _he_ knows.
"And who are you to dare my domain" is very much a "who are you to tell me how to raise my child" sort of line, and it wonderfully captures his view on what the Lighteners are doing. They're invading this space with absolutely no regard or context.
"The King of chaos, the king of pain/ Has answered the call" What call? He answers in the next line. "And who are you to challenge the Knight?" He's answered to the Knight. Someone who likely promised him his people's cries would no longer be ignored. Someone who had given him a tool to take what rightly belongs to his people. It's a bit similar to Asgore, but with a darker spin on it that he truly believes it to be right. And that sentiment is cemented in both "only a fool who would try and stop the reign" (which also sounds like "stop the rain", something that nobody can really do) and "only a fool who thinks they're in the right".
The line "Heroes stand tall/Your heroes always fall" is a fantastic parallel between him saying that he's a hero to his people and the fact that to Darkeners, the Lighteners were everything. It's him saying that he no longer hails the Lighteners as heroes, a direct irony on how he's become a fallen hero in the eyes of his people and his son, and, this one is a bit of a stretch, a jab to the party about how they've corrupted his son's view of him.
I love the "spare the rod and spoil the spade" line so much particularly and is why I am even writing this though. It's a great highlight on how he probably believes children ought to be raised. Not just that though, it highlights his idea on the party acting on the defensive and trying to reason with him. If they were really in the right, why would they spoil the rod? If he's in the wrong, then don't give him any sympathy. It's his justification to himself both in his abuse of his son and in combating the Lighteners and those who side with them.
EDIT: This comment has barely existed three minutes and I already wanna add, can't believe I forgot, but I love the aggression in Alex's voice as he sings this song. He sounds threatening and yet vaguely distressed, and the growling tones and strained shouts, especially around the end, are absolutely amazing! God, everyone who worked on this, take a good rest. You'll probably need it. The artist probably has cramped up hands trying to draw that son of a bitch, and I'm sure Alex tore up his throat here.

I was thinking: Sean in his Seap when you ask about the kingdom, he says there used to be 4 kings,but a knight came and locked 3 up. He might mean "Who are you to challenge what the knight did?" Since he finally was in major power.

@@glurchdragmire7473 I mean, consider the fact that Asgore reluctantly battles the protagonist after several minutes of dialogue and waiting, and if you beat the fight and spare him, beat Omega Flowey, then load your save file and spare him again, Flowey doesn't step in. Instead, Asgore kills himself because he doesn't want you to be unable to escape. Meanwhile, in Deltarune, King grabs his own son by the neck, threatens to throw him off the edge, then battles the three heroes with no remorse and then guilt trips the innocent Ralsei into healing him.
Lancer also says that the King "made (the enemies) listen to him", which makes me think he's enforced that law a little bit vigorously.

Clever, clever. People here keep noticing really cool stuff! This song is far more packed with double meaning than most of the ones I'd seen in UT the musical. Not to hate on it, just that I think it's a good mark of improvement that they've managed to pack more meaning into each line!

Holy shit this song is AMAZING. Alex beckham never ceases to amaze me with his singing skills, especially while simultaneously voicing a character. He’s able to make chaos king sound threatening, prideful and annoyed all at the same time while making each line sound spectacular. Even on simpler lines such as “say goodbye, tonight the lightners die” he somehow finds a way to make it sound powerful and entertaining. The writing for the song is great as well, a lot of the lyrics are clever and true to chaos kings character and the choir in the back add so much on top of it. Seriously listening to this makes me want to sing along at full volume. Amazing job by man on the internet, by far one of my favourites
