This is a prime example of how a Boss/owner should be with his men and business. Everyone gets shown a level of respect but have your finger on the pulse of every job so you are not blindsided.

    Attention all shop owners.
Pay attention to the equipment Dave has. Notice how his shop is clean and in order.
This is what a shop should look like.
Not all greasy as hell with trash cans filled to capacity with Clucky’s chicken boxes piled to the rim.
Parts all over the place looking more like a salvage yard more than anything.

If I’d have had a good boss who cared about taking care of his people back when I was a Ford diesel tech, maybe I’d still be doing it. Instead, they were slowly turning me into a guy who had to cut as many corners as possible to get to the break-even point, and maybe even gain an hour here and there. I raise my glass to you guys who still beat your bodies up every day doing this for a living. I can’t imagine how broken I’d be by now if I was still wrenching in my late 40’s. I’m happy being a weekend warrior again. Dave, keep taking care of the guys that make you a success. You’re a model for how a shop should be as far as I can tell.

So he’s found that medium balance to work “ BOTH WAYS” both parties “as use can see” are in their happy place…mind you I can see their is a “ WEE. BIT” of animosity BUT hey…we don’t live in a PERFECT world & if you don’t like ithe way DAVE runs his SHOP

You are literally the first channel I've ever subscribed to on UA-cam. I want to thank you so much for everything you and your team or doing for the automotive repair industry. We have gotten a bad reputation from too many bad apples in the field and your shop is by far the best shop with the best crew I've ever seen or heard of. Having been a mechanic for over 40 years myself and working in every aspect of it, I can honestly say that your shop is a diamond in the rough. If every repair shop was modeled after yours, the automotive repair field would absolutely be one of the most respected industries in the country if not the world. Thank you for restoring my faith in this trade that there are still true mechanics in the world that put the customer first. I will continue to watch your channel as frequently as possible and I look forward to every minute of it. Keep doing what you're doing.

    Dave,
The number one issue with what you say about finding a shop you can trust especially a shop the operates at a high level such as yours does is 100 percent non existent where I live in Louisiana.
Nobody is doing it like you and your crew do it down here.
We have plenty of so called “mechanics” but they aren’t worth a poot.
About 10 years ago I lost my two mechanics that were first cousins
These guys were on another level.
All I had to do was park my truck outside of their shop, place the keys above my drivers side visor and they would call me in a day or two max and tell me to come get it it is ready.
When they retired I literally teared up. I knew the plenty days were gone for good. Thats when I started turning wrenches for myself.
J.Y. and Freddy Wood, if you ever read this, you will never know how much I miss you fellas. You men were quintessential craftsman.

My father is a man like you. Into engines and racing and has been a mechanic his entire life. The cool part is he's still living in the same house all on his own at age 87. The mailbox and the crankshaft are still in the front yard. 😂😂😂 4 yrs ago at age 83 he built a ratrod from the ground up. Much of it built "homemade" and I'm serious. I had a ‘96 Toyota Tacoma with the rare 2.7 4 cylinder. It developed a head gasket leak. Block deck was warped.004”.
I bought a “ good “ 2.4 liter that came in the 2 wheel drives.
Salvage yard owner told me “ I heard it run, runs good “!
    Ok. Purchased it for $1300.
Before I installed it, I noticed some dead weeds in the electrical harness, and sand in places there shouldn’t have sand. Cylinder leak test. Failed bad !
Drained oil. 2 gallons of water ran out before the oil.
Pulled pan. Checked main and a rod bearing. Bad scratches !
I took it back. He refunded my money. I rebuilt the 2.7 with a LC Engineering kit and balance shaft delete. ARP head studs.
I believe the engine the Denver Toyota salvage guy sold me was in the Johnstown / Ft Collins flood a year or so earlier.

Another very nice video and it's really fun to see what a nice atmosphere there is between you and your team. and trust between customers and shop is really important. Although I do a lot of things on my cars myself (my job involves working with steam turbines), but there are some things that I simply don't have the machines for. And I also have a lot of trust in the shops that overhaul my cylinder heads, for example, and have the work carried out that they recommend to me.

As a network and control systems engineer I liked reading the official factory service manual and just taking my time. Since Covid, I had less time and still the same need for maintenance and "other fixes" that happen with vehicle age.
Enjoy your vacation. Don't log in to work, don't check your email, don't look at youtube ratings, just enjoy the time away as it's worth more than than anything.

I have been a heavy diesel/equipment mechanic for 35 plus years. It amazes me the lack of ability and knowledge most of the local automotive shops have in the town I live. I’m sure that typical of most towns and cities. I get so many people asking me to work on there cars. I just don’t do cars. Except for my personal vehicles

Years ago I saw a big massive old crankshaft that had been concreted upright in the ground, then used it as a gate post. He connected the gate top and bottom with two con rods on to the big end journals. I have a picture of it somewhere.

    Sir,
I see you're reinforcing the awareness of your shop policy, regarding used engines and transmissions not having a labor warranty if they're defective. I think that's awesome, so you can avoid misunderstandings with customers. Hopefully, you can make a sign if you don't already have one, that specifically details your policy regarding used parts.
As for your newest acquisition to decorate your storefront area, I think it's more fitting than a palm tree. I'd definitely get a couple of flood lights that come on automatically at night, and light it up. Just make sure it's not going to fall over, as it's very heavy. I'm sure it will make your business stand out, as to what you love to do the most at your shop. You win an A+. Have fun on your vacation!

You said it Dave, it’s impossible to know ANYTHING about a used motor, you’re straight up gambling. That’s very smart of you to make those customers pay up front 👍

There’s a lot of used engines and transmission that were from water salvage cars and trucks. You would think everyone would want to do the spinning compression and oil pressure test before all the work was done before it was installed. 🤔

I kind of miss them too, they were fun lit up at night. Thanks for the comment. The windstorms that come through Centerville sometimes would just ravage those trees though.

As far as flashlights are concerned. I have used expensive slyde's and nebo units and have been disappointed. The very best I have found is a NAPA BLUE-FUEL. it is rechargable and has survived in my shop for over a year. No problems.
