No temper tantrums or excuses just got on with it and a genuinely nice unpretentious guy , could have won at St Andrews in 2000 must have had 9 putts in the final round that touched the hole and stayed out, but still a fantastic golfer with grasp of reality and what’s important in life , thanks David .
Loved watching Duval play. Amazing balance, pure ball striker, and superb touch around the green. In his prime, he was the only guy you really believed could give Tiger a run week after week. I miss his stoic style of play.
After the Open his injuries sidelined what could have been a dominating career and Tiger’s biggest threat. His swing was free flowing and seemingly effortless. Always liked watching him play.
I love his swing when ppl talk about favorite swings a lot of ppl say the same golfers but to me his swing is definitely top 3 I understand his swing could’ve caused his injuries but in his prime it was poetry in motion
I grew up in Ortega in Jacksonville and knew him in high school. I remember watching him tee off on #10 at Timuquana CC and he just ripped one down the left side of the fairway to a place I STILL haven't been. He is 4 years older than me. 9th grade(year after he graduated and went to Ga Tech) I had the golf coach for study hall. Coach Mike Koch... we were talking about DD and we asked him if he thought he'd play PGA Tour one day.... Coach said Oh yeah. He's going to play and he's going to win a lot. Just watch..... I'll never forget that.
Absolutely love watching this guy play it was hard to believe it at the time when he took the world #1 from Tiger but he was that good at that time in his career and this was in Tigers prime.
Always a fan, still a fan. One of the greatest drivers of the ball I ever saw during his stretch of elite play. Injuries derailed his career way too soon
thank you! he was a stud! best player ever for me. I really think my life would be different i hadn't started golf in the late 90's and discovered at the time David Duval.... what he player he truly was...
He was an excellent player! Very underrated for sure, perhaps because he was a very low key personality, and he was overshadowed by the end of the Shark Greg Norman era, and beginning of the Tiger dominance era. But I don’t believe anyone won more than Duval did from late 1997-early1999. 11 times over a 2.5 year period! He was a pretty dominant number one in that time.
Followed David for the first two rounds at Royal Lytham, his only major, his ball striking was so pure, looked effortless, wonderful tempo and rythm, thought he'd be number one for many years, unfortunately vertigo stopped that happening
Not sure why this guy isn't in the golf HOF. 13 tour wins, 1 major, one Players. During that period from 97 to 2001 it seemed like he was winning every single month. The rotation through the ball is unmatched. Very underrated player.
Started playing when he was #1. Modeled my swing after his. To this day I still swing with a strong grip, use an “under release” and turn my head through impact to a low finish. Can’t do it any other way but the Duval way. So underrated.
He's a case study as to how fickle the game of golf can be. To go from being the best in the world to literally falling off the planet and not being able to compete is truly incredible. I understand he had some injuries but those healed at a certain point and he was never the same again. Anthony Kim is another one. Both of these guys could have been top 10-15 in the world for 12-15 years easily had they kept their games.
His vertigo and back problems truly ended a definite HOF career had he stayed healthy. We all hear about the one hit wonders who hit the pinnacle and disappear, but Duval was better than Tiger at one point in 1998. I truly believe if David Duval had even stayed reasonably healthy without his injuries, he’d have 20+ wins and 3 majors. I mean he would catch FIRE when he was playing well. Not a Hall Of Fame career, but he was a Hall Of Famer 1997-2001
At one time the best player on Tour. Tiger was always watching where he stood in each tournament. The most balanced swing I every seen. Mechanically his swing took out the chances for error. But Duval’s personality was very cold and he never interacted with fans at tournaments. Would deny fans any access to him.
I used to really enjoy watching him in his prime! When he found incredible success, as happens a lot in all sports, he changed things… he lost weight, lengthened his swing, and said bye bye.. sad. He could have been the greatest ever with the action he had back then! I don’t know if he made the changes himself, or maybe someone close to him put the idea in his head..??
I am an ardent TW fan and he's the reason why am I'm such a golf nut...with all his powerful, aggressive swing, the records broke he broke and set,the solid game he had to go along with the victories...I still choose to model my golf swing to that of DAVID DUVAL's,his swing is one of the finest I've seen,he was and still is my player of choice outside of TW. I firmly believe that had it not been of those unfortunate injuries, this golfing soul would've gone very far in this game, would have given TW nightmares too. DUVAL was very, very good and I still respect him even today. ✌🏿🫶🏿🏌🏿
I was a kid when Duvall was on top of the golf world. My best friend’s dad at the time told me one day that somebody he knew saw Duvall at an airport just before a major tournament (Master’s maybe) and asked for an autograph. Supposedly, Duvall blew him off. So the guy told Duvall that he cursed him for the rest of his golfing career. Not long after, Duvall basically fell off the face of the earth. Lol
I never looked at David Duval as being underrated. He was number one in the world when competing against arguably the greatest golfer of all time. Not to mention competing against Phil Mickelson and Ernie, Els, and other greats.Duval is one of the greats.
For a few years, this guy was the man. And that was amongst a very strong field that included Tiger Woods in his prime. I was so pleased that he won the Open just before his back problems became too much, and he went into decline. You could see how the back thing came about when you see his really full, and very wide follow through. Great to watch though. You'll notice that today's top players look like they're hitting knockdown shots with their irons. Very compact finish. Fleetwood is the perfect example of this.
Sprained lumbar vertebra Injuries to his neck, back, and wrist plagued Duval and in 2003 he began to battle vertigo. The back first acted up in early 2000 when he threw it out due to a sprained lumbar vertebra. His swing changed in order to cater to the injury, but he developed a 2-way miss.
Most who have not suffered severe back issues don't understand how difficult that can be to recover from and he also suffered from vertigo which balance is essential in a great golf swing. I believe these issues derailed him, he played golf since he was a young child with his dad being a pro.
He said that after he won the Open (and finally got a major), he basically felt that he'd reached the pinnacle. He suddenly had a realization that it was not going to get any better than this, and didn't have the same passion for years for the game. He'd worked so hard to get there, and once he was there, the relief and happiness turned to a sense of "What now? What was left to prove?" Certainly the injury struggles became easier to accept, no longer was it paramount to work his ass off to get through it or maintain his game at the highest level. Duval lost his edge, his drive. I do wonder... would the same thing have happened if he had won the US Open or the PGA, or even the Masters. The Open Championship has that little bit extra, being played on such old courses and being a much older tournament. Not to mention being called the Champion Golfer of the Year by the oldest governing body in the sport. It might have hit different than any other major for him, but maybe it wouldn't have mattered which he won?
My all time favorite swing. 1998 O Meara got lucky otherwise it would have been a play off between him David and Freddie. I was very sad the Freddie didnt win. Coz though Duval is my favorite swing Freddie is my all time favorite golfer. But a great Video nonetheless.
Being as I am and always have been David’s biggest fan. Great video. I just wish he could regain his health and game and kick some ass on the Champions Tour.
@Tradition Golf Followed every shot of seves win in 1988, stood feet away from every shot. Only missed 4 opens since 88. Was at masters 2001 when Tiger won grand slam.
Love David but Billy Casper is the most underrated of all time... 51 wins on the PGA tour and 3 majors in the era of Snead, Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Trevino..
Duval 4 years 13 wins 1 major Michelson 10 years 17 wins 0 major If it was not for his injuries he would have been not far off Tiger One of the best golf swing still un matched
@@bitchplz …. Excellent, you enjoy the music, for me it spoilt the video, showing golf.. As I said, there’s plenty of music videos out there for you to watch, when watching golf I don’t want to listen to loud music..
One of the all time greats. Not only did he have the silkiest swing, but I just love the way he got around the golf course. Great video guys

When I was young and Tiger was at his prime, David Duval was one of my favourite golfers, I even copied his swing and tried to look cool like he did 😅
Great video and tribute to Duval ! Had the opportunity to see him at Firestone the last 2 years and he can still move it.
After the Open his injuries sidelined what could have been a dominating career and Tiger’s biggest threat. His swing was free flowing and seemingly effortless. Always liked watching him play.

The best of the very best! What a swing what a great man! 👏😍

He had the most amazing head movement in his swing ….he is looking away from ball …..just a legend.😊😊
59 final round to win the Bob Hope Classic the most precision round of golf I have ever seen..
Easily . Watched it live and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

What an enjoyable video! Thank you for sharing.
Such a beautiful swing.
Besides David's talent, one thing that really stood out in this video was the baggie pants during that time frame.
Now you hahe a bunch of videos of all the masters and other majors from that 98-06 era...amazing
I've been a fan forever! Great player! Amazing Iron's player! Cheer's
Followed David for the first two rounds at Royal Lytham, his only major, his ball striking was so pure, looked effortless, wonderful tempo and rythm, thought he'd be number one for many years, unfortunately vertigo stopped that happening
God, I love his action. Smoothness personified.

If I were him I wouldn’t worry as there are a lot in there that shouldn’t be , and they know it !!!
I love watching him play.
His 59 was the best round I’ve ever seen. And I’ll never forget him playing night golf vs Tiger.
I agree. It was the best round of golf I have seen to this day.
Started playing when he was #1. Modeled my swing after his. To this day I still swing with a strong grip, use an “under release” and turn my head through impact to a low finish. Can’t do it any other way but the Duval way. So underrated.
Such a beautiful shoulder turn.
Have you had any trouble with your back since emulating his swing?

I always liked those sunglasses he wore.
Right hand super strong, cuts across ball with fade swing...result is SMASH!
Beautiful rhythm

Loved watching DD play back in the day. I don't think he's under rated. He just had a short career due to injuries.
Peak Duval was a machine!
Titleist era DD was something else!
Yes sir!
He made those sunglasses pretty damn popular in the late 90s
You're right, I have a pair

Think he made wrap around sun gasses cool. If not for back injuries and vertigo problems, he would still be up there with the best today.
2023 i m still using 975j/962 titlesit on the course cause of DD.
This guy kept Tiger at bay for 2 years when Tiger was at his very best,,,,
デュバルは、本当に素晴らしいスインガーだった‼️

I can only imagine what great matches we would have witnessed between Duval and Woods!!

Hates this guy because his game was so smooth and he gave Tiger fits. If his back didn’t fail him he would have made Mickelson irrelevant.
'98 goatee'd Duval was the absolute shiznit
Duvall is amazing.
You know how many *Titleist DCI irons* this guy sold? 😁
I still have my set!
Why the need to drown out commentary with loud stirring music?
David Duval could have easily won 8, 9, 10 majors..
Such a shame. Great player with a great golf swing.

What was his specific back injury do we know?
Sprained lumbar vertebra
Injuries to his neck, back, and wrist plagued Duval and in 2003 he began to battle vertigo. The back first acted up in early 2000 when he threw it out due to a sprained lumbar vertebra. His swing changed in order to cater to the injury, but he developed a 2-way miss.
One of golf’s great mysteries in my mind. It’s like he woke up one day and forgot how to play golf.
Most who have not suffered severe back issues don't understand how difficult that can be to recover from and he also suffered from vertigo which balance is essential in a great golf swing. I believe these issues derailed him, he played golf since he was a young child with his dad being a pro.

What's the music?
I heard pros would stop and watch him on the range and he was hitting the flag over and over from at least 100yards out
Sure he got injured but I also think there was a strong lack of desire after the 2001 Open. Even he said “is this all it is?”
It’s true I read up on that. He had a hard time dealing with the fact that he didn’t even play his best golf that week yet he still won.
Being as I am and always have been David’s biggest fan. Great video. I just wish he could regain his health and game and kick some ass on the Champions Tour.
agree. he would be great for that tour
Fantastic player very unlucky to be around at the same time as tiger ,without tiger I believe we’d be talking about Duvall
Stood behind him when he hit his second shot to 18 at Lytham to win the open.
That is so AWESOME!! How cool Patrick! If you have any stories about the Open would love to hear them! Thanks for sharing
@Tradition Golf

Love David but Billy Casper is the most underrated of all time... 51 wins on the PGA tour and 3 majors in the era of Snead, Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Trevino..
I'd say someone like Fred Couples had a better career and he also had a shortened prime due to injury problems
Duval
4 years 13 wins 1 major
Michelson
10 years 17 wins 0 major
If it was not for his injuries he would have been not far off Tiger
One of the best golf swing still un matched
👍
It's a shame how completely he collapsed - and how permanently.
please change the music. you used music that sounds like Scottish soldiers coming over the hill; blades a blazin'
Vijay and Casper most underrated
Please consider turning down the music at least 10 dB. Those of us with Tinnitus cannot pick the voices out of the music. Thank you.
Why is Vieira getting no minutes? Feels like he could have unlocked something there.
Thats kinda like saying what if Bo Jackson didnt get hurt.
He had a lot of injuries on his back, no? Great golfer though
Yes sir, bad back issues, wrist and struggles with vertigo.
Under rated!??? He was no 1 in the world. WTF are you talking about.
He lost his mojo to win competition.
Music not required and rather off putting 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
