Hi Sharon, thank you very much for these detailed tutorials. I just subscribed. I took several floral arrangement classes when I was younger but didn’t get this type of explanations. I have a few questions for this L shape design if you don’t mind.1) are there any rules to place the last 2 flowers in between the 2 side flowers such as 1/2 in between the side and middle flower or you can pretty much place them where they look good? 2) if doing 12 flowers then the middle line arrangement would be a 7 flower line or we can keep 5 line flowers and use the last 4 to fill in at the bottom and is there any rules? Thank you very much!!!!!

Hi Jo-Ann - Many thanks for watching and thanks for your question. I'm not quite sure if I understand it properly but I'll try to answer. 1) The 'rules' will vary depending on the country explaining the information, I suppose my explanation is just one example. As a commercial florist we use formulas/recipes to produce designs because they need to be consistent each time we made an arrangement for a customer, so commercial floristry tends to follow more stringent rules. We also have to work to a budget, so therefore calculating costs of groups of flowers is easier than adding up many individual flowers. It is very fashionable at the moment to just create a 'blob' of flowers without any explanation, just allowing the flowers to speak for themselves, but this is difficult to explain to a total beginner. An L shape needs a characteristic L so the height should be longer than the width, just like a capital 'L' and the outline shouldn't be filled in to make an asymmetric triangle, so as long as the width is shorter than the height and it is unbalanced then it doesn't matter where the flowers are positioned. Your eye should follow a rhythmic line starting from the top, down and to the left or right. Hope that helps although I'm not sure I understood the question properly. B) is easier to answer, as long as the 12 are evenly distributed with the height taller than the width it doesn't matter how you position the flowers. Try to remember that if its a large carnation it will take up more space than a small rose, so 7 in your focal line may work with carnations but it might not work with a rose. 'Rules' are guidelines to help you to understand the theory. Its a bit like cooking, you follow a recipe until you are confident, then you play a little with the ingredients. We also have a 10 week online course starting on August 2nd if you wanted to join in. Prices start at £95 for basic access and can be booked on the website www.sharondower.com/courses

Hi Sharon, I tried to sign up for the $95 basic course on your website but kept failing the “I’m not a robot” catcha verification process. Is there an easier way to bypass that process? Thank you!

@@jo-annnguyen7374 hi Jo-ann. You just need to tick/select the box so the booking system knows you aren't a robot.

Hi Sharon. Yes I checked off the “I’m not a robot” box and chose the pictures as instructed and failed. I went back and repeat about 10 more times last night.
