Here is my thoughts on this job. First, Mrs. Meyer are you happy with the job that you have completed? If yes, then who cares what other people think. Secondly, how many people out there actually take a task such as this upon themselves to do? My final point is this, you took a task upon yourself to do and finished it, you took the initiative and that alone is praise worthy enough. It isn't the critics that count it is those in the trenches that matter. Enjoy your accomplishment!!
Thank you!
also, that was hard work. I'm impressed!
How much did everything cost
Well-put
Love this comment .
As a single woman and a new home owner I'm impressed you took on this task...it's inspiring actually!!!
Toskudo 86 your comment was not necessary. Financing better then renting. I bet your a depressed person
I agree with 11th child studios your comment wasn't necessary what was the purpose? What exactly do they convey to the new OWNER during closing, title and deed that's what. And the owner IS responsible for the property taxes. So LEGALLY you are the home owner either way and are held responsible for anything that happens on your property. Just pointing out the FACTS.
Donna Brown well said and thank you. It’s sad How some people are not happy or unhappy to see others happy.
FlightAttendantBarbie your beautiful and I’m sure your not single anymore
What does being a single woman have to do with anything? Anyway I’m glad you are inspired. I am too! Great job
Hello everyone. I actually own a Lawncare and Landscaping business, and what this lady has done here, is pretty close to exactly what we do one our patio installations. One tip I'd like to leave you all with, is when you put in your rock for your base, if you check your local rental store, the have what is called a plate compacter. It's a gas powered machine that presses down and compacts what ever you drive it over. It's well worth the rental fee
As a professional. Im proud of this lady and how she did all that digging by herself. Thats like 2.5 yards of dirt. Or 3 tons or so
This is the definition of a DIY video. Everyday people using everyday tools and lots of elbow grease. It looks amazing! I can't wait to get started on ours. Thank you!
Something about ladies doing project gives me just a little bit of confidence that I can do it too. Great job!
Lindsey Pernas Me, too, Lindsey!
You go girl. I just redid my whole kitchen by myself. Female and 65. I’m so proud at the beautiful results plus I learned a lot.
I don't care what anybody says, that is back breaking work. Excellent job. I'm about to do the same and now have a great understanding of the labor involved. Enjoyed the video, thanks for posting and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
***** you're welcome and thanks!
the ground here doesn't drain that well, so in order to keep the pavers from buckling during the freeze and thaw cycles, we needed to put some sort of drainage in. I would say if we had a sort of sandy loam that just laying them in would work without the sand, but where we live it's farm country with a lot of organics in the soil.
I agree, and I've done it. My husband and I put in a large paver patio at the back of the house years ago. The pavers were dropped off in the front driveway and I had to move every single one of them myself from the front yard to the back with a wheelbarrow over the course of three days. I calculated I moved roughly two tons! 😂 My husband was busy preparing the work site, leveling, and then laying the pavers. We got it all done just in time--as soon as we finished it poured rain for two days. What an experience! It looked great though, and that was our first time tackling that particular type of project.
Professionals are great (when one can afford them), but nothing comes close to the satisfaction of doing it yourself, imperfections and all.
Thank you!
Except when done incorrectly and in 2 years you need to redo it.
Hopefully by then you've seen all the mistakes you made the first time, and you do it better. Eventually you'll become pretty adept at it.
Joseph Accetturo II well if I want my taxes done I'll give you a call!
Nelson Smith and
Hell of a job , finally have a home of my own with a back yard with grass . This made me think I can this ! Thanks for taking the time to document this 🙏
Good to see a woman outside working. My lady would never in a million years attempt this. If a bead of sweat comes rolling down her face or a bug touches her, she freaks out! kudos to you ma'am! And the patio turned out nice.
+Bigchuck678
I agree bigchuck678. Even in my best days, I dont think I'd ever had tried to do what those too ladies did. Right or wrong..they did it and I hope they enjoy their beer and hot dogs! Good for you!! :))
+michele rhoads Thank you !
Unfortunately women today all wannabe the Kardashians they don't want to work as hard as this lady Did props to you
@@nickajk1 you sound single
@@SvobodovaEva yes but not by choice
I love amateur DIY videos like this! Thank you so much for taking the time to document this! This is what UA-cam is all about :)
A Palmer i concur completely!!
you guys mad me realize how incredibly lazy i am. Great job
lol..thanks!
Hahaha 😂
😂
So nice to see other ladies doing work and accomplishing projects around the house. I am trying to teach my 23 year old daughter as well since you never know what life will bring to you and you can rely on yourself. I do say Praise God for you nice neighbor for helping move the dirt! Great job!
Tough ladies! I'm working on a lawn island with retaining wall brick, planting trees and shrubs. Then on to a paver patio, so much work and it is hard on the back! Great job gals!
Vanessa Navarrete Yes, they did a great job. Congrats to you, too, Vanessa!
I learned more from you on the amount of work it could be, than most pros on here. Good job. Now I’m motivated watching you.
wow...you've got some severe critics on here! Pay them no mind. I saw two hard working women doing their best and busting their butts! Right ON ladies!! Enjoy your patio. Wish I still had the omph to do itl
Thanks!
I think it looks great! Good for you doing this huge job by yourself and saving a TON of money in the process. I am sure this video will be an inspiration to many.
It was an inspiration to me!
yes me as well.
Universal Law same here
So true, who cares if it isnt perfect. Electrical or plumbing mistakes can destroy a house, a pavers project cannot. And talk about money saved, guys in my area charge over 5 grand for this type of work.
You gals are amazing! So inspiring. Thank you for posting this video.
Great job, ladies!
Thank you so much for sharing your great work with all of us out here!
I think you ladies deserve a huge applause! Your hard work paid off, it‘s beautiful. Quite the inspirational video. I can't wait to start my patio. Thanks for the info!
I watched your video. It wasn't that long. You both did a great job and it really shows the work involved. Thank you...looks wonderful.
this is pretty fantastic work for DIYers who have never made a patio or a fire pit before. Great job ladies!
Well done ladies and thanks for sharing. I'm in the process of renovating a big old house myself and know the satisfaction of being able to do the work myself. Shout out to Bob too ...that's a lovely neighbour. Now I want a fire pit! Much love from the UK.
Zannnnah I think we'll keep Bob...he's ok in our book!! LOL
I’ve looked at a lot of UA-cam because I want to do the same thing. This is the way I’m going to do it and I prefer this video over the others because it’s more understandable and makes me feel I can do it as well. My only problem is what to do with the soil, I think I’ll have to add to other bits of the garden.
You removed roughly 2.041 yards of soil, you said it rained so the moisture content was high... If I had to guess I'd say you removed around 3600 pounds or roughly 1.8 tons of dirt with your shovels. Good thing the neighbor with the tractor came to help out.
Mark CQ
Thank you so much for posting this whole video and showing the actual work that goes into a diy patio.... This is what I've been trying to find, the actual steps involved and not a 3 min video of clips from a tv show that leaves out the actual hard work and what it takes to put into a project like this! Thanks again and great video I enjoyed all of it!
I work in landscaping and i've done pavers, flagstone and all that stuff. Gotta say for someone that isn't a professional this is decent. Can't tell you how many lawns i see while mowing where some people just threw some bricks down over the grass and tried to make a patio lol. Kudos
That’s a lot of hard work. I’m impressed. Even though it’s not perfect you girls made some mistakes. At least you did it your self. Very inspirational.
Loved your video. My favorite part was the swearing because it was realistic. I know I would be swearing the entire time...lol
Great job and yeah, get your gloves. Thank you
Multiple Man 🤣🤣🤣😂
5:20- 😂😂😂
“This sucks!”
Fantastic job! I moved the sod from my 15x30 pool site... it’s so much work, and those sod pieces are dense!
“We need some inmates..”😂🤣😂
This is AWESOME!
I love when she says “this sucks”. It’s very real and exactly what I experience halfway thru a big project. She’s not wearing jeans and a cardigan with a full face of makeup pretending it’s easy.
DIY, saves so much money. And I have 3 teenage boys. Something perfect for us to do together.
I was searching for ideas for my tiny back yard......but, WOW.... Dats alot o werk!!!! Excellent job I must say, hats of to you two.
You saved me 10k. I did it myself after I received an estimate for $10,500. I then watched this video and said if you can do it I can do it. I made an 11x13 and put a gazebo on top. It's my favorite place to be now.
Age just a number and doesn’t matter how you get it done or what style you do it. Do what works for you. What a inspiration I got no excuse. Now!
Great job! It's been 5 years would love to see how it looks today!
Good job, I saw it in person and it looks even better;)
All I gotta say Ms Meyer is You and Your Assistant are AWSUM!!!!!!
Your project came out Fantastic !
Looks good. I'll be taking some of your tips and applying them to my own patio next spring. Thanks for sharing!
Nobody can ever say you are not a hard worker. Nice job time to enjoy. Cheers
Thanks!
Wow!
The problem is now I can't complain to my wife about how hard I'm working redoing our bathroom.
Very impressive. I thought about putting in pavers in the back yard, now I'm not sure I want to work that hard.
Thanks for the video.
I applaud anyone that takes on a DYI. I had a contractor put in a paver driveway last week and it's lots of work especially on a 1125 sq ft driveway. I noticed when they did the borders they used cement to set the pavers to ensure the pavers stay in place and don't move. Looks beautiful but then again for 12K plus it better.
Amazing job. I was planning on building one by just laying some pavers on top of the grass...glad I saw this first.
just for future, dont have to tamp the soil. just need no lose dirt clumps. then after u have added gravel and tamped it add sand. stop adding sand inch from the level you want it, compact the sand, and put metal poles every 4 feet. for every 10 feet, you want 1/2inch high on one end of pole, and level with the pole next to it. (you do this so that water runs off the pavers..) now add the sand inbetween the poles, take a 5ft board and run it over the poles.. smooth as butta. good job!
+snack pack the running over the poles is called screeting. For people who didn't understand this.....he means, after you tamp the gravel.......lay down 3/4"or 1/2" pvc piping next to each other.......dump sand in between, and use a board to run on top of pvc so it creates level sand base. Move PVC pipes as u go alomg, and fill in the pvc slots by hand/etc.
ww2 colorizer it's not called screeting, it's called screeding. Try to be accurate when you correct people.
how did I correct him? I added to his explanation. And all you gained from my comment (trying to help others) was that I had a 1-letter mistake? ok buddy
ww2 colorizer to be fair you got a critical word to your comment wrong
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. My Wife and I are not professionals either, and we wanted to get a good idea of how to do it right. This helped a lot!
Thank you so much for putting this video together! It was so informative!
Great job, ladies!!
Great job! I didn’t realize how crazy hard this is. 😅 I started on my own today so I can start my garden and boy was I in for a surprise lol. 💪🏼
Awesome Job!!!! Now get them hotdogs and smores roasting! :3 Love seeing ppl out and working hard.
In Arizona I would suggest using that landscaping fabric after the gravel and before the sand so you can keep those knarly weeds from coming up.
Peace!
+Porter Rockwell That will create drainage problems. You want to use polymeric sand to fill the voids. You can buy it by the bag.
Polymeric sand will have issues after about 4-5 years and will have to be removed completely to repair it - that is HARD work. In contrast a sand base with sand fill, takes about 40 minutes for a patio this size which needs to be addressed each year.
Lord Delacroi
I agree. Did one area 2 years ago and the weeds don't stop. About to do another and this time leaving 4" spacing filled with small gravel for better drainage but I'm seriously considering a weed blocker fabric. I don't see it being done anywhere online yet i just came up with it.
@@MrJoshcc600 try pouring boiling water on the patio in spring and summer. It can prevent weed for about 1~2 month. organic and cheap.
You Ladies have done a great job. You have inspired me to get off my rump and do this for my self.
👍🙌🏼 the only reasons I haven’t started my 8x8 patio is Budget and I think I’m a little wimpy. But you ladies freakin rock. I think I will at least start the digging part tomorrow. Thank y’all for posting some motivation
Good job. These people leaving negative comments love to hear themselves talk. Anyway most if not all pavers settle and move. Put some boxwood shrubs around the edge and you'll really give it that classy look. Good job.
Good job most people would have quit for 2 reasons the first is the budget and the second is the desire to finish since people quit after all the labor and time. Good job
+adolfo almazan Thanks!
I put down 9 pavers for the base of a firepit very similar to yours. Had to be perfectly level and done right. It almost killed me lol! Just bought 100 more for a grilling pad and I have been absolutely dreading it! Seeing you ladies tackle this project has given me hope! Thanks and very nice job!
Thanks for sharing this and being so thorough. I learnt heaps and your patio is Boss! enjoy :)
Question: how much settling was there after installation? Did the patio sink in a little more than you wanted. Thanks for posting this video and you did a great job.
Daaaauyyyyymmmmmm she is a beast!
Your patio looks awesome. I'm glad that u made it showing step by step. I'm going to do the same in my backyard. Thank you for sharing your back breaking work; again it looks awesome!! Kayla
Nice work, ladies! I am currently at the excavation phase for two patios and you have given me encouragement to get mine done.
My favorite line, "do you have anything to say?", "this sucks!"
Awesome work and very inspirational. I just got a quote for a 12x18 at $3,100.00. Now, I am going to try to do it myself.
LaShay Enterprises just don't dig down as far as we did ! LOL
***** doing mine now 18 x 10 big job!
wow! that is a big job!! good luck to you!
***** Thank you.. and thanks for sharing the video.
LaShay Enterprises no doubt
Mrs. Meyer is funny as hell, "Sit on my ass working" lol, you did a good job for what you have, your video entertained me, and it is nice to see someone actually trying to improve there home site, where I live nobody cares about home improvement, and thats why I hear how nice my yard looks all the time, so overall great job!
thanks Mark!
***** So much hate, so little time. Terrific job Bobbi, I commend you for taking the time to post the video and I admire your determination and vigor. Enjoy the patio and drink a beer for me with the money that you saved. .
thanks!
Damn, I'm reading through the comments and yeah, looks like far to many people are quick to criticize. People, it's a patio and looks pretty damn good and serves its purpose. Personally, I'll be happy as hell if mine comes out looking half as good as the job they did. Even professionals leave imperfections. The "pros" who installed my stockade fence could have conducted a more thorough job for the price they charged. I'm not going to redo parts of my fence on my own and yes, I anticipate some flaws but it's better than getting ripped off. Add some patio furniture, potted plants and various decor and enjoy.
I'm also trying this patio. Your patio looks great!
I have to take my hat off to you, ladies. Good work indeed. And thanks for sharing.
Nice job! That's a lot of work. I bet the homebrew went down great after that! Cheers!
it sure hit the spot!
Great job....The wife and I will be getting our hands dirty next weekend....
Loved the video! I'm embarking on this journey and don't have the courage to put it on You Tube. Your patio and firepit are awesome. Nothing gives one more satisfaction than doing it yourself.
Hey, I'm stopping in a few years later, but watching home videos like this is super fun. It helps rid away of the fear of messing up, and better yet make fun out of it. Its motivation to go out and just get it done. Being a home owner myself for about 2 years. I have done many projects and I'm looking into doing something similar like this and by far is gonna be the most fun, and scary
Bloody hell that's hard work. You gals are fitter than me!
this isnt hard work ive done this before this is hella hard work times 4 ive give props to them WOW!!
thanks!

Don't ever think what others are thinking. Just as long as you are happy what you are doing. Too me it looks great! It took some time to do it, but you did it! That's all that matters.
Here's a suggestion, use a leveler to check for balance. Later on to frame it off for balance and make it low maintenance, plant flowers around the outside of the patio. Make certain the plants are lowmaintence but still keep it's beauty. Square formation [ ]
Great job! It's always wonderful to enjoy the fruits of your labor afterwards. Thank you for the video.
beautiful! love it. How much were those pavers if you dont mind me asking. making a backyard ramp out of that
WillC Vlog I think around $3.79 each if I recall
Love to read the comments. Job well done, disregard the negative comments. It's so easy for people to sit on there ass and judge others work.
thanks!
I took my hedges out from in front of my patio it's hell of a hard job the roots r so deep it takes a lot of time and a lot of work I replaced it with some pavers and it looks very nice along with some fencing but I love working in my yard cuz I don't worry about what people say but I do get a lot of compliments
Right because she did her thing 💪🏽👷🏼♀️
Thanks for posting! A friend and I ( and possibly my sons) will hopefully start this project soon.
Your finished project is wonderful!
This is awesome. I like they didn't sugar coat anything. It's a lot of hard, hard work, so many try to make it look easy.. and then they had to dispose of that dirt. Great patio ladies! Congrats!
Bobbi, I would like to thank you for sharing your project details. You provided me enough insight to determine that this is not a project that I want to do, or can do by myself! I can see that because I don't have a truck that delivered supplies would be required. Also, I would need a way of disposing of the dirt and removed sod. Long-story-short, I think that I will seek out the assistance of a professional.
There are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard, so a cubic yard would weigh 2,970 pounds plus or minus 270 pounds. Your 10x10x6 inch plot yielded 1.85 cubic yards of soil. So about 5197 pounds. I'm sure you were exhausted! Great video.
+Mike Cooper now I know why my back hurt! Thanks for figuring that out!
try g
this was excellent!! I'm looking to make a patio for my grills and smoker, and constructing a layered roof over it (I live in a tornado-prone area), so I'm educating myself watching these video's. You guys rock! (especially to the Joan Jett)
That is a DAMN good job! I'm saving this video to try my hand at this over the weekend in my own backyard.
I really appreciate you guys showing this full process! So many times you watch HGTV like I can do that, but you both show how hard it really is and you both are amazing!! Way to go Bob for coming through to help too! It gives a realistic impression of what we are getting ourselves into, but taking your time it came out amazing. Question: if we did this during Florida winter while the sod is half dead do we risk losing it altogether? Thanks again!! Cant wait to do this... well maybe I can😂🤣👍
Well done gals !!!! Is there a video for the fire place? Greetings from Greece
Great inspiration 👍👏👏👏 so much motivation after watching your video . Soon will do my lawn renovation myself 🤗
You go girls! That was lot of work, but looks well worth the effort. Nice job. Would enjoy sitting around that firepit having drinks and sharing DIY stories!
Melinda McGaugh come on over!
Great job!!

looks very good Bobbi, downside is you are doing the hard work while I am drinking a beer 2100 miles from home... Will give you a PM in a couple of days because you asked me where I am in a comment but I couldn't find that message back. Cheers and all the best! Enjoy the Patio!
Wow! You did a good job with very little help. Very resourceful woman. I appreciate the video for when I'm ready to take on such a project.
I am planning a very similar project in the near future so I really appreciate you making this video detailing the steps and items needed for this project. Thanks for sharing..
Fantastic work ladies I know guys half your age that would cave in like punks! 👊🏻
+hutchbeartrap22 we're old and stubborn!! LOL
"We need some inmates!" LOL Great job!
Uptowner ya, could have borrowed some from the prison here in town!
You put some of the guys I work around to shame with the effort you put in on this. Great build for a DIY! Enjoy the wine and fire!
Brent Henttonen We definitely have! Thanks for the compliment!
Wow! Nice job ladies. I want to do this in my backyard since we are having a severe drought here in Southern Cali, but I may have to have someone remove my soil and dump it for me. Great finish!!
Good job. But you totally need to wear gloves while placing the pavers to save your hands. Still looks good though. Congrats! Enjoy!
I just lay em write on top of the grass and we good 😂😂
🤣🤣
Nah for real I actually tried this one time. Don’t do it put stone down. It’s actually a lot easier to make em straight. You don’t need sand though
Great job! You inspired me. I so want to do this, but am afraid to start but know that the satisfaction of completing a project like this would make me very happy. Great job!
You are honestly so inspiring as a women I admire you are a boss! My husband just recently put pavers and watched your video and it came out lovely! 💪🏼 your patio came out super nice!!!
I learned so much watching your video. What a great job you did. Y'all are an inspiration! Love your accent. What state are y'all in?
Missouri...think I have an accent, you should call North Carolina!
Pls give me the company were you bought those slabs because our family we were building a big patio and our slabs finished and we called the company and they said sry we dont have and apparintly we failed
we got them from Menards...Lowes should have them too.
tnks so much!
10.5'X10.5'X0.5'=55 cubic feet
55/27=2 cubic yards
Dry soil weighs roughly 1 ton per yard so that's 2 tons of dirt.
Nice
That was amazing. I'm sure you were so satisfied the first time you enjoyed your nice patio with your fire pit. Great job.
I love it !! Great work. My Mom wants one like this , just tore down a wood porch and going this route instead of wood. Thank you for the awesome video.
