The real issue is that even people without facebook and that haven't signed the terms of service and haven't signed up are being tracked by facebook too. It picks up things other people have said about you, photos friends have tagged about you, your internet history, things you've clicked on and so on and so forth. Even this video, facebook knows you've watched it. Even if you created an account right now, with a fake name and a fake address etc. Facebook will still know exactly who you are and recommend friends to you that you know. I don't even have facebook and have never had a 'real' account but when I created a fake one, it still recommended that I befriend my parents and friends etc. So the terms of service is BS. Mark Zuckerberg even admitted that they have shadow profiles. Though he said that it'd take a lot of work for someone to use a shadow profile maliciously, it doesn't mean that it's fool-proof and that's still besides the point that it's a complete invasion of privacy that nobody agreed to.
@@bakersmileyface if you never agree to the user agreement, you will not get tracked by fb. youtube is in Google's domain so thats different. about the fake profile now, it tracks close by via gps proximity, and other methods, thats why it suggests relatives.
@@Niphiz They also check your search history, IP address, location, other devices connected to you, your phone number, alongside various other information. And also when you agree to cookies, in all likelihood you're agreeing to share that information with various other companies and cookie vendors so that they can tailor advertisements and so on. Most of it is harmless, however cookies do handle a lot of your private data and information and websites don't always provide that data to sources of integrity. A lot of information does get sold to facebook this way too. Not to say facebook necessarily does anything bad with it either, it's just an invasion of privacy as far as I'm concerned. Of course you agree to cookies, so it's your own fault in this front however on pretty much every site cookies are required to use their services. This can be proven if you disable all cookies through your browser and most websites won't give you access. Next time you open up a website and it asks you for cookies, open up the options for the cookies and look through their cookie policy. They often tell you where you a lot about what information they're gathering and where it's going. You'll see just how many different sources are getting your information. You'll also not know of a lot of these places, so google them for some interesting results if you have the time. But even if you don't accept cookies, it still doesn't change the fact that facebook gathers your information through other facebook users. There's nothing you can do about that. And you will never be asked for permission for that information to be gathered and stored.

To be honest guys, Facebook is an option. and this is the fucking point here. When they ask if he was comfortable sharing where he stayed in a hotel or who he spoke to last week, he was given the option to answer, or not to answer. You are given this option every single time you share anything about yourself on social media. No one fucking forces you to put it out in the open where you are or who your girlfriend is, or where you work. You CHOOSE to do it.

So pretty much in are society today your name and email is everywhere unless your a rat under a rock or something
Mohammad Alam - no, but data security experts have been warning us FOR YEARS that anything you put online is likely online forever. *People need to accept some level of personal responsibility for what information they put online!* I have friends who complain about the leak, but have their FB accounts on public view, share _everything_ about their lives, doesn't give a rat's ass about checking their privacy preferences and willing to give out their real names, phone number, and DOB for identity theft. I have personally told them anything they share means strangers will know - which includes FB data. They know the risks. I also have friends who don't have FB accounts or ones who never reveal anything personal on FB, because they know the risks and would rather not be voluntary over-sharers.

"Your user agreement sucks.' 'I'm glad you're being objective there, senator.' "You have to write it so the average American understands it.'' 'In crayon?'
Yeah that was a dumb thing to suggest. I don't think the problem is that the content of the user agreement is bad or unfair (though it might be), the problem is that people don't read it at all yet continue to use the service and don't expect consequences. If they're gonna use that service, it's on them to be prepared for any collateral, and if they're not, they should just not use it in the first place.
soupisgdfood it's not about how they work.. it's about giant corporations cashing in our information to advertisers or worse, an enemy.. Maybe it's the young that doesn't get it.
It's not about deserving, but grandma doesn't get to complain about losing her right to privacy if she agreed to Terms and Conditions she didn't read and/or understand, or if she shared something publicly.
The most disturbing part was how far congress, senate, the government is so disconnected from to anyone under 60 years old. Those questions were ignorant.....”how many data categories does Facebook have!?!?” They can’t even get the lingo right and each one has a staff of 25 doing research for them. We’re doomed if those are the people in charge.
Jokes aside, the most interesting part of this was when Palantir was brought up. It's like if this was a mob hearing and they asked about another made man, Zucc went full omerta.

FB is just a start! Google, UA-cam, Apple etc shortly vast majority of companies are feeding other companies with user data for decades. FB just got targeted thanks to the scandal not becuase it is the only company which does this shit and all you see is just a show for stupid people. At the end FB will get hundreds of million dolars bill and there is a possiblity Zuckerberg will loose his control on his company. Then other companies will instantly update their user agreements according to new data privacy rules and act like they never ever did such a thing...

MrElculver2424 Wrong. Wake up you social media Orwellian disillusioned sheep.

No one is forced to share on Facebook in which hotel they stayed. So why should he be forced?
Whether or not you decide to publicly share something on your profile is irrelevant in regards to the data Facebook store and share with third parties. Your data is getting shared with or without your consent.
SG0288 Or he could just be awkward, just like allot of other smart/programmers/geeks/people that work in computers; Also stopping the smile quickly, is probably smart, because you don't want to look like your laughing or smiling about the next subject, such as people's privacy, but who has privacy on the internet, no one, some people may have more than others, such as people that use VPNs and people that don't have location turned on, but Google/UA-cam/android, Apple, Microsoft and tons of other companies are doing the exact same thing, facebooks doing right now, the only difference is, Facebook is the only one in the spot light/media, right now; Also Mark Zuckerburg is a CEO/he runs a company, hes not just protecting him self, but he's also protecting and speaking on behalf of his employees, in which hes responsible for. Also people keep saying that Mark Zuckeeburg should just answer yes or no, you can't do that with minipulative people, like this, if you notice these questioners cut him off when things arent going there way, now thats minipulitive. Im not saying Mark Zuckerburg is the pope, hes not, but hes responsible for a company and his employees and hes not doing anything google/youtube/android,Apple and Microsoft Aren't already doing.
matt matthew I understand but fb is more like a sales hub instead of sharing life, storys and more between friends. Not being able to Opt out on ads and sharing my private information all over America and the world violates my rights. Laws are made and punishable for this type of behavior otherwise it's totalitarianism.
Facebook doesn't have/Isn't a Monopoly. To be a monopoly Mark Zuckerburg/Facebook would have to be the only one in the business, that sells ads and or have the ability to drive competitors out of business, Facebook doesn't have that ability; Infact your on a site, right now, that does the exact same thing Facebook does, UA-cam, and people use googles search engines all the time, and google sells ads, and tracks people/users, also Android is a part of Google as well; also Microsoft sells ads, infact there just as bad as Facebook, Windows 10 has a keylogger built into it; back in the day, to an extent, your OS/Operating System was one of the only things you didn't have to protect against, as much, but thats not the case anymore, and Apple sells ads as well. Also some of the problems with Facebook, not all, but some of them, could be due to one of the same problems UA-cam is encountering right now, algorithms/censoring. Also the only reason Facebook is under fire right now, is because its a popular subject/Facebook is in the media, but Facebook isn't doing anything that hasn't been going on for years, yes government/companies have found ways to use the information thats available, but that isn't anything new..
Mr. Zuckerberg, are you the ceo of Facebook? "well, if I could just say? that depends. I'm not entirely aware of it and I don't know. But I think the larger question is that is Facebook being used for good? "
Lmao they could have at least found some senators with math, engineering, or compsci backgrounds. Or are there none?!? omg dumb and out of touch Congress is scary.
He is aware of everything and is acting. There are moments of idiocy because he has social problems, but he knows what's going on and he has been trained well to open his mouth without saying anything that could be considered useful information.
They cut the clip short. If you see the whole thing he says that the reason he asked is because why wouldn't he want to share where he stayed in a hotel with strangers but Facebook collects and sells information like that to strangers
Miles Edgeworth The point is that according to Facebook's privacy terms, they state that personal info are kept safe by the company and are not exposed to external sources. Here, they are clearly breaking the privacy term which is why it is a crime.
“Now, when I cancel my Facebook, do I get my face back? Or do you keep it? Please answer the question. Secondly, how many faces do you currently store in the clouds, and where do you find room for them all?”

@@Niphiz Shadow profiles and cookies are a lot scarier than you think.
@@bakersmileyface well, I cant say its my field of expertise, but from what I know cookies are what I click, type etc
The awkward thing is that they talked to a lizard for hours on end without noticing.

They don't give a shit about whether or not people understand Facebook's user agreement. Congress is just putting on a show.
I'm not missing a point. If you think anyone in the US congress has concerns and wants to put Facebook on trial for sharing your private information you're beyond stupid. Congress does not give a fuck about their citizens data, they try to appropriate as much funding as possible to break into databases for their citizens data.
Alexa Wolfheart You don't understand how the system works, perhaps. It's originally proposed by one person and then everyone tweaks it a little and when it goes through it's completely unrecognizable as what it originally was. Jorge C. M. Oh look here. A spelling Nazi. You must be so smart and above everyone else.
Last senator is clueless... "tell us China sucks" ... "senator my wife is chinese american" "oh"
murican spirit is strong with this one
I think China currently has more opportunities for entrepreneurs than the US, including the IT industry
He didn't take the bait because it is simply not true that success stories such as Facebook can only occur in the US. There are plenty of high profile IT companies in China and other countries that came out of even more humble backgrounds than Zuckerberg's dorm
Sith'ari Azithoth first, she is more American than Chinese. Have you heard her speak it?? Jesus fucking Christ it’s poor. Second, the question the senator asked was clearly used to smear China. He’s baiting that the free market, etc etc and the philosophies that coincide with the “American Dream” where a guy from a “Dorm room to global internet behemoth” is better than China. He’s not JUST fisihfin for appraisal of America, he could’ve easily left China out and still made a point. The point was to fish out an attack against China, to see how Zukerburg’s stance on his eye on China.
Just... stick to reporting to Papa Palpatine
I can't find this part omg. Where is it??
Senator: Mark, just tell me "yes" or "no"
Mark: Senator, what do you mean?
Senator: just "yes" or "no"
Mark: ohh, ok, then no.
Senator: No Mark, you should say "Yes"!
Richard Losonczi haha I know people act like Facebook is copying their brains thoughts without their consent. And all the people who say Facebook is selling your name and email to other companies...well they probably are but about every other company has too I bet you didn’t start getting spam in your email just after making a Facebook account. So pretty much in are society today your name and email is everywhere unless your a rat under a rock or something
This is EXACTLY what I thought when he was asked the question about his hotel! The word "comfortable" really stood out to me. 🖒
But does it provide any option to leak our details on sale??
Ikr. Damned Equifax sabotaged my financial information, which I did not even agree to be collected in a first place, but news about that fade out within a week. But facebook holiday pictures and my email adress seems to be a bigger deal

WRITE IT IN CAPIITALS ??? Not shouting, just, well, saying/typing

It's not about deserving, but grandma doesn't get to complain about losing her right to privacy if she agreed to Terms and Conditions she didn't read and/or understand, or if she shared something publicly.

Susan Pereira right wingers should praise that. Survival of the fittest in economics.
Susan Pereira ur complaining about Facebook and privacy but ur still using google and UA-cam?
FB is just a start! Google, UA-cam, Apple etc shortly vast majority of companies are feeding other companies with user data for decades. FB just got targeted thanks to the scandal not becuase it is the only company which does this shit and all you see is just a show for stupid people. At the end FB will get hundreds of million dolars bill and there is a possiblity Zuckerberg will loose his control on his company. Most of the senators had no clue what they were even asking. The fact that people think Zuckerburg is dumb or isn't aware of anything is laughable. He answered the way he did because most of the questions were ridiculous or made no sense to his intelligence level.
MrElculver2424 Wrong. Wake up you social media Orwellian disillusioned sheep.

SG0288 ok!!
SG0288 He was choked during the whole hearing cuz he's thinking of lies. I don't think he's funny.
