See, I'm an artist...I sell prints of my paintings. And a few years ago, when NFTs were the hot new thing, I had a meeting with this guy who was an expert at all things NFT and crypto. I had zero clue what NFTs were all about, despite _trying_ to educate myself. So, I met with this guy for a good hour. You know what I learned? Nothing. It was *_the_* most obtuse frustrating conversation ever. I legit felt like he was gaslighting me the whole time. I'd ask a simple question that imo seemed to burst the NFT illusion...and he'd be like, "Yeah, so, ok...that's technically correct. But, you see, um...while what you said _is_ true, it's actually truer to say that it's _not_ true. Make sense?"

I figured I'd look into all that since I am an artist...and making a living as such can be rough. Why not explore novel opportunities? But I never even attempted the NFT thing. It all felt like a total fiat scheme. And I feel like time has proven me right enough about that.

Same...but only to an extent. I'm a bit older than Grimes, a man, and sans children. I expect I'll never have kids and am quite happy with that. But I'm not entirely surprised Grimes has kids, nor do I think Elon "pressured" her into it. In my early 20s ALL my friends were absolutely adamant that they'd never ever, under any circumstance, spawn. Cut to 15 years later, almost all of them have kids _and_ swear that it's the single most meaningful and joyful experience of their entire life.
It's not for me, but I'm no longer surprised that the biological imperative to procreate....still exists. I've seen far too many cool artistic independent anti-establishment weirdos....go on to be moms and dads posting 500 photos of the same baby all over social media.

there's an interview in the rolling stone mag where Grimes talks about her pregnancy in ways that really bums me out. she was resistant to the idea, saw it as a sacrifice of her power/freedom/body, she says elon is good at 'talking [her] out of [her] bullshit'. I dunno. she's a grown woman and can make her own decisions, but i also know Elon has a habit of having children with women he treats terribly. The song 'so heavy i fell through the earth' is about her pregnancy and it sounds like a funeral dirge. I can't shake the feeling there was something bad happening there.
Elon musk is a certified weirdo, wouldn't be surprised at all if he pressured her, and didn't support her, before and during the pregnancy. Especially with his obsession with fertility and eugenics, as if the earth isn't overpopulated as it is anyway.
Their relationship was disturbing to say the least. There was no point at which he seemed to respect her. I still don't know why she would engage with him after he spread pictures of her having a c-section without her consent and humiliated her publicly multiple times. Elon gives me the creeps to be honest.
Thank you. I know it's wrong to speculate but it's hard not to wonder if the man with a shitload of money and power (and divorces...) Isn't just manipulating and entrapping her into all of this. Her social shortcomings and being on the spectrum, along with constant drug use and malnutrition really makes a case for her not being in her right mind enough to effectively advocate for herself. Like I laugh but I'm also genuinely sad at her wasted potential for a happier life.

Genuinely it means the world to me when you talk about your religious OCD. I'm still Roman catholic. But I had really bad religious OCD when I was a kid and would do similar things to you. Depends on the lens you are looking through. I can say the same about my relationship and it has everything to do with my husband encouraging me to try things that I might normally be afraid of. Whether it's new food or going out on a boat or pursuing a career that I feel I'm not good enough for. I've had him stand on a tower at obstacle races assuring me I can jump and survive like the other 1000+ people before me lol. I'm terrified of heights but climbed a 20ft rope because of him coaching me through it and cheering me on. Realizing you are tougher doesn't mean the other person is putting you in danger or hurting you. Sometimes it's just them encouraging you to go for the things you want even though you're scared. In doing that, you realize how much you are capable of. As for smarter, I've learned a lot from him and he has learned other things from me because we had very different childhoods and interests even in adulthood. Context matters when it comes to stating it made someone "tougher and smarter."
there's two ideas- one, that someone's love and support can make you grow into the person you are inside who is maybe braver or more outspoken. if you have a partner who listens to you you learn to express your needs, etc. I learned to take up space being smart and confident, and since then I've noticed people like talking with me because they can be smarter and more proud of themselves. If someone loves certain qualities in you you naturally lean into them.
or two, that someone has issues about how you need to be extremely tough or controlled or whatever, and they put that on you. "I used to be proud of my work and enjoy it but my partner never lets me take a break so I work 24/7 and now it's a burden" vibes.
I knew someone who was in a long term relationship with an older White man with power issues, and he would correct how she speaks, he would micromanage her emotional response, he would control her food. he molded her into being "tough and smart" in the same way that he values so he could respect her, because many men respect "Masculinity" so they make their female partners more masculine.
Whereas I had a long term partner while I was going through Uni, and I had learned not to show how smart I am because the men won't like it, but he did. He liked hearing about what I was learning and supported me being my best self. He liked seeing that I was happy in my growth and supported it, versus coming from this place of SHAME and changing to have value.
interesting though- I outgrew this partner, whereas the other relationship I describe has lasted over 20 years (they met when she was 18 and he was in his 30s)

Not a dude but I wanted to explain a little- the dumbest part of NFTs is you’re not buying rights to an image. You buy a web link. And that web link goes to the image. the LINK is the NFT, the image itself is not owned by you, under copyright law it’s still the artists image. which is why people won’t actually get in trouble for screenshotting an NFT.

Actually I think the most overlooked context is how privileged her life has been. She has been so sheltered life is literally a joke to her so she constantly has outrageous ideas and does outrageous things. Sure she's brilliant and neurodivergent. But if she had been those things and actually poor, think about it, would she have done any of the things she's done? Life is a literal cosplay-as-human to her. Any other person as privileged as her screaming about the communist manifesto for a decade would have been burnt at the social stake.

See the bottom line to me is that she comes across as having the brain of a stupid child, which she has been able to retain into adulthood because of her cushy upbringing, but ultimately she IS an adult and a famous one.
