These are so pretty and have such a great impact on the room. Great idea! I'm wondering, is there any specific reason you don't just cut one big piece? Maybe I just missed that.
No you didn't miss it, I didn't explain - sorry about that. If you have enough width in your fabric to cut it in one strip you certainly can and I've done that before. But mostly fabric comes in 112cm width here so it doesn't fit. Also I find it easier to pin the handle in place when I have the two back seams to measure from. Thanks for asking. I'll pin your comment so others can find this answer too.
Some is here too but the poplin and quilters cotton isn't and that's mostly what I use. It also makes it easier to align the handle with two seams at the back so you can more easily center the handle on the front
@@MyMumMakes yeah, I'm thinking it does something for the stability too - might make it less likely to turn on the box when it's used a lot. For using smaller fabric pieces it might be an idea to make two different sides (front and back each with a handle) and have it be reversible... So many possibilities!
👩🏻💭" I came across your video by accident". My need was something I can put in the bottom of some very flimsy clothing storage bags that are made to zip up. No luck yet but what was so adorable about this video was watching how your baby pulled out one of the boxes you make and she put it back too❣️
rewatching these videos when my kids were smaller is one of my favourite things :) I'm glad you enjoyed it even though it wasn't what you were looking for. Are you looking for maybe a stabilizer or interfacing you could sew into the storage bags? Otherwise you could have a try at using "plastic canvas" like this www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00545M3F6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00545M3F6&linkCode=as2&tag=linmattexart-20&linkId=X5PETBYZCS44RRL2
I am about to become a Great Grandma, GGMa, and I want to make beautiful things for my Grand Daughter that she will cherish long after I am gone. This is the most wonderful place to make more. I am a seamstress and have top of the line embroidery machines, but simple is always so much fun. Thank You and God Bless.
Congratulations on the upcoming new arrival of a whole new generation of your family 🥰🥰🥰 how special! I'm sure you're grand daughter will feel so blessed by the time and thought you've put into making things for her. My grandma used to knit cardigans for me when I was a child and I loved it. I'm glad my videos have been useful.
Another great video ❤️❤️ my sister has these boxes & has been asking if I could make her covers. Now I have what I would like to say is the best tutorial on here
@@MyMumMakes I love how you make your tutorials so easy to follow, I'm dyslexic & dyspraxic so I find following instructions difficult but I have no problems with your tutorials ❤️❤️
@@Rona_Davis yes video certainly would makes it much easier to follow than just reading instructions with dyslexia. Thank you for always having such lovely things to comment
I very much hope you dont mind me saying, but I've been feeling a little low today, particularly because I feel very unattractive and over weight, anyway, anytime you watch a youtube video its a bit like buying a magazine, everyone is skinny and fabulous, and you end up feeling a lot worst. well, I'm about your size and you just look lovely, pretty and nicely dressed, it makes me realise I can look good too. so thanks, I know that's off topic and I do hope you don't mind me saying
Thanks so much for saying that. I have days like that too where it can be so easy to see our imperfections and so hard to see our beauty. But beauty can shine through at any size. You are valuable and worthy of love no matter how your body compares to society's standard. Thanks for reaching out. There are some great people to follow online but I definitely would suggest unfollowing anyone that is affecting your mental health. Sending love your way 💕
why do you cut each side for the cover separately and then sew it together again. if you had left the fabric together, 1 to 2 seams (depending on the width of the fabric) would have been enough.
Thanks for your question. Most of the fabric I use have wide enough, but even when I've used fabric that is, it's easier to fit the handle if you have two seams because then it's very obvious where the back panel is. So you're sewing an extra back seam to avoid a lot more tedious measuring to get the handle centred. Does that make sense?
Certainly! It's a paid pattern available on Etsy. This is the link if you're interested www.etsy.com/au/listing/669258700/fabric-cover-for-ikea-drona-storage-box

@@MyMumMakes that makes total sense! Fascinating, most fabrics here come in 140-150cm width.

Ohh that's a fun idea! Could have something seasonal so you can rotate them. Love that!!
