THANK YOU for covering the how to of leveling in the EXACT right detail. As a DIY wanna be, leveling was part that made me not want to try Pavers. We just got an estimate for a 12'x8' patio in the back yard with the same pavers and border in the same colors for $7,000+. We decided to just install the patio ourselves and I'm watching these videos on how to do it. Great informative DIY video!
These videos are an absolute blast to watch. I'm going to be taking on a similar sized backyard patio in the next few weeks (already excavated) and, while I will be using different paver block and seat wall materials, your videos show me the right steps to take for a great result. Thanks!

We set our string line with a transit. Afterwords we set our pipes with the transit (roughly) the use that string line to measure of from to get them exact. Level to double check that it’s spot on. Love that you’re building on washed crush stone. New England is especially important to build a strong base that doesn’t retain water. We still do some on gravel and sand, but only in certain small applications.
Nice man, we all do things a little different but it is all about the end result! I switched to nothing but open grade base 5 years ago now and haven't looked back... Such a great method for these freeze / thaw climates. Nothing but good results for me ✌
The open grade is very intriguing to me and makes a lot of sense but I've been laying stone for over 15 years with just crusher dust in Ontario and have never had issues. The patio me and my father laid when I was 16 at our house(almost 25 years ago) was still in great shape (no sink holes or heaving) when we sold the house last year, the only thing we did over the years was resand it a couple times.
I love the open grade base method. I used to use dense grade or (crusher run) with sand as my bedding material for about 6 years until 5 years ago when I switched to open grade base. I will never go back... I agree that you can do a great. long lasting install with the traditional method but there is no room for error. Especially in cold winter climates... The clean stone allows for such better drainage and keeps the pavers dry at all times, which is key for a long lasting install. ✌
Hey man! Wasnt a fan of your long videos at first but the more and more i dive into your channel i really enjoy all the hard work and dedication you put into editing this videos on top of putting in the actual work. Going into my "third season of owning a company" last two years has just been weekend work for me. I appreciate how well you explain ur jobs start to finish!! Keep it up brotha
Hey brother! Thanks for the honest feedback, I really appreciate that. This work is my passion and I have been watching UA-cam for a very long time. Not very many good Hardscaping channels on here, so I really wanted to start one and share the work I do, but also teach others as much as I can. So I try to make my videos detailed by taking people through all the steps of the installs. My earlier long form videos are not the greatest, it has taken a lot of practice and learning with the video editing to get the videos a bit better... My wife and I are thinking about using Pavers to make a Patio in our backyard and your video has helped greatly with how we want to architect and implement the project. Thank you so much for the video and I'll be looking at more of your videos as we go along. Great job and God Bless you and yours! BTW, we have never done something like this so really you are a great help!
watched for the first time . very nice job. i use rca & then set pavers in one inch of sand . i like the 3/8 stone . i also like the galvanized pipe idea. thank you
Love this video. Been in the labor as Electrician and some carpentry 40 years. I'm kinda semi retired. Been doing lots of projects lately such as cutting out 2 concrete window wells to raised above ground level. I still have the body and strength to do this even though I'm 59 years old. Looking into to do my backyard exactly like this video. Had couple guys came over look at it. My house is on the little slope. Right now my deck is 20 years old. Planning on ripping that put. I do have Kubota BX23S Mini Machine. It' is an awesome machine had for 4 years. I've seen other UA-cam videos not as good as yours. Looking forward doing it the way you guys.
Thank you man I learned good stuff, on my backyard patio I used 4in crushed rocks and 1in sand. I believe instead of sand if I had used smaller grade crushed rock would have been better. Also I leveled all the area before laying the pavers, working in segments would have been better. And most importantly longer levelling pipes would have been a worthwhile investment. Good work.
No problem, I am glad the video was helpful! I love this method for laying pavers, the clean crushed stone really holds up well. Long screed pipes and going section by section is key for sure. ✌
awesome video! love that you don't use a sand base.... the chip stone looks much more stable and easier to work with. I'm looking to have an excavator cut out a patio in our hill and install a 4' high boulder wall. I'll have about 14' x 30' patio area and this looks like a doable project for me... mostly by myself but I'm retired and not under time pressure. I'll probably make it high in the middle and drain to both sides, and then have a french drain carry away water. the land is mostly clay so it doesn't drain well. I appreciated the info about the chip stone with no fines allows water to drain through.

@@TheChristianHardscaper in the middle of laying about 900 sq feet of this exact same paver in the shale grey. Glad you mentioned about avoiding the 4 way joints otherwise I wouldn't have thought about it.
Hey bro! Been awhile! Great job like always! I just did a first patio ever and very happy how it turned out! In the future, I would like to try your method using 3/4in stone for base and 1/4 in as screeding material! Metal pipes is a smart move as well! We used PVC. Still worked out great, but I feel like metal pipes are a better choice! Keep up great work dude!
Nice, congratulations man! The Open Grade base is key in my opinion and yes, the metal pipes hold up good and give nice straight / level screed. Thanks for the feedback! ✌
Thank you, I love this method for pavers. Although, if you have a base material that has fines in it (sand / dust) than you may need to use sand for the bedding material. Simply because the fines will migrate into the chip stone. You can still use it, but you will need top remove all the existing bedding material, rake and compact the base material, then lay fabric, then spread the chip stone to prevent the materials from migrating together. How I do the base, there is fabric at the bottom, clean base stone, then clean bedding stone. So nothing will migrate and the crushed (angular) stone will lock together tight. 👌✌
What a nice patio. I've watched so many videos on patios, i want to do my own... but my brain just can't compute the whole leveling part, etc. As well as how he mentions good starting blocks so as to have limited cuts on the sides but it's a random patio so i don't get how they know it's going to be even with limited cuts once they get towards the end.
Thanks man! I can't wait until I can do a project like this at my own house....LMAO. I would love to know what it's like to enjoy a project like this... 😂✌
Excellent video. Here in UK very difficult to find a contractor interested in smaller gardens like mine hence I’m here to learn to do it myself. The paving supplier has recommended a cement mortar base under the 7/8” thick slate paving which should be 1” depth when tamped down. Interesting on this video just lay on stones which seems much easier but your blocks are much thicker. I still think I should rule off on the gas pipes to start with a perfectly prepared surface. Any videos with advice on laying a border when the border is not enclosed by a wall?
Glad the video was helpful! With thinner stone like that, most people do set them in a mortar bed. This helps strengthen the slab and give it a longer life. I would definitely recommend using this base method and screeding just like I did. Then you can lay mortar and the slabs. Here is a video link of how I install border 👉ua-cam.com/video/K8XUm4j-bB8/v-deo.html
I bought a bad ass electric brick saw with a rimless blade for $100 dollars. It's far better than a cut off saw. The cut is way cleaner and it sprays water... We have had gas table saws before, but they don't touch the electric one. If you find one, snag it ASAP. It was a complete game changer for our business. We will never use a gas table saw again, but we still use our STIHL cut off a lot. The rimless blade is really where it's at. I'm pretty sure you can buy one for the Stihl saw.
Nice, those are pretty good for small straight cuts. But nothing will ever make me leave my Stihl cut off at home....LOL I love these saws. Never been a fan of table saws for pavers. ✌
@@TheChristianHardscaper It's super nice if you have jobs with hundreds or thousands of cuts. You'll be a fan of them if you ever have intricate walkways you have to lay. You'll save literal days of cutting. Imagine doing 500 cuts with that Stihl saw. Its an absolute nightmare and super taxing on the body.

Nice, congratulations man! The Open Grade base is key in my opinion and yes, the metal pipes hold up good and give nice straight / level screed. Thanks for the feedback! ✌
Great stuff. The area you live in looks amazing. I am redoing my patio debating using the chipstone over sand for the screeding.
Keep it up.
this helped me a lot. Thanks for the step by step ... as well as the entertaining discussions :)
Glad to hear it, happy to help!
Yes sir great content as always…. Phenomena work.
Glad you enjoyed it, Thank you!
Nice. I like the way u made it. 👏
Thank you ✌
Great video! Stay blessed !
Thank you! You too! ✌
Great video! I have learned so much from you brother! gratefull for you 🙏
Glad to hear it! ✌
These videos are awesome, I do the same work as well. Nice to pick up little things here and there from these videos
I'm glad to hear it, thanks for the feedback and support! ✌

Thanks man! I can't wait until I can do a project like this at my own house....LMAO. I would love to know what it's like to enjoy a project like this... 😂✌

Thanks wonderful job mate ❤️🇦🇺🍾🥂👏👏👏.
✌
Loved it.
Great Job 👏🏼
Thank you! ✌
Excelente work
✌
Thank you for a great video
Supa awesome brada!!!
Thank you! ✌
Nice video & narration! Surprised you can hammer the pipes down after the stone has been compacted - guess it’s only minute amounts.
Thank you, glad you liked it! Setting the pipes into the stone just a bit with the hammer is key ✌
영상을보면서 배울점이 많습니다. 😂
Very informative, thank you🎉
Liked and subscribed. Lots of tips will come in handy. Thanks guys!
Glad to hear it, thank you! ✌
@@TheChristianHardscaper I use both. I also keep my Stihl on me, but the table saw is so pro dude. You can speed through cuts.
Hey guys how do you learn to do this craft?
Appreciate all the details, thanks!
No problem, thank you! ✌
