  • Animal agriculture is the biggest destroyer of forests, responsible for destruction of biodiversity and among the biggest polluters and harmful gas emitters. Randal Plunkett comes from one of the oldest families in Ireland with a long history and large estate and a castle. His mission in life became “V-Wilding”, a new and exciting form of environmental restoration. In 2014 Plunkett did convert over a third of his estate into a rewilding project. His work is now the subject of a major documentary. On his land he allows nature to have a breath. He contributes to a natural restoration of nature processes by organic actions. Remarkably, within a span of a few years, without the use of fertilizers, deforestation, or animal harm, Randal witnessed a remarkable transformation. Species that had been absent for a century reappeared, and the symbiotic relationship between plants and animals fostered adaptation, ultimately leading to a remarkable revival of the natural world. Randal Plunkett, Lord Dunsany or commonly referred to by the media as “The Death Metal Baron” is an award-winning Irish film director, producer and environmental vegan advocate. He is a holder of one of the oldest surviving peerage titles in Ireland and still remains in their family’s historic homestead Dunsany Castle, and its remaining estate.
Over the last decade Plunkett has been one of the pioneers of the “rewilding movement”, a new and exciting form of environmental restoration. In 2014 Plunkett’s converted over a third of his estate into a rewilding project which has since seen a multitude of lost species return and a surge of biodiversity. His work is now the subject of a major documentary. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. This is a truly inspirational talk, thank you Randal. It is so well prepared and executed, like a short play on stage, and has dramatic energy and inspiring impact. I have no idea how you managed to deliver it without recourse to notes, perhaps you had a script feed to your ear, but no matter, the end result is just great. I am writing this as I just noticed how few comments there are below, which I find perplexing. I thought Ted talks had a worldwide reach, but evidently individual talks do not reach their intended audience without a lot of promotion. Perhaps you could ask the powers that be, such as in Rewilding Europe, to promote this Ted talk more widely. Keep up the great work, what a fantastic project you have in Dunsany, Ireland.

Perhaps you could ask Rewilding Europe to promote your talk more widely. You are a rewilding landowner member of that organisation, I'm sure they could promote your work better.

Veganism + rewilding = future. 🌱 The title doesn't do this highly inspirational (and greatly entertaining) talk justice at all. The Power of Nature's Adaptations Through Vegan Rewilding (aka v-wilding) would be more fitting. 🍃
Thank you TEDx for facilitating this hugely important topic. This concept is absolutely crucial if we want to stand a chance as a species and address biodiversity breakdown and climate collapse. There is still hope if we, if everyone gets onboard with this. We got to join in the revolution Randal Plunkett has started. Each and every one of us. 🕊️
